The important thing to remember with all of these sorts of diets is that they don't aim to instill good behaviours over the long haul.

Whenever you hear about a diet with a specific time frame alarm bells should be ringing because what happens are the 17 days?! the reality is that you probably aren't going to be losing more than absolute max of 5-7 pounds of fat in the very best scenarios.

In fact most people will probably lose less fat than that, the rest will be made up of water and muscle loss which isn't necessarily a good result at all.

All the best results that girls have had on this website have come from long term commitment to better lifestyle choices, i.e eating and exercising in a way that can be maintained forever

Made it through Day 1, I missed breakfast and needed more protein at lunch. Waiting for payday to get all the items I need. Until then I'm just going to do what I can. I managed to skip cupcakes, birthday cake, and homemade bread! I miss my Coke, but maybe this will finally kick the pop habit!

Day 6 of my diet. Trying hard but did allow myself some toppings on my fro-yo today. Missing pizza and coke...but today I had to buy a 3x coat for the first time and I'm mad at myself. I hate my body, I really do. I hate that I allowed myself to get here. I wish I could rewind 10 years and smack some sense into myself when I started letting myself go. 4lbs. down...but it's the same 4 that come and go so I'm trying not to get my hopes up. this HAS to happen now, I want to be the best mom and wife I can be.

Hi NewMom23. I am going back to the weight loss cycles of the 17 Day Diet. I did this from March to July and lost 35 pounds without following it exactly (green tea no bueno.) I basically have been doing maintenence since. I have another 35 to go (really 60 but shooting for 35 to start.) I am starting back on cycle 1 on Monday.

Good for you Steffani! I'm down 8lbs during phase 1, I have 4 more days until phase 2. I don't care for the green tea either, I tried it and that was enough. I'm Trying to get enough water but I know I'm not. 63 more lbs to go here.

I'm in the same boat as you. I lost 40 lbs doing this diet from April-Mid June of this year. I have for the most part maintained my weight since Mid-June NOT dieting at all. I was in Europe for three months over the summer and have been at University since September so my stress and business has prevented me from continuing the diet.
I would like to start up again because I want to lose 30 more lbs! It's just so hard. I've done it once, I don't know why it's so hard to do it again since I know it worked the first time! (Granted, I did have more to lose the first time)

I know what you mean! It's so hard, and if I let myself slip even a little it's a snowball effect. Stress makes it even harder to lose.By the time i get home from work and take care of my child, i have nothing left for exercise. I keep getting mad at myself for letting my weight get this out of control. All we can do is keep trying. This time, I'm not giving up. Good luck & God bless

omgcrayons: omg, I'm in the same boat as you. When I followed this diet in 2011, I had gotten down to 160lbs and I remember how much I LOVED this diet and how I kept telling myself that I wish I would've known about this in high school. But that was before Christmas and I went off plan and have been trying to get back on plan ever since.

I've started a weight loss challenge at work this week and I've gone up to 187! I'm so frustrated with myself! I WANT to get back in 17DD but I struggle to find food I enjoy during phase 1. I love yogurt, eggs, chicken, fruits. I'm struggling with the veggies. I need to find veggies I love that I can add with meat. I did two days of 17DD but I wasn't fully prepared so fell off. I really want to get back into it. I know that once I get pass a certain number of days, it's going to be REAL easy... like last time. I'm going to start reading the book again and maybe it'll get me back into it to start it full time and get back in the routine. Anyone else still following this?

Edit: I think what I'll do is do a weekly meal plan. That way, I know exactly what I eat each day.

Wow, that's great jnmcelwain! Congrats on the weight loss so far!
I started cycle 1 on Monday. I'm currently on day 4. I actually started a blog all about my progress: http://www.3fatchicks.com/diet-blogs/sophiecormier/

Already went from 187.2 to 185.0. That's pretty good to me!

Hi fellow 17DD! I started this on Jan 7th and have lost 12lbs!! I start cycle 2 on Wednesday and like some previous posts I have read, can't wait to eat brown rice!!!! I truly love this diet and have done Atkins in the past and although it worked, it was not a lifestyle chnage and I ended up gaining most of it back as soon as I began incorporating back in the carbs. On 17DD I love eating yogurt and fruit and I don't have time to make and eat eggs in the morning so this is what first turned me on to the diet. I can't wait to slowly incorporate new foods in at the end of this week. Anyone out there try the power cookie? I am buying the ingredients today but wanted some feedback?? Good luck to all and it will work- just stay focused and be determined and think bathing suit season is 20wks away!!!!

Wow, great job on 12lbs weight loss!! That's amazing!
I'm still on cycle 1 and I had two bad days. I don't think I'll have close to the same results as you but I feel like I'm doing great compared to what I used to eat. This diet is really easy! I LOVE it!
I was going to try the power cookie once I fall in cycle 2. If you try it, let me know what you think of them.

SophieCormier - I have not tried the cookie yet but buying the ingredients this weekend to! I can't wait to try... think the word "cookie" itself has me just a tad bit excited!!! Keep up the great work and it will pay off! I find the diet very easy too so far as i love yogurt and fruits and veggies, although of course miss the occasional pasta, pizza, and snacks!! Speaking of pizza... have you tried the cauliflower dough pizza? Pizza is my weakness so I was going to try that this weekend. BUT I am giving myself 1 cheat night next weekend bc it will have been a month then and i feel as though i deserve it and will work it off the next day at the gym! Thanks again and keep in touch with your progress!!
