Day 6 of Chalean Extreme and I'm kind of dreading the Burn It Off / Recharge routine. Haven't done it yet, but still dreading it. Burn Intervals was SO challenging which is good, but I thought I was going to puke! lol. Am very happy that it looks like I will actually have made it through the first week of the program.
Unfortunately, my eating hasn't been stellar. Have been REALLY hungry on the circuit days. Has anyone had the same experience with increased hunger and how do you deal with it? Am trying to stick to 1600 calories a day since my BMR is 2145 calories.
Welp, I survived Burn it Off and Recharge this afternoon! Yeah! Had to modify at times, I worked up a crazy sweat so I must have accomplished something. Felt good to follow through. One week down, 3 to go (til the end of the Burn phase at least.) Hope I see some positive results in my shape. Don't care about scale, just inches and definition.
I agree with the Recharge, I'm not a fan of how she moves SO quickly through yoga poses, so I usually hold them while she does multiples.
Glad to hear everyone is still staying on board, I fell off a bit this weekend, but stayed on it with my working out. I did it even though i didn't feel like it and I ate like crap, so I'm pretty proud of that.
Is anyone else doing the BL Challenge on the 20Something forum?
Also, i'm finding i'm not losing a lot of weight. I'm hoping that what i've seen of people dropping more pounds in lean circuit are true!
I've been loving Turbo Fire--I was doing Insanity for about awhile and all of the jumping was doing a number on my hips...TF isn't nearly as high impact IMO, so it's been working well. I still want to go back to Insanity once I'm a bit lighter on my feet, though
Also, I've been working out long enough that I'm pretty comfortable finding modifications in a routine that work for my body--I just make the move bigger or smaller to suit my needs/capabilities. And in TF, they have a modifier that keeps all of the moves lower impact, which is helpful. I think my favorite thing about TF is the "new to class" option where she does the slower breakdown before the routine (I'm choreography-challenged!) and once you "get" it, you have the option of doing just the routine without the slow breakdown.
And, yeah, I do some serious modifications on burpees too

I own so many of the Beach Body programs and I have to say that this is the first one that I've lasted the whole week on, as defined by the program schedule and I really, really like it. The workouts are so tough, but they are doable by someone my size (I modify the burpees heavily, but many folks probably do the same : )
I wonder why someone didn't give her better advice on the cool downs - agree completely on the concerns there... and I wasn't too wow'd by her going in and out of certain yoga poses again and again (I have bad knees), but overall I'm very very pleased with the program. I go up to 15lbs, and I'm thinking that it may not be long before I need to invest in bigger weights
BluCypressLily - I'm impressed that you do Turbo Fire - it looks too high impact for my knees, but I'm interested in your thoughts on that. I like Turbo Jam, as I have a bunch of those videos.
Heavy lifting will definitely make you hungry! I do think you might want to up your caloric intake a bit on the days you lift--your body needs fuel in order to build muscle.

I haven't lost any poundage either, but my clothes are looser! I think with muscle-building programs the scale isn't the best indicator since (ideally) you'll be building muscle and burning fat...since muscle is more dense than fat, you may actually be losing fat pounds but gaining muscle pounds at the same time--you probably won't see "weight" loss on the scale at this stage.
I never thought I would like lifting heavy, but I'm really, really enjoying it (never thought I'd like running either, but I guess I'm just smashing all my preconceived notions lately!). I think probably because the science behind it makes sense to me.

I just ordered Chalean Extreme...I hope to receive shortly. I have been a huge Turbo Jam fan for years (and the Turbo Kick classes when I lived in So. Cal). I have also just told my husband I want Turbo Fire for Christmas; we'll see if I can hold out that long. I have been doing Turbo Jam and Jillian Michaels DVDs for the last couple of months, so I think I can handle the Chalean Extreme. I'm excited to start. Once I do, I'll post some more...
Today is Burn Circuit 2, week 2, for me. This is the very longest I've ever stuck with a program, and I love it. I haven't lost more than a couple of pounds, but I feel the changes in steadier knees and less body fatigue in general (I've been feeling really run down due to my lifestyle / bad eating habits). And I keep coming back.
I was originally restless with 2 rest days each week, but I really like that they are there - somehow it's the right amount of pressure for me around exercise and I see it as "easy" to complete and so I do it! Huh!
Hi. I googled "chalean extreme" and found this message board. I suspect my question has already been answered elsewhere, but given there are 30 pages on the subject, I couldnt locate it. What equipment is required to use this program, and how much room do you need? I workout in an unused bedroom that houses no furniture but does have a weider home gym, an elliptical, and a pilates machine. Space is at a premium. I have room to lie down to do crunches, leg lifts, and such, but not a whole lot of room for jumping around and doing dancey cardio workouts.
I can't believe I'm almost done with week 3 of Phase 1 already! Today will be BC3 and then only one more week of Burn before moving on--it's gone by fast. Yesterday I did Extreme Intervals (from the deluxe set) and, while it kicked my butt, I didn't really enjoy it as much. It's an interval program alternating cardio and weighted endurance segments just like Burn Intervals, but it utilizes a stability ball. While I like the ball for the weighted endurance segments, I didn't like the cardio portions, most of which involved swinging the ball while doing cardio moves. It felt awkward to me.
I'll try it again though (it really did kick my butt) since it might just be one of those that I need to get used to.
I'm excited about moving on to the Push phase!
Hi there!
At it's core, Chalean Extreme is a strength training program, so you'll need either free weights or resistance bands (if you have the choice, I would definitely recommend free weights).
As for space, I have limited space as well and have been able to do the workouts without too much difficulty. If you can lay down on the floor and have enough room to stretch your arms overhead, you should be fine. The weight lifting workouts don't take up much room at all (the most being pushups), but the cardio sessions take up a bit more. If you can jump laterally from side to side, you should be fine. And if you don't have that much space, just make the move smaller (instead of jumping, just step from side to side) and go lower (like you're squatting while stepping) to maintain the same intensity. Most workouts can be modified to fit space limitations--it just takes some creativity.
Of course, you could always use CLX for the weight training segments alone and substitute your own cardio if you still feel like your space is too cramped.

Thank you. Does the program require you to work out every day? If not, how many days per week do you work out? How long is each workout? I'm trying to figure out how to fit this in my schedule.
The program as written is 5 days a week, but I usually add an extra cardio day because I don't like having 2 rest days in my week. 3 of those days are heavy lifting days with the other two being cardio and endurance days. The lifting workouts are about 40 minutes. One of the cardio workouts is 30ish minutes and the other is 50ish minutes. There's also a short add-on ab routine and a yoga/stretch routine.

I started CLX today. Did Burn Circuit 1. I didn't think it was too, too bad...great workout! My legs were shaking afterwards. I will need to increase weight on a few exercises next time, but overall I had a good workout. I was surprised by how few calories I burned, though. According to my BodyMedia Fit, I burned 260 calories. I think I will be doing Turbo Jam or a Jillian Michaels DVD on my rest days and add cardio to the yoga day, too.
