  • Had wonderful plans but watched some of the follow-up news on the tornadoes. You have to feel sorry for all New Orleanians have gone through. There was a tornado not too long after Katrina, rains causing flooding and now this.
Always amazing me how two houses side by side have the luck of the draw. One unscathed, the other ruined. At least after Katrina they still had the bones of the house, even though rather damp! Tornadoes take the bones and throw them away.

There was one deatg, an 86 y/o woman and several injuries. A firetruck was overturned and a firehouse destroyed. Just have to keep them in our prayers as I sauid before. I'm getting to the age where I repeat myself!

COUNTRY: Thanks for the hug, can always use one. Whatever weather you are having just sweeps right into LA a couple of days later. Right now it's beautiful, sunny, warm and breezy. The window howls around the corner of the house and Bitsy barks whenever the wind blows!

TECH: Fly by ant time! My SIL and family lived in Depew NY, that's near Buffalo and if I remember about 20 mi. from Niagara Falls. They were always snowed in.

Your kitty looks a lot like my dear Bear. He was marmalade and had very long hair. Yours looks pretty fluffy! For some reasons I always liked marmalades. Had one years ago and he had the same infection. The yowls are pitiful. Hope Kitty will be alright, they are such members of the family.

MONET: I love Shepheard's Pie. My GD requests it. Never did the stout thing though. What would we do w/o our freezers. I always try to cook extra to save for those rushed times or when I don't feel up to cooking.

Gee, you play guitar. Good thing you're not here I'd recruit you! Our banjo/guitar/mandolin player passed away so we've been loooking. We had a terrible time finding a piano player. I had found a guitar site that I copied for a friend to play Christmas songs at one of our gatherings. It was before Katrina. We hired a trolley and went through New Orleans. We bought finger foods, song sheets and Karen's guitar. We had a blast. Now so much is damaged by Katrina. For a long time the trolleys weren't running.

TEENSY: Am not as good about my water intake as I should be. There are a lot of pros and cons out there, but most experts seems to agree that we also get our water from tea, coffee and other liquids. I hope so!

Gotta go. See if I can make my good intentions work.
  • Just a quickie. I got up a bit later than usual this morning so only had time for a 20 minute walk before going off to bowling. We're expecting lots of snow here soon, supposed to be starting later this afternoon so I think I will go to the library to get a couple of books just in case I need to hibernate for a couple of days. At least now I'm in a condo I won't have to worry about shovelling the driveway..

Sef - Glad you liked the music site. If I find any more I will post them for you.

Monet - I'm not cooking much to-day. I've got some frozen shrimp which I think I will defrost and fry in a little butter with some salad and veggies. I admire you for all the cooking you do for your church groups. You are always so very busy.

Sorry I don't have time now for anymore replies. Maybe later.

  • Checking in.... I am SO excited! Tom just called the electrician and he will be coming Friday morning to do the electrical work for my kiln. Unfortunately, we leave as soon as he is done for a weekend church retreat! I won't even be able to PLAY with it!

I am hoping SEF's nice weather is headed this way now! I see the clouds have broken up, the rain has stopped and the sun is trying to peek out. Hooray!

I need to try and figure out something for dinner. I may fix one of the instant frozen meals I bought to try. I feel lazy!

