Hi! I have read a lot of reviews about diets, and I don't think anyone whould ever try keeping to diets. THe best solution is to eat healthy food and work out. That's all
I read the book last night and scoured over this website. This was exactly what I was looking for -- website and the book. I'm impressed by the simplicity of the 4 cycles as well as the results I have seen on some members from 2011!
Getting my weight back under control has been my goal for this year and new beginning but until now I wasn't sure I could do it alone.
I started this diet on Monday the 11th...today I weighed in 4 pounds less. So far I am pleased with what has occured...except the occasional craving of chocolate or bread.
I would be interested in hearing from others who have had success with the 17DD and any tips they can share.
Is there still people following the 17DD? I've tried pretty much ALL the diets that are out there and only 17DD was the one I followed and lost the most weight. It was also really easy... after the 3 first days that is lol. I had gone off the diet before Christmas and was going to start over but I stopped alltogether and now I've gained a lot of weight. I've been trying to get back into it but I end up failing. The first time I did this diet, I planned my meals ahead and I made big batches so that I had my meals ready, just had to heat them up. I have the book at home. I've been thinking of reading it again and hopefully lose around 30 lbs before July. 10lbs per month is my goal. It would bring me down to 160lbs for my vacation. It's not my goal weight but it's a lot better than 190... Also, it'll only be my first goal. I'd like to reach 135-140 by November (my birthday!).
I just found out about this diet and borrowed the book from the local library. I'm looking to start Monday. I'd be willing to "buddy up" on this. Have you started yet?
Hi RainPa! C:
I actually started this morning. I was able to do a double batch of chicken veggie soup to get me started. Bought new water bottles, lots of fruits/veggies/yogurts/chicken breasts/ground turkey. I'm really excited to start and happy to know you'll be starting as well. It's the BEST diet out there in my opinion. It's really easy and you really see the weight loss in the first cycle.
Cycle 1 Day 1
My start weight is 191.0 this morning (OUCH!). I tried drinking my green tea cold this morning instead of hot and I just couldn't do it. I'll just omit the green tea I guess. I know that won't stop me from losing weight. I'm going to drink lots of water and eat on plan. For exercises, I'm planning on just walking 17 minutes/day. Start with something easy to do. I'm going to do before pictures tonight and maybe even measure myself.
This is what my menu looks for the day:
Breakfast:
2 eggs (scrambled) with mozz. cheese
2 clementines
1 small double double Tims coffee
Snack
Blueberry greek yogurt
Blueberries
Lunch
Greek Salad with Greek dressing
Snack
Strawberry yogurt
Cherry tomatoes
Dinner
Taco Salad
Snack
Yogurt

I went grocery shopping yesterday and got everything that I need for the week. My starting weight is 198
Here is what my menu was for the day:
Breakfast: 2 hard boiled eggs & red grapes
Snack: greek yogurt
Lunch: salmon fillet & a salad with fat free dressing and feta cheese
snack: yogurt
Dinner: chicken breast w/ eggplant, & tomatoes. Broccoli, carrots, & cauliflower...and I had coffee (with truvia) for dessert.
I didn't have any green tea today but will try to have some tomorrow.
For exercise, I took a walk and did some light yardwork this evening after work.
I hope you're right in that I will see results in the first cycle. Usually I start out well but then I get discouraged when I don't see results as fast as I'd like. I just recently heard about this "diet" and it sounded pretty easy so I'm hoping I will be able to stick to it. I'm a sugar-holic so I'm thinking the first few days will be the hardest for me.
You WILL lose weight if you follow it. Looking at your menu, you'll probably see the scale go down tomorrow! You did better than me!
Cycle 1 Day 2
Starting Weight: 191.0
Current Weight: 188.8lbs (down 2.2lbs!!)
Ok, I'm REALLY happy with that number this morning, here's why...
Yesterday, I was really good. Followed the diet, drank all my water, even went walking! I was great, until after my walk. Boyfriend started talking about ice cream (the dairy bar opened...). It was as if I had a little angel & a little devil on my shoulders. Angel was saying, don't do it! Devil was saying, DO IT! It will be SOOOO good! Well, after battling it out, devil won and I had ice cream... Before I went, I made my boyfriend promise me he wouldn't talk about going for ice cream again. I told him he could go but not to drag me along. I'm trying to lose weight and eating ice cream is SO off plan. lol. Anyways, when I saw that I was down 2.2, I was really happy. It's really encouraging.
I didn't weigh myself today...I wanted to so bad but decided to wait. I stuck to it again today. It was super hard at dinner though, my kids (ages 8 and 5) wanted mac & cheese with their supper, it looked SO GOOD as I was mixing it up but I refused! We're going on vacation the last week of July so my goal is to lose 20 pounds by then. Do you think that's possible or am I grasping for straws?
My menu today:
Snack: greek yogurt
Breakfast: 2 hard boiled eggs and strawberries
Lunch: a salad w/ feta cheese and a salmon fillet
Snack: red grapes
Snack: greek yogurt
Dinner: a grilled turkey burger, grilled asparagus, & sautéed spinach & green tea
and I'm drinking coffee with truvia and reduced fat cream right now
I think I'm doing okay so far but I can feel the cravings for sweets are getting stronger. Are you a member on Sparkpeople? I have a "spark recipes" app on my phone and I was looking through those earlier. Do you think sugar free jello would be okay on the 17DD? I found a recipe for yogurt jello that sounds good and is only 50 calories per 1/2 cup serving.
