New Name....

 what a slow and rather boring day !

As you may have noticed I have changed my screen name from ClipClop to TeaElleBee (TLB)... just thought I would change things up a bit ;)

Hope you are all having a great weekend and hope to catch up with some of you tomorrow.

Ciao for now !

my scale is stuck!

I just wrote a whole long post and lost the whole thing! ARG!
This is something that may interest the other low carbers, particularly curlylocks. As some of you may remember, I had problems losing on South Beach and Atkins and then started losing like magic on Protein Power. Well, there may have been something else in the mix contributing to the magic. Around the time I switched to Protein Power, I also started taking L-carnitine supplements which is one of the supplements recommended by the low carb "experts" for people who are stalled. I ran out of my L-carnitine about two weeks ago which was the same time TOM came to visit so I figured the reason I didn't lose was because of TOM. Now, I've come back from the camping trip where I stayed totally on program and exercised like a freak and didn't lose a pound. I must have walked 10 miles a day at Creation and I "m not exaggerating. Not to mention the carrying of water jugs, lawn chairs, ice, etc. I tried to estimate things on FitDay and it says I had about 1,000 calorie deficit each day I was there so I should have come home about 5 lbs lighter. Clearly calories are not the whole picture ladies!

True carnitine deficiency is a rare genetic disorder that is diagnosed in childhood so I'm sure I don't have it. However, I have to admit something strange is going on here. Even on Atkins, I was in ketosis for weeks and not losing. Curlylocks, if you are interested in trying this, the experts recommend you take at least a gram a day and it is relatively expensive. I got some more yesterday. I bought a bottle of 100 (500 mg) tablets for about $35. I have to take 2 a day. I'll keep you posted on what happens but I took one last night. According to FitDay I ate about 2000 calories yesterday (although I think that estimate is a bit high) and this morning my scale is already down 0.2. There is a biochemist on the Protein Power website and I may have to get his opinion about what he thinks is going on here if my weight loss starts to pick up again.

ahh petra that is very interesting..... I am gonna google and check this out.. tho I am a bit apprehensive about mixing things with the "metformin" i am taking ...

I have tried the 5=htp in the past and it seemed to help me also... I really am a true believer in the "serotonin uptake" theories...

when i lost 120 lbs ... I was taking the phen-fen combo.. under very closely watched medical supervision.. and I was taking a dose much lower than the reccomendations... I think thats why i was lucky not to have the leaky valve side effects...

But I really do believe the studies that say its the serotonin levels that make people pre-disposed to obesity..

cuz we all know people who can eat all day.. any foods they dont exercise and they are thin as a stick...

Food
Serving L-Carnitine (mg)
Beef steak 3 ounces* 81
Ground beef 3 ounces 80
Pork 3 ounces 24
Canadian bacon 3 ounces 20
Milk (whole) 8 fluid ounces (1 cup) 8
Fish (cod) 3 ounces 5
Chicken breast 3 ounces 3
Ice cream 4 ounces (1/2 cup) 3
Avocado 1 medium 2
American cheese 1 ounce 1
Whole-wheat bread 2 slices 0.2
Asparagus 6 spears (1/2 cup) 0.2

LOL when i went back and read this.. lol u can tell i just woke up ... my mind is scrambled hehehehe :dizzy:

P.s. check this site out for your L-Carnitine, they have good prices

now this is interesting:

Research has suggested that incorporating cayenne pepper into the diet may help people lose weight. Controlled studies report that adding 6 to 10 grams of cayenne to a meal or 28 grams to an entire day’s diet reduces hunger after meals and reduces calories consumed during subsequent meals. Other controlled studies have reported that calorie burning by the body increases slightly when 10 grams of cayenne is added to a meal or 28 grams is added to an entire day’s diet However, no studies have been done to see if regularly adding cayenne to the diet has any effect on weight loss.

Curlylocks-thanks for the info. Great prices. In looking at that website, I may have found my answer. I may be on a medication that reduces carnitine levels. I'll have to investigate more. Now who can eat grams of cayenne pepper???? I like cajun food, but come on now.

GMorning Partners ~ an absolutely beautiful day here on the coast. Just got back from taking the dog for a walk and just sitting down to have some breaky :hun:

Not sure what the rest of the day will bring, but I think hubby and I may head down town and walk around abit. There is always so much going on in the summer.

Well I just wanted to say , have a great day and talk to you soon.

