I'm watching THE OTHERS and OH....MY...GAWD!!! This is wierd..
I understand about the children and their not being able to be in the day light, but these people that work for Nicole Kidman, and now all these OTHER people... NANCY what did you think??? and VICTOR....he's the real child?
B....I....Z...Z...A....R...E.....!!!!!!
Hope everyone is having a good weekend...We finally got a good rain here, but the sun is coming out and I guess it's over with now. Whould have like for it to have gone on all night!
ROSE...My Mom is from Robbinsville and Burnsville, one brother lives in Hendersonville, the other down in Easley..I also have family in Travelers Rest...I love that area..been coming there since BEFORE I was born
Ladies...I'm off to do some laundry...I'll check in later!
HiedieHo All!!! There is a lot of noise outside, the skies darken and threaten but no rain cometh!!
Got my HFH newsletter articles done and am waiting on a return call from someone to finish it. I have a hard time writing it as we try to keep it one page (you KNOW how wordy I can be!) and right now there is so much going on to tell about.
I have a new idea, I think for each new home is built I will do a Home Sweet Home type sampler as a houswewarming gift. There's one lady that does a quilt or afghan.
RED1 - I will put down your dates and we'll see what we can do when time is closer. I still don't know for sure when I am going back east. I have never had hummus and the idea of making a batch of something I not sure I'd like sort of turns me off.
GUMBO - You must be doing something right as we see you here.
FRUIT - Glad you are up and about. Dr visit sounded awful. I'm sure doctors have heard everything since a little f--- isn't going to rattle his cage! Yes some meds can cause constipation or very hard stools, I have to use a stool softner if given coedine.
COUNTRY - Do you have a good brisket recipe? I tried one when we moved here, cause it seems it's a must eat food, and it was tough and not very flavorful. I mean, we could eat it but not relish it!
NANCE - I use this color because I like pink! Don't you? Seriously what's wrong? I never gave a thought to someone maybe not liking it! I'll think about it. My favorite is lavendar or purples but there is no pretty purple here.
Am trying the purple, we'll have to see. Gotta get off line so I can see if the people were trying to get me.
I just finished Flyladying! Also went grocery shopping and bought goodies - all fresh produce and healthy stuff - along with the ingredients for the quiche....
Sef - Sometimes it is difficult to see what you wrote - I have to highlight it to see it when I am at work - I think that is what Nance was trying to say - my monitor at home it is clear, but at work I cannot make out what you wrote.... pink is pretty
BOB - Did the Others surprise you with its twist?
Nance - Hope you have a good time at the Cherry Festival - sounds like a great thing to go to!!!!
Rosalie - Good for you on weighing only every other day - I cannot do that....Lately I have been weighing night and day - each day!!!
Serene - Tonight you are walking You will enjoy it - I walk around all the gorgeous mansions on the river - I fantasize as I walk about owning one of the estate homes and having large parties!
Yellow - Good for you getting out there and walking - I find myself missing my walks, even feeling guilty if I miss a night of walking. Tonight I am walking to make up for not having a walk last night. I felt pretty tired and worn out - so I passed out while watching Planet of the Apes on tv last night - today I have too much energy!
Toni - You are doing fantastic with all your walking! It is nice that you have the treadmill!!!
Beth - Won't it be absolutely fantastic to never have to buy Plus Size clothes but to buy anything you want!!!! That is such a dream I have - to just be able to walk into any store and buy things not plus sized!
Country - Wow that is a lot of mowing - and I am sure a lot of sweating - make sure you don't get dehydrated while out there!!!
Fruit - Hope you are feeling better soon and heal quickly!!!!!!
Well, I have to go now and get back to my laundry and cleaning! Serene will be here soon! AHHHH - and I am still in the middle of all my chores around here - ughhh!
I'm back. Or at least I'm trying to be back. The last month of school was a killer for me. That's when I do my testing for the g.t. program at my school. And of course everyone at my school thinks their child's gifted because they live in big houses and drive fancy cars. I tested 59 kids and sent 5 of those on to the middle school TAG program and got 5 more for my program. Each child had to take 5 tests and they are hard. Some cried and some were so clueless they thought they were having fun marking pictures.
And my family needed my attention more with end of year activities. Now that it's summer, I hope to be able to catch up with everyone.
