We had a nice time and lots of good food at step sons.
Im very tired and have a headache so I'm going to bed. Ill post more tomorrow.
_______________
Boy is it hot and humid! I took the dog out and was surprised how hot it was at 8:00.
Yesterday step son grilled a variety of meat. Hot dogs and hamburgers, beef sausage, chicken breast, pork steaks. I ate 1 piece of chicken breast and 2 pork steaks. The chicken breasts were cut up, not a whole breast. DIL made a 3 bean salad that was delicious. It was more like 5 beans. I brought some home and I'm going to get her recipe. Step son has to eat high fiber since his bowl surgery. I never knew til yesterday the details of what he had done. Not fun. They told him he will probably have diarrhea for the rest of his life. So he takes Imodium and other meds, and eats a high fiber diet.
Ok, now we are going to senior day at Goodwill and Walmart.

Scale finally moved and I weighed 157.8 lbs this morning. FBG 113, Ketone 1.0 and BP 111/69.
Dr. Westman had the Dr. Eades on a video yesterday. I didn't realize that I have their newer book Protein Power Lifeplan. I obviously read it or at least part of it because I had things marked but back then I had no understanding of what they were saying. As I listened to them, I realize why Carnivore works. It's about the Protein. They say you need more protein as you age starting at the age of 30. If you have a health problem, they seem to believe eating more protein and less carbs are the answer good healrh and if you need healing a health problem. I wasn't able to hear all of the video because it was almost dinner time and DH isn't too happy when he gets my food ready and I'm doing something else. Plus I hit the wrong button intending to pause it and lost the whole thing.
According to the book at my height and weight I need to be eating 27 g protein at 3 meals a day for muscle mass. I am trying to plan my food today to be 27 g protein and carbs 10 g per meal. My calories today are less than 1300 calories and protein about 100 g and carbs total 20 g. I will try to keep the daily total carb between 20 and 30 grams.I had my usual eggs and avocado with breakfast sausage. Dinner will be skinless chicken that I will put cheese on and asparagus and then I will take a ground beef patty and divide it in half put a little bit of cheese between the 2 halves for a bunless cheeseburger. Hopefully this will help me move into a Protein Power/carnivore woe.
I finally got a message from the oncologist that I can have my cataract surgery. I have a eye appointment with the eye doctor Friday to see how we can get this going. So I hope to get that done within the next few weeks.
Carol Sue I'm glad you had a good visit with your step son and DGS. You sure had a lot of good protein to choose from. This is the way DH#2 and one of my DBIL used to cook. Wish I had known all this back then as we both would have been able to eat healthy.

Trish,I had that book at one time but may have donated it. I will have to look. I donated a lot of my diet books but did keep most of the low carb ones. I wish I could enjoy watching videos.
At Goodwill I bought a book, "Eat Like A Pig Run Like A Horse.". Its about exercising. For the most part my WOE is Protein and Vegetables, and I dont see a change coming. Im going to eat the way I want, but use IF. But I'm not exercising,so I need something that will push me in that direction. I believe that weight loss is done in the kitchen but fitness is done in the gym. But I need both! Im lacking in the physical department. I will also admit I'm not strictly following my preferred WOE but it is my intent. Pasta and potatoes and other carbs will be included from time to time, but I will try to do better.
For along time we were discouraged from eating a lot of meat. Remember the serving size the size of your palm or a deck of cards? Now we learn that meat can be very nutritious.
I
Step son has always been a big meat eater and Grandson is following his footsteps. There were 6 adults there plus grandson who eats like an adult. There was a lot of food left that they can take for lunches. Step daughter and hubby were also invited but declined. She said hubby was busy but they don't like to go there. Too far to drive. DH was annoyed that she didn't come.

Step daughter just called to say she won a new 4X4 pick up truck! They both needed new vehicles but didn't want to have 2 more payments. This will really help.

