SEF: You should see the beads I have right now! I've got 15 sacks packed to throw this year - which won't happen - and I've got at least 21 crawfish sacks NOT packed that are stored under the stairs. I don't know where I'll store this year's catches! I guess I'll have to bring them upstairs! I think what I will try to do is pack the ones I catch this year so that they are ready for next year. We'll see if that happens!
I have to clean today, I've been hurting enough I keep putting it off, but now it's liable to grow things so better get busy! Then will shower and do something, don't know what. Should get that darn afghan finished.
Tom and I finished the rearranging in the garage today. The freezer is in the new place, and the kiln is where the freezer used to be. Now all I need is to get the electrician out to run the line to the kiln. I finished up the vase I threw yesterday. I lost two out of 12 bowls to cracked bottoms. I was not surprised due to the fact I threw them 'off the hump', which can make the bottom too wet. If the top and bottom are uneven wetness, it can crack. I would much rather have a crack before it is bisque fired! Then you can reuse the clay!
My next job is to clean out the corner I plan to make into my studio. Tom has a bunch of plumbing tools and supplies on my table and workbench, so I need to move them. I will add some shelves and I will be good to go.
Dinner tonight was good. I fixed frozen light ravioli, and turkey Italian sausage, and salad. I used a jar of spaghetti sauce, and some pecorino romano cheese on the ravioli. Sure was good...and easy! The frozen ravioli was made with durum semolina, so I think it was legal. I will check my blood sugar in a bit and see if it is above normal or not.
I hope everyone is doing ok. Its awfully quiet in here....
Just finished dinner and thought I would check in. It sure is quiet to-day. I got up early this morning and went for my mall walk. I met a friend there so had a walking partner and managed to do five laps in 50 minutes. That's one more than usual. This afternoon I played a few games of badminton. First time since Monday - wasn't able to play when the kids were here. I do miss them though - the apartment was very quiet last night without them. When I got home I finished vacuuming - I started yesterday but didn't have time or energy to finish it.
For dinner tonight I had ham (from a can) and a salad with pickles and beets. For dessert I made rice pudding with basmati rice flavoured with cardamom. Lunch was the same as yesterday - lentil/rice pancakes with lentil/veggie mix.
Have to go and finish cleaning up the mess in the kitchen. Hope eveyone is having a good weekend.
I managed to finish vacuuming, dusting and cleaning the bathroom. Then I was pooped.
Played on the computer for a while. Just finished a movie "Ladies In Lavender" with Judi Dench and Maggie Smith, they are both so good.
That's the extent of my day.
MONET: Nothing like having your own space. I used to tell the kids that whoever left home first, I was taking over their bedroom for my craft room. Kevin left first,,,,,,I figured getting married cut all ties to his room! His room was the smallest but had a built in extra long twin bed with two huge draers underneath. The end wall had shelving with cabinets underneath, plus the closet. I was in hog heaven. We took a piece of inexpensive paneling cut to fit the bed and I had this huge work table. Plus my sewing desk, Really neat. So know how you feel.
ROSALIE: Your dinner sounded good to me, I love beets, but thought they weren't legal. When we go to a buffet that has beets I always get a helping.
Oh, I like beets too! But they are NOT legal! Too much sugar in them! I don't eat at salad bars often, but if I do, I always snitch a few beets!
ROSALIE: I love the sound of your meals...all the yummy lentils and stuff. You must be an awesome cook! Wow...you are doing great with the walking at the mall!
SEF: Oh, a room all for my stuff would be heaven! We do have one room that has been vacated...but Tom is using it for his office. The other two kids are still here...one is married, so that made it MORE crowded! And has the baby...which is fine with me! haha! My son just started a new job where he travels all the time. It is like he doesn't live here, it is so quiet without him! But, all his 'stuff' is still here. As long as he has this job, there is little reason for him to get his own place. He is gone at least five out of seven days.
Monet and Sef - I know beets are not considered legal but they do have a medium gi of 64 and the gi load for an 80 grm serving is only 4.3. A GI Load of anything less than 10 is considered low so I don't think a small serving will interfere with weight loss. JMHO.
I checked out the above at www.glycemicindex.com. You can find the gi for lots of foods also the gi load. They used to have a page which explains the gi load but I couldn't find it to-day. They also have a newsletter which has some interesting stuff. Here is the website if anyone is interested in looking at it. http://ginews.blogspot.com/
I planned on writing more but I have been goofing around surfing the net too long so now have to go jump in the shower and fix my hair as I have to go out about noon.
One more thing, I found a recipe on the gi site for waffles made with white beans, oats and flaxseed which looks interesting. May try it soon.
I know that I have been gone a long time, but our dear sweet Monet has returned me to the fold. It has been so long that I don't know where to begin. I am still working out at Curves. I have been going 5 days a week since it has been to cold and icy to walk. But that is about all I have been doing for the last month. I am still trying to stick with my WOE but it seems to be getting harder and harder. I do great for a week or two and then it seems like I eat nothing but sugar for a full day. Don't know what is wrong with me. I have a doctor appointment in a week or so, and I have oh so many questions for her. It seems like my whole body is changing. And not for the better!! (Menopause!! and a very bad case of it!!)
The boys and Ted are all fine. We did have a big scare the middle of January. Bills ship caught on fire out in the middle of the Bering Sea. The engine caught fire and they were adrift for 24 hours. The Coast Guard sent out a Cutter and pulled them into Dutch Harbor. The crew were all sent home until the repair work was done. (All but Bill, he and Richard stayed in Portland to hire more employees to go up when the repairs were complete.) Very scary to think what could have happened.
