What is the difference in a chicken and a hen. I thought all chickens were hens. And a male was a rooster.
We had pizza for dinner. Thats what DH wanted. I didn't care as long as I didn't have to go out.
The little boy next door who had leukemia is now clean. They have a sign in their yard 'Willy rang the bell!". They also have a 3 year old daughter and she told us today she is pregnant again with another boy. DH thinks they are moving because they are fixing up the house. I hope not. He is afraid of who might move in. We had a bad neighbor once before.
I don't care because I just stay to myself.

Carol Sue I've never thought about it but I think most chickens male or female can be killed at a certain age to meat, but hens usually means laying hens used just for eggs. DH#2 grandmother they get too old and their meat is tough. I'll let you know how it turns out tomorrow.
DH and I have been hungry all day. I think we are just extra tired from having to get up so early this morning.
I am definitely tired tonight and will sleep good. We are watching one of the Star Wars movies and then I'm going to bed.
Goodnight.

Trish, how can you tell that the chicken DH bought is a hen? What I see in stores is either a frying chicken or a roasting chicken. Fryers are smaller and I usually buy the smallest one I can get. Roasters are noticeably bigger. Online it says that stewing chickens are the biggest and are usually layers. I never see chickens labeled as stewing chickens. I buy small frying chickens because that's what my mother always bought.
Once again I slept poorly. I woke up early and couldn't fall back to sleep. And I'm still not getting a nap like I used to.
-
Carol Sue I have always bought or raised fryers because I can get the size a want around 3 to 4 lbs. I never bought the bigger ones because I've heard they were tough which might not be true. DH#2 DGM was the one who taught me a lot about how I cook. I married DH#2 who had 3 kids and I had to learn to cook good meals cheap. DH#2 used to say I could get more meals out of one chicken. I could never do that now as I can't remember all of it, but she learned how to feed her girls during the depression and she taught me. I assume what she called a laying hen is what they call a roasting chicken today. Country people talked different back then. I raised 200 baby chicks twice in the country. You got one or two good roosters out of the 200 but the rest were either egg layers or for meat. DH#2 only raised them to a number of weeks (don't remember what that was) and then we had a Saturday when we called all of them and put them in the freezer or gave some away. They were nothing like what you bought from a store they were so delicious.
Starting back to eating low carb today although yesterday was crazy. I am thinking of eating only a salad or a low carb veggie and protein. I am reading a book I bought on carnivore eating that seems to be people who can eat clean food getting rid of toxins on or in the food which to me is very expensive and a lot of work I don't have the interest in cooking everything from scratch at my age.
It is amazing how clear I see now. It is like oldest step-son said that he didn't know how bad he could see until he had his cataract surgery and was able to see. If you think you need surgery, I would say have it. I think your insurance is better than mine and it cost me $500 to have both eyes done and the drops were $60 total. Don't be afraid of it. It was not bad at all.
Chicken is in the oven. They raise such big chickens these days so this might just be a big chicken. I look forward to having it for snacks as well as a meal.
I do love my eggs and bacon/sausage and I am having my bacon and eggs this morning. I forgot to use the avocado and not sure it is any good. I'm tired of them right now. Will decide when we go to the store again if I want to eat them any more. I can have them on Adkins but I don't have to eat them. Today I will have chicken and green beans.
Have a good day everybody.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Chicken was very good and we will have at least 2 or 3 more meals. Except for rhe keto ice cream DH got me, today was mostly protein.

