It promises to be another beautiful day here in the mountains.
Bob: It sounds like the two of us may have had the same awful sinus thing that is going around. I am happy to report that I am finally feeling well and I hope that you are better in no time. I am actually living in a little communtiy called Balsam Grove. It is off highway 215 North from Rosman about nine miles. From our house it is about another nine miles up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is such a wonderful area. It takes us about 30 minutes to drive into Brevard and another 20 to 30 minutes to get to Hendersonville.
Gracious: Procrastination is my number one biggest problem in life. I always feel such a victory when I, at times, beat it.
Sef: You are right about Hobby Lobby. I was certainly surprised to find that my daughter found the little kit there. It probably does have a lot to do with the location. She lives in the Houston/Galveston Texas area.
As usual...in a hurry to post before getting to work....why in a hurry you ask? Cause I got my butt out of bed and walked this morning. Another lovely day in Palm Desert, Ca. where it wasn't even cool at 5:30am. UGH!!!
ToniHaven't tried the pumpkin bread, but I'm going to bake this weekend. Don't know if I have enough courage to try the zucchini bread again...I'm still gagging from that recipe (not a SB posted one, so no one worry!)
Deb Haven't peaked on the recipe board, cause I usually just wait until it's completed, then print everything out, but I guess I could cut-n-paste to word, then print for one or two for now. I just found out that there is going to be a big "Cherry Festival" on route to the raspberry pickin' farm. Sounds like a trouble weekend for me...I can never control myself when it comes to buying all that farm fresh produce!
Tranquil WTG!!!! See, all that hard work is paying off!
Serene Cute pictures of you and Tranquil Thanks for sharing. Wish I had a scanner!
Jack-K I'll take some of that rain your having....send it over my way PLEAZZZE!!! Dan that Man was watching our weather forecast and was being sarcastic and saying"Oh, we're having a cold front, it's only going to be 97 today!" Better than the 116 we had a few days ago. GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!!
BOB Once you come over girlfriend...you won't want to leave. I'm telling you this town is cute as a button! You should check out their web site while you'll at home drinking your OJ!
I think it's www.victorianferndale.com....see if that works, and you'll see what all the fuss is about!
Received my photo booklet I sent away for from my future town Ferndale. It's too cute!!! Hoping to get up there for a visit in July, since June isn't looking good! Like to drag the kids up so they can see it's "normal". Son is graduating from 8th grade...I don't know about the rest of the country, but they sure make a fuss. Having a dance tonight at a ritzy Country Club. Monday gets to go to Disneyland (I didn't get to do that until HS graduation!)
and then Tuesday is the ceremony over at the park ampitheater.
I'm real porud of him though, but time is going by too fast! Makes me feel old thinking my guy will be in High School! I'm not old enough to be a Mom of a High Schooler!
Okay....really running behind schedule....I am so dang happy it's FRIDAY!!!!!!! YIPEEEEEEE!!!!!!
Good morning everyone... I just got off my treadmill after walking a mile... I'm so excited... Last night a friend backed out of walking with me at the campground so I went by myself. It was great. I kept a good pace and walked 30 min. Thats so good for me. I'm so pleased. Then this morning I walked 30 min. = 1 mile on my treadmill. My heart doctor is going to love me!!! I feel like I'm walking on air right now... LOL....... I just pray I can keep this up... I can't believe how good I feel. The more I do the better I feel... Hope everyone is up and about this morning. Isn't it great for you working ladies its Friday!
gracious- Oh good luck with your little birdies. They must be adorable... Those are the best kind of pasta dishes the one that everything but the kitchen sink in it.. LOL... Have a great day...
Jack-K- You are pure motivation for me.... I just have to stay up with you gal.....That four lbs. you lost is bitten my butt... LOL.....If you say you'll try those sweet potato chips again then that means I'll have to try them. But I love sweet potatoes just with butter, baked. Good for you on your walk... I wish I got out in the morning. I can't walk out of the front door because it goes straight up a giant hill and so I drive to a place. But the air is so much better in the morning...
Tranquil- I'm so thrilled for you, you're doing wonderful and now a loss. WOOO EEEEEE Woman! I must have missed how your personal trainer is? And how its going. Is it real hard? Do you like it?
