I'm at 590 year to date. I'm not going to post too much in the way of running mileage in the next few weeks since we are going on vacation and switching to hiking mode.

Hi guys!! Great job on the persistence and the mileage! Woohoo!!

I'm back from France. I ran twice, biked once, and walked miles and miles every day. The STAIRS! Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomph, the metro, the cathedral stairs! But those are hard to count.

So I will count the runs (6 miles), the bike ride (13), and our day in London when the metro was on strike and we walked continously from 8 am to 9 pm (9 miles is a conservative estimate).

Hi everyone, I am new to the site and am looking for just such a challenge to keep me on track with my new plans for a healthier self. I am thinking 400 miles for the rest of the year. I am just wondering, do you only count exercise miles or total daily mileage. I am sure it is just exercise miles, but just checking.

I can't use a signature yet, I will just post my mileage in my messages for now.

Is there anything else I need to know or do..

thanks

Margaret

Margaret...you count what is meaningful to you. If you wear a pedometer and want to count "normal daily" mileage, then go for it. Some people count walking, biking, running, elliptical miles. I count only running because that is what is important to me (I may be a bit..umm..running crazy)

Thanks for the advice, I think I would like to just stick to the exercise, I already get 6-8 miles a day in normal walking, I am all over the office during the day. So I really need to boost things to make a difference. I did my first weigh in this morning and I lost 7.4 lbs my first official week for a total of 15 lbs in June. I am feeling pretty good.

I have a long way to go, but if I take it one day at a time, it will come soon enough.

Happy Walking/Running/Biking/Jogging everyone

I can't wait to see a pic! I'll exchange a couple pics of Italy (where I was in March) for a couple pics of Paris!

My body rebelled this morning. Yesterday after my speedwork I took the kids to costco, winco, new seasons(like whole foods) to the farm for my CSA pickup and then to the pool. When I got home I was wiped out. When my alarm went off this morning I growled at it and shut it off. Somehow I convinced myself I would have time today for at least an hour of running. I had 20 minutes. Did 1.5 miles outside and then came in and did a barefoot 0.5 miles on the tread. Barefoot running is interesting. I see why I get such different injuries on the right and the left, I land completely differently. Anyway, some of what ails me on the right side chronically is supposedly helped by barefoot running occasionally to strengthen things. The left side doesnt like it much so I think I'll stick to 0.5 mile jaunts 3-4 times a week. The right side REALLY liked it though. All the achiness vanished.

I'm considering a pair of vibrams but I think that is just my gearhead wishes. I should wait and see if I like this barefoot running thing before spending $$.
