  • Hey Ladies!

TGIF that's all I can say! I have had one **** of a week! We had our last float meeting before the parade last night - it was so nice to see everyone but I was sad because I can't ride. I know it's for the best - to be safe - but it's MY FAVORITE DAY OF THE YEAR!!!!! UGH! I'm going to still get in costume that day and meet my friends for breakfast and lunch. I do have a Dr. appointment that morning. So, I'll do that in between.

Well, let me get ready for work!

SOLLY: I am feeling better - thanks!!!

    Talk to you all later!
    Missy
  • Good Morning ALL!! Just finished breakfast of egg beaters, turkey saugage & cheese on a Missions low Carb burrito with 1/2 cup Carb Downdown Chocolate milk & my first cup of decaf. I think i did pretty good yesterday even with my lunch out. I didn't have anything else between meals & had a bowl of legal cereal for supper. Cutting out between meal items is a real PLUS for me because I know I had been eating too much. Anyway, I expected the scale to be up from yesterday but that's ok because I am doing better all the way around & proud of it. That's a real plus for me too!

Didn't sleep much last night. Was up till past 1:30am working on the old computer for GS. It's ready!!! I reformated it 3 times before finally getting it done right. All I had was the restore disk for Win98 but I managed to locate a WinXP upgrade which did the trick! I'm so glad to have it done because tomorrow is his 13th BD :O:

Monet, you sound in much better spirits. Great!

Rosalie, our children are about the same age. My 3 DD's are 40, 38, & 32. My 38 y.o. says she's 35 with 3 years experience buecause she refuses to be older than 35. I know we enjoy our time with GC, but oh, the peace & quiet of solitude when they're gone!

SEF, has that cool weather reached you yet? The high today is suppose to be only in the 50's compared to our 70's the past few days. I sure did enjoy that sunshine!

Missy, enjoy the other side of things this year & practice Yellowrose's "Throw me something Mr!" pose!

Jackie, Bob, miss you this am!

BEAN, I think you're the one that has the problem with sweets? Here's some suggestions I found in an email article this am.

" Are you a softie for sweets? The empty calories from sugary treats are a big reason for many people's battle with the bulge. Find out what tricks other Fit Forever! members use to temper a sweet tooth:

Cut back gradually: If going cold turkey on sweets only makes you want them more, try cutting out one or two each day over time.
Keep a food journal: You'll be less likely to reach for those empty calories when you see in writing how fast they add up.
Substitute: If you must have a sweet, pick a small one. Have a Tootsie Pop instead of a candy bar, for example.
Clear out: If you can't resist temptation, don't keep sweets in your cupboard at home or in your desk at work.
Load up on aqua: Drink a big glass of water when a craving hits, or have a cup of fruit-flavored herbal tea. That's usually all it takes to make it pass.
Be active: Take a walk, put on an exercise video, or take a spin on the bike when your sweet tooth strikes. By the time you finish, the craving is usually gone and you've burned calories instead of eating them.
Get back on track: Don't beat yourself up or abandon your goal if you slip up. Managing your weight isn't about perfection — it's about persistence! "

Well I guess I'd better get going. Have allot to do today & DELL Tech is coming later in the day to chage out my cd/dvd drive. I got all my pictures backed up just incase we have to start over.
  • Here I am.

My computer crashed yesterday. They brought out a new hard drive and mine corrupted that one. It has been a disaster. Hopefully I'm back up and running, we will see. Therefore, all my work is backed up terribly. I have a big project to do and it willtake lots of time.

Rosalie, thanks for the links. Hopefully Monday, I will have time to check them out.

Sef, glad your hip is better.

Melf, I think not eating between meals is a big step and will really help you.

Missy, have fun at the parade. Think about your bundle of joy you are carrying and you won't miss it too much. Isn't it a little early for the parade?