Serene- Thanks for posting the picture.. Its so good to see the people we're talking to... The waiter looked yummy. Wow did I say that! Its so good to get to know you. I think the best weight to loose is the weight you take off for yourself. Thats the kind that stays off the best. Pretty soon you'll be a new you.... Sounds like your plate is full and I wish you the best with all of that.. I know what you mean about looking for a job when you've been out of the job market for a long time. This is my second marriage and when my ex and I got a divorse I was scared to death to be on my own. I had never really held a permanet have to job and I had two little boys. But there was lots of adventure and excitement in controling my life for a change.
Homeschooling Mama- LoL, its a good thing I live in the country. I'm 3 miles from town and have no neighbors around so I can keep away from allot of temptation.... Soon you'll be strong when you get that old sugar out of your system. Glad the Fat Blockers didn't do anything to you. I also have heart trouble and high blood pressure so have to be very careful what I put in my mouth. Oh how terrible about your freezer. My goodness he should have had to pay for it.... Hope you have a little better week-end....
jbug- Glad you held your own. Sometimes that all we can do, and sometimes we just have to take an hour at a time. Then that turns into more hours and more and days and weeks. Pretty soon you're living the SB WOE.
Guess I'll go get dressed and have some oatmeal. Going for coffee with a friend or hopefully tea.... Have a great day you all...
Last night my oldest DS played his last baseball game of the season. They lost the second tournament game in a row and were eliminated. He had a fun season getting to play second base and pitcher
Youngest DS doesn't play again until Saturday... hoping to stick to our streak, and most of all to have FUN!!!
Well I almost made an *** of myself this week...LOL (BIG shock I know) As you know DH bought a business that sells cookies. (Famous Amos, and Murray Sugar Free) Well I've been selling in the courthouse to the different offices because we have several diabetic deupties and others. So... I go into the license department and pick up some orders from the lady there, and I see the CUTEST guy behind the counter...(I'm a terminal flirt, DH loves it though, it's one of his favorite things about me) and I said.. "So what do you do? Just sit back there and look good?" Well... Two days later I found out that the youngster is none other than the LICENSE DIRECTOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG... I about fell out. But... he was a great sport about it!!
Hey NANCE - I went to my MIL's last night... ARE YOU PROUD??? But I think I'll wait a week or so to post it, cause I'd hate to ruin all your fun of harassing me for it
OK, OK.... I weighed in at 172... which is 2 pounds above where I wanna be, but it's the week before TOM comes for a visit, and I'm usually up about 2-3 pounds this week because I eat like a horse, and bloat like a whale. My rings are leaving marks on my fingers so I know I'm retaining a little H2O... It will be down where I want it by next week I'm sure It's still 3 lbs down from last time
Well I'm off to get my paycheck... have a Lovely Friday everyone
Its been a very rough week for me here… Work has been as stressful as it gets and I’m just glad this week is almost gone.
DS’s team won another game last night which made us 9 wins and 6 losses for the season. County tournament starts next week – should be very interesting!!
Beth – you are a riot!! We’ve just simply got to meet up very soon! Lookin good in that pic – your face is very slim now! Funny how we are always our own worst critic. It took a lot of nerve for me to post my pic.
Everyone else – thanks for the nice comments about my pics! I LOVE my digital camera!!
My eating has been much much better this week since I renewed my SB vows on Monday. I had almost gone back to my starting point after that short vacation! Shame on me, I know… But from Monday until today I’ve come down 3.5 lbs, so I’m on the right road now. I’ll let you gals know when I make it back to my pre-xmas low – hope it doesn’t take too long!!
Gotta run for now – You girls be good and have a great weekend!!
I meant to ask if any of you have ever heard of or read about the insulin resistance diet?
Someone told me about it because I have hypothyroidism and that condition sometimes brings insulin resistance problems with it. I love SB, but wonder about this one. I'm tempted to buy the book...
Starting this post before I have to take Lauren to school and Eli to work (still no car for him).