Good sleep last night. I slept more than 8 hours. It took a while to fall asleep but once I did I only got up for the bathroom once. I got up at 9 am and feel rested. Finally. I took Benadryl and Tylenol, which is what is in Tylenol PM.
I'm so glad your are seeing well, Trish. I don't know for sure if I need cataract surgery or something else but if I need it I will do it. I just have to get myself to make the appointment. Mostly I am afraid of getting shots in my eye but if other people can do it,so can I.
I hope your chicken was good and you have some for leftovers.
-
-
Carol Sue I didn't get any shots in my eyes. They use eye drops to deaden the eye and that was the worst part as they do burn at first but it doesn't last long. I guess they do have to make a slit for the lens they put in, but you don't feel it because they give you an IV of something to keep you calm. Whatever it was, it sure made me sleep most of the day. In fact, I had to sign a piece of paper stating that I was not supposed to make any major decisions or sign any documents etc once they gave me that medicine.
The chicken turned out very good. We will have some more of it today and then I will make chicken salad out of the rest of it. I only have 2 meals planned today and calories less than 1200 and very low carb. I think it was less than 10 carbs. Carnivore breakfast and keto dinner.
I think a lot of my walking problems was caused from the cataracts, because I have been walking without the walker today. I walk too slow without the walker so I am switching to my cane. I wanted to go to a birthday party for my nephews wife that I haven't met yet, but I can't wear make up yet so I wrote and told her we can't make it Monday evening. I won't be able to wear make up until I go to see the oncologist on the 25th.
Carol Sue I'm glad you are able to sleep with the Benadryl and Tylenol. I'm not having to take anything to help me sleep. I do get up a couple of times during the night to go to the bathroom, but I fall right back to sleep as soon as I get back into bed.
Have a nice day everyone.
-
Trish, I used to sleep like you do but recently I've had trouble. I slept good the first couple times I took Benadryl but then I think I became immune to it. I was also taking the Benadryl for my runny nose. It just didn't help me sleep anymore so I didn't take it for a few days until last night. I want to sleep without anything. For a long time Tylenol helped me sleep but I thought I was getting dependent on it so I stopped. I really wish I could nap again. That was perfect for me. Maybe its because I used to get up at 5-6 am and read. I stopped doing that because the dog wanted to go out and I don't like to let him out until its light out. DH will go out with him and I won't. Its better if I get up later.
Trish,I very rarely wear make up anymore. I haven't worn eye make up for 10-15 years. DH q wants me to wear it but I can't see where in putting it so I only wear some powder and blush.and not often.. Take me as I am. 😋
I don't know, what we're eating today. Im tired of eating or deciding what to eat. I tell DH."Pretend I died. What would you eat?"
-
Well,,exciting day here in PA yesterday. DH joked about going to the Trump rally since it was so close but I wouldn't have gone. I stay away from crowded places like that. Im glad he is ok but sorry that attempt on his life even happened. The suspect was a young man from about 10 miles away. What was he thinking?
I slept well last night and feel good today. We both got up at 9am.
-
Carol Sue It just shows how crazy things are these days.
I slept really good and woke up around 7:30 am and decided it was too early and went back to bed. Wish I hadn't gone back to bed because I've felt run down ever since then. I needed to sleep longer but I had to get up because I call and talk to my DS and DIL on Sunday morning. I ate only 2 meals today and I'm going to try make it this a 2MAD. I have got to start doing this sometime and it may as well be today.
I'm glad you are feeling good today.
-
I agree about you starting 2MAD today. No time like the present!.
Im wondering if I go back to getting up early maybe I can go back to my nap in the afternoon. I just hate when I know Rusty needs to go out and its still dark out. My sleep has been off ever since I had my heart procedure. I have to get my diet back on track, too.
Today I was reading about Dr Gundry. He recommends eating avocado every day because it is just fat and fiber. I might start earing them again. I also want to start eating the 5 bean salad that DIL made. I bought all the ingredients but I have to have room in my fridge for it. I will clean out my fridge after we get home from Goodwill tomorrow. On Tuesday I will do laundry and get back to exercising while the washer is running. I have to stop sitting so much. I know I say this all the time and sound like a broken record. I bought that new exercise machine and only used it twice. The seat needs to be adjusted for me and DH has to help me. He was using it and has it set for him and hes much taller than I am. Once I know how to adjust it I can do it myself. The one at cardiac rehab was easy to adjust and they always did it for me.
DH went to bed so I will take my pills and join him.