    Later!
  • BOB, thanks for checking on me. The tornados hit about 40 miles away from us. Seems to have done a good bit of damage. I slept through it all.
  • Wow its so cold here. I can't seem to get warm after going out for my hair appointment. I'm now with short hair and curly. Yippee. Had oatmeal for breakfast and meatloaf and a baked sweet potato for dinner. So I've done pretty good today. I need to get some chicken breasts out of the freezer for tomorrow. Its so good to see everyone here. It makes it so fun to come to the board. Guess I'll go get warm in the living room. We quit using our wood stove because all we have is green wood and it made us have a flue fire. It scared us so bad we've decided to just burn propane. Its hard to get used to it after having the warmth of the fire.
  • Hello Everyone!
Hi! I am new to this website, forum, and Sugar Busters!!! Newbie all the way around. But not so new to trying to lose this awful weight... I need a support group to help me along the way and you seem like a great group of people from all of the posts I have read, you really seem to support each other if every aspect of your lives and your journey through weight loss. I hope I can try to break into your circle of support, as I hear that support can really help in weight loss. Well, now I guess I'll tell you a little about myself. I will be 36 years old next month, I am married and have a 2 year old son, I live in Houston,Texas. I am a Stay at Home Mom, lots of time to snack and a busy schedule to get stressed out over,as well as a parent to care for that has early onset Alzheimer's. I am tipping the scales at 184 lbs right now, and I am wearing a size 18. I do not feel like I look good when I get dressed to go anywhere, and my poor son has never even been to the neighborhood pool, because I haven't wanted to show my body there. I used to blame it on baby weight, but now that he's two, its kinda hard to blame my figure on baby weight. I am also trying to get pregnant, taking Clomid and regular visits to my ob/gynfor ultrasounds, etc.. I don't want to go thru another pregnancy fat, because its hard to find maternity clothes in size 18. Last time I was 218 lbs before I delivered, this timeI want to be healthy and losing weight before and during the pregnancy, with exercise and eliminating sugar and flour from my diet. This plan really seems likeit would be alot easier to stick with because you can have shrimp, bread, crabs, crwafish, gumbo, whole wheat pasta, cheese, meat, vegetables and fruit! It's pretty diverse, which is why I haven't been able to succeed with any diets so far. I ahve tried Weight Watchers, South Beach, Atkins, Ultralite, and a few others, but they were so hard to stick with. I think this plan clearly has alternatives for things like pasta that I sometimes crave. Please send me a note if you have a chance, I ordered my books today (Sugar Busters, SB for Kids, SB shopping guide, Sugar Bust with the Brennans I & II...) They should be in in about a week, I hope. I have read alot all day on this and a few other sites, and I thhink this is the plan for me. I look forward to chatting with you gals over the next few months, and seeing what tips and hints you might have. Oh also,I forgot, I have not exercised in forever, I am pretty much a couch/bed/car potato. So if anyone has any suggestions for getting motivated, please letme know.I saw that one of you bowls,That sounds fun, is it considered cardio? There is a bowling alley near my home, maybe I could try it out, lemme know if you have any suggestions for that,I think I have only played once in my life! I look forward to meeting you all! Have a great night!

  • M2A: We are glad to have you join us! And yes, this is a wonderful group! I have been on here for a few years, as have a number of us, and we love newbies! You just ask any questions you like....and remember the only dumb question is one you don't ask! We have some big losers on here...a couple who have lost over 100 pounds. There are a few of us who struggle with other health problems, like diabetes, metabolic syndrome, menopause even - Sounds like you have your hands full with a two year old and caring for a parent. We have another member in Texas... CountryMom. Remember any bread you use has to be 100% stone ground whole wheat. If you use any flour, it has to be stone ground whole wheat. Avoid high glycemic stuff...white potatoes, white rice, bananas, pineapple, corn and beets. I hope you find all the support you need to reach your goals here.

  • HERE'S ONE TO GET YOUR DAY GOING!!!

    A Very Moving Story

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After a night of drinking, Ross crept into bed beside his wife who
    Was already asleep.
He gave her a peck on the cheek and fell asleep.
When he awoke, he found a strange man standing at the end of his
Bed Wearing a long flowing white robe.
"Who the **** are you?" demanded Ross, "and what are you doing in
    My bedroom?"
The mysterious Man answered, "This isn't your bedroom, Ross, and
    I'm St. Peter".