Im done with daily weighing for a while. It is never good and causes stress, which causes stress eating. I will weigh when I feel thin. That doesn't mean I am thin, just that I feel thin. On Sunday,I noticed that DIL and her mother both had a noticeable weight gain. So they probably noticed my gain, too. Step son has gained, too. Since I am so concerned about my weight I always notice other peoples weight, too.
I slept pretty good last night. I didn't check to see what Fitbit says, but thats just my opinion. Fitbit says 8 hrs 28 min, with a sleep score of 75. Thats ok. I feel a little tired, not too bad like before.
Carol Sue Some people do better weighing once a week or even once a month. I knew a woman on a low carb group I was on years ago only weighed when she went to the doctor and she did very well. Maybe you just need to find what works best for you. Everyone is different.
I listened to Dr. Westman again last night and he says his plan is what is called Dirty Lazy Keto which is the original low carb woe. He explained how you could take his one page food lists of what you can eat and foods to avoid and you don't have to check ketones or even track everything you eat. I found a copy of that popular sheet they call "page 4:" and made a copy to have in my purse for when I'm shopping and one I keep to use at home. I'm taking what he has shared and what I read in Protein Power along with the Eades' video that Dr. Westman shared and have made my plan. I was thrilled to learn that I do not have to add fat to my plan. They say there is enough fat in our food so we don't need to add oils to our diet plan. Plus they say that if you are trying to lose weight and you add fat to your food that you body will burn the fat you eat before it will use the stored fat that you are carrying on your body.
Weight down to 155.8 lbs, FBG 110, Ketone 1.0 and BP 118/69. So far this is working fine.
Well I guess the eye surgery will be going through as I got word today that my oncologist has faxed the letter to my ophthalmologist okaying the surgery. Nervous about having this done, but I will be glad when it is over. All these years I was healthy and once I hit 79 it has been crazy. And they call this the Golden Years. LOL Thankful to be alive.

We trapesed all over town today looking for car covers for DHs Camaro.. Finally got them at Ollies. I picked up prescriptions at Walmart. We had such a bad storm that his car covers ripped off the car from the wind. They were old, so tore easily.
I have Page 4 saved on my Tablet. Used to be everyone on the internet was talking about Page 4.
That book I bought at Goodwill is crap. Its not what I thought. I will end up donating it back. Its very hard for me to read because the font is so small. Thats why I like to read on my Kindle.

Step daughter just stopped to show us the new truck. Its very nice, and FREE! They had to go to the dealer to pick it up, and it was the place where she used to work where they laid her off. The sticker price of the truck was $51,000. The ticket she bought to win it was $78. I don't think I would buy ticket for $78. Way out of my price range. Step son once won $200,000 on the PA lottery. They both inherited the gambling gene from their Dad. I wish they would pass the winning streak to their Dad!

Scale at 179 this morning. Thats a true number in my opinion. I can't believe I weigh this much! I guess I'm just eating what and when I want and I should not be doing that. Right now I feel very hungry but I'm hoping the coffee takes my hunger. Sleep was ok last night. Good, but not great.
Im glad you can get your cataract done. Most people have no problem with it. I think I have one that needs to be done on my bad eye. I don't know if anything else can be done to help it.I need to make an appointment but I'm afraid of what they are going to do. DH says I read too much, but its something I really enjoy.
Fat is so contraversial. Some say you have to eat high fat to lose fat but it does make sense to limit fat to burn the fat you already have. I eat some fat as in butter which I didn't eat for a very long time. I actually think I was thinner when I didn't eat it. But there could be many other factors. For one thing I was exercising a lot, aerobically. I can't do as much now. Maybe if I got off my lazy butt and started doing something I would build my strength back up. I won't know until I try. I have all the needed equipment down in my exercise room. I just need to do it.
Well, I have finally hit that sweet spot where I am losing weight again. I am eating around 25 grams of carbs a day trying to eat the right amount of protein. Weight this morning was 154.8. I'm reading more and more information. All my #s are looking good again. I watched the video of the Drs. Eades and was impressed when they told what they would do if they ever had cancer. They say that they hope because they have always eaten low carb which for them is more protein and less carbs they will never have cancer, but if they did that they would eat the protein and fat and eat almost no carbs or as little as possible. Hearing their conversation helped me to understand the importance of protein and where carnivore has its place. Dr. Mike Eades said he does carnivore sometimes himself. She said they told their patients to eat meat, a salad and a green vegetable. That is pretty simple.
I read a report on a research done with a number of people with different kinds of cancers who did keto while having chemo and although it was a small test, it was helpful to the patients in so many different ways. They gave the reference so I can go in actually read the report. I will try to do that today. One of the things that caught my eye was how it seemed to lessen the side effects that usually goes with chemo treatments. I'm interested in that because I have to go back on therapy when they decide to restart it. Hopefully I will be on Keto Diet long enough to where I will have better results this next time.
Carol Sue DH, DS and DBIL have all had cataract surgery. DS was disappointed because she didn't have to wear glasses until after her surgery and now she has to wear reading glasses to read. It would be nice if I could out of this the same way. I told her I was nervous because I don't like anyone messing with my eyes. She said she felt that way too but they put you out just enough to where it isn't a problem. DH didn't sleep with the eye protection but I've already told him that I most certainly will wear it because I'm bad about rubbing my eyes. I'm blessed to have info of their experiences. DBIL was disappointed because he had a stigmatism and so he still has to wear glasses. So I know the questions to ask so I won't be disappointed.
That is exciting that you DSD won the new truck. What a blessing. I hope they can make the payment, but if they can't make the payment for some reason, they can always sell it. So it is a win-win for them.
I've got to the place to where I get sleepy around midnight and go to bed and am asleep almost as soon as my head hits the pillow. Then when I wake up around 8:30 am I wake up ready to get up. I would love to do carnivore for healing some things, but at this point will probably stay on the KD especially with eye surgery coming up.

