I like how he says that exercise in the fasting state is better for the muscles and aging process. I think I'm going to start doing this instead of walking after I eat...
  • Day 4 of IF. So far I've lost 4 pounds!! Which is awesome and amazing.. cause I've been stalled for a month.. I got TOM last night though =( so we'll see how this works out...

Its getting easier waiting till my window to eat.. Especially today cause my window opens when I get off.. where I'm heading straight to a daddy day bbq!

Think I may have to try a 24 hour fast soon!

  • Quote: Here is a great article from Dr. Mercola's site about exercise and intermittent fasting and the benefits of doing this: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/ar...lly-young.aspx I'll admit that I didn't read the whole article as some of it was just too technical for my brain right now (lol) but I did read most of it. I just thought I would share it with you guys since we are all doing IF The timing of this article is ironic as I just started IF this week. I've been getting emails from this web site now for a few months. Maybe this is a sign

If for some reason you can't read the article you may have to join his site which requires entering in your email address and getting signed in through a link they send you through email. It's worth the effort as there is a lot of great info emailed to you
Wow!.. thanks for posting this article link... he said it's a radically new concept & boy, was he right... it's certainly worth a try... at my age (62), having big muscles is definitely not my goal, but having younger brain & muscles would be wonderful... he said to have a protein shake within 30 minutes after working out... so, I suppose that would open my eating window???.. some days that would be earlier than others & it would make it at least an hour earlier every day than I've been doing it... I don't really want to lengthen my window, it's already 6 hours & seems to work for me... what do y'all think?..

  • I've been on vacation for a week and I'm finding that there are challenges to IF when traveling with other people. Hard to avoid food except by being borderline anti-social. And also hard to cut calories when there's so much encouragement to join in the drinking! I don't drink as much as these people do! (A few start with breakfast!) And then they talk to me about how little food they eat...Good God! If I were getting that many of my calories from alcohol, I probably wouldn't eat so much either!

I managed to stay on track with caloric intake from food, but then toss in a beer or slowly nurse a glass of wine and before I knew it, I'd added a couple hundred calories. And then the resolve to stop eating after the drinking has commenced goes out the window. Fortunately I have been a lot more active and I think that helps. My very tight size 24 pants that I packed along are now fitting.

I'm leaving for home tomorrow morning, so I'm looking forward to getting back on track. Back to more vegetables and lean proteins. Back to low carbs. Back to sobriety! I just can't handle losing weight with so much alcohol involved. And I can't really tell if I feel so crappy because I'm a little hung over, or from the lack of sleep, or I'm starting to feel a new level of old.

I felt really young last night...caught U2 at Angels Stadium. Awesome show! Danced for several hours. I like that kind of aerobic exercise!

Yeah, he is pretty specific about having the protein shake 30 minutes after exercise. I know some people open two small windows during the day instead of one big one. Maybe that would work for you? My window is in the evening after work so I will just exercise and then drink a shake and then eat a meal I guess. That's what I'm thinking of doing anyway
  • Georgia, it sounds like you had a great time

I think that guy is making a lot of conclusions based on some sketchy inconclusive evidence.

How long after you workout are you eating? What kind of workout are you doing? Are you feeling less strong by waiting to eat?

Bottom line is if what you're doing is working don't fix it.

Hang in there! I know you will feel great after you do it!
  • I'm SO GLAD I found this thread, I didn't know what I have been doing a lot had an actual name/following! I just called it "saving up" for a big dinner But I was scared it wasn't "right" so I stopped doing it a month or so ago, altho I still find myself naturally doing it without thinking anyway. Well now that I see it's a real thing, and NOT unhealthy, I am so doing this today! My window will open around 2 because I'm going out to dinner and will need to eat something a few hours before so I don't go completely bananas and blow it.

    Awesome!

Thanks, JohnP!.. you've set my mind at ease... my workouts vary from day to day, weight lifting twice a week, Zumba twice a week, kickboxing once a week, & working with a trainer once a week... all on separate days, except for Fridays when I stack weights & Zumba... & no, I haven't been feeling less strong by waiting to eat... in fact, I've been feeling great!.. so, it doesn't need fixing at all... whew!..

    hugs

  • Yes, Zumba is a blast!.. I'm a major klutz, so if I can do it, you can...