Just wanted to say a quick hello to you ladies. Nothing special going on here. Staying on program exercise, exercise and more exercise. I am having more pain in my shoulders and back now that I am exercising so much but I will have to live with it until after the surgery. :(

Lisa - Great job on the weight loss!!!!

Everyone else I will try to talk to you later. :D

curlylocks 07-03-2005 01:51 PM

LMAO RE: the pepper i guess the food is so yucky u dont wanna eat it ... or it burns your mouth so bad u associate food with the fire in your mouth.... lol not mention when it recycles ... ur rear end will be on fire

petra65 07-03-2005 09:41 PM

Clipclop-what is the significance of the new name? How does it feel to be free of school books?

Lisa, you are doing great! Just make sure you have some down time for yourself too.

Hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend. The boys and I went for a long walk today. They were worn out.

Lisa_WY 07-04-2005 07:15 AM

Howdy All!!
I was awaken at 3:30am by a nut case standing on our street corner preaching at the top of his lungs. Weird. LOL I think the police got him.

I took the day off from exercising yesterday. I took a long nap in the afternoon. LOL We took the training wheels off of M's bike. SHe has worn them out. She is really struggling to learn to ride without them and it kills my back trying to teach her. She keeps hitting the brakes and won't ride fast enough to keep her balanced. SO.... I might have to modify them and put them back on. SHe has another smaller bike that has t wheels and I might be able to put them on the brackets for her other bike. I will have to check it out today.

Stepson and family came over last night. They always come at dinner time. LOL We always have enough food...Dave had BBQed some pork on the grill. It was good. I made a fruit salad, beans, and lf cole slaw. THey are coming over tonight for hamburgers and hot dogs. LOL I am hoping I can talk them into taking M to the fireworks and I will watch the baby. LOL Fireworks are too late for Dave to stay up and I really don't want to go but when you have little ones..fireworks are necessary. LOL

Hope everyone has a wonderful 4th and Monday!

jennie934 07-04-2005 01:10 PM

Hi everyone, well yesterday was my WI, and I stayed the same  yuck! I let it get me down and I did some emotional eating. Not really a logical thing to do seeing as how I was upset for not losing, so I stuffed my face. But its over I am trying to find some motivation and keep my self moving. I worked out so hard last week and to get no kind of reward just really bothered me. so if anyone has some motvation to lend, pass it this way I really need it.
It just seems like it is such a long road and I've been on it before. but this time I want to make it. I'm not giving my self time limits or anything because in the past I would and when I didn't achieve them, I gave up but it is takeing so long. I am off of work from my full time job now for the summer so I can concentrate on my slef a llittle more, and not feel guilty about it so I'm hopeing that will kick me in the butt and the scale is gonna start moving. I know what i need to do its just feels like I'll never see the results. I've lost 25 pounds and i"m still in my same old clothes(they must have been a size or two to small when I started right?), and I feel like I look the same, I'm dyeing to see some results.
OK, not to get anyone down on the holiday because you all are doing so well. Have a good 4th.
Jennie

petra65 07-04-2005 03:52 PM

Jennie-I don't know if this wil help or not but I'm a little stalled right now too but I feel so much better eating this way I wouldn't want to go back even if I didn't lose another pound. I know I am doing something healthy for myself regardless of what my scale says. Sure, fitting into smaller clothes is nice but the real reason to do this is to be healthy. Hope that helps.

I've had a productive day. Trimmed my hedges, did some other yard work and took my boys for another long walk. They just about threw themselves on the floor when we got back. Poor things. I made sure they had plenty of fresh cold water to drink. Me too!

momX3 07-04-2005 06:04 PM

Jennie - The changes will come. Don't give up!!! You are feeling better right? I know you are healthier!! Don't let that :censored: scale get you down. You will see a change it just takes time. I have not posted it 'cause I want to wait but I have lost another 5 pounds and I am still wearing the same clothes also. That's 28 lbs and still wearing the same clothes. They are looser but I will not buy anything else until they are falling off of me  so it looks like I'll be in them for awhile. We all have down times just pick yourself up and dust yourself off. You will be just fine :D. Don't forget you have alot of ladies here going through the same things as you and we all understand :grouphug:.

Petra - Great attitude!!! I'm with you. I never want to give up what I am doing now 'cause I feel so much better.

Curly - Good job getting back OP. It's hard to get up sometimes.

Lisa - I know what you mean about the fireworks. It's way past my bedtime . Oh well, you have to do it for the kids and in my case dh (it's his favorite).

Have a great 4th everyone :) .