Trish, step daughter won the truck free and clear. No payment. The taxes were also covered! We are hoping they sell his old truck and her car and get something for her. She has trouble getting up the driveway when it snows.
I used to fall asleep immediately but not anymore. DH goes to bed before me and has the tv on,I think that's why. When he finally turns off the tv he puts a light on. I don't know why. I used to get up first but now he does. I get up at 9 or so.
You can get a lens with your cataract surgery so you don't need glasses but I dont think insurance pays all of it. I rarely wear my glasses, and don't need them if I read on the Kindle. Everything is blurry out of my left eye but the right eye compensates. My eyes are very sensitive to the sun, or bright light such as Walmart.
I do hope the next cancer treatment goes well. I'm sure your diet will have a lot to do with it.
My niece in Texas texted me today. I think she is still in Texas. Im not sure why she reached out to me today, but this is the anniversary of her brother's death, and also my father, their grandfather. They never knew their grandfather but it was, weird that her brother died the same day but different year from their grandfather.

Carol Sue That is great that your Step-Daughter won the truck out right with nothing owed for it. It was nice for your niece to call you. She was probably missing everybody.
They say not to track everything and just watch the carbs. I didn't track everything because everything had so much sodium in it and I didn't want to see it in red. DH wanted hot dogs and as much as I like them they have way too much sodium. Plus they weren't very filling so all the protein I ate today were high sodium so it will be interesting to see how I do on this. I know people on KD push the sodium and I should be okay. Not sure how this will affect my weight tomorrow. I think I did eat within 7 hr eating window so that should be good.

Good sleep last night. I laid awake for a long time but once I fell asleep it was good. I feel rested. Haven't checked Fitbit yet.
The thing I like about tracking every bite is that it shows up on my Fitbit as calories in and Fitbit naturally tracks calories burned. I like to compare. But you get calories burned while you are sleeping because your body is always using calories, even just to breathe. I know if I would exercise I would have more calories. burned. My friend wanted to know if her Fitbit is waterproof because she wanted to know how many calories she burned taking a shower. So she is more anal than I am.😂. But she doesn't track calories eaten. Some are waterproof and can be worn swimming and others are just water resistant.
The carnivore dieters push salt and believe it is beneficial and actually necessary. But not table salt so much. Many of them use Redmond salt. They push meat, salt and water. There is actually a book about the benefits of salt. It's doctors who tell you to avoid it. The sodium in processed foods is different. They also push getting sun every day but doctors say avoid the sun.
Do you buy hotdogs with no nitrates? The nitrates are bad. We had a dog who would only eat hot dogs, and the next door neighbors dog ate only hot dogs, too. Both dogs died of cancer. I think it was from so much nitrates. But that was all they ate and they were so small. Humans are much bigger and eat other things besides hot dogs. But if you are eating for cancer prevention I would look for hot dogs with no nitrates. It says it on the front of the package. The hot dogs I prefer are terrible. Cheap Sugardale. But DH likes better ones, all beef, and I usually look for no nitrates. I prefer the taste of cheap hotdogs because I grew up eating them, but beef with no nitrates is better for you.
My niece still owns the house she lived in here. I think her step son lives there but if she would come back she would probably live there. They moved to Texas for her husbands job. They might come back if he retires. Her daughter is here with her family. Her other daughter is somewhere else with her Dad. Hubby has 3 sons. They are married with kids. They drove her ragged until she moved. She was constantly caring for all those grandkids. Maybe she will come back when the grandkids are grown.
When she was with first husband he cheated on her, divorced her and married the other woman. Long story short, niece met and married that woman's husband. So they just switched partners. It was the funniest thing when it happened. She ended up raising her 2 girls and his 3 boys. Moving to Texas gave her a break from all of them. I don't know how their life is in Texas with all the family still here.
___________
The book is The Salt Fix by Dr James Delanatonio, and I probably spelled his name wrong.

