Here I am again. Was talking to Melf and she encouraged me to come back. Last week I had cataract surgery, no big deal except I had been putting it off because when I had the right eye done about 6 or 7 yrs. ago it was a failure and I had problems.

Now things were so bad I couldn't drive at night and was becoming afraid of the day driving. I hadn't read a newspaper, done a crossword puzzle or stitched in months. So I had the surgery (with a different doctor) and the results have been amazing.

I bore you with all this to explain things. I realize now that I have been very depressed about things.......not being able to stitch especially, the oldtimers here know my love of counted cross stitch! I just feel like a weight has been lifted.

The doctor had cleared up one thing in my right eye. He said there was fluid (not bleeding) leaking behind the eye and probably was there from day one of that surgery. He lasered it and gave me medication and it cleared up some. Now he said that since the left eye is doing so well, he will be able to do more with the right eye! I'm walking on air!

Also my son has been doing the grocery shopping since I was sick a while back. He hasn't said anything but he has been buying SF items for me, SGWW bread, etc. I've come to the conclusion that he must think I'm worth something.

So all this being said I feel I am ready to try again. I had lost 70# here and have gained back about 35.........not a good thing. I am back and look again to all the support I felt here the first time around.

By the way, I actually read a newspaper article without mu glasses at the nursing home Monday. Without glasses I can't see anything out ot the right eye, so it means that the left eye is doing terrific. Now I'll have to try to stitch!

Yes I still go to the one nursing home twice a week and entertain at five local homes throughout the month. Also the Young At Heart group from church. I gave up choir because I couldn't read the sheet music. The last few months I have been pushing myuself to do these things. Now it's fun again.

I did look at the last page of last weeks support board........

BOB : So sorry to read you are among the unemployed. Hope you find a new direction in your life.

Fruitloop : Hooray!!!!! So glad to read your news.

A special thanks to Melf for encouraging to be brave enough to come back.

Solly 02-02-2007 08:17 AM

Happy Friday,

I slept so good last night. Didn't even get up to go to the bathroom. That is very unusual. No big plans for the weekend. WW in the morning with DD (she lost 4 lbs last week) and get my nails done. Sunday we are going to a super bowl party. Go Colts!!!!!

Bob, I agree with Monet, it takes a few days to get over the shock. Glad you are ready to start looking. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Monet, sending prayers and luck for Tom today for his meeting with the consultant. You will have to post some pics of the frogs.

Missy, 12 weeks is great. Sorry you and Alexis have colds. Salt water gargle is good. Take care and feel better.

Melf, I'm frustrated with the scale too. You would think 4 nights of the gym and eating right would bring some results, but the stupid scale is not moving. I guess just keep doing good and results will show sometime. It sure is discouraging though.

Sef, how nice to see you back. I'm glad your eyesight is improving. My BF has cateract surgey on both eyes 6 months ago and they still are not right. Lucikly your second dr was better. Glad you are getting back into the things you love. You sound so motivated. Welcome back.

Got to run, have a great day and a weekend.

Solly 02-02-2007 08:25 AM

Anyone researched the You on a Diet by Dr Oz. It sounds a lot like SB. He has been on Oprah and 20/20. Monet I know you keep up with this stuff.

techwife 02-02-2007 08:57 AM

Hi Everybody! I've been a bit busy lately. My dad had a stint put in in Sarasota, so that's been on my mind. I know it's routine and not the major surgery it used to be, but I still worry. Then I was at my knitting group at the library and the nurse called that Kyle had a bad earache. He's had water in his ears since about his birthday and the doctor has had me giving him Nasonex and Claritin to clear it up, but now he's got an infection in the left ear...BUT, the doctor said the water in the right ear has gone down some, so hopefully the medication is helping and he won't have to have tubes put in. That would be awful...not only do I not want him to have surgery, but it would put a serious crimp in our style come summertime...we swim at the beach and off the boat a LOT! Anyhow...when I picked him up at 2, he had no temperature in the nurse's office, but I brought him home for a full dose of Motrin for the ear pain. By the time I got him to the doctor at 3:30...after he'd had the Motrin...his temp was up to 103! That always freaks me out. Anyhow...while waiting for the doctor, I took a wet washcloth and cooled him off on his palms and his forehead and by the time we left, his temp was down to 102, but still...anyhow, he's home with me today. No problem for me...I look forward to sitting on the couch and watching Cars two or three times with him.

