Too cold for outdoor running, but I managed 2 miles in 12 degree temperatures, hoping the mercury will rise this coming week, I need 10 miles by Thursday to make goal 90 miles.
Question for racers: With all the running I do, I have never done a race. I really don't know why not - maybe because I see it as stress relief, and if I am "racing" it won't be?? Anyhow, can anyone give me insight on how running is different when running a 5 or 10k, vs. just going for a run ? Thanks!!!
I have reached goal of 75/75 as of yesterday.
Snowing this moring but I should be able to get out ths afternoon.
Looks like eeryone has done well for January!
ceegee - it depends how you approach the race. If you want to treat it as a training run with company and maybe a medal or a t-shirt at the end, you can. If you want to go out and race it, you can. If you want to use it as an accurately measured course to measure your progress you can do that to.
Personally, if I'm racing no matter how often I tell myself in the build up that I'm going to take it easy, it tends to turn into all out racing and pushing myself as hard as I can on the day, but there's no rule saying that you have to.
I had to get some miles in today! Angie and I have had too many restaraunt (although pretty healthy) meals this week-end. I did 4.5 miles on the treadmill this morning....raining too hard to take the dogs out.
57/75 miles
CEEGEE ~ There is really no need to stress while doing a 5 or 10K....the races Angie and I get in usually have plenty of people running/walking around our speed....you just get in that group at the start.....a lot of the races we enter have 5-6-7-8.....and so on "minute miles" sticks...you just group up in that area as the race lines up. 5K's are so much fun...we doing around 5 a year.
2 miles on TM - was going to run to add up some more miles but SIL called so I walked instead so I could talk to her. Will try to get in a run tomorrow.
Thanks for the race advice! I guess it is what you make it....and I am sure I would make it competitive, lol. But maybe that would be okay...I will try one this spring (I HATE running in the cold!)
I haven't been updating my miles at all this week, so:
1-23: 1.6 miles
1-24: 3.1 miles
1-25: 1.4 miles
1-26: 3.3 miles
1-27: 13.1 + 2.9 miles = 16 miles
80.4/75 - made my second goal! Don't think there's time to reach a third one, but I'd like to try for 100.
