I ran 7K today on my lunch hour. The sidewalks are a total mess. I ended up going on the road... and the traffic wasn't too happy about that but I don't care he he he.
Tomorrow it's 7K again and the same on Friday and once more on Saturday. Then on Sunday it's 16K. I should be losing a bit of weight next week for sure!
I wanted to go out this afternoon for a run but my g/f dropped in so we ended up instead... So I just called a teacher where I work and we're going out tonite, I hope it's a nice run... It should be...
Hi Anne! I finally managed to get another run this am, the first one since Sunday. The weather and dh's schedule conspired against me on Tuesday and Wednesday, with first 6" of snow Monday night which running Tuesday am impractical unless I wanted to go inthe middle of the road. And the snow was so wet and heavy I couldn't even pull the girls on their sled, so I'm glad I didn't try running. Then, by the time the roads and sidewalks were cleared later in the day, dh had to be at work and I was alone with all 3 kids. Tuesday night/Wednesday we got rain, lots of rain, which made a big slush fest of roads and sidewalks alike.
Last night we got snow again, but only a couple of inches, so I was able to finally go running again. I did about 8/9km with 3 hill repeats in the middle, not sure the distance exactly because I kept getting gps signal warnings while I was going up the hill (along a high concrete retaining wall) and at least one up and down of the hill (probably 2) didn't get recorded at all distance wise. It was a long hill, but not too steep as far as hills in this city go. But I've been running on a really flat trail since last summer, so it was a real workout for me. I'm going to try and incorporate hills or at least a less flat course once every week or two.
I am still stuck running indoors. We got some snow here today and last night a little. It has been around 2 degrees..brrr. I changed it up by running on the track instead of the treadmill on Thursday and the variety helped a bit. I am so ready for spring to be here. It's been a busy week with classes and tests and working but I stayed on track healthy eating throughout the stress. I am so proud . I loves my oatmeal. Ha. Tonight I am cooking with ground turkey for the first time. Anybody have any ideas to try?
Have a good weekend everyone! Maybe I will try outside on Sunday. I will let you know.
D
hey everyone. i have been kind of busy this week and haven't been able to keep up with my internet life. hehe. i ran all my training runs this week. did a great 4 miles cross country run on thursday and ran my five mile today. they both went fantastic. no spills either. i'm finding that the further distance that i run, the more i enjoy it. next week i up my mileage by one mile. so i go for my first 6 mile run ever onsaturday. ii am really looking forward to the challenge.
Just came back from a great run, I think it was around 9k, I'll go measure later... It was -5c/23f, with a brisk west wind... By golly it was so brisk at times I could feel myself pushing through the wind... it felt great though...
Hockeyfan -- I LOVE my oatmeal too, don't know what I'd do without that staple in my diet... I eat it sometimes 3 times/day, I don't have much imagination when it comes to food hehe......
Annie -- Glad to see you are having such great runs...
Anywho, hope all is well with everyone else... TTFN
16km run this afternoon at 5:45/km pace. I can't wait until spring arrives and all the snow and ice and crud finally goes away. I ran the last 1.5km today on a bare road, and it was effortless to keep up my pace compared to the rough ice/smooth ice/snow/grit mess I'd run on for the first 14.5km. But if I run on the road any further, then I have to deal with traffic lights, sidewalks, etc. Maybe I should just run up and down that wonderful, quiet, traffic light-less mile stretch of road! That would get more than a little boring on long run days though. Hmm, maybe for shorter runs while the path is such a mess--this afternoon I was actually fondly remembering the January days of nice, smooth hard packed snow and frost forming on my gloves in the morning!
Just a quick drive-by posting. I was on a horrid business trip from **** this week, but I did manage to run. Unfortunately it was on the treadmill, but I'll take it. 3 miles. Yippee. Also hit an elliptical trainer a couple times. Running is way, way better.
I have run about 19Ks since I last posted... It's cold again and I hope that this is the last of the very cold weather... Although that does mean I get to deal with the masses of snow that tends to arrive in March.
My cardio seems to have gotten back to where it was before Christmas so I am happy about that... I am also back into the 8s fairly comfortably, but for some reason I am beyond bloated right now and my TOM just ended. I have a cold though, I am wondering if it's that and the Advil Cold and Sinus.
It's great you guys are keeping up with the running. I am loving it! I am doing the St Patty's day 10K so that should be fun!
Cheers!
Ali

Well let's see humm... I skipped my tuesday run because it was raining cats and dogs but I went out Wednesday instead...then I skipped my Friday run because there it was -20C I need to get appropriate gear to be able to run in weather like that. I went out tonite thoug and it was cold at first but I warmed up eventually. It is -7 but with the windchill it's -15C. My ears were hurting when I got back.
The running part however was great. I've noticed my breathing is much better and I'm running a little bit faster. It's still hard to get out on the streets a little bit, especially when it's cold but once I'm out there it's wonderful.
I ran 16K last night and it was a breeze. Except I had to make a little pit stop to use the toilet . Otherwise it was great. No pain today and the scale was down to 140.1 this morning. I am so tickled pink!
Ali--glad to here you've recovered from your layoff. Good luck with your St. Pat's 10K! Hope this week's cold weather isn't too painful for you.
Madjek--be careful with your ears and the cold! I ran through -20something mornings without a problem because I was always really well dressed. Then I got mild frostbite on my ears on a sunny afternoon when it was "only" -12, although breezy--I got warm and took my headband off quite early into a longish run, exposing my poor ears to the wind for over 30 minutes. I didn't notice they hurt that much until a few minutes after I got home, when they began to thaw; my poor ears were achy for days, then some of the skin peeled off. I don't take of my headband much anymore when it's more than a couple of degrees subzero!
Anne--wow, you've got a full schedule! How long did you take to build up to running 5x per week and that many kms?
good to see everyone still running. i woke up this morning to go run and it was thunderstorming and hailing so i cancelled. 3 hours later is sunny and 70 degrees and i had a fantastic run. only three miles. tomorrow is my five mile run and i'm am really looking forward to it.
madjek- good to see you are sticking with it. just wait until it gets nice outside. it'll be great.
annie- awesome distance. i can't wait until i'm running that much.
I'm pretty new to running...just started up again last week. A few years ago, I was training for a marathon, but a knee injury stopped me from running altogether. I'm trying to start slowly--one mile on the treadmill two days/week--but I'm so excited to be going again, it's hard for me to hold back. I love to run, but the last thing I need is to hurt my knee again. Hopefully, by the time the weather improves, I'll be ready to do some distance and some hills.
Holy cow! I though it was cold here, with an average temperature of about 20°F. How can you breathe at subzero temperatures??? That is truely dedication.