Ross was stunned "You mean I'm dead!!! That can't be, I have so
    >>much to live for, I haven't said goodbye to my family. You've got
To send me back straight away".
St Peter replied, "Yes, you can be reincarnated but there is a
    Catch.
We Can only send you back as a dog or a hen."
Ross was devastated, but knowing there was a farm not far from his
House, he asked to be sent back as a hen.
A flash of light later, he was covered in feathers and clucking
    >>around pecking the ground. "This ain't so bad," he thought until he
    >>felt this strange feeling welling up inside him.
    >>
    >>The farmyard rooster strolled over and said, "So you're the new
    >>hen, how are you enjoying your first day here?"
    >>
    >>"It's not so bad," replies Ross, "but I have this strange feeling
    >>inside like I'm about to explode".
    >>
    >>"You're ovulating," explained the rooster, "don't tell me you've
    >>never laid an egg before."
    >>
    >>"Never," replies Ross.
    >>
    >>"Well just relax and let it happen."
    >>
    >>And so he did and after a few uncomfortable seconds later, an egg
    >>pops out from under his tail.
    >>
    >>An immense feeling of relief swept over him and his emotions got
    >>the better of him as he experienced motherhood for the first time.
    >>
    >>When he laid his second egg, the feeling of happiness was
    >>overwhelming and he knew that being reincarnated as a hen was the
    >>best thing that had happened to him ever!!!
    >>
    >>The joy kept coming and as he was just about to lay his third egg
    >>he felt an enormous smack on the back of his head and heard his
    >>wife shouting,
    >>
    >>"Ross, wake up you drunken b*st*rd, you're shi**ing the bed!!"
    >>

  • HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY TO ALL MY SB FRIENDS.

Hope everyone enjoys the day, and remember, no candy

I forgot to share with you all my good news. It has been such a crazy week, I forgot. I lost another 3 pounds this week. I am now officially down into a new set of numbers. Didn't think I would ever see it. The only thing, on WW, you also lose a point. I hardly have enough points to eat my meals now. I think I will wait a week or se to drop it. The week is getting better which is a good thing.

Sef, We get lots of tornadoes in April and May. They seem to be getting worse. You don't usually hear about them this time of year do you? I feel so bad for the people in NO. They have been through so much.

Country, Good job on your walking. I think it is great you will be doing the big walk. Is that the one your step daughter was going to do with you? I beleive decaf tea counts as water. I love the green tea you mix in your water bottles.

Tech, I think you had better find a better place for your bills. That could be dangerous. Did you get some snow? Hope your kitty is ok.

Monet, what a great way to walk, taking the baby. Hope Tom's meeting was helpful.

Rosalie, did you get snow too? Your lucky you don't have to shovel the driveway. Stay warm.

Melf, wow, 40 miles is not that far. Glad you are safe.

Toni, did yo all get snow? We are getting flurries now, but I don't think we are expecting any snow. We have a real fireplace too and a chimney fire scares me. We need to get one of those logs you can get to get rid of the creosole. Try to stay warm.

M2A, Welcome. This is a great group. I have been here 4 years and lost 105 lbs with this WOE. It is very sensible and easy to do. I am now doing weight watchers as I needed a change after so long and my DD needs to lose so I am going with her. But I incorporate the SB ideas with it. You could try some home videos. Leslie sansome has a good Walk off the Pounds. There is a 1, 2, & 3 mile. Heartmom does them all the time, she can tell you more about them. The vest thing is to come here daily for support and when yo start, don't cheat. Plan ahead and always be prepared. Looking forward to getting to know you.

Bob, glad and you Kate are feeling better. Time is what it takes. The game was not as good as the score reflects. We were down by 10 at half and as much as 16 several times. Not until the end did the turn it on. Sorta like the Florida game. Lofton is so good. Ky should be kicked for letting him get away.

Better get some work done. Have a "lovely" day.
  • Solly, tornados are FAR from being common in SW LA but we've had several here since the holidays, 3 or 4 for sure. There were 2 that hit Acadiana night before last. 1 was an EF1 but the 2nd was an EF2, same as the one that hit the N.O. area. This one damaged or totaled 71 homes. Thank God no lives were taken but here also people are still living in FEMA trailers trying to recover from RITA & have lost homes they were trying to rebuild.
  • [COLOR="Dark Orchid"]Happy Valentine'sDay everyone.