Sorry this is so short, but I have to get busy. Have a great weekend.
  • Just a fly by so you know I have not forgotten you all. I took care of the baby some this morning, since Laura is not feeling well...again. She and Justin seem to be passing a cold back and forth. Tom has another meeting with the consultant today. I need to run to the grocery store for milk and a few things. Then I am going to throw. I don't have the studio area set up yet, but I don't care! I have a 50# box of clay in the trunk and I want to try it!

My son is in Miami...says it is about 80 down there. I am so jealous!

Gotta go! Tom has to use my computer.
  • Good afternoon
Howdy ya'll. I'm sitting here with my pants button undone because my new big pants are no longer my big pants. But I think I am okay with it. What I mean is I don't like it but I'm not going to let it send me into a eating frenzy. If I don't get on track soon I will have to break down and get some more britches, but I'm going to give it another month and see what I do.

I love coming to the board and seeing how everybody is doing even if I don't get a chance to respond to everyone. Each of you is special and I appreciate what you add to the board.

    Love and hugs,
    Crystle
  • H all!

Here I sit, but not for long. Did change the bed and washed all the linens and blanket. Put them right back on bed so I wouldn't have to stuggle to fold them and put them on closet shelf. Nothing like bein a lasy wimp!!

ROSALIE: Tried to user the User CP but it won't open for me. Now today I can't go back to the previous page of the board. I'm a flop!

MELF:I wish I had your computer smarts! We are still in the balmy weather phase. All windows are open, it's so nice. Supposed to change tho. Hope hip is feeling better.

MISSY: You just have to look a th long range goal. Then you'll be happy. Just think of the results after waiting so long.

MONET: You sound so enthusiastic. I want to throw!!!!

Tired of sitting. I've been here a while working on the March porgram for Joyful Noise. Have to be Irish!!!!

    Will check in later

  • This is for the grey heads that might be around.

The other day a young person asked me how I felt about being old. I was taken aback, for I do not think of myself as old. Upon seeing my reaction, she was immediately embarrassed, but I explained that it was an interesting question, and I would ponder it, and let her know.

Old Age, I decided, is a gift.

I would never trade my amazing friends, my wonderful life, my loving family for less gray hair or a flatter belly. As I've aged, I've become more kind to myself, and less critical of myself. I've become my own friend. I don't chide myself for eating that extra cookie, or for not making my bed, or for buying that silly cement gecko that I didn't need, but looks so avante garde on my patio. I am entitled to a treat, to be messy, to be extravagant. I have seen too many dear friends leave this world too soon; before they understood the great freedom that comes with aging.

I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 50's, 60's and 70's, and if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love ... I will.

I will walk the beach in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves with abandon if I choose to, despite the pitying glances from the jet set.

Sure, over the years my heart has been broken. How can your heart not break when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers, or even when a beloved pet gets hit by a car? But broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding and compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect.

I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turn gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face. So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn silver.

So, to answer your question, I like being old. It has set me free. I like the person I have become. I am not going to live forever, but while I am still here, I will not waste time lamenting what could have been, or worrying about what will be. And I shall eat dessert every single day.

  • ATERNOON FROM SICK BED CENTRAL!!!

Now I have bronchitis....Kate has bronchitis (worse than me) and she is on all the medicine...as long as I can take the muscenex and cough it up, I'll stay away from the antibiotics. The Doc gave her a Zpac today so we'll see if that helps...fingers crossed please! I finally got her out of bed and into the living room. Turned on ELLEN for her to watch...she hasn't been eating a whole lot, but I got her some of that new Dannon Yogurt...the ACTIVIA, bananas, and tangerines...those were here requests...

I have to call Monday to claim my unemployment benefits...hopefully, they will get on that right away. I've already signed up, but evidently, you have to claim in order to get the money.

ANYONE heard from KRIS today? I saw on the news that upstate NY in places got up to 100 inches of snow....I hope JUNIOR wasn't in the back yard when that hit!!

    I'll check in later...

    BOB
  • MELF: LMAO!! I forgot about the "bead ho" HAHAH!!! That's so funny!