The diet works. I only gained .8 lbs from all the sodium. FBG is coming down again to 102 this morning. I was amazed that my bp was normal. I don't know if I still have Dr. Delanatonio's book or not. I've used the pink Redmund salt for years. My problem is that I forget to add salt to my food and have always been careful with it because I have to use Lasix. I am only taking the Lasix once a day. now that I'm back on KD. Checked ketones and it seems to stay at 1.0 which is supposed to be good. I do KD to be healthy and I read an article on a carnivore/keto group I found on FB who are fighting cancer that told of a research that was done recently and those who do KD while taking chemo do better. I hope to be into this woe as a lifestyle/habit so that when I start back on my chemo medicine that I will have better results on my next scan which should be in September if not before. I had a sweet text from DH DSIL who came to see us in May. She told me that she and her church are praying I will be cancer free when I have my next scan. She is definitely more like a sister to me than DH first wife's sister. I am blessed to have her as a prayer partner.
I don't worry about nitrates because I learned our body automatically makes nitrates and pharmaceuticals are working on making a bp medicine made with nitrates. As the doctor who shared the info said that he figures if our body makes it and they are using it to make a bp medicine that it couldn't be that bad. We don't eat hot dogs very often. Having said that I do insist on buying All meat or All beef whichever we can get because I want the protein.
I think it is sad that those dogs had to live on hot dogs. I just don't think that is good for anybody. I like eating the way Dr. Westman teaches because I can eat a variety of proteins. I think it is good if people can eat steak all the time but as he says not everybody can afford to eat grass-fed, organic etc so he doesn't push all the expensive foods that a lot of the online KD push. He says a lot of his patients couldn't eat this way if they had to eat that way. I watched a video of Dr. Berry's wife grocery shopping and she was at Walmart and she was buying foods that I buy because I can't or won't spend the money for the more expensive foods. I do the best I can and trust God to take care of the rest of it.
Drs. Eades said that the exercise we need to do eating this way is resistance exercises. I looked it up online and found that some of the exercises that I do are resistance exercises so I was thrilled to learn I don't need to add anything. I had just made up my own routine years ago and didn't really have a name for them I will just keep doing what I'm doing. I do about 35 minutes of resistance and about 25 minutes of others... the 10 minutes of vibrating and 15 minutes on the recumbent bike giving me a total of 1 hr exercises 4 or 5 days a week.
I hear y'all are having record high temps for y'all. Hope you can stay cool. We are starting to get inthe 90s now. We have been blessed not to have them until now. I've seen the time when we had higher in May. Won't be long until we will start hitting 3 digit numbers. Just hope it won't last too long.

We have been doing in the 90s for A few days and it is supposed to continue for A few more days. We are just hoping there's not a power outage. We moved in here with no air condition because we don't get a lot of days above 90. We got it in the mid 80s and had it replaced 2 years go. We are not used to this hot weather here.
The dogs would not eat anything but hot dogs. No dog food. It was unusual and strange that we lived next door and the dogs were similar. We didn't think the hot dogs would hurt them. That taught me something.
I do not like beef enough to eat it all the time. I like pork and chicken. An occasional steak. I never had a hot dog that was not meat but I dont particularly like all beef. But I buy it for DH so I eat one now and then. I am a little leary of the nitrates in processed meat.
I cook with salt but don't add it to my food except on eggs but not much else. When I met DH he picked up the salt shaker and salted all his food before tasting. Now that he has high blood pressure he doesn't always do that. Sometimes when he cooks my breakfast I can taste too much salt even though I tell him not to put salt on it. Its just his habit. He tells me not to cook with salt but to let everyone put their own salt on. But the salt that cooks into the food tastes better and is less harmful I think.
I bought Himalayan pink salt but I need a grinder. I never bought Redmond. DH insists on Morton table salt.
I am cooking dinner again. Chicken tenderloins with mushroom soup and home fries on top, baked in the oven. I love that. It calls for cream of chicken soup but I was out. I will find a vegetable .
Read some more from Dr. Tan's The Keto Code for Cancer on the research done with mice, The milk I drink is lactose free, but it is still milk sugar so I have to give up milk. I told DH that I should just do carnivore and forget carbs altogether although I am allowed to eat between 0 - 20 total grams of carbs.
Carol Sue I'm not sure that I trust everything that the FDA approves of because I'm not sure you can trust everything labels say on the foods we eat and drink. But then we have to do the best we can,
I did see that according to the research in Dr. Tan's book there were some tests that show that there were some tests showed short time there wasn't much happening but the longer they did low carb, the better things started working and continued to work
We will go to the store when we leave the eye doctor's office, but I probably won't get to shop because my eyes will be dilated and I'm not sure how steady I will be so I have a list for DH to get what I want.