Days 2-4 are usually the hardest. If you stay away from sugar and carbs, your cravings should go away after that. You'll notice a difference. 20 lbs in 4 months is VERY doable! I think you're going to lose more than that in my opinion You might even lose close to that in just the first 17 days. Vacations are a great motivation! Good job in saying no to the mac n' cheese!! I know I love that too and it would be tough not to have some when it's right in front of you. I'm a member of Sparkpeople but I haven't gone on there in a while. I found the recipes I wanted on TheDoctors website. There's lots on there, you should check it out if you haven't already. I think the sugar-free jello is ok. The only thing though is there are some sweetners in it that might trigger your cravings so I wouldn't eat too much of it. A treat now and then would be fine in my opinion.
Cycle 1 Day 3
Starting Weight: 191.0
Current Weight: 187.8lbs (down 3.2lb!!)
I lost 1 more lb!! YAY!
Normally on this diet, day 2 is a hard one but it was surprisingly easy. The only struggle I had was after dinner. I satisfied myself with a yogurt and didn't have anything else. I didn't do any exercise yesterday though. I flopped on the bed and didn't want to move. Today should be a hard day. Cravings are probably going to try to come out today. I'm ready though!
Today has been okay. I had a horrible day at work and usually I would have come home and binged on candy and snacks (and believe me, I thought about it). I even had the cake pan in my hand and was ready to get myself a piece of carrot cake BUT I didn't and put it back in the fridge. Here was my menu for the day:
Breakfast: scrambled eggs (2) with reduced fat cheddar cheese & 2 clementine
Lunch: turkey burger and asparagus leftovers and a salad
Snack: yogurt
(another) snack: yogurt & grapes
Dinner: leftover chicken breast with eggplant and tomatoes.
I won't be exercising tonight, I have problems with my right foot/ankle and I was on my feet all day at work so I am limping tonight in pain. I'm going to stay off of it for the evening so hopefully it will feel better tomorrow.
I still haven't weighed myself because if I do and haven't lost anything yet, I can see myself getting discouraged and eating something that I shouldn't. I know I need to be patient and that this is going to be an ongoing commitment.
I'm worried about this Sunday, we are having my son's birthday party. Cake, ice cream, and a bunch of other stuff I shouldn't eat. I'm planning on also having fruit and raw veggies and trying to incorporate some other healthy foods that I'll be able to eat. I hope you did god today. I may just weigh myself tomorrow...
Good for you for not binging!! Don't you feel proud of yourself? I know it was hard at the time but now you can look back and see that it's doable. What I do to help is I see myself skinny in my head and I'm happy. I want that so much that if I keep that image, I know I'll succeed. I think that having fruits & veggies at the birthday party is going to help you out because you're going to want to eat SOMETHING.
Cycle 1 Day 4
Starting Weight: 191.0
Current Weight: 187.6lbs (down 3.4lb!!)
I went down .2 this morning. I ALMOST ate a bowl of cereal last night HAHA! I was SO hungry when I went to bed. But I fought through it and I'm proud. I even said no to ice crema when my boyfriend mentioned it AGAIN yesterday. I swear, I'd strangle him sometimes LOL!
Edit: I'm craving a Subway Chicken Bacon Ranch on flat bread real bad today. I was about to let myself this one cheat but then got to thinking, I don't need to cheat, I can just do it in a salad instead and just not have the mayo I normally take. I'm having that for tomorrow

Well I did it...I weighed myself this morning. I lost 0 anything I was very frustrated...I know that I'm not going to lose weight overnight but I was hoping for at least 1 or 2 pounds. I'm not giving up though. Here's my menu for the day:
Breakfast: 1 hard boiled egg & red grapes
Lunch: Turkey burger, a salad, & strawberries
Snack: greek yogurt
Dinner: scrambled egg & 3 pieces of bacon (yeah I know that's not on the permitted foods list)
AND my husband went out earlier to get gas and brought me back a mocha frappe from McD's (since I had another crappy day at work).
So I pretty much bombed today but since I haven't lost anything yet I don't feel bad about it Tomorrows another day!!
I'm sorry to hear about not losing anything. I'm VERY proud that you're not giving up! Hang in there!
Cycle 1 Day 5
Starting Weight: 191.0
Current Weight: 187.4lbs (down 3.6lb!!)
I lost another .2 this morning. Slowed down a lot but that's ok. I'm still hanging in there. I've been having a few cheats. Yesterday, I had my cabbage lasagna and my boyfriend had bought some freshly made homemade bread. YUMMY! I had a slice with butter. Haha! This morning, a co-worker made some EXCELLENT chocolate chip cookies. I had one LOL! And I ordered myself an apple juice (I'm going to count that as my fruit). Today I'm eating at Subway. Hopefully it'll rid of my craving for a chicken bacon ranch flatbread. Omg! The cabbage lasagna was GREAT! I added more cheese than what it asked for but it made it SOOO good. If you love lasagna, I recommend you try that. There are many recipes for it. I used the one with cottage cheese. SO filling too! First weekend while on the diet. I hope it doesn't throw me off. I have to be on my best behavior if I want to succeed. Good luck this weekend RainPa!
Well I pretty much blew it this weekend...yesterday I did great until dinner. We were working outside all afternoon and lost track of time, our kids said they were hungry so my husband ordered pizza. He did however get me gluten free pizza so at least I didn't have any gluten. Today was my son's birthday party for our families. We made chicken on the grill, had raw veggies, fruit, deviled eggs, and baked macaroni & cheese. I made myself a small pan of the mac & cheese but used gluten free noodles. I also had a piece of my son's birthday cake and a scoop of ice cream. I'm looking forward to getting back on track tomorrow. Even with my cheats this weekend, I'm hoping to see a change in the scale, with loss, not gain
I hope you had a great weekend!
My menu for tomorrow will be:
Breakfast: 2 hardboiled eggs & pears
Lunch: salmon fish fillet & raw veggies
Snack: yogurt & fruit
Dinner: leftover chicken with some sort of vegetables.