SOLLY: Mardi Gras is Tuesday the 20th. My parade is Monday the 19th. But - parades actually start tonight! They usually have them Friday, Sat, Sun and then the next week - Friday - Mardi Gras Tuesday. I heard that next year it will be around Feb. 4th! Seems to be getting earlier and earlier!

BOB: HOpe you feel better soon!
  • Bob: I have a problem...I LOVE weather...thunderstorms, blizzards, you name it. So, it only stands to reason that since I LOVE it, it never happens to me. Literally, the lake effect band of snow was about three miles from my house. I could see the black snow clouds from my bedroom window and was so mad that it wasn't just a teeny bit north. They are always calling for lake effect snow here, but it's a county-wide warning and our county is humongous and doesn't really pertain to us up north. I usually go by the weather forecast in Kinston in Canada...as the crow flies, it's a lot closer to me than Watertown and the weather there is a more accurate representation of what I can expect here. I've just had to get used to celcius which always blows my mind. As for the thick snow...that was actually about an hour south of us. Derek had to drive through it yesterday and he's so good about not panicking in the whiteouts. Being from Southern California, you'd think it would freak him out, but he just plugs right through it like he's been doing it all his life. Anyhow...he was in a town called Pulaski and he said there is so much snow on the ground, the only time you could see other cars was by the antennas on their rooves. One guy he saw pushing the snow off the roof of his house (you have to do it or it can cave in your roof...sometimes...it's not good to have all that weight on your house) and the section he was pushing fell off the roof and the section that was still on the roof was up to the man's shoulders!! Derek has a good friend in Parish, where the total is close to 100 inches or more, and you can't even see his house! The snow bank is that high! Incredible. But, that's what you call the snowbelt and that's what happens there. The schools have been closed there pretty much all week. Monday, our school was the ONLY district still open...Shelley was fit to be tied!! I hope you and Kate get better soon!!

Sef: I'm not a greyhead, but I work with all girls that were toddlers when I started hairdressing and they all make me feel ancient. I agree wholeheartedly with your post. I feel SO much better about myself since I'm 'old' (41..which, comparitively, is old amongst my co-workers)...I have age spots and a few grey hairs and some wrinkles, but I like myself a LOT more than I did in my twenties. And life is a TON more satisfying than it was then, also.

Crystle: I read this on a button once...it had sheep on it and it said, "Ewes not fat...ewes just fluffy!" That's how I feel at the moment. I came home and had some turkey for a snack, then saw the ice cream in the freezer...I was good until I had to scoop some out for Kyle, then did some damage myself...I feel fluffy, too.

Monet: That throwing sounds so messy and fun!! I hope you have a blast!!

Solly: Computers...can't live with 'em...can't live without 'em!!

Melf: Keep up the good work!! Slow and steady!!

Missy: I'm sure you'll have a great time at the parade, regardless of you riding or not. How is the barfing?

Rosalie: I hope you had a great time with the kidlets!!

Bean: Are you from Kingston, Ontario? I'm from across the river in Cape Vincent!!

Okay...I have to run. My feet hurt from work today. I'm thinking of sitting in the tub for a little while before Derek gets home. I made an ADORABLE poncho for my boss's daughter. I have to put fringe on it, then I'll take a picture and post it. It came out SO cute.

    Okay...I'm off...
  • Told you I'd check in again today! I wish I could say I accomplished something today, but alas I've been goofing off.

TECH: I know what you mean about feeling old among your co-workers. The facility I worked in was sold to a head trauma rehab outfit. I always made jokes I went with the buuilding. Anyway I had been a Recreation Therapist for years and they brought in all these fresh out of college kids. I was den mother to everybody! Maybe I should say I'm 70, not in my head but these joints remind me!!!

I come from the Poconos and we had lots of snow to contend with. I loved it. At first we sholved the old back breaking way. Then in '67 we bought a tractor with both a lawn attachment and a snowblower. We took care of the whole neighborhood. I thought it was a blast.