Anyhow...

Monet: Glad you were productive with your time in the mountains!! How is Tom's job prospects looking?

Bob: :grouphug: Oh, my Gosh...I can't imagine what a blow that was to lose your job like that. Really, really crappy...

Solly: GO COLTS!!!! I'll be wearing my jersey all weekend, except for at work!!

Sef: Nice to see you back!!

Well, I just called my boss to call in sick with Kyle being home, and she wasn't really pleased. I said I was really sorry, but there was nobody home to watch Kyle for me and I can't take him anywhere with 103 tempurature. So....

I have to go get a few things done...I'll try and do more replies later on...

Rosalie 02-02-2007 09:23 AM

Good Morning All

I was up early this morning and did my mall walk. Have to leave soon to go bowling. The scale hasn't changed - just up one day and down the next.

Melf - I know what you mean about the scale. It sometimes goes down after a bad eating day and up after a good one. :(.

Fruitloupe - Sorry to hear that you and Alexis are both sick. Hope you are both feeling better soon. That's great that you are discharged from the specialist.

Solly - I would love to have a night when I don't have to get up. I'm usually up two or three times.

Sef - It's so good to see you posting again. Now your eyes are improving I hope that you will be able to get back to your sewing.

Sorry I have no more time for replies. Will be back later.

Have a good day everyone.

Melf 02-02-2007 10:14 AM

Good Morning all! It's a grey, dreary day here but at least it's not raining!

Scale's still up but I'm giving today the best try that I can.

SEF, soooo glad to see you posting & hope that we can again be an encouragment to each other even though it's harder now than a few years ago...we can do the best we can is all! Happy that you are able to do some of your favorite things again like the needlepoint. You do such wonderful work. I always admire my piece that you gave me as a gift on our first meeting together. I think your DS buying the bread is a good example of the fact that he is thinking about you & wants you to be healthy & happy.

Solly, enjoy your Super Bowl weekend plans! Sounds like your DD is doing well with WW. I have the books, etc but when I started WW it seemed to give me permission to add sweets into my eating plan & I sure did run into trouble with that!

Tech, sorry to hear Kyle is sick with ear problems. My 3 of my GS has had the tubes inserted twice to get the problems corrected, but I understand why you hesitate with all the swimming. Hope your Dad does ok with his stent placement. We worry about our parents not matter how small the problem as they get older. I know I do about my DM. I knit also!! I've been doing allot of eyelash & fun fur stuff since before Christmas. Found some really GREAT buys at Big Lots!

Rosalie, you're so inspiring with your activity level & exercise! I think I would be losing better if I could get into the exercises again & walking. Maybe when this hip & back straighten out a bit I coun get back into a routine.

Monet, sounds like Tom is preparing himself mentally for the job hunt. That's great. Hope something comes up soon. My oldest GS went offshore for the first time last night. He called me about 11:30 to tell me bye & he sounded excited. He was flying out on a chopper & was happy about that since he doesn't take the water too well so I'm praying that he'll be able to handle being off shore. lol

Missy, 12 weeks along! Wonderful! Hope all continues going well. Sorry you are both sick. TCL for both of you will help! {{{HUGS}}}

techwife 02-02-2007 10:19 AM

Just a quickie!! Bob, Gator and our other Florida buds, check in and let us know you're okay!!

heartmom 02-02-2007 11:23 AM

Hey, everybody. How are the Floridians?
Yesterday I felt so icky, completely stuffed up from this head cold. Today is a little better but now my sinuses are constantly draining in my throat, yuck. On the bright side I am back to my ticker weight. I have to work tomorrow and run errands afterwards and the house is a total wreck so I'll be cleaning the majority of the day on Sunday which will leave no time for binge-eating this weekend and messing up(Yay!). Alright, it's getting busy in here again..

pika81 02-02-2007 11:53 AM

An intro from a newbie:

I'm 25, a shortie at 5 ft tall. I live in Texas with my adorable mini-schnauzers Paxil & Porter. I have been on the whole "change of lifestyle" journey since 2004, I've managed to go from 192 to 148. In October I received a great job offer and moved over half-way across the state. This resulted in a gain of 12 pounds putting me at 160.