Im going to say a bad word. @#$&%?!. Our water is off again. I dont know, what they are doing down the street but I guess we are going to be without water off and on until they are done, with no warning. They probably think we are at work all day but this is a senior community. So much for doing laundry today! Can't take a shower either. Or wash my hair.
We,went to Goodwill and Walmart. DH wanted vegetable soup over the weekend but he told me too late. It was too late to start it. I will make it tomorrow when I can start it early.
Hope you are ok,Trish. 💕

Carol Sue I am so sorry your water is off. I really don't understand why they don't let us know what they are doing and you just get up to no water or electricity.
I am feeling a little better today. I have decided to add some carbs to my eating plan. I think I need more carbs in order to have more strength. Not going to go nuts with it but I am seeing more people are doing what they call keto/low carb but eat more carbs even up to 50 to 100 g. I actually have a net of 59 g planned for today and had a 1 egg/1 sl sausage homemade mcmuffin with cheese along with a c of coffee with collagen. I plan to have a pork chop loin with salad and broccoli for dinner.
Weight was 154.4 lbs this morning and BS was 100. I definitely want to do my best to keep my weight in the 150s and FBG around or below 100. I think keeping my carbs low will be able to help me do this. The main thing is that I want to enjoy what life I have left and I do not want to spend it dragging a round with no energy. I too will be glad when I can get back to exercising again next week. I think that will help me feel better too.
Have a good day.
-
Im glad you are feeling better Trish. My carbs, are usually around 100 or slightly above. Im not watching as closely as I did.
I have been so hot all day. I wore long jeans when we went out because we had no water and I could not take a shower or shave my legs. I should have changed clothes when we got home but the air condition is on but I'm still hot.
The water is back on so I will take a shower and put my nightgown on soon. I was hungry for A pork chop but DH went to McDonalds and brought home chicken nuggets. I don't like them anymore so I made an egg sandwich.
Lately I have been having a hard time opening a bottle of water. I give it to DH and he opens it for me. At Goodwill,he bought this set of bar utensils that contained a corkscrew and another gadget that take a screw top off a bottle. It works, well, but I turn it clockwise and it should be turned counter-clockwise.. I will have to get used to it. Part of the problem is I squeeze the bottle too tight and when I take the lid off the water comes out everywhere. I already have a utensil under my kitchen cupboard for opening jars. That is very helpful. I just can't use my hands very well. I need to exercise thdm to limber them up. Getting old is not for sissies.
-
Carol Sue I've often said that growing old isn't for sissies. We go through a lot to live the life we live as we get older. I've been having problems with my hands too especially my left hand. I need to remember to exercise my hands every day. I try to do it every day but need to do it several times a day.
Well, I've been having potty issues again and while reading a book on Carnivore for Beginners, I've found that I am experiencing these problems because I cannot handle a high fat woe. So while I probably can do a low fat/low carb woe, I can't eat a lot of fat. I don't think carnivore is for me. So I will go back to doing a lower fat/low carb eating plan.
Going to bed soon.
-
I have to go back to daily weighing. 182 today. Eating is out of control. I need to stop eating when not hungry.
I took my Fitbit off during the night because the band has been making my wrist itchy. So I only got a record of 2 hours sleep, even though I know I slept longer than that. I had a complex dream about work. I don't know why I dream so often that I'm at work. I've been retired for 14 years.otherwise,I enjoy retirement. I can't imagine having to get up early every day.
I want to take a shower but what if I get all soapy and they turn the water off? Also, what if someone starts washing clothes and they shut the water off in the middle of a load? I understand it would be hard to notify so many households. DH has been using bottled water to make a pot of coffee .
I remember when I was a little girl the old man next door would be holding small rubber balls and squeezing them. I remember wanting those balls to play with. Apparently he was exercising his hands, for arthritis or just for strength. I don't know how old he was but to a 5 year old he looked very old. There are just certain things I can't do and the one I notice most is opening the cap on bottled water. My hands don't hurt, I just have no strength. My father used to have these. hand held gadgets that he squeezed for hand strength.
I also have trouble eating high fat. I just don't do it. I don't think its entirely necessary. Many doctors say high fat is not needed if you have fat to lose. That makes sense to me. I don't really know if it causes my potty issues. I still have them off and on.
