Hey all! I want to join in on IF When I was at my smallest I only ate one meal a day along with fruit as a dessert. I did very well with this. I was pretty active at the time and food just weighed me down. I felt SO good doing this and had no problems with hunger. I drank tea and water with an occasional soda during the day also. I would like for my window to being in the middle of the day but I think I will just make it early afternoon to evening since I want to eat with my DD13 at night. I'm tired of cc and low-carb. I just want to eat regular food and not worry about it, but just have that window and nothing more.

Hey guys, I've been thinking about starting IF. Because I feel like as soon as I start eating for the day, I nibble all day long. I think if I did eating windows starting in the late afternoon, It'd be the best bet for me.

I do have 2 concerns though. Which I've googled and didn't find "clear" answers too.. They may have already been asked in this thread but I didn't read it all the way through.

So my questions:

1)I've heard alot that your metabolism starts as soon as you start eating. So.. if I don't eat till like 2/3pm.. will my body burn less calories?

2)The whole idea of "if your body is too hungry from not eating in x amount of time it will store the food when you finally do eat as fat". Does that while IF? Or are up to 24 hour fasting periods not large enough to cause this?

Thanks in advance for answers.. The 2 things are the only thing keeping me from IF.. So I'd love to hear feedback.

Precisely why I've stuck with IF no matter what! Welcome

Welcome! I think you'll like IF. Please be careful of what you read online; a lot of it are just lies promoted by the "diet industry".
1) No. Our metabolism isn't regulated by eating; it doesn't start when we eat and shut down when we stop. Our bodies will burn calories whether we sit around all day and eat nothing, even when we sleep and we're hopefully not eating then.

2) No. Weightloss always happens when we consume less calories than we need. If what you eat or drink at any time of the day, whether fasted or not, puts you over the daily calorie limit your body needs, then your body will store the extra calories as fat. Period.

I hope I've answered your questions. Mike O'Donnell has an IF blog (IF Life) that gets into these questions re metabolism and debunks diet industry myths re metabolism, muscle loss, etc. You may find it helpful to parse through it.

Thanks for the warm welcome I wanted to respond to what you said here. It makes a lot of sense I know there are many reasons why I've gained weight, but one of them is because I believed the new theory that you have to eat breakfast and you have to eat several times a day to keep your metabolism going. Like I said above, I was my smallest (as an adult) when I only ate one meal a day. I don't believe my body was in starvation mode like "they" say is happening. I felt great, had tons of energy, and was very active. If I eat all day long I feel lethargic and have no energy and guess what? I'm FAT! LOL! Thank you SO much for this information and I'm going to check out his blog

Thank you FassGal for your response! I've started IF today, I'm going to do 1-8 window, and slowly work my way [comfortably] to 3-8. Excited to see if this helps my month long weight stall!!

I'm doing great on my first day so far I opened my window at 2:00 and aside from a few hunger pangs made it through the morning great! I just sipped on tea sweetened with NuStevia. I don't think I will have a very wide window as I may overeat so I'm going to close it at 6:00. I'll report in tomorrow on how things went

I'm loving the blog too I did great last night. I had a four hour window and didn't eat anything beyond that. I feel great today! I tried this once before but wasn't dedicated and I am now. I feel like I have more control in my diet and I'm loving that feeling.

Okay, change of plans... not sure why, but doing a 24-hour fast was just awful this time... so, I'm switching to a daily 18-hour fast with eating window from 2:00 to 8:00... I realized that being at the gym in the morning keeps me from thinking about eating, plus I've never been able to like breakfast first thing... so, today is my second day of the new routine & I'm liking it a LOT better... I think one of my problems before, several years ago when I tried Fast-5, was I didn't have a plan for eating... I think I probably just pigged out during the 5-hour window... but this time, I'm doing my same meals I've been doing for the past year on my low-carb plan, just squeezing them into 6 hours instead of spreading them out over the whole day... so far, I haven't had any desire to eat more... lots of green tea & water keep me satisfied after the window closes...

Workouts yesterday & today in fasted state & I couldn't tell any difference from before when I was having a light breakfast beforehand... well, I say no difference, I mean no negative differences... I finished an hour of weight lifting & an hour of Zumba today without much fatigue at all... that's new!.. no workout tomorrow or Sunday, so I'll have to wait 'til Monday to give it another test... as I've been doing for the last couple of months, intaking about 20 g. BCAAs split before & after workout... not sure which website I read that BCAAs don't affect the fasting state... (I've read a bunch of online stuff about IF in the past few days)..

Great work, y'all... keep going...

hugs

Day 1 was awesome! Ended up doing a 2-8 yesterday cause I got busy at work at 1.. but it went well! Doing a 1:30-7:30 today cause it fits my schedule for the day better...

Went to the gym this morning during fast time.. and honestly felt great. I thought I wouldn't have energy. But I was kicking booty

Loving IF so far.. glad I decided to do it.. and glad someone made this thread.. We need our own little area on the forum...I have a feeling one thread won't be enough!

Another good resource for anyone interested is the leangains.com website. For new people, go to the "ten diet myths debunked" area. Very interesting and lots of good information. That is the site that got me started.

Thanks!.. great article...

Today's day 3 of daily fasting for me... since Friday morning, I'm down 4 lbs... yesterday was harder than Friday since I was home all day & didn't have other things going on to distract me... so far this morning, though, I'm not having the cravings I did yesterday... I have an event to attend this afternoon (no food involved there), so I'll be opening my window an hour earlier, at 1:00... but instead of closing it an hour early, I'll just close it at the regular time, 8:00... that's one of the many good things about IF, it's flexible... looking forward to another good weight loss over the next few days & onward toward goal!..

hugs

4 pounds is great! Congrats ! I'm not weighing for a while. I've become a slave to weighing and need a breatk! I love the flexibility of this plan too and I feel better!

Here is a great article from Dr. Mercola's site about exercise and intermittent fasting and the benefits of doing this: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/ar...lly-young.aspx I'll admit that I didn't read the whole article as some of it was just too technical for my brain right now (lol) but I did read most of it. I just thought I would share it with you guys since we are all doing IF The timing of this article is ironic as I just started IF this week. I've been getting emails from this web site now for a few months. Maybe this is a sign

If for some reason you can't read the article you may have to join his site which requires entering in your email address and getting signed in through a link they send you through email. It's worth the effort as there is a lot of great info emailed to you