Just got in from my walk and I'm drenched! It is so hot out there! I have to stop sweating before I can throw on my schmata (raggedy old clothes, so to speak) so I can take Eli & Lauren, so I sit here on a towel, in a towel. Got my 4.5 miles in 46:05-didn't jog the last 1/2 mile and now wish I had, could of probably done it in 45 minutes, or so. This is my 5th day in a row walking/jogging and thus far have logged 22.5 miles-this is the "old Debbie" back at work. Sunday will make it 6 days, just like it use to be-I'm happy
Hope you don't mind me having BRAGGING RIGHTS today, the day after the awards ceremony at Lauren's school. Of course each and everyone one of us who have children are proud of all their accomplishments no matter how big or small, but when they are recognized for putting the effort forward to be the best they can be and being singled out among all others, that makes it even more special. First of she was asked to lead everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance. I had asked her if she had to say anything in particular and she said no. Lauren gets up there, introduces herself as a proud 8th grade student at AMS, yadda, yadda and leads the pledge, and thanks them and asks them to be seated. I tell her later that "I thought you didn't have to say anything" she said she didn't she just made it up as we sat waiting for it to begin-sounds like a small thing, but honestly, you'd think she had rehearsed this. Anyhow, Lauren's first award was for 8 years perfect attendance. She was the only one in the school to get this huge trophy for that Then she recieved another trophy for Excellence in Advance Drama and last the Presidential Award which is a certificate that's awarded to those students who have a 3.5gpa or higher, scores 95% or better on all testing and other odds and ends. Of course, you can see, I'm a proud Mom and very proud of her
Many have requested my CRUSTLESS SPINACH QUICHE RECIPE You can find it on our 2000 RECIPE COLLECTION BOARD, but thought I'd post it here to make it easier for those who haven't figured out how to do a search as of yet. So, here's the link:
3oz 1/3 LESS FAT PHILLY CHREAM CHEESE,softened
1C Milk ( I use skim)
2 large eggs
1 carton Egg Beaters (to equal 2 eggs)
2C 50% less fat shredded cheddar cheese (I used Cabots)
1 10oz pkg frozen chopped spinach, thawed and very well drained (squeeze, squeeze, squeeze! - if too much moisture is in it, quiche will be wet)
1C frozen chopped broccoli, thawed & well drained (squeeze too)
1/2 small onion, chopped
5 fresh mushrooms, sliced thin (approx. 1/2c)
1/4tsp pepper
1/2tsp salt
In mixing bowl, beat cream cheese. Add milk eggs and egg sub., salt and pepper. Beat until smooth. Stir in remaingin ingredients. Transfer to a 10in quich pan coated with nonstick cooking spray (I used a pie dish). Bake 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out pretty clean. Serves 8.
I'm far behind with posting but will try to do my best to get caught up. If for any reason I don't address you directly, please forgive, it's after 11am and I'm still in my schmata!
BETH, you just have to take a gander at yourself and just love the way you look and just know that as beautiful as you look now, you'll be even more gorgeous (is that possible?) as you continue to lose weight. I'm sure just a good kick in the pants will get you back into the right frame, you sure don't want me to bring the traveling DETOX DUNGOEN and come see you-it won't be pretty (even though you will be).
JACKK, why not come a day or two earlier for you leave on your cruise ship and visit? THEN, I could teach you the fine are of bargain shopping!!!
ROSE, will have to look at those socks you mentioned-thanks for the tip!
BOB, Michael has asked when you are coming for another visit? Eli says you're overdue and he'll give you some Columbian and me, I say come and visit, and we'll go get you a decent Cobb Salad!
JBUG, I eat couscous/bulgur all the time, not sure if that's what gives me gas, or the beans I usually eat with it, really hadn't thought about it much. You may have an intolerance to it. If this occurs all the time then I'd just say to nix eating it. What are Munch Um's? I'd be happy to look at your menu-just be patient with me, it some times takes me a while to get back on e-mails, I get so overwhelmed some times with them. You can e-mail me at [email protected]. My Aunt & Uncle live in WPB, on the island (rich part of family). Hope you go see your family because we could definitely get in a meeting!!!
MAMA, either don't take them to DQ, or give them the money and DON'T get out of the car!!! Remember, no one is holding that proverbial gun to your head. AND, I believe BIL is trying to sabotage you, unless he has no clue you are following this WOE, but if he does, then he's not helping you at all-I'm SURE you are much strong willed than that and can definitely say AND mean NO next time this should come up-RIGHT? I sympathize about the meat-it's happened to me more times than I care to count-our freezer outside, doors been left open, circuit breaker has popped-always something!