As a kid I was brought up along the Jersey shore, lots of Nor'easters and hurricanes. There's nothing like walking along the beach when a storm is coming, there is such power there. Yep! I love weather too.

BOB: Hope you and Kate finally shake this spell of bad health. Hard to take care of someone when you are miserable yourself. Prayers are with you.

MISSY:I remember that I had never seen as many beads as you had in your house. A truckload that had to be taken to the float. Then it rained and you didn't parade. You were rescheduled and it was for after Ashley and I had to leave. I don't remember if any of the others were able to stay or not.

Oh I did accomplish something, wrote a letter to a friend and posted here. Day wasn't a loss after all!
  • For FF:

    CATHOLIC PARROTS

A lady goes to her priest one day and tells him, "Father, I have a problem. I have two female parrots, but they only know how to say one thing."

"What do they say?" the priest inquired.

"They say, Hi, we're hookers! Do you want to have some fun?"

"That's obscene!" the priest exclaimed, then he thought for a moment. "You know," he said, "I may have a solution to your problem. I have two male talking parrots, which I have taught to pray and read the Bible. Bring your two parrots over to my house, and we'll put them in the cage with Francis and Peter. My parrots can teach your parrots to praise and worship, and your parrots are sure to stop saying...that phrase...in no time."

The next day, she brought her female parrots to the priest's house. As he ushered her in, she saw that his two male parrots were inside their cage, holding rosary beads and praying. Impressed, she walked over and placed her parrots in with them.

After a few minutes, the female parrots cried out in unison: "Hi, we're hookers! Do you want to have some fun?"

    There was stunned silence.

Shocked, one male parrot looked over at the other male parrot and exclaimed, "Put the beads away, Frank, our prayers have been answered!"
  • This is just a quickie. Have been busy all day. The kids have gone - Mom and Dad picked them up from school to-day and they headed back up to our cottage. I did a 30 minute walk this morning after I dropped them off at school then went bowling. Didn't get home until after 1 p.m. My ds arrived to pick up the kids belongings so we sat and chatted for a while. Then I had to clean my kitchen - like pull out the fridge and stove. Yuck.

Eating has been good to-day. I hade a ww bagel with melted cheddar cheese for bf. Lunch was lentil/rice pancakes topped with a veggie/lentil mix. Dinner was steamed salmon, kale and green peas.

I've just finished dinner and have to leave soon to go to the legion to play darts. Sorry I don't have time for any replies. Will try to check in later.
  • Check out these pictures of the snow.

This is about an hour from my house and I drive through these towns on my way to Rochester when I go visit my family there. Derek saw a man just like the one on the roof when he drove through Pulaski with the bank next to him up to the shoulders. Its really quite awesome to think about! And you know you're in extreme weather when you see the Weather Channel's Mike Siedel in the neighborhood!! I wish I lived in Pulaski!! It was our second choice after where I live and when it snows like that, I wish I'd have gone further south to the snow belt.
  • I just finished up trimming 12 small rice bowls, two large mixing bowls and a vase. I had a baking dish but smashed it as the handles made me mad. I had fun, and while I was working Tom finished rearranging stuff in the workroom. It is all ready to move the freezer in, so I can move the kiln over and get the electrician out to hook it up. Yay! I am pretty excited.

TECH: Wow...all that snow reminds me of the one huge snow fall we had in Chicago when I was in middle school. We had like five feet of snow, and I thought it was awesome! I think once in a lifetime is enough though! I will take the weather here, where it only snows once every two years or so!

    BOB: Feel better! Kate too!

SEF: Thanks for the funnies! I loved the parrot one!

ROSALIE: I hope you won your dart games!

FRUIT: Enjoy the parade even though you have to be on the 'other' side of it!

COUNTRY: Just keep checking in, and hopefully you will be encouraged.

MELF: Your grandson is going to love getting a computer! That is so cool of you to do that!

SOLLY: Bummer on the harddrive crash! I hate that! I hope you have a great weekend!
