Trish,I was reading today about interactions between my meds. The pharmacists usually check for that and actually when I worked at the pharmacy the computer flagged it if you were taking meds that interact. Im going to have to look them up again and check with my doctor. I actually did find a place where it said Lasix can raise blood sugar but not for everyone. Mine goes very high sometimes, dangerously high, but I won't mention it publically. Also it said if you take Lasix and Glimiperide, it may cause dehydration and excessive urination. That might be why I pee my pants if I take full strength Lasix. I want to ask if I can make diet and lifestyle changes until the next A1c before he changes meds. Once I get used to how a med works I dont want to change and start all over. In the past I have f lately refused to take a med. I know he doesn't like when I do that but I do research, and I feel I have a right to be involved in my medical decisions. When professionals don't catch these interactions it makes me angry. I should not have to look this stuff up myself. I know I have a lot of medical conditions and some of them are my own doing. And I take a lot of meds prescribed by different doctors. But I'm not the only person in that position. One thing that bothers me is when one med is prescribed for A certain condition but then it contributes to another condition. The way statins raise blood sugar, and now diuretics do also. I also read that diuretics can cause fatigue and low energy, so that could be why I've been tired ever since my procedure, when they put me on the diuretic. My blood sugar was very high in the hospital and I blamed it on the dye,but it could also have been the diuretic. There is more to this medical stuff than "take this pill to control this condition.". I guess its a lot to expect doctors to know the side effects and interactions of every med,but the pharmacist is a double check mechanism when they fill the prescription. Peoples health and lives depend on this.
Carol Sue That is what a lot of doctor's we watch on YouTube complain about. They say they give us medicines some time just to one thing and then they have to give us a pill to take care of some side effect the 1st pill caused and on and on. I don't think they things as thoroughly as we did when we worked. Even the doctors only know enough of what the pharmaceuticals tell them so they can give us the meds they want us to take. I like to think my doctors are better than that.
I ate only 2 meals today but will probably have to take eat a little bite of something to take my pills because I forgot to take my pills with my breakfast and had to take them with dinner. I hate to take a bite because I'm actually not hungry. I finished Dr. Tan's book and I saw where some of the people who were in researched did Atkins or Low Carb especially for ovarian cancer so I will continue doing Atkins LC and maybe as I go along I just might up my carbs to 30 g instead of 20 g or less. My calorie plan was for 2007 and my carbs are 17 total. However, if I eat a bite to take the pills, my calories will not even make it to 1000.

I am up and I have a headache again. I think its the weather. I rarely get headaches but I've had them often lately.
Trish, not all meds have to be taken with food. I think the only one of mine that specifies food is Metformin, but I take my bedtime dose without food. I asked a pharmacist about it and he said its up to me.
I think the doctors are educated to think of what pill helps with what condition. They are taught very little about nutrition. My doctors never discus diet except for cardiologists who suggest a heart healthy diet, and that is usually low sat fat. There are different ideas of what is a healthy diet. My surgeon after my bowel surgery just said "Eat your fruits and vegetables". The nurse at the old cardiologist said " Watch your fats. "My PCP never says anything about diet or exercise. Its all pills with him. He never considers how you feel, just the number that shows up on bloodwork. A few years ago I was eating good and exercising regularly. My bloodwork came back so good he asked how I did it. He now wants to change my statin. I told him, this one is working and has no side effects. I tell him if he changes it I won't take it. I am not a good patient.
I want to go back to bed but I have to go for bloodwork. I hope its not crowded. There are no appointments at this lab. Its all walk ins and wait your turn. I am so worried about my A1c. I know it will not be good, but just hope its not bad. The doctor is happy with 7. I am not but I can work on it.I just don't want my meds changed now because I know how these meds work. Next time I might consider a change. It would be nice if next time I didn't need meds.
Carol Sue I don't have to take my bedtime meds with food as I only take 2 bp meds and one magnesium. But I take other meds and supplements twice a day, once at breakfast and once at dinner. I set them up this way so that I can eat only 2MAD. I will be more careful to do this now. I am ready to switch to 2MAD with breakfast and dinner most days.
Weight was 154.8 this morning and FBG 105 and ketone was 1.2 and which I read it needs to be under 3 and I think I read either in Dr. Tan's book or on a FB cancer group that it should be between 0.6 and 3. So I am good. BP is very good and I am now checking oximeter and it was between 96 and 97. DH is a respiratory therapist and he said it needs to be 97 or above. Dr. Tan's book says that exercise should be walking and breathing exercises along with Keto Diet.
Another way of counting carbs I saw on a cancer group was count total carbs if eating a processed food and net carbs of all other carbs. I found that interesting, but as Dr. Westman would say that is too complicated.
Have a good day everyone. Carol Sue I hope your lab work goes well without a long wait.