SERENE, CONGRATS on another 1.5lb loss! Great news! THANK YOU FOR POSTING THE PICTURES!! As I always say, it's so nice to put a name with a face. Boy, no wonder you and TRANQUIL are freinds, you look like you could be sisters! Oh, and the waiter, WHAT A HUNK!!! Don't feel you have to post a reply to each and every person all the time. There's many on the board who don't and can't do to time constraints/life. No one more than myself can understand this because I KNOW how long it can take me to post a reply to everyone-I've been on here for hours at a time, which is usual for me. You do what you can, when you can. If you can't post anything more than 2 lines that's fine too. Just to come on the board to say hello and let us know you're still with us, and doing okay is much better than nothing. There will be days that you WILL be able to post to each and every person, and that will be great! LOL, OMG, ex-2-b is in the garage with your DM? Okay, why is DM in the garage and why with ex-2-b? Oh, now I see, just read that explanation! But yes, it does sound like a Springer Show! What type of work do you think you'd like to get in to? I too need a J-O-B, I haven't worked in almost 3 years, so I can understand. Based on your weight you posted I'd recommend that you try a caloric intake of 2000-2100 calories. Do you have any idea what you are getting now? Just make sure you try to keep your ratios near the 30/40/30 that's recommended not only by SB but the RDA as well Would love for the two of you to come visit-think about it!!!!
TRANQUIL, you go girl! Glad to hear your down on the scale a bit more!!! Okay, let's see how we can get you to be better prepared when you don't pack a lunch. How does tuna in those new pouches sound with a packet of mayo and some Finn Crisp or Ryvita crackers stashed in your car-along with a plastic fork-nothing needs refridgeration and can be thrown together right in the pouch to mix-salt and pepper packets from any fast-food joint helps too.
NANCE, glad to hear you were out walking early again-good job. Hey don't worry about buying all the produce, that's not a problem (expect maybe on the pocket book), it could be worse, it could be a CHOCOLATE COVERED CHERRY FESTIVAL!!!
TONI, you are doing great with your walking indoors and out!!! You surely are reaping those benefits in more ways than one! That feel great feeling is a natural high-I know how you feel
TV, will look at that site later
JENN & DARAMUS, got your e-mails, will get back to you this weekend, I promise
Okay, it's almost noon. I'm going to the kitchen to make some chicken salad for lunch. I think I'm going to make a bean dish for dinner.
YEAH, good news! The kids' Dad just called and he was able to get this cruise he was trying to book to take them on June 16th for 1 week. His brother (the jerk) works PT for a cruise line and was waiting to see if any fares for family came up and he lucked out so the kids are going on a 1 week cruise to the Carbieean (San Juan, PR, St. Thomas and St. Martin). NOW, my Mom wants to know if I want to go somewhere with her. If I can find something ultra cheap last minute then maybe we can snag a deal of our own somewhere (Mom REALLY wants to go to either NC to her house there or Vegas). I personally really don't feel like going to NC since I was just there and I really don't care to drive that far again, so soon. Vegas, it's okay, but I told her I HAVE to get a car and I would HAVE to go to all 3 TJ's. Anyone have any other ideas or suggestions of places to go???
Okay, I'm outta here. Hope you all have a wonderful day and a fabulous weekend!!
Toodles
Debbie

I wanted to let everyone know that I am still here. Thanks you for the birthday wishes. It has been so busy at work that by the time I get home I do't even want to look at a computer. Ussually I can look in at work and post when I get home but that hasn't worked out this past two weeks.
It is very busy here at home too. My dad and mom hve moved in until their home it built. That should be sometime in November or December. Eating OP will be a challenge for a while. They eat a little different than we do and I don't want to have to cook two meals. They will eat like we do to some extent. Any suggestions are welcomed.
I am going to be a grandma again n January. My DS and DIL are expecting in Jan. We are excited. It will be a real bummer after the baby is born though since they live in Eureka which is 12 hours north of us. California is a long state.
TVthatsME - hope the team does well in the county tournement. Most of all I hope everyone has fun.I am glad it is friday too. Our work schedule gives me every other friday off. Today is an off day. I love the three day weekends.
Beth2374 - Having fun is the most important part. Don't you just love it when you do something so embrassing. You just want to hide under the table. It was nice that he took it so well.
Toni48 - keep up the good work. I know I would feel better if I walked everyday. I do alot of walking with my job but it isn't the same.