My weight is still fluctuating between 161 and 166. Part of me is really discouraged but I'm not giving up. I need to get out and walk or get on the machines at the Y. I am wearing mediums now and even bought a pair of size 10 pants. That helps. Twelve is probably the size I'm really into. Those were drawstring, but I would rather have a little bit tight pair knowing I'll get into them soon than a pair that will be too big in a month or so.
I hope everyone has a great weekend. I'll be busy tomorrow welcoming the new plebes for USNA from NTX. DS is in San Diego on an amphibious assault ship which heads to Pearl Harbor on the 17th. He's having fun.
Well, the MOTB (Mother of the Bride) is checking in here. The wedding was this morning...reception right after. My feet hurt from the new shoes, but I feel pretty good. Everything went well, we had plenty of food, and the bride looked beautiful, the groom happy. I took a lot of pictures, and will hopefully get them transferred soon. Lots of relatives here still, but I am sneaking a quiet moment while they are out swimming and visiting by the pool.
I must have lost more, cause my skirt felt looser this morning! I am sure I have gained it back, since I ate what I wanted, but I am not worried...it will go away again.
Hi y'all. Well, I just thought I would have more time when school was out but nooooo. The kids have kept me busy, but we're having a good time. Eating has not been great for me the last couple of days, but I was extra good today. Took the kids swimming with some friends yesterday. I did really good keeping the sunscreen on them, so they didn't cook. I didn't do too well on myself. OUCH! Not good for me.
No way I can catch up on replies to everyone...but here goes a few.
FRUIT: Glad you can do at least a little talking. Hope you get over this soon.
JRED: Aren't you glad school is out? It's amazing how many parents think their kids are gifted, isn't it? We run into that at our school too.
MONET: Glad to hear the wedding went well. Congratulations to the MOTB.
Well,I was like my old self this week as far as exercise goes. I got in my 6th day this week doing 4.5 miles each and every day giving me a 27 mile total for the week I've probably sweated buckets this week.
Now, if I can just get back on track as far as limiting my carbs I'll be great. Yes, I went overboard the last 2 nights, everything OP but loads too much of it. It's like my body is just craving something sweet and I'm trying to give myself alternatives and it's just not satisfying that desire for "whatever" so I continue eating til I find that "something" that gives me some satisfaction. By that time, I've eaten waaaay too much stuff. For some reason the last two evenings just did me in, days were not a problem for some reason. TOM is due in a few days and I just suspect this is the cause of it. Today WILL be better, I've got that imbedded in my brain.
Eli is off today and we have to take the kids to see my Grandparents and my Great Aunt before they take off for the summer to NC. Afterwards we're taking them up to Broward for lunch, movie (maybe My Fat Greek Wedding?) and some shopping. I have to find Lauren a dress for the cruise for the Captains Dinner Need I say more?!?
Not many garage sales yesterday, only got a couple items, though I did get a brand new pair of UNISA black leather strappy shoes that are REALLY nice for $3.00! Nothing else to speak of really. Weather stunk.
Other night when we went to Outback I did end up feeling better. Eli was shocked when I didn't order the salmon but the steak instead, a first in many years. Ate the whole sweet potato and just a little meat, wasn't impressed with the meat, isn't much without steak sauce to me and I wouldn't use it after reading the ingredients on the label.
Will try to reply to the posts before I leave...
BOB, the pressure from your head was probably all that built up gas you've got inside! You know the door is always open for you, whenever you need to just get away, just give me a buzz. Won't be going to NC, by the time I get the kids off on the cruise next week that will only give from leaving on Monday to leaving there on Saturday-too long of a drive to only have 4 full days there. I think I'm going to try and find a cheap deal to Vegas-Mom would be happy going there and me, I'd be even happier, there's 3 TJ's there and I know where each and every one of the are!!!! Let's not even mention the International Market!!!! No beach news, that's FROGS dept.
RED1, where'd you go to dinner and what movie did you end up seeing? Hope you enjoyed your time alone together. How was the BBQ?
TONI, I have to say, I am proud of Lauren. Always proud of both kids, but Lauren has always been in Michael's shadow because he's so smart. She is proving she too is smart as well and doesn't have to be in his shadom and can and has created her out limelight. LOL! I don't know anyone with perfect attention either, but perfect attendance, yes, that she does have. Okay, I couldn't resist!!!!