Labs went well. No wait at all. However, the results are already on my portal and are not good. My A1c is 8.2! Yikes! I knew it would be up but not that much! Also,my kidney function is not good but I will have to go back and see if its worse than before. Im not happy, but I have no one to blame but myself. I know the changes I need to make.
Carol Sue I am so sorry the A1c and kidney function wasn't good. I pray you can improve both of them. Glad you didn't have a long wait at the lab.
I called oncology and told them when my eye surgery is going to be and asked if he still wants to see me the day after the first eye surgery. He said 'No'. He will have a scheduler call me and schedule me for lab and to see him 2 weeks after my second eye surgery which will be the last week of July. The nurse I saw while he was on vacation said I wouldn't have to do a urine test when I have labs done that day but that didn't make sense to me sense that is the test that will tell us if I can go back on the BEV chemo medicine. So I asked about that and he said yes, he wants me to do the 24 hr urine test. I am thankful this gives me time to get any teeth work done before I go back on treatment.
I'm not sure I can do the keto plan as they say to do. I think I can do it the way Dr. Westman and Drs. Eades say but I just can't eat all that fat they say I need to ear to fight cancer. If I remember Dr. Adkins had us eat so we could get into ketosis but we didn't have to eat a lot of fat. I've got Dr. Fung's book The Cancer Code and I'm starting to read it now.

Trish, I dont remember who it was that said you dont need to eat all that fat to do keto. I don't remember because I dont have any real interest in doing keto. Im not even sure I understand what Keto is.
I'm very nervous about going for my DR appointment on Friday. I want to try to fix all this with diet and exercise before making any med changes. I guess I will just take it as it comes. I read that its not advised to stop Lasix cold turkey so I took half today. I'm ready to stop all my meds and start over. Im confused.
Carol Sue I am so sorry your meds are confusing for you. I admit all this is confusing to me as well. I didn't realize your FBG was so bad. I wish doctors could help us better. I'm not sure they know what to do.
I have slept all afternoon. The breakfast sausage was good but too greasy. I am going to have to start doing like I have always done when I cooked greasy food and pat it dry so I don't eat the fat. DH DD told me last night that a lady who was a neighbor of hers when he she was pregnant with our youngest grandson has Stage 4 cancer and she is eating something called God's food. She just had her second chemo meds today. DD wanted to hook us up so we can support each other, but I want to do low carb if I can.
I guess we do the best we can and pray God will show us what to do. Sure hope I feel better tomorrow because I get my teeth cleaned.
Feeling better today. Weight the same as yesterday 154.8 lbs and FBG 98 and Ketone 1.3 and bp was 106/69 so all is good. Don't have any idea what the problem was yesterday, but thankful I feel better today. I'm so thankful that I will get my teeth cleaned this afternoon and find out if chemo caused any more cavities. I know I had one before treatment that still needs to be fixed and hope I can have that any others fixed before I start back on treatment. I figure my treatment will restart either at the end of July or the 1st of August which should give me plenty of time to get everything done before restarting.
I am liquid fasting now. I say liquid for lack of knowing what to call it. I had a cup of coffee with my SF creamer and collagen. I have stopped adding the fat. I don't know if I will help myself or not by doing that but I hope that by doing the Atkin's type low carb diet will be enough to help me. I just can't add unnecessary fat. I will choose to eat the fat that is in my food as Dr. Westman suggests, but I will not purposely add it.
I like the Atkins diet because when I did it before, it made it very easy for me to fast because when I was not hungry, I did not eat. There were so many times that I skipped meals.
I have an hour to wait while DH gets his teeth cleaned before I have mine cleaned. So I am taking my kindle to read Dr. Fung's The Cancer Code.
Have a great day everybody.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dental cleaning went very well. I only gained 1 new cavity while going through chemotherapy. I am happy to say that I will get this cavity and the one I had been told about before I learned I had the cancer done on July 29th.
Calories today were less than 900 calories and carbs a total of 30g net 22 g.