I am diagnosed OCD w/panic attacks, though I had been disorder free for over 4 years. With the move(on my own) and a recent death in my family, some issues popped back up. My doctor recommended cutting caffeine and sugar out of my diet because that does help a lot of people with the disorder. So, here I am. I've pretty much gotten the caffiene out(about a week, now) and am working on getting the sugar out.

Nice to meet y'all.

Ellen 02-02-2007 12:28 PM

:welcome3: Hi, Pika! Welcome! I hope you find all the support and encouragement you need to reach your goals here!

SEF: Welcome back, dear friend! I am so happy the eyes are improving and you are able to stitch again! We have missed you!

TECH: I hope Kyle's ears are better- without tubes. But if they DO need the tubes, you CAN swim, you just need to put ear plugs in.

MELF: Oh! Offshore sounds exciting for a young man! What an adventure. My son is loving his job, traveling 100% of the time. It is good for them to experience these kinds of things when they are young and responsibility free! :) How often will your GS be able to come home to visit?

ROSALIE: Yay! You are doing GREAT on the walking! Don't let the scale ruin your mood...in fact, hide it and only weigh once a month. (if I could only follow my own advice there...)

SOLLY: Thanks for your prayers for Tom. He SAYS he is not worried, but I think he IS a bit anxious. I am trying not to be. He has always been really good about finding a job in the past...usually before his severance runs out. He has good marketable skills, it will just be finding a good position that he can enjoy. I think it is VERY important for him to like his job... At least James is working! haha! And if worst comes to worst, I can go work decorating cakes again. (ARGHH!)

HEART: Try this for that nasal crap...mix 1/2 teaspoon of salt in 1 cup warm water, and suck it up your nose, then blow it out. It may run down the back of your throat, but that is ok. You won't drown or anything from it! :) The ENT doctor told Tom to do this four times a day. Since he started doing it six or more years ago, he has had exactly three colds! It really helps! When I had mono it was the only way I could breathe well enough to get any sleep! The salt water helps clear the sinuses, and kills any bacteria. It clears out the nasal passages, and allows you to breathe. The doctor himself does it four times a day. We call it snorting. :)

Ok, I need to go work on the wedding cake. :grouphug: I agree with the others, Floridians, PLEASE check in! BOB, GATOR????

THE BIG ORANGE BABE 02-02-2007 01:04 PM

I'm HERE....Everything was above TAMPA and OVER....the destruction and souls lost and missing is tremendous..
It's raining very hard here and the storms started over this way and moved quite rapidly.

TECH...don't you mean SARATOGA and not SARASOTA???

I'll be back with updates

BOB

techwife 02-02-2007 01:09 PM

Bob: Nope, I mean Sarasota..as in where YOU are. My dad is in Sarasota Memorial Hospital and my mom is staying across the street at the Best Western. My poor mom is so nervous. He's fine, but my mom worries about everything. I'm glad you're okay and that the storms passed through Sarasota without too much messing around. Those poor people in the Orlando and Central part of Florida really had a rough night!!

sef 02-02-2007 01:51 PM

Hi Everyone,

Still running around in my robe and gown. I've come a long way baby. In my younger days I got up and got dressed, no dawdling around.

Bit of a headache this morning, I lifted something I shouldn't have and that didn't help, plus now I ache more. Too soon old, too late schmart!

SOLLY: Thank you. I would tell your BF to get a second opinion. I wish I had never accepted that the first doctor knew what he was doing. I went through a lot with him. I stopped going to hime and was going to an optometrist for glasses and he suggested this specialist. He is so good. I can't wait to see what he will do for the first eye.

TECH: I hope Kyle feels better. We do worry about our parents (I did) and then we have our children to worry about. I know my DS and DDIL worry about me. My DD I'm not all that sure about.........think she figures I'm Kevin's problem.

ROSALIE: Thanks for welcome. My get up and go got up and left without me. The neuropathy and arthritis makes walking difficult. I do try when I have a good day. Use a cane now. Do isomatrics and other things that I can do on the bed or chair. I have a project picked out to start cross stitching as soon as I finish the afghan. I couldn't bear to sit and do nothing so I started crocheting....that doesn't need perfect eyesight, can do it by feel.

MELF: Maybe DS is giving me a gentle hint. He wouldn't want to hurt his old Mom's feelings by saying outright that I'm, fat. Hope that shot for the bursitis will help. Say hello to your DH for me.