GUMBO, glad to see you were able to get on and post. Hey, I'm computer illiterate as well, so you are in good company! Kudos to you for passing up not only the desserts but the beinets as well. I never had one of those, but my Mom says they're delicious. Anyhow, you see how good you feel when you can say NO to something not OP and have that strong willpower! It's wonderful. Wonderful job on the exercise. A four pound loss this week is something you shoudl be patting yourself on the back for-great job.
MAMA, hope yesterday was a better day for you OP. I don't like the sound of what your BIL is trying to do. You need to put your foot down and stop this now. This is not only YOUR home but YOUR body. For him to put cornstarch into something is not right. ALSO, you have to say no about the DQ, that's up to you-he's not holding a gun to your head, at least not yet. You are in control of what you eat, not him. If he doesn't straighten up threaten him with having to go to a hotel!!! That, or let ME speak to him
Everyone else, I have to put this on hold. Will reply to the rest of you this evening.
Have a wonderful day!!

Gosh the board is slow! HAHA! Now maybe I can keep up! LOL! Well, not much happening here! Just lounging around and writing plenty notes! Even though the doctor said I could talk some, I'm not going to do it. After all, he wasn't the doctor that did my surgery. The one that did my surgery said TOTAL VOICE REST. So, that's what I'm doing! I don't want to overdue it and these things come back!! HAHA!
MUSIC: I love the picture under your name - too cute!! Take care of that sunburn now! OUCH!
TRANQUIL: way to go on another 1/2 pound gone!! Keep up the great work!!
COUNTRY: Hope you got all of your grass done! My hubby hates cutting the little yard we've got. we'd have to buy a herd of goats if we had all that grass! HAHA!
BETH: Girl - you can get back on 100% you go girl - drink that water and you will be losing like crazy! Go BETH, GO BETH!!
NANCE: Yeah - too early to tell how the surgery went. They said my nose would be swollen for some time so I probably won't be able to tell how effective the surgery was for a while. As for the eating, well......I've been eating nothing on plan. Like...pop tarts, enough said! HAHA! I'm sending hubby to the store today and everything will be legal starting tomorrow - being that I blew it already today!! HAHA!
TONI: Good for you getting that walk in on the treadmill! That taco salad sound delicious! I love a good taco salad. Yeah - when you feel crappy it is very easy to stray off plan to foods that are extra yummy. Not to mention I can only open my mouth about 1 inch - you know - wide enough for a pop tart or skinny cookie! HAHA!
ROSALIE: Glad to see you popping in on the board! Believe me,if I could stomach prunes, I'd do it! But, I think I would spit those right back out! HAHA! Your lawn bowling sounds like fun! You sure do like to keep active! Don't be such a stranger!!
BOB: Never heard of THE OTHERS - what is that?
SEF: Did you ever get any rain over there? We had quite the downpour over here yesterday. The thunder you were hearing was probably our thunderstorm - you know - I'm right around the corner!!
JRED: Welcome back! We have that problem too - Does every parent think their child is gifted?!? Good LORD! I'm getting ready to read about about gifted kids in the regular classroom. Next year I supposedly have the "high class" so I want to be able to challenge them as much as possible. I did see my list for next year and I do have a few that are not HIGH AT ALL! Actually - really low - what is that?! Why give me the high class and then turn around and put morons in it! HAHA! That was ugly - I'm sorry!! Oh well, I may be asking you for some pointers so get ready!
MONET: Glad the wedding was a huge success! Now you can relax!!
BIRD UPDATE!!!
Ok - If you remember I was getting a cockatoo from a friend that breeds many different types of birds. Then when the cockatoo laid eggs none of them were fertile. Well, now she has 4 spectacled amazon eggs that are fertile. So, I'm going to get one of those babies after they are born. I think this will be a better bird for me. First of all it won't get depressed because I'm gone the majority of the day like a cockatoo would! They are much quieter and don't squawk as much. AND they have a huge vocabulary - which is what I wanted in the first place! So, I think I'll be much happier with this bird. It is a green parrot with a multi-colord head. Very pretty. She said they should be born by the end of this month. Then she will keep it for 8 weeks to feed it and stuff. Then it is mine! woo hoo!
Ok - keep your fingers crossed for this one! Talk to y'all later
This begins week two for me. I feel wonderful! Things are getting easier. I do no whine about not eating certain foods anymore. I think I am on a roll! (at least for a while).