I am turning southern. It's cold this morning. It's only about 40' and I feel cold. Where has my mountain blood gone?

I think chicken stew would be warming for supper. May be with some dumplings on top. One dumpling, skip the potatoes for me.

MONET: If my nice weather goes your way get out your long johns!

You mentioned those instant frozen meals, try Contessa Stir Fry it is really good. Bertolli also has a shrimp Italian dish that is good.

MELF: I was awakened by a very loud clap of thunder about 3 a.m. and it was pouring, later found out it was the time the tornado hit. I don't know if it was a coincidence or if it was a result of the storm.

TONI: Thank goodness your flue fire wasn't worse.

You're right it is good to see more people here. When I first returned it seemed like the board had lost a lot of contributors, but now it is getting hot again.

M2A: Welcome. You have come to the right place. People are friendly, caring and very helpful sharing their hints. You can ask any question and someone will have an answer.

It is very hard when we worry about our parents. We trade places you see. I live with my DS and family. Fortunately I am still as active as I can be, but I know they feel responsible for me. Every time I go to hospital DS takes off from work. They are always concerned about my comfort...."Are you warm/cool enough?", "I'm going to store, do you need anythin?" I haven't washed my car since I moved in with them! It's hard I know, but believe me you will get your reward in heaven.

BOB: Glad you and Kate are beginning to stir around.

You mentioned bread....I'm finding that bread can be a trigger for me. It starts me craving food, I just feel hungry. And you know my willpower is zilch! Do better sticks to those proteins, veggies and fruit.

Thanks for checking on the LA contingent.

    Loved the joke!!

SOLLY: You are a inspiration to all of us.Another senior momnent. Can't remember where you are. To have "lots" of tornadoes sounds like tonado alley!

    That's it for now.

    May good things happen![COLOR]
  • Good afternoon and Happy Valentines Day to all my SB buddies. .

We had quit a bit of snow during the night but the sun is shining now although it is still very cold and windy. The temp is about -11C which is about 5F. With the windchill it feels more like -17C. I was up and out early this morning and went for my walk at the mall. Walked for about 40 minutes.

Sef - Chicken stew sounds good for this cold weather. I was planning on cooking a chicken in my crockpot but was invited out just before I turned on the pot. So will cook that tomorrow instead.

M2A - Welcome to the clan. You will find lots of support here. If you have any questions just ask. Someone is sure to have an answer for you. It's good that you are reading the books. That will give you a good understanding of this woe. One of the main things to remember is to cut out the white stuff, like white bread, white rice (unless it is Basmati or parboiled). Pasta is allowed, preferably whole wheat. The important thing is to not overcook it. The less cooking, the lower the gi.

Solly - WTG on your loss this week. Yes we did have some snow but luckily the snow ploughs were out early so the roads aren't too bad. We were luckier than some areas who had it a lot worse than us.

BOB - Glad to see that you and Kate are on the mend.

All for now. Have to go and check out the brown rice pudding I have cooking in the crockpot and have to get ready to go out soon.

  • Hey everyone! Just a fly by! I am working today. I have a teapot I need to trim, and finish. I have to attach the spout and handle. I haven't made a teapot in years...it was fun! It is a nice big one and if it turns out ok, it is going to be MINE. I love tea, and hate that my teapot never seems large enough. This one is a good size. So, it is going to be mine, unless someone offers me big bucks for it. I need to get it through the fire first!

I hope everyone has a great Valentine's day. Mine has been nice, quiet, but pleasant. We can't afford to go out, or purchase presents, but we have been able to just spend some time together drinking espresso and relaxing.

I will check in later...off to finish the teapot, and do some more stuff!
