Its beautiful here today so I'll be going for a run soon after my lunch has digested a little more. I hate running when I have just eaten... not a good combo.
Anyway, I have restarted weigh training. I think I'll do 4 days a week with an option for 3 if my schedule gets too busy (Legs, chest &tri & abs, back and Bis, and shoulders and abs <I'll combine the back and bis with this one if I get too busy>). I did my legs today, so I will probably be sore demain, but whatever, I am really happy about being able to get back to the gym now.
i went for my last 4 mile run of the week today. i didnt get a chance to go before work, so i had to go after. i had already taken 10,000 steps before i started my run. i was dreading it, but it was a gorgeous day out (about 60 F and sunny) so i felt great.
i didnt run the whole time because i was beat but i finished in under 12 minutes a mile. that is the absolute slowest that i will let myself finish. the last half mile i was kinda having to pick up some slack for slower begining miles. oops.
anyway. i have to say i definitely prefer running in the morning. less traffic, less tired, and it makes the rest of my day go so smoothly.
Ali -- I did not wait to digest today after lunch and had a horrid first half hour run... I basically walked most of the way... I had given myself 30 mins at home to digest I thought it was pretty good because I only had oatmeal. When I couldn't run, I walked for 30 mins, then jogged the rest of the way another 30 mins... I was gone for 1hr07mins... it sure was a gorgeous day here too... but only after my run ... luck of the draw I guess...I'm not sure how many klicks I did today I will measure it tomorrow...
Tomorrow I will run to the gym 2.5k, then work chest maybe, then run back... it'll be a short run tomorrow.
alright ladies. i hope everyone got some great running in this weekend. i finished my first week of training and boy are my legs tired. i think i may need to go a little slower but i'm going to stick with it for a couple more weeks and see how i start to feel.
ran my first run of the week today. only three miles, but it was a hard three miles. i was tired and it was raining, hard. it felt good though. thats something that has been consistent in all my runs. no matter how tired i feel, or how much i walk, i always feel fantastic just for being out there and getting it done. hope everyone's week starts out as good as mine did.
I did a 10km "long" run Sunday am. The distance of my long run will be increasing 3/4 weeks for the next couple of months. It's much nicer being out for an hour in barely below freezing temps than in -20C! I'm enjoying our current weather, which is spring-like for QC (temporary I'm sure), but still cold enough at night to let the snow melt slowly rather than turning all parks, trails, roads, etc into an instant big slushy mess.
Laura, I agree with you. Sometimes it's hard to make myself get out and run, but I'm always happy I did it by about 1/2 through the run.
Ilene, I've learned the hard way that I need to run at least 2-3 hours after eating or it is not a good experience. Which is why I tend to get up and run first thing in the morning. Coffee and oatmeal taste so much better after running for an hour too.
Yesterday I got up and ran the furtherest I've EVER gone, 5.5miles. It was one of those really great runs too, where you feel like you could go on forever. Sooo good! This morning I got up and did my usual 30 minutes, and I'm getting closer to the 3mile mark - 2.93. I'm hoping to hit it by next Monday at the latest.
OnlyMe -- I find if I wait 2-3 hours after eating, before running or going to the gym, that I'm hungry again at that 2-3 hour point, and I can't get through with the workout... On Sunday I ate my usually oatmeal and eggwhites 1/2 hr or so before going out and I was fine... Don't know what happened on Saturday... Just one of those days I guess...
LOVE2C135 -- Don't you just LOVE running when you don't feel a thing... Legs are not sore, knees are in line, breathing is perfect, sun is out, !! I wish every single run would be like that, I would run FOREVER!! Unfortunately that's not the way it is in the real world, those really really good runs though is what keeps me going because they seem to happen more and more ... Congrats on the great run ...
Saturday I thought I had done such a horrid walk/run, but I ended up going 9k, I was pretty pleased with that, considering how I felt ...
Today I will not run, I just came back from the gym and had a great leg worout!!