HEART: Hope you will feel better soon. Know you're busy, but take a little time for yourself.

pika8:: Things can be overwhelming when you make changes in your lifestyle. Moving is a big deal. After living almost 40 years in one place I moved three times in four years. Yeah I was stressed, I was on my own too. I think you will find the people here are great and SB is a good way to go with our food.

MONET: Thank you. Sorry to read about Tom's job or lack thereof. You're right about liking your job. If you don't it becomes drudergy. I just adored my job, like anything there were problems but I think they are easier to solve when you have a good outlook. I think you do a great job with the board.

BOB: Glad you are safe. I appreciate all the jokes and notes you send me.

Well, Bitsy is telling me she wants to go out. So better listen, don't want a puddle pn the floor!

sef 02-02-2007 01:56 PM

I see you still have FF, here's my contribution hope it doesn't offend anyone!

The Eleventh Husband
A young man married a beautiful woman who had previously divorced ten husbands. On their wedding night, she told her new husband, "Please be gentle; I'm still a virgin."

"What?" said the puzzled groom. "How can that be if you've been married ten times?"

"Well, husband ..1 was a Sales Representative; he kept telling me how great it was going to be."

"Husband ..2 was in Software Services; he was never really sure how it was supposed to function, but he said he'd look into it and get back to me."

"Husband ..3 was from Field Services; he said everything checked out diagnostically but he just couldn't get the system up."

"Husband ..4 was in Telemarketing; even though he knew he had the order, he didn't know when he would be able to deliver."

"Husband ..5 was an Engineer, he understood the basic process but wanted three years to research, implement, and design a new state-of-the-art method."

"Husband ..6 was from Administration; he thought he knew how, but he wasn't sure whether it was his job or not."

"Husband ..7 was in Marketing; although he had a product, he was never sure how to position it."

"Husband ..8 was a psychiatrist; all he ever did was talk about it."

"Husband ..9 was a gynecologist; all he did was look."

"Husband ..10 was a stamp collector; all he ever did was............ God, I miss him!".........

"But now that I've married you, I'm so excited!"
"Wonderful," said the husband, "but, why?"
"You're with the Government........This time I KNOW I'm gonna get screwed."

Hope this one doesn't offend either.........I'm a little bit naughty and a little bit good. mostlt naughty I think!

DADDY'S EMPTY CHAIR

A man's daughter had asked the local minister to come and pray with her father. When the minister arrived, he found the man lying in bed with his head propped up on two pillows. An empty chair sat beside his bed The minister assumed that the old fellow had been informed of his visit. "I guess you were expecting me, he said.
'No, who are you?" said the father.
The minister told him his name and then remarked, "I saw the empty chair and I figured you knew I was going to show up,"
"Oh yeah, the chair," said the bedridden man. "Would you mind closing the door?"
Puzzled, the minister shut the door.
"I have never told anyone this, not even my daughter," said the man. "But all of my life I have never known how to pray
At church I used to hear the pastor talk about prayer, but it went right over my head." I abandoned any attempt at prayer," the old man continued, "until one day four years ago, my best friend said to me, "Johnny, prayer is just a simple matter of having a conversation with Jesus. Here is what I suggest. "Sit down in a chair; place an empty chair in front of you,
and in faith see Jesus on the chair. It's not spooky because he promised, 'I will be with you always'. "Then just speak to him in the same way you're doing with me right now."
"So, I tried it and I've liked it so much that I do it a couple of hours every day. I'm careful though If my daughter saw me talking to an empty chair, she'd either have a nervous breakdown or send! me off to the funny farm."

The minister was deeply moved by the story and encouraged the old man to continue on the journey. Then he prayed with him, anointed him with oil, and returned to the church.
Two nights later the daughter called to tell the minister that her daddy had died that afternoon.
Did he die in peace?" he asked.
Yes, when I left the house about two o'clock, he called me over to his bedside, told me he loved me and kissed me on the cheek. When I got back from the store an hour later, I found him dead. But there was something strange about his death.
Apparently, just before Daddy died, he leaned over and rested his head on the chair beside the bed.
What do you make of that?"
The minister wiped a tear from his eye and said, "I wish we could all go like that."

I asked God for water, He gave me an ocean. I asked God for a flower, He gave me a garden. I asked God for a friend,
He gave me all of YOU... If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it. Happy moments, praise God.
Difficult moments, seek God. Quiet moments, worship God. Painful moments, trust God. Every moment, thank God.