Nancemeister - How have you been. I am still trying to figure out when would be a good time to get together. My son is at a new job, painting houses, and guess where it will take him in the next two weeks. Yes... ferndale. He is an artist and has appreciation for the style of houses. He said the victorians are beautiful. My daughter asked if you would like her to send you ,via email, some information about scrap in a snap. She is a consultant for the company and I told here that you scrap all the time. let me know and I'll give her your address.
gracious - I bet you will be happy when all the redo is done. We are doing to start a redo in our bedroom. From floor to ceiling and everything inbetween. I am looking forward to the changes.
Jack-K - I can't wait to try your sweetpotato fries. I was not sure how to make them. I wasn't a great fan of them until I started to eat this way.
Tranquil - Good for you!! I hope that I can get back on the loosing side. This is the on;y time that being on the loosing side is a good thing.
I have to get going.
WELCOME to the new folks.
I will try to get back later today. Everyone have a great Friday.
Good afternoon! Yesterday just kicked my hiney. I'm still pooped. I ended up mowing about 2 and a half hours total. It was just too hot to do any more. I also walked 50 minutes with a friend. And the best part of the day was running with my daughter. Our longest stretch was .3 miles. The whole walk run was 1.2 miles and we ran half of it. My legs do great but I can't breath for squat. There has to be an art to breathing that I don't know yet. Okay..I guess I just need to get in shape still.
No mowing today. It's one and I don't feel motivated to do anything that will make me sweat yet.
Trish I am so sorry about the young man who lost his life. I don't swim well so I am almost paranoid about my kids and the water. We have a pond and I refuse to let the kids swim in it. Their dad let them go once with life jackets and I about had a fit. Between the snakes and the weeds I worry about them drowing. It hasn't happend again..and won't. Mean ole momma.
Yellowrose So glad you are feeling better.
Bob Hope you are feeling much better today. Nothing like a summer cold.
Toni You go girl! It is awesome that you are feeling better and sticking with your walking. Sorry your walking buddy bailed on you. Mine bails on me a lot. But only once this week. It's so much nice to have a walk or run buddy.
JBug It sounds like you might be sensitive to wheat.
HomeschoolMomma Good thing day camp is over...now you can stay clear of the DQ Next time your BIL brings it up think of something you like almost as good that is OP and it will help clear DQ from your head. Our mind can really make it hard at times. That's why we need to refocus sometimes. That is just terrible about all that meat. I hope that he or your insurance will help you recoup part of your loss.
Serene WTG on your weight loss! Hopefully when your soon to be ex leaves you will be able to destress and find some special time for yourself. It will get easier. ((hugzz))
Thanks for sharing the photos. You and Tranquil look just marvelous. There is a radience and glow to both of you. You can tell you were having a blast.
Tranquil Awesome that you are on a downward roll now..see..knew ya could do it.
Jack-K The sweet potato fries sound delicious. Sounds like something even my family would like. They love them fried but I'm trying to fry less and back more. So this sounds like a great option.
Gracious Sounds like you cook like I do...a little of this...a little of that..
Nancy Go Nancy...shake your bootie! You are doing so good with the walking. Way to keep up the good work.
Beth You are a mess girl.. I just love your energy and zest for life. I can just imagine your face when you found out who he was.
TV Great on the weight loss and getting back on track. You'll reach that pre-christmas low in no time.
Deb You should be proud of Lauren. Those are wonderful achievements. It's not often these days you see kids with that kind of motivation or dedication to anything much less school. See your WOL is rubbing off on her.
Thanks for the quiche recipe. I would love to make it but I already know that one serving would not be enough for me. Two would be more like it...soooo I guess I'd better stay away from that one.
Red1 Congrats on the new grandbaby. I hope by the time he or she gets here you will be able to visit. Twelve hours is a long trip. There are some points in Texas that are almost that far apart also.
This is gonna have to be quick. Have a lot of letters to get out before I leave. Just wanted to get caught up on posts for the weekend. I can't get back on until Mon, since my computer is still broken.
I am totally stressed with all the work going on here. Won't get better until July. I was fighting the urge to eat some SF candy. Fought it for 40 minutes, finally gave in. Only had 1 piece, a turtle SF. (I really wanted a drink) LOL.
Gracious, Glad your kids got new budgies. Loved the names, not typical bird names, but cute.
Tranquil, We got rain yesterday and it has really cooled things off. I had to wear a jacket for my walk this morning. Enjoy your salad.Loved the pics of you and Serene.