Where do you find agave in the grocery store? Or do you? I looked everywhere last night. Or do I buy it at a health food store?
Monet: Congratulations on the beautiful wedding! There is nothing worse that feet that hurt. Can't wait until you share the pictures!
jRed: We do not have a gifted program being a private school. But we get or share of the wealthy. We got a chuckle the last day of school...a mom driving one the large SUV's...the "excursion" ran out of gas in the carpool line. We loved it! I can imagine what your final month was like. Cherish each moment of your summer, especially with your kids. Also, have fun with the new plebes...GO NAVY!
Tranquil and Serene: Yes, I agree with everyone else. You two look like sisters! Keep up with the hard work...you inspire the rest of us!
Sef: We were in the storm in New Orleans on Friday. What rain! I could barely get back up St. Charles from all of the standing water.
Rosalie: Lawn Bowling? I would love it! What type of grass do you have to have to make a ball roll properly? Go Girl...for staying so active...you are incredible!
YellowRose: I laughed when you said it was cool in Texas after lunch. I lived in Houston...I do not ever remember it being cool after lunch. But, this morning after walking outdoors it is actually cool here today...maybe we have the cool front that passed through your area.
Toni: Thanks for the encouragement...you are a charm!!!
Nancemeister: I have to ask...cherries in Palm Desert? What type of cherries are grown there. Hope you enjoyed yourself at the festival!
Beth: Go for it...and glad to hear how much you love water! Tell me...I don't mind drinking that amount of water...but does your body ever adjust? How you feel about water is how I feel about going to the bathroom all of the time!!
CountryMom: We are going for an all concrete yard next time...how about you? Actually, we find it relaxing working in the yard. Drink plenty of water!
Fruitloupe: Loved your choice of words...God Bless you that you can keep a sense of humor through all of what you have gone through! Hang in there!
I know that I missed a few of you. Sorry, have to run!
Sef I like the color....don't get me wrong, it's just hard on the eyes reading wise....sometimes the backgrounds look grey and sometimes they look white. Maybe I'll just insert my foot into my mouth and just hush up! I love pink too! It's an eyeball thing, not a color thing. Maybe just another sign that I'm getting older!
BOB When you finish watching the WHOLE movie, then we'll talk!
Gumbo You are not going crazy...no cherries don't grow here in the desert....I drove out of town about 45 minutes away to a higher elevation and picked them there! Have more than we know what to do with, but they sure taste good!
Serene Thanks for the info about the pictures....I'll have to try that sometime soon! There's a Walmart down by my work.
Rosalie I'm daydreaming with a capital "D" right now....I'm all talk and no action about Ferndale. I want to move there, hubby does too, but he wants to wait until he has a little more time under his belt with the current job he holds, so we're looking at 1 1/2 to 2 years before it could actually come to fruition. He did post his resume on Monster.com, probably just to shut me up, because I talk about moving there EVERYDAY. My son wanted to move this summer before starting High School and my daughter doesn't want to move at all. I don't think I can wait 6 more years until she is out of high school. This heat is getting to me! It's about 40 to 50 degrees cooler up there, and it's been 110-116 degrees here which is enough to put me over the edge. It's not even the hottest time of the year yet! UGH!
Had a great day yesterday...went to a u-pick-em farm and came home with about 10-15 pounds of cherries...it's ridiculous. But at least I can share the love with family and co-workers. We had a great time being out in the country. Went out to breakfast at a place up in the mountains and enjoyed the good weather, then later on drove into Redlands and looked at Victorian houses for a little bit before heading home.
OH....MY....GAWD!!!!!!!! If you've not seen THE OTHERS
then GET IT!!!!
Nancy...Tranquil....I wasn't ready for the ending!!! Good movie...the 2nd time around that is...I didn't give the first time a shot...glad I talked with my Nephew before taking it back!
MISSY...You will like this movie, but wait until you can talk...it's not a horror movie, very suspensful...
MONET....Glad the wedding went off without a hitch....BUT WHAT ABOUT THE HAM???
DEB...I knew you would pick VEGA$...especially after reading where your Grandparents are headed I'll be down to take care of ELI while you're gone
everyone...hope all are having a good Sunday...Still doing laundry at my house...I've not done ANY in the three weeks I've been sick...the pile is HUGE!! I'm so tired of being sick!!!!!
