  • Welcome and thank you for the information. Yes, that is definitely a good point about not just stuffing your face when your fast is over. Haha. I remember day 1 for me and at 3:00p.m. I had a cheeseburger, onion rings, a sweet coffee drink and a glazed doughnut! LOL. It's all about common sense really. If you wanna lose even more weight faster then just don't make a habbit of eating that way.

  • What intermittent fasting really needs is a good FAQ
  • Welcome, John...you snuck in here as I was still typing to pinkflower. Haha. I appreciate your info. too.

  • Thanks Monique for starting this thread!

John-- We totally need a FAQ for IF.

Yesterday I moved my window up and ate at 10:30 am and was done eating by 6pm. It was weird, but I did it so I could go out to breakfast with my friends. I think my normal eating time is around noon-1pm, so I suppose I've learned my lesson. By 6pm I was disappointed that I couldn't eat anymore.
  • Hi Monique and all! Nice to read everyone's experiences on IF.

I've been trying IF on and off for the past week. I really like it! If I go off, it is due to social gatherings or feeling like eating breakfast, but then I close the window within 7-8 hours. I know some people do 6 or 5 hours for their window. I'm aiming to achieve 6 hours from 2-8pm. I believe that is sustainable for me. I know this will take some time to get used to, but I do like feeling hungry for my first meal, and I like the fasting period in the morning when I workout at the gym. The empty stomach feeling makes me work out harder for some reason and without having a full stomach or a stomach that is trying to digest food eaten 2 hours earlier. I'm going to start full on again tomorrow and track progress here.
  • You're welcome, Txalupa. Glad you can join us.

Welcome, Beila. Glad you enjoy doing IF like I do. You're plan sounds great.

Well, it's after three and I just ate my first meal of the day. So, I had a successful fast; which is great because I'm a line cook which obviously is the worst job one could have while trying to lose weight. LOL.

  • Great to hear everyones input its very encouraging.
Sorry if I sound a bit dumb on this, but can I just check that I will be doing this correctly
I was planning to fast one day a week for around 19hrs to start for the first couple of weeks to see how I can handle it, then increase two 2 days and go to 24hrs...... so I would then fast from say, around 7pm Tuesday to 2pm Wed then eat between 2pm and 7pm on the Wed, do I then go back to eating normally but sensibly the rest of the week, ie breakfast, lunch, dinner or whatever until the next Tuesday when I would fast as above again.
Or have I got that completely wrong and I should be following this routine every day for it to work and not just 1 or 2 days a week

    Thanks
  • Hi, everyone. New to IF, but I've read up on it alot over the last year. (Just think of where I could be right now if I acted a year ago! No time for regrets though ) - I won't officially start until Wednesday though. I let hubby choose dinner and I've ended the day on a carb-y note. I'll be starving all day tomorrow as a result and an attempt at IF will be torture! Sugar and breads do that to me, so I plan on a IF + Low Glycemic. Is anyone else doing this? Are most of you using the 5 or 6 hour windows? or 24 hour fasts?

There are four main ways that I have read.
    1) Leangains style - fast for 16 hours - eat for 8 hours. This is what I do.
    2) Fast 5 style - fast for 19 hours - eat for 5 hours.
    3) Eat stop Eat - fast for 24 hours 2-3 times a week.
    4) Warrior diet - eat one big meal a day.

    Hope this helps.
  • How's everyone doing today? So far so good with me. I'm sticking with my fast; none of my usual snacking and tasting going on. LOL. Last night, I randomly decided to extend my eating window for a few cookies. Haha. No big deal....thats still a 16 hour fast from then until I eat today :-). As long as I'm strict with my morning fast, that's what matters most to me :-).

Anyway, hope to hear from you all soon.

  • Hey there Monique and company!

Doing my first ESE 24-hour fast today. Have a final weigh-in for a fitness/nutrition challenge tomorrow and I want to shed as much as possible. Been hovering at 306.5 since Friday. Would so love to break past 305. I started the challenge at 320 lbs. 10 weeks ago, so I'm happy to have progressed as much as I have. Am now capable of holding full planks for a minute! I'm sure dropping some weight helps with that too.

I'll let you know my results tomorrow.

Challenge coming up...going off on a retreat for the weekend. They serve meals there, but I'm bringing my own food and cooking for myself. The only food challenge I see is social eating situations. No alcohol involved, so I won't be losing my resolve due to a cocktail or two. Their breakfasts are so lame, so I won't be making the decision to "just do a little tasting". I'm packing in my own beverages (iced herbal and green tea). The only thing I'm a little stressed about is other women getting in my face about what I'm eating, why I'm not eating, why am I not eating what they're eating... But it's an old emotional circuit about family and I'll have an opportunity to work on breaking that!
  • Hey guys! Doing really well today .

Fasted until 5 last night and had lasagna with my family. Had a big veggie salad at about 9 and was STUFFED. It's lunchtime now and I'm enjoying a diet coke and the sunshine on the back patio.
  • Ok, Started my first fast at 7pm last night, its now 7am Wed morning and my standard brekkie of a cup of tea and slice of buttered toast is just screaming out to me to come eat it..................yum
Off to work soon so that should hopefully get me through the day to about 2pm. (hope its no ones birthday at work today with cake for morning tea )
  • Hi everyone
I'm really interested in trying this type of eating. I'm home with my baby daughter all day while my husband is at work so I think I could do this without seeing all the yummy food my husband would eat.
  • Ok..............its now 12.30pm and I am starved, all I can think about is eating something, I have untiil 2pm and my first fast of 19hrs are up and I cant stop looking at the time on the bottom of my PC I have had to open a can of Coke Zero to keep me from eating something. Is this a big No No to have the Coke Zero?

Im sure this will get easier for me but I dont think I could do this every day for the first week or even two, maybe very second day.
