WOOHOO SusanB ... Welcome to Cool Runners!!

Even I've been a wimp the last couple of weeks with running outside! After reading OnlyMe going out in -18C and now Susan you going out in -9C well I will NOT be outdone ... Oh , don't take me seriously ANYONE can outdo me ...

I ran on the dreadmill yesterday!! tick, tick, tick, the time passed... I'm almost, disliking running inside, but not quite yet...

This morning I didn't run I did 1 hour of legs only at the gym... I could barely walk down the stairs at the gym...

Good morning all. Ever have one of those really lousy runs? The kind where your thighs feel like jelly and you just can't get into it? I had one of those yesterday, which was pretty discouraging. I had planned on running 6 miles, but wound up walking after 4. I can't figure out why -- I didn't change my eating, although I did feel pretty hungry all day long. Anyway, I'm determined to get it right today. I think I'm going to sign up for a half marathon in May, so I need to get my act together!

Have a great day, ladies!

Went out last night for a 13K since I didn't go on Sunday. It was cold but not too bad. I had my balaclava which I didn't need until the last Kilometer or so.

Today is supposed to be an 8k run according to my handy dandy schedule, but I am SORE! How in the world I'll run 8K I have no idea. I guess I'll just bundle up and head on out and see what happens. I am totally open to trimming the run down to 5 or 6 K if I feel too crappy.

My weight loss is kind of slow this week so I at least want to try.

Hey everyone! I hope you don't mind me butting in for a moment I was just curious since you are all runners how fast do you have to be going to be running? I used my gazelle at 6mph today and for me that is pretty fast lol. So I was just curious how fast you guys run or if you measure it on a treadmill or whatnot?

Thanks for your help!

Veerie, you'll always have bad training runs- comes with the territory. Just stick with your plan and you'll be fine.

Annie, Susan and Ilene! Wow, you guys are so brave. I don't like going out when its under 40F, what's that about 5C I think. I am inspired. I'm supposed to run again tomorrow, but it's supposed to rain. Could be interesting, but I'm thinking maybe treadmill.

MichelleRae -- But in any ole time girl!! I guess I run about 5-5.5mph outside or on a treadmill... Inside I will do intervals up to 7mph for just a minute at a time though... I can go much further outside because boredom is not a factor...on a I get fed up after 40 minutes and do about 3.45 miles, I'm not very fast but I am getting mucho better the more I do it...

sweater girl, when i cover my mouth with a scarf, or balaclava, my glasses fog up making it absolutely impossible for me to see. generally, here, it is never cold enough to need anything like anyway, we have just had some really cold mornings lately.

i have still been slacking on my running. had some time off with the hubby so we went on a 20 mile bike ride. he bought me a new pink headset for my bike so i had to try it out. it was sunny and 60 here yesterday so we got to spend all afternoon on our bikes. it was nice. i haven't been spending enough time on my bike lately. sometimes when i start running, everything else takes a back seat and my bikes have been feeling neglected lately.

Michelle--Running speed varies considerably person to person. For me, it's also variable depending on how long my run is, how I'm feeling, weather and road conditions, whther I'm running for speed, etc. I tend to average 8:30-10 minutes per mile, depending on the above factors, which I guess is 6-7 mph

sweet, thank you guys for your help I figured that the speed was variable but wasn't sure around what speed a slow run started.

Thanks again for all of your help

It is too windy today! I did run to the mail, about 100 yds and back, but that was enough.

Oh Michelle? Some of us are just wannabees (me) and the answer to your question is very, very slow. If I'm doing all the conversions right, my couch 2 5 K yesterday was only 4.4 mph.

Michelle -- Speed is definitely variable... when I first started I couldn't go faster than 4.5...

Laura -- When I cover my mouth with something too my sun glasses fog up... heck this afternoon I was sooo hot, in -14c who woulda thunk , I had nothing on my mouth just the heat of my face was fogging my glasses...

Yes, I had a superb run this afternoon... 8.5K took me a heck of a long time though. 1h05mins some sidewalks and even streets were like running in sand... what a workout on the calves let me tell ya! But it was gorgeous ....

Well I got a gym membership yesterday so I could use the treadmill. It has been way to cold for me.

I did 4.8 miles yesterday which is 7.68K. Tonight I will do 5M for 8K. My Sunday run this week will be 14.5K and we will do that one outside. I am disappointed though. I haven't been losing the weight this week the way I thought I would have. Considering I have run 26K this week! But I have gained quite a bit instead. I went from 143.9 up to 146.7! I have been eating a bit more because last week I was feeling weak and tired. So now I am totally screwed up! I don't know how much to eat anymore?! I have been using the nutridiary web site and I have been eating less than what they recommend but not by much. One day I actually went over... but honestly I am suprised that I gained this much! I am going to decrease my calories a lot starting today. And then increase only a little bit at a time if I am feeling weak. Right now I just feel FAT!

michelle, my best time that i ever had on a run was a little under 10 minutes a mile. my average time is about 11 minutes a mile. i run slow. i want to pick up speed but it just hasn't happened for me yet. i probably need to run more.when i first started running i was running at about 4.5 miles an hour. it def. takes time to build up speed.