Hi all,
The day has started out so well. We went to brunch with some neighbors and that was great to catch up with what is happening with them. I was able to stay on program and still had a fabulous meal. (Well, it probably was a “little” high in calories but everything was legal.) I will be careful for the rest of the day and go for a walk also.
Rosalie: Glad to see your post. I agree with you about Monterey and Carmel. The area is so wonderful! I have also been in a position where the car seemed to be running on fumes. It is scary when you can’t find gasoline. Luckily we now have a vehicle that has a range indicator that is very accurate and we know how far we can go. My husband has been more careful to keep up with the gasoline. He knows how I hate that feeling. I didn’t know prunes were legal….I love prunes….I have been missing out.
Bob: We use to drive through Traveler’s Rest when we would go to Greenville, SC to pick up guests from the airport. It is a pretty drive. We now take a faster route. I think tomorrow’s drive will take us to Waynesville to see about a furniture place. I have asked Deb but maybe you can also give me some good places to eat in Hendersonville.
Tranquil: After my extended walk yesterday (which I enjoyed, by the way) I found myself sleepy at 9 pm. and I had to take some Advil for my knees. I really am out of condition. I will walk again this afternoon, however. It is about 68 degrees at 2:30 pm. so, the weather is conducive to being outside. I can’t imagine having too much energy.
JRed: Hi, I am glad you are going to have more time to devote to yourself and us. I wrote recently that I reexamined my eating and found some major increases. What do you think is causing your fluctuation?
Monet: Congratulations on the wedding coming off so well. With your planning skills it had to be great. I would love to see pictures.
Deb: I am glad to hear that you have gotten back into an exercise routine that you feel is helpful for you. It feels great when one is more in control. Right? You have some really great kids there. No wonder you are so proud of them.
Gumbo: I am in the mountains of North Carolina right now, so, that explains the “it is cool” comment. I am glad that your taste is changing so that the program is getting even easier for you. I use to love potatoes but I haven’t had a white potato since I started this program almost two years ago and now I am fine about it. I have only found agave in a health food store. For awhile, it was difficult to find even there. I bought a bunch of it while I could find it and don’t know what the status is at this point. I understand that some have ordered it online.
Hope you are all having a pleasant weekend. I'm sitting here having a coffee and when I am finished I have to head outside to sweep my driveway and pull a few weeds. I wasn't planning on doing it to-day but the garbage man will be around to pick up garden garbage in the morning so I had better get it done or else it will have to sit in the bag for a couple more weeks.
I was out to a buffet lunch to-day to an Indian restaurant with my ds and his family. I started off with good intentions of staying op. I had a piece of Tandoori chicken, a small serving of both chicken curry and beef curry and some lentils and cabbage salad. It was all very yummy. I even didn't take any rice, but then the waiter brought a big platter of steaming hot flat bread to the table and I just couldn't resist having a piece. So then when I went back for seconds I had a small serving, about a quarter cup, of basmati rice with a small serving of a vegetarian curry with peas, mushrooms and cottage cheese. So for the rest of the day and the rest of the week I plan on staying 100% op. Yesterday I bought some Puffed Kashi cereal for snacking which I think is legal. One whole cup is only 13 grams of carbs and no sugar. It almost felt like I was eating popcorn, except it has more flavor than popcorn.
Sef - That sounds like a nice idea making a sampler for the new homeowners. I don't know where you find the time to do all the things you do.
Tranquil - I never, ever weigh late in the day as I know I will be heavier than the morning. For me it is first thing in the morning or not at all.
Monet - Glad to here the wedding went off well. Hope your tootsies are feeling better to-day. I'm looking foward to seeing some pics.
Deb - WTG witht he walking. Glad to see you are back to your old routine. Hope your blister is better.
Fruitloupe - I would like to see the egg that's wearing spectacles. Sorry couldn't resist that one.
Gumbo - I don't know what type of grass they use for lawn bowling except that it has to be kept very, very short. I've been told that the grass has to be cut two or three times a week.
YellowRose - A serving of 6 prunes (40gms) has a gi of 29 and 25 gms of carbs. I got this info from the Aussie GI Datbase. I like to eat them but have to be careful how many I eat or else I will be racing for the potty. Here's the website if you want to check them out. http://www.calvin.biochem.usyd.edu.au/GIDB/search.htm
Time to get outside to do the chores before I change my mind.
