@ohmai Not sure why the third day is hard. Good point you made about it not really being hunger though! I drink green tea and water all day. the green tea seems to help. I've found that the longer I do this the easier it gets... Good luck!

Down a pound this week!

@jyoyo If the water took care of the problem it sounds like you found your answer. Hang in there!

Hey guys!!! I'm still here. Holding steady at 163 and I'm ok with that. My pants are still getting looser. Waiting for my body to decide it's ok to drop this last 10 lbs!

Is it weird that I love feeling mildly hungry? I guess that's better than my previous need to never feel hungry.

@ValRock Wow! Good going. You are so close to goal, and that's when it seems to take forever If you pants are still getting looser you are good to go. Measurements are a better gauge than scales any day!

@ValRock...I don't think it's weird at all. When I feel a little hungry, I sort of feel like I really am losing weight, probably cause I'm not so bloated from eating too much or whatever. Plus, when I'm not all bloated and stuff...my clothes feel better...and my wedding ring isn't so tight!!!

FassGal, welcome! Jump right in and I wish you much success. You can do it.

I agree with you ladies, I love the feeling of being hungry during my fast as well because it says to me that some of my fat is burning away and that I'm being strong and won't give in.
You all have a great weekend.

Hey Monique! Good idea to start an IF support thread. For everyone, especially the new people that are interested in learning more about IF I'll share my experience.

I recommitted to losing weight starting March 1st. My general tool is just calorie counting. I decided that I was going to stay off the scale for the whole month of March and not weigh again until April 1st. Around mid March someone started a thread about IF and it was the first time I'd heard of it. I kept along with the thread for a few days and also did some looking around online.

IF really appealed to me mainly because I'd always heard you need to eat smaller meals throughout the day to keep your metabolism going and I've always hated doing so. I would eat a small meal and still be hungry and already be thinking about my next meal that was 2 hours away. IF doesn't subscribe to that metabolism idea and there is even some research that's been shared pointing to the idea that periods of fasting are actually really good for your metabolism.

I decided to definitely give it a try. March 13th I started. I decided to make my eating window from 2pm to 8pm. I also decided to continue calorie counting. I need some bit of structure and I didn't think it was a good idea for me personally to just be able to eat whatever I wanted even in my window. So I started eating my calorie range of 1200-1600 from 2 to 8 everyday. The first few days I was getting hunger pangs in the morning because my body was used to eating earlier in the day. After a few days it wasn't a problem anymore. I asked about drinking things during the fasting period and some long time IFers told me that it was fine to drink water and also coffee and tea were good. John, who will hopefully show up in here because he has a lot of great info, said I could even use some sweetener if I wanted, he just said I should make sure the calories don't add up to more then 50 I believe. Not a problem for me because the sweetener I use in my hot tea only has maybe 5 calories and I usually have 3 cups of hot tea durning my fast time.

I also asked about exercise and they said there was no reason not to exercise during the fasting period unless you don't feel right. I always exercise during my fasting period and have had no problems with it.

So when April 1st came I had my weighin and I was down 14.4 for the month. That's the most weight I've ever lost in a month, so while I can't say for certain IF had any effect on that. I can't say it didn't either. =)

April was a tough month for me, my husband and I were having some problems and it was a tough time and I fell off the wagon a bit, then I went on vacation for a week and then when I got back I was just out of sorts and wasn't really trying. For the month of April I had a gain of 2.2lbs. Which isn't nearly as bad as I thought it'd be. =) I got back on track starting yesterday and IF was a breeze. I didn't have any problems in the morning, I just fell back into it very easily and I'm hoping for a smooth month with some great progress to come.

I really love IF and I'm so glad I found out about it. I'm not an expert by any means, but I'd be glad to try to help anyone who has any questions and I'd also love to learn more from others who have experience with IF.
Hey TooManyDimples! Your story is inspiring. Thanks for sharing.

Hi all! I guess I will stop lurking now and say hi. I kept meaning to drop in, but things have been too busy for me to write while I'm at work.

I have been doing IF for two months now and I can't believe how well it is working for me.

A little background: I have been an Intuitive Eater for a year and a half, which worked well, but I plateaued about a year ago and never hit my original goal of 145. I chalked it up to 152 being my body's ideal natural weight until I read about IF.

This winter I also began to have problems with my blood sugar being too low. My doctors tested me for hypoglycemia (I'm borderline) and put me on a micro-meal diet with more protein. My meals were already small and frequent due to Intuitive Eating (IE), but even with the extra protein I continued feeling miserable and low-energy all of the time. I would test my blood sugar every morning and it would be in the 70's. I started counting my calories and found myself in the 1500-1600 range most often.

I read about IF and wondered if the micro meals were part of my problem. I remembered that I usually didn't have symptoms when I traveled with my husband, who inadvertantly had me fasting for 14 hour stretches because he isn't a morning or breakfast person. And I remembered that I usually lost a little weight during those trips, despite eating larger meals in restaurants. So, I finally tried IF, and I carefully monitored my blood glucose to make sure I didn't hurt myself.

The first few weeks were a little rough symptom-wise with headaches. I probably should have started with a 10 hour window, but I was too eager. Then I continued to have headaches when I dropped back to a 10 hour window, so I figured I might as well keep it at 8 hours. I noticed I had more energy with an 8 hour window anyway. Eventually my symptoms disappeared, although I occasionally still feel ravenous a couple hours before I break my fast.

I'm happy to say that my glucose woes have disappeared. Now my glucose is always in the 90's when I check it in the mornings. I feel so much better than I did with the micro meals; no more dizziness or fatigue.

I initially wondered if IF would be completely opposite of IE (with ignoring the hunger and all), but I've found that the two plans can work well together. I have simply pushed my hunger to a more convenient time and I can absolutely say I am eating for true hunger when it is time. My body is now used to 2 or 3 larger meals and its cues respond accordingly.

And... I finally hit my goal weight of 145, which my body has maintained for almost a month now.

Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself, share my story, and thank everyone for sharing their stories. Without you guys, I would still be feeling miserable and not knowing why. I feel so blessed now. Thank you!

@Katterina That's great! I also have a friend who is controlling her hypoglycemia with IF. Too bad "mainstream" medicine isn't catching on! Congratulations

Katterina - CONGRATULATIONS!

Having your blood sugar levels under control is fantastic! The extra 10 lbs is the icing on the cake!

This is a great example of how conventional wisdom is often wrong. You might want to let your doctor know if you haven't already and maybe send him this link

Default 31 Inches By 31st Birthday! Begins Today.

Congrats Katterina!!!

So today I start to get serious about this. I want a 31 inch waist (at the bully button) by my 31st birthday. I have enough time, and I know that I can do it. I am stronger than temptation and I can overcome any psychological barriers.

Let's do this!

So glad you shared your story Katterina. That is how I envision the perfect way of eating, combining IE and IF. It's great to know that you have been able to do it and be successful!

I keep forgetting about this thread since it's in a section I don't often click on. =) Still going strong with IF, hoping to be close to 225 for my June 1st weighin.

FassGal ~ Thank you. I hope by the end of my journey I'll have inspired many. =)

Great story Katterina, thanks for sharing.

Hi

I know there is no perfect or correct way for everyone to do IF the same way, but I'm Just curious as to whether you all fast every day or only on alternate days or just a couple days a week and are still having success.

Thanks