We are OK. I haven't been able to get on the forum for 2 days from my tablet. I came on the PC to pay bills and decided to check here, and I got right on here. I will have to see if my tablet needs to be reset. I can do everything else with it.
Our water is shut off for some reason. We didn't call to find out why, but I'm just hoping it comes back on soon.
My doctor appointment went OK. I think he was in a hurry so he didn't spend a lot of time talking about my bad lab work. He mentioned switching me to another diabetes med. I will look it up and see what I think. In the meantime he set me up for more blood work in Oct and I told him I think I can get back on track by then with diet and exercise..
Trish, I heard that sometimes on KETO your ketones can go down because you are burning them for fuel. So be aware of that.
Nothing else new. I hope I don't have to get on the PC every time. It's so much easier to just use the tablet.
Carol Sue I am so glad y'all are okay. I don't know why we have problems on some sites. It has gotten to where when I track a food on MFP that it shows up twice on some foods and I have to go back and erase one. Any way you know we wonder when we don't hear from each other when too many days go by.
I'm sorry your doctor always seems to be in a hurry. I think there are some good new diabetic meds out there if you can take them and afford them. I hope you will be able to find one.
It is true that exercise can affect ketone reading. Mine is good right now. I was surprised at how good it was when we had the KFC as it was 1.3 that day, but I think it was because I ate regular finger salad that day. It was actually up to 1.6 today and I'm excited about that. My FBG was 100 this morning. I watched Dr. Cywes for a few minutes and learned that I don't have to count calories or carbs doing keto as long as I eat protein and veggies but eat no sugar, potatoes, or grains. That sounds so simple. That is pretty much what Dr. Westman says. I can do that.
Weight was 153.2 and all my #s were great. Keto is working for me. I'm trying to get my exercises done today, tomorrow and Monday because I'm not supposed to exercise for a few days after eye surgery. I will have to ask surgeon if I can do HIIT exercises or not.
DH also found this lady Dr. Barbara O'Neill that explains how a lot of things even cancer works and how to deal with it. I read that people are getting heals by her woe etc. I watched what she said about salt and water and how it all works in our cells. I want to watch more of what she says.
I'm reading a book right now about a woman who had cancer. She went to a gynecologist for years trusting him to take care of her and he was not taking care of her at all. He knew she might have cancer but never pursued it. She knew something was wrong and went to a different doctor and found out she had cervical cancer. It turned out her gynecologist had the highest rate of patients having cervical cancer that could have been taken care of if caught earlier. That is very sad. Thankful I have good doctors.

Trish, HIIT is high intensity and I would think that would not be allowed after eye surgery.
I don't like what I'm reading about any of the new diabetes meds. Too many side effects. Diet and exercise with IF seems much better according to Dr Fung in Diabetes Code. It still doesn't sound familiar, like I never read it before
____________
Now I'm reading Obesity Code. None of it sounds familiar either. Maybe I have Altzheimers.
The main thing I got from it is that when you cut calories your metabolism slows down to compensate. I have heard that before, then I heard it was not true. But I tend to believe Dr Fung. This is where IF comes into play. You still eat your full calories during your eating window, preferably low, carb, but during the fasting period your glucose and insulin levels go down. And that's how Diabetes goes away, not with meds.
By the way,I got right on the forum without any problem. I was getting an error message earlier,so I don't know why that was since you were able to get on just fine.

I listened to videos of Dr. Barbara O'niell and learned so much from her that I bought her book. She is a vegetarian but does low carb using certain plant foods and nuts for protein. She even discusses why Dr. Atkins diet plan worked. She said it was because he based his diet on Fat, protein and fiber. That is what she does but does it as a vegetarian. I have no desire to be a vegetarian but I do find much of what she says makes sense.
Weight today was 154 lbs and I'm still in ketosis. I won't be checking it with blood draw much longer because they don't make my monitor any more and I cannot get the blood strips to test. What I ordered that I though was for the monitor is not. It is the strips that you pee on. So I will save them to use because I already have a new one I'm using out of.
Carol Sue I hope everything is going well with you today.

Im ok. Last night we went to the local casino. DH did well. I did not.
Today we went to Rodneys and I had wings.
I bought a ketone meter but never used it. I bought it because everyone else was buying one. Silly reason. I don't think I will ever be in ketosis or have a reason to be. Im glad its working for you.
Still reading Obesity Code. I really want to get back to a very short eating window. I need hunger pangs to feel right. Haven't had them in a xxx while.
Not much new for me. Weight was way up at the doctors but it always is. Still not weighing at home.
