I know there is no perfect or correct way for everyone to do IF the same way, but I'm Just curious as to whether you all fast every day or only on alternate days or just a couple days a week and are still having success.
Thanks
This is a good question. In my opinion we should make things as easy as possible on ourselves. Our bodies for the most part respond best to habitual patterns when it comes to things like sleeping and eating. Thus, in my opinion, pick a method and do it regularly.
I would think it would be more difficult to do 2-3 24 hour fasts a week and eat "normally" the rest of the time but plenty of people have done that.
I've been doing a 16 hour fast 8 hour feeding window for around 15 months. Very easy.
In the end - fat loss or gain is a matter of calories. IF Is just another method of helping us achieving this.

I do 2 or 3 times a week. I dont do two days on the trot
Doing a 24hr Fast i really dont see how i can
I much prefer my IF days to my non IF days .
Doing a IF day does get me out of the scales sticking
@elkay I do 19 hours fast/ 5 hours eat every day. However, there are days when I am not able to do it due to social commitments. No worries! If it happens it happens. Like John, I do better with a "schedule."
Good morning all. What a weekend. I went to a baby shower on Saturday. I ate all day long! You better believe I gained back the three pounds I lost last week. LOL. That's why this is a learning experience. For parties, etc. I have to have a game plan so that I don't over eat....those calories add up quickly.
Anyway, I'm starting over and hopefully those three pounds will be lost again by next Monday.
I regained a few pounds this week. Got sidetracked with disrupted sleep pattern. Got a good night's sleep last night, plus have reduced my eating window by two hours and pushed it back an hour, closer to bed time, so I'm not hungry just before I go to bed. It's helping, because I've lost most of what I gained.
I'm finding the 18-hour fasting window easier for me to manage the food. I spend most of the day drinking water and tea. I can better manage avoiding the carbs too, since I tend to go to something like toast or pasta in between meals. I'm eating a lot more vegetables now.

My fast is going well so far this morning.

Monique those 3 lbs plus a few more will be gone! My Monday was very similar to your Saturday. I attended a charity golfing event, where I ate lunch and dinner of several courses, plus tons of snacks and two beers while on the course. Yesterday I ate only lunch with a work friend, which included dessert. Today will be another good day.
I love the fact that on IF, I can have dessert AND not feel guilty about it!
Thanks, Fassgal. You're right too because this morning I was shocked to see that I already lost 1 1/2 of those three pounds. They come and go quick, that's for sure. So long as you put in the effort. I think me drinking lots of water helps too.
I got a PM about IF so I'm posting it here anonymously as well as replying. Maybe someone else will have the same question and benefit.
Hi John,
I've been doing a lot of reading on this site and other sites about IF...ESE in particular. I've gone to a bunch of different blogs and I've also gone to Brad Pillon's site. I am EXTREMELY interested in starting the 24hr fast for 5 days (M-F), and then eat regularly on the weekends (smart choices, of course.) I am currently 6ft tall and 320 pounds - I need to lose a bunch of weight...do you think this way of eating would be good for someone like me? I am soooo sick of worrying about what to eat 6 times a day, and soooo sick of counting calories (i'm eating 1800 calories a day.) I just want to know your opinion, and tips for me if you have any.
Thanks so much,
Anon
I don't think there is anything wrong with your idea but it might be difficult to stick with. ESE seems to be more about doing a 24 hour fast 2 or 3 times a week rather than five. You could give it a try and see how it works - I have only done one 24 hour fast and it wasn't too tough but I greatly prefer the leangains method of fasting for 16 hours and eating for 8.
Basically under your plan 5 times a week you would be eating one big meal a day. This actually has a name. They call it the warrior diet. I bring this up so you can take a look at what other people have said about it and their experiences. It would be important to note that you would need to consume a lot of protein in a single meal. Somone your size should be getting a minimum of 100g of protein a day. That is a lot to consume in one meal for some people.
Since you don't like counting calories you might want to skip IF for now and just try paleo or Atkins. (They can be combined with intermittent fasting later I just think it would be easier to make one big change at a time.)
Although it takes a little effort and time the important thing in my opinion is to experiment a little with different plans and find out which one works for you. Every diet plan works if you follow it but finding the one that is going to be relatively easy FOR YOU to follow is the important thing because ultimately the eating habits you have led you to where you are and we need to develop and follow new habiits. The idea of losing weight on a diet and then going back to "normal eating" is not the right way of thinking.
Hey guys!
Just discovered ESE today, actually, surfing the web. I was at a healthy weight when I started college 4 years ago (graduating in a few weeks!) and have always watched what I eat, but I've gained about 15 pounds since my freshman year. I exercise regularly and eat mostly whole/unprocessed foods. I have tried everything, but really just haven't been able to get the extra pounds off.
I'm going to try my first ESE fast from today's dinner to tomorrow's dinner and will update on how it goes. I would love to do 2 fasts/week.
I do have a question, and I apologize if it's already been answered:
On ESE, if I fast 24 hours- 2 times a week, my total end of week calorie count should be ~3500 calories less than it normally would have been, correct? In other words, you're not really supposed to eat more after the fast to make up for anything, right?
So glad I found this forum. You guys are inspiring! Looking forward to hearing/seeing more results