I am becoming a running again, if I can shed the 30 lbs dragging me down, my goal is to weight 110-115. I usually do the treadmill 45 mins / 3.8 miles, 4-5 times a week. I have been reading the Couch to 5k plan an I believe I will start today, although I believe I am about the 3 week pace.
Im so happy to have found this thread, I've been a member here for several years, and started running last year. Im currently training for my first half marathon on April 3, Big D 1/2 marathon, and my first marathon on December 11, White Rock Lake Marathon in Dallas. Im so excited to find other runners here. Cant wait to learn more about all of y'all!
happytx, I am training for a marathon in dec. right now too. i use this thread to post up my progress. i'm interested in hearing your's too since i've never done this before.
well i've got a four mile run today. this should be interesting because i am really starting to hurt from all this running. i'm afraid I amy have to cut back a little right now, and just allow myself longer to train. i think i might stay one more week at the mileage i am at (15 miles a week) and then move up. i'll wait and see though.
Laura - I know what you mean about starting to hurt from all the running. I just started all this in October and I found it very painful. It seemed to be something different every week. First it was my shins, then my knee now it's my joint in my hip! Also I had an injury in my shin from pushing it too hard in a 10K race on NewYear's. I actually had to take a week off. What I did was repeat some weeks at the very beginning, just to get a more solid foundation.
Happytx - I am training for my first half marathon also. It will be on May 28. After that I plan to run the full marathon in October. Here is my running schedule for this week according to my handy dandy training plan:
Since today is Tuesday... I have done the 14.5K (took 1h40min), done the rest day and today I did 8K.
I didn't enjoy my run today at all. I couldn't get into my comfort zone at all. How many calories are you guys eating when you are doing all this running. I am having troubles finding the balance.
Challenging 6.34km this am due to all the warm temps and rain on top of the snow/ice on the sidewalks and roads. I really hate waiting for traffic lights, but I was crossing a busy road so I didn't have much choice. So I stopped my timer for the light--I waited over 2 minutes for the pedestrian crossing; that would really have thrown off my lap/km time! My usual running path was out of question unless I wore skates, and my bruises and pride are still healing from last friday's 6km skating. At least there was no risk of frostbite and it wasn't actually raining while I was running.
Annie, I'm not running nearly as much as you are, but I'm currently aiming for 1600-2000 calories per day, with a little extra Saturday evening since I do my long run first thing Sunday morning. What schedule are you following for you training? You're running a lot of kms!
LOVE2C135-- I ran over 10k for the first time on Sunday too. I'd run just under 10k a few times, but breaking the 10k mark was a huge psychological barrier for me. I felt great (and a bit tired) when I was done.
Since I'm a relative beginner at this my longest run so far has been almost 9k, 8.7k to be exact and that was on Saturday when I was so out of tune with myself and I walked half of the way, it took me 1h07mins...*I* thought that was pretty good, considering how I felt......
Today I did the dreaded and I found the time excruciatingly long on there , who wouda thunk that I would enjoy ouside more now, someone had warned me of this phenom a while back... I'm constantly suprising myself with this running thing......
I eat on average 1400 -1600 during the week, and weekends are usually 1600-1800 it works well for me... Usually about 30 - 45 mins before my run I eat oatmeal and eggwhites, and it keeps me going for a good run... I LUVS my oatmeal!!
Oh, I also wanted to add that I've noticed that I cannot run more than 2 days in a row yet, without taking a break for a day to recoup... my joints just can't take it, neither can the muscles in my legs they are just, sore! I take Glucosamine for joint pain, hubby takes it for his knees and I've recommended it to several people and they all came back amazed at the results ... I swear by it ...
Alright ladies this is my very first post I decided to join because of this particular thread. I got my running shoes today and I running for the first tiem in a very LONG time. You guys got me all motivated on running. I'm going to follow the couch to 5k plan. Looks like something I might be able to handle. I 'm really excited about it. Any tips for a beginner?