Nance, Good for your girl, getting that walk in. Keep up the good work. I don't think we are ever happy. Last week it was 94 when I walked and I complained it was hot, today it was 57 and I complained it was too cool. Never happy. When I graduated from HS we got to ride around our Ohio River on the Belle of Lou. Big adventgure. When my niece graduated HS (some 10 yrs later) they went to Hawaii. Times have changed. You aren't old, you just have an old son. Say yu started early.
Toni, Great going on your walking. I too feel better when I exercise. I thought I would skip today. Treat myself. But I couldn't do it. Afterwards, I was glad I didn't. Keep going on down with me.
Beth, WTG on the 3 pounds. You go girl. You better be careful who you flirt with from now on. Could get you in trouble. Sorry your oldest lost his game. Luck for your other DS.
TV, 3.5 pounds already this week, that is great. You will be down to your Xmas goal before you know it. Keep up the good work. GOod luck in your DS tournament games.
Deb, Major congrats to Lauren. How proud you must be. I would have been blubbering all through the program. 8 years PA is fabulous. That will help create good work ethics too. She will do great in HS. You are full of eating tips today. Enjoyed them. No vacation ideas from me, I always want to go the beach. I guess you want to go where there is no beach. LOL. New Orelans is nice, but will be hot now. The cruise the kids are taking is the same places we are going. How funny. It willb e a nice break for you and the kids will love it.
Red1, Congrats on being a grandma again. How exciting. 12 hours is too long away. As far as meals go for your parents, I would cook like you eat now, meats, veggies, fruits, if you have to fix a potato or something for them do so, but just fix enough for them. I'm sure others will ahve some ideas to. Good luck.
Country, Sounds like you had mega exercise yesterday. WTG.
Just made some pita pizzzas using Hunt's Pizza Sauce. Gross!! I'll never but it again! Even Ragu's is better. I used to use Progresso Pzza Sauce. It was so good, can't get it aound here. Don't know if it is legal or not, I used it for years but never read label....pre-SB!
Wrote up the year's history for the PW. Now have to get busy on HFH newslettter. Did get some letters written to various friends.
HOME - I hope you told that inspector he owes you $700 or else! I don't think that could be called a frivolous law suit! Loved the tidbit on skinny dipping!
SERENE - Thanx for posting pics. Nice to put faces to names. I didn't start working until the kids were almost out of school, actually DS graduated that year and DD was two years behind. Prior to marriage I was office manager of my parents business. When I went back to work I got a job through my volunteer work at the local nursing home (NH). They thought I was great with the people, so I started working in Recreation. One thing lead to another and I was a Recreational Therapist for the next 20 years! I loved it! That's the thing, try to go with something you realy enjoy!
JACKK - I love sweet potatoes but don't want them doctored up. My mother used to make a sweet potato casserole with marshmallows and pineapple, guaranteed to put you in diabetic coma! I have not tried the fries but I think you have inspired me!
TRANQUIL - DS is at the dangerous point, you know... feel like you want to do something - then discover you can't untilit's too later. The ouch time!
DEB - Definitely entitled to bragging rights! You should be very oroud.
In 2050 A.D. Bill Gates died in a car accident. He found himself in Purgatory being sized up by God...
"Well, Bill, I'm really confused on this call. I'm not sure whether to send you to Heaven or ****. Heaven or ****. After all, you enormously helped society by putting a computer in almost every home in the world and you created that ghastly Windows 95. I'm going to do something I've never done before. In your case, I'm going to let you decide where you want to go!"
Bill replied, "Well, thanks, God. What's the difference between the two?"
God said, "I'm willing to let you visit both places briefly if it will help you make a decision."
"Fine, but where should I go first?"
God said, "I'm going to leave that up to you."
Bill said, "OK, then, let's try **** first."
So Bill went to ****. It was a beautiful, clean, sandy beach with clear waters. There were thousands of beautiful women running around, playing in the water, laughing and frolicking about. The sun was shining, the temperature was perfect. Bill was very pleased.
"This is great!" he told God. "If this is ****, I REALLY want to see Heaven!"
"Fine," said God and off they went. Heaven was a high place in the clouds, with angels drifting about playing harps and singing. It was nice but not as enticing as ****.
Bill thought for a quick minute and rendered his decision. "Hmm, I think I prefer ****" he told God.
"Fine," retorted God, "as you desire."
So Bill Gates went to ****.