Ted and I spent the week before Christmas in Colorado, and were part of the unfortunate ones to get stuck in Denver. Our flight was canceled of course, and we couldn't find a car to rent. Either they had no cars, or would not rent for a one way trip. We finally ended up on a bus that took us a full three days to get home. The good part was that we made it home on Christmas Eve (3 AM) and was able to spend Christmas with my boys. I was a real mess for about 4 days because I have never been away from my kids at Christmas. All I could do is cry, and cry and cry!! But we made it. My oldest was ready to drive down and get us, and I would have called on him to do it if we hadn't been able to get on the bus. (It was running so late.....first because of the bad roads, and then because the bus driver hit a parked car, that we didn't know when or if we could get out.) Then because we were so late we missed both connecting buses leaving Billings Mt. So we were stuck there for 9 1/2 hours waiting for the next one..........I have had my fill of bus trips, and this was my very first one!!
We have a new little girl, named Pebbles. After losing our little Jo in January I wasn't sure that I wanted anymore dogs. I still had my Buddy of course, and we were doing just fine. In August I told my Mom I was thinking of calling the Basset rescue to see if they had any dogs that needed a good home. The very next day a couple showed up at the door asking if we had lost one of our dogs. The neighbors had told them (they were going door to door) that we had Bassethounds. They had a little female Basset show up at their house three weeks prior. They commuted from here to Everet for his job and their granddaughter was taking care of her for now, but was starting college soon and wouldn't be able to care for her. The humane society would only keep her for three days, and then if no one claimed her they would put her down. These people had put up flyer all over our area, listed her on 2 web site for lost and found animals and checked with both the humane society and Spokanimal. No one was looking for this dog. I told them that she wasn't our dog but I woud sure take her if no one claimed her. I could not stand the thought of having her put down just because she was lost, or because some one dumped her. So a few days later, Leighann brought her over and we have been loving this little girl since September!!
I hope to get back in the mode of posting each day, as I also want to get back to using fitday and journaling my foods. So I will will talk to you all tomorrow. Thanks for always being here!!
Hello all, sorry I did not get to the board yesterday. Spending quality time with DH this week end. I did scan the board & glad to see everyone seems to be doing ok.
Tech, thanks for posting that site...boy that's some snow! I did to call mu DB who lives in Gardiner, NY ..not sure if he got some of that or not. Is that anywhere near you?
TeansyBean, good to see you back!
BOB so sorry to hear you & Kate are both sick. Making chicken soup??
Monet, my GS was very excited with the computer. Went to set it up for him Friday after school. I know you must be anxious to get your shop up & running. That's exciting.
Just letting you guys know I'm still alive! I've not been doing well with the eating or the exercising. I don't know If I've just got the winter blues or what.
I'm taking a day tomorrow to go around to some of the larger schools in our area and talk with some of the nurses and get some ideas, tips and shortcuts for running a larger clinic. According to an article in the paper, it looks like we will have around 940 or so at the new school next year. Which is a big change, but I'm really getting excited after seeing some of these nice newer clinics. They are usually right off the office and include their own bathroom! Quite a difference from the old school I'm in now. We'll I'm off for now. Take care!
Hey everyone! I just got in from church. James got in this morning from Miami...he loved it down there. Thought the Latin women there were exceptionally good looking!
It is great to see Teensy back...now if Gator, Talitha, Kengjw, Pancho and Sillyfluff would all come back...Come on you all! If you are lurking, at least say hello!
Good Morning everyone! WOW, the place is empty this am! Had to go back to make sure there wasn't a new board started else where. lol
Scales has been up a few lbs over the past 3 days but I'm determined to keep at it. Sooner or later it will happen. Not much to report. Sun is shining but it's in the 40's. Don't have much planned today. Don't feel like doing much either. Have our ladie's group meeting tonight at church so I'll try to watch what I eat today. Probably salad & I sure need to drink more water.
Hey everyone! I am cooking dinner for the church leadership meeting tonight, so I am busy busy busy! Just got in from Costco. I need to bake a couple pans of brownies for dessert, then head over to the church to cook in the kitchen there.
Today is MMM...and I did get on the scale. I am sorry to report it was up four pounds since last week. Not sure why... I had a few hypoglycemic episodes that I over compensated for, and I think I am retaining water. I am trying to drink more water, and watching more carefully what I eat and WHEN I eat....it is a balancing game that I am not very good at. Some days, I am just so tired of having to be diligent about blood sugar levels and meds and meals and which foods, etc. etc. etc., I want to scream!
I may get a chance to check in tonight when I get home. If not, I will be here in the morning! Love to you all!
It was Sister Margaret Katherine's first day at the Convent.
The Reverend Mother said, "Sister, this is a silent convent. You are welcome here as long as you like, but you may not speak until I direct you to do so."
Sister Margaret Katherine lived in the convent for 5 years before the
Reverend Mother said to her, "Sister Margaret Katherine, you have been here for 5 years. You can speak two words."
Sister Margaret Katherine said, "Hard bed."
"I'm sorry to hear that," the Reverend Mother said, "Pray and we will try to get you a better bed."
After another 5 years, Sister Margaret Katherine was called by the Reverend Mother. "You may say another two words, Sister Margaret Katherine."
"Cold food," said Sister Margaret Katherine, and she was assured that the food would be better in the future if she would pray for it to be so.
On her 15th anniversary at the convent, the Reverend Mother again called Sister Margaret Katherine into her office. "You may say two words today."
"I quit," said Sister Margaret Katherine.
"It's probably best," said the Reverend Mother, "You've done nothing but b***h since you got here."