Two weeks later, God decided to check up on the late billionaire to see how he was doing in ****. When God arrived in ****, he found Bill shackled to a wall, screaming amongst the hot flames in a dark cave. He was being burned and tortured by demons.
"How's everything going, Bill?" God asked.
Bill responded-his voice full of anguish and disappointment, "This is awful, this is not what I expected. I can't believe this happened. What happened to that other place with the beaches and the beautiful women playing in the water?"
Shortly after the Pope had apologized to the Nation of Israel for the treatment of Jews by the Catholic Church over the years, Ehud Barak, the leader of Israel, sent back a message to the College of cardinals.
The proposal was for a friendly game of golf to be played between the two leaders or their representatives to show the friendship and ecumenical spirit shared by the Catholic and Jewish faiths.
The Pope met with his College of Cardinals to discuss the proposal. "Your Holiness," said one of the Cardinals, "Mr. Barak wants to challenge you to a game of golf to show that you are old and unable to compete I am afraid that this would tarnish our image to the world."
The Pope thought about this and as he had never held a golf club in his life asked, "Don't we have a Cardinal to represent me?"
"None that plays golf very well," a Cardinal replied. "But," he added, "there is a man named Jack Nicklaus, an American golfer who is a devout Catholic. We can offer to make him a Cardinal, then ask him to play Mr. Barak as your personal representative. In addition to showing our spirit of co-operation, we'll also win the match."
Everyone agreed it was a great idea. The call was made. Of course, Nicklaus was honored and agreed to play as a representative of the Pope.
The day after the match, Nicklaus reported to the Vatican to inform the Pope of the result.
"I have some good news and some bad news, Your Holiness," said the golfer.
"Tell me the good news, Cardinal Nicklaus," said the Pope.
"Well, Your Holiness, I don't like to brag, but even though I've played some pretty terrific rounds of golf in my life, this was the best I have ever played, by far. I must have been inspired from above. My drives were long and true, my irons were accurate and purposeful, and my putting was perfect. With all due respect, my play was truly miraculous."
"How can there be bad news?" the Pope asked.
Nicklaus sighed, "I lost to Rabbi Tiger Woods by three strokes."
Thought I'd get in a post before heading out. Eli called me a couple hours ago to tell me we were going to Outback for dinner with 2 of his shift-supervisors and one of the gals fiancees. I wasn't prepared to go out to dinner tonight. You'd think I'd be thrilled and delighted but honestly wasn't feeling so hot all day, stomach bothering me, gassy and last hour or two feeling nauseated-not sure why. I'm not in the mood to go but I have to If I try to eat I think I'll just get sick. Maybe I'll make a miraculous recovery in the next hour
Forgot to tell you this little story yesterday, guess you could say it would be part of the FRIDAY FUNNIES.
The door bell rang yesterday and since I was expecting my Mother I started spouting off at the mouth as I usually do when the kids aren't home to hear (and always in a fun way) how she's too %$)@ lazy to use her key, among a few other "choice" things. So I open up the door, and it's the UPS man! I was so embarressed! I asked him if he heard me yelling and he said "yes", so I told him I thought you were my Mother, forgive me. Talk about having egg on your face!!!
The weather is terrible, another reason I'd like to stay home, thundering, rain and some lightening. Hoping it will be clear tomorrow so I can go to some garage sales,
RED1, CONGRATS on the new addition that will be arriving in Janaury. I hope you had a good birthday. Hope things settle down a bit so we can see you a little more.
COUNTRY, sounds like your jogging is doing well. I think the heat really does us in when it comes to exercising. My legs will feel like tree trunks sometimes and breathing, I hate to even think what my lungs must look like inhaling all that lovely exhaust I get to whiff at! Do try the quiche recipe, it's not bad at all if you had to have 2 servings, but it's quite filling, esp. if you serve a salad along with it.
JACK, thanks for the congrats for Lauren. I was a little teary eyed, but I'm saving the monsoon tears for graduation in 2 years and then regenerataing for Lauren 2 years after. I'm sure there will be other happy to cry at events along the way, esp. with more award ceremonies in years to come. Paleese, I can only think of how my Mother is going to react, she already starts to tear up thinking about him going to college!
SEF, loved those Friday Funnies-thanks for sharing them!!!
Guess I'll reluctantly go get ready. Will try to check in later.
Have a great weekend!
