Hi all! Welcome to the newbies!
I did one hour today with wii fit. I did advanced steps and free steps. I have had a cold and this is the first exercise I could do for a couple of days. I read those reviews of the Jillian wii game and I decided to wait for more word also. People were saying that it didn't register your moves and that would frustrate the heck out of me! I think our friend fullofgrace has it....I am waiting to hear from her what she thinks. Ok...see you all later... |
While I have the Wii Fit I have not opened it yet. Part of me wants to bust it open now, now, now and the momma part of me says wrap it up and set it under the tree for the whole family.
arrrrrgh! |
OHHHHH Wickedcrafty!! You poor thing! How frustrating! Did you get it as a Christmas present? I think that would be too tempting for me. Then again...you will be soooo excited Christmas morning to put that sucker in!
HMMMMM...What will she do? Inquiring (chic) minds want to know. |
Poor Wickedcrafty....only 21 days to go! I do understand your dilemma. Let us know what you decide.

I'm now alternating my regular Wii Fit workout with the Jillian Michaels' 2009 Fitness Ultimatum, which I LOVE. When I'm doing Wii Fit, it's about ten minutes of balance and 50 minutes of aerobics. Usually boxing and step class for the cardio. My best balance games are table tilt, soccer head, and the penguin on ice thing. :D Love that one. It always makes me giggle. Quote:

I think the issue with "registering the moves" comes from how very precise some of the exercises force you to be. There's a combination of balance on the board and hand movements with the remotes (one in each hand) required to "trigger" a score on some of the exercises. So if you're not really coordinated, and end up getting the balance right on the board but your hands are "off," I could see being frustrated that you're not getting credit for the moves. But it just takes practice, like the Wii Fit itself does (or did, back when we first got started with it). Definitely, there is more precision required in the Jillian exercises. The casual "shift of weight" on the board isn't enough to cause a major sway like in, for instance, soccer head on the Wii Fit. You REALLY have to change where the pressure is coming from when you move around on the kickboxing or monkey bars, with Jillian. But without question, it's a "harder" workout. Even on the LIGHT setting, the exercises are harder and the sweat is for real. There's two to three minutes of "jogging" between each of the stations where you do stuff like run through tires, row a boat, jump logs, throw paint grenades, move through the monkey bars, kickbox, pump a rail car, etc. My only complaint thus far has been about the music. One of the things I love about Dance Dance Revolution is that you can choose the music that's most inspiring for you to use in a workout. Well, on Jillian, I couldn't figure out how to do that, so I was stuck listening to whatever song came on next, and in a half-hour workout, that meant about four songs I *really* didn't like. Stuff that made me want to shut off the dang thing--NOT work out. (And no, I couldn't just mute the volume, because I'm still too new at this to feel confident about the exercises without Jillian's audio instructions and reminders about keeping shoulders back, butt tucked, etc.) BUT! Today my husband realized during HIS workout that you just have to press the right side of the four-sided plus-shaped key at the top of the remote when a song you don't like comes on. It automatically skips to the next song that way. Woo hoo! I am now REALLY, totally pleased with Jillian's program. There is ONE exercise I'm reeeeeeeeeeally bad at, but I figure we all have our strengths and weaknesses, so I just don't stress about it. Maybe I'll get better at it... and if I don't, oh well, it's only TWO MINUTES out of my entire workout, because she changes up the stations between each "jog" section of the workout. Quote:
Heh, heh. Just kidding. I'm sure everyone would love to have it and play with it NOW if you chose to do that. But you'll be glad to have it whenever you unwrap it. ;) At least, if you're anything like me! I've loved having my Wii Fit since July. It really has changed my life for the better. Hope everyone has a great "rest of the weekend" and has good progress to share in the weeks ahead. I know it's tough to keep at it when the holidays come around, but I use that as motivation to keep at it--even step it up a bit--so that when I see everyone at gatherings or parties, I look even better than the last time they saw me. :D Yay, all of us! Let's keep it going!! :goodscale Step on! :goodscale Great! :goodscale All done! |
Thanks Fullofgrace!!!
It sounds awesome...Now I want it on my Christmas list. I hope it is not too late. I am still doing the advanced steps, boxing, and free steps. I have to do more of the strength training. I can't do too much of the hoola hoops yet...they exhaust me!! I just add a couple into my routine. Have a wiiiiiiiii wonderful day! |
I just bought mine over the weekend & am about to go start my workout. I have been using regular wii sports & doing the boxing on it & my arms were totally sore the next day so I am looking forward to what the wii fit will do for me. I was actually hoping (when I first heard about it) that the wii fit would incorporate exercise into a game like Mario where you would be the character & do all the running, jumping, fighting, etc. I'm hoping that is in the future for the console. That would be a really fun way to work out.

Hattie~ We won't even be in our own home for xmas, so I wont be able to use it then either!
Smiles 4 u and Full of grace~ I have seriously considered whipping it out and fully using it while the kids are at school during the day! I don't even think anyone knows that I bought it. The Wii stays in our room since hub and I decided that the kids would prolly break it like they do every other game system they have. Not sure I have enough room in our bedroom to use it though, which means I would also have to move the wii to another tv. UGH! :) |
Hello,
This is my first post ever. I am in the same predicament as Wicked Crafty, the new Wii is a Christmas present for the whole family and still in it's new box. I am still looking to purchase Wii Fit but having a hard time finding it. I am glad you all are finding it to be so beneficial. |

Hi Folks. Grace, I found it!
I found mine at a Blockbuster video store. Some of ours in this area have video game sales annexes (not used...real stores). Same price as what you can get them for at GameStops or anywhere else. But fewer people know about them, so they may have them in stock. Glad to see this thread! I'm also envious that any of you are good at the soccer thing. I manage to hit everything except the ball. I swear I have cleat marks on my head:o. -Kathy |
I'm Overweight
I'm so excited! :carrot:
After four years "obese," I am now officially "overweight!" Yay!!!!!!!! My lovely Wii Fit tells me I now have a BMI of 29.90 and that means I've reached my year-end goal of saying good-bye to obesity in 2008. Yippee!!!!!! This has been an amazing journey! I now weigh 191.8 and hope to hit the 180s before 2009 begins (seems reasonable, even with holiday yummies and parties and less time to exercise right now). Still hoping to hit 170 before calling it "done," but I certainly know I will continue to be a work in progress, and that means never REALLY being done. :) Just had to share with you wonderful people! Happy Wii Fit! Happy Holidays! |
I have to say that it must've been "meant to be" for me to read your posts today! I've been so disappointed in myself for the past 8 months or so. I had started successfully losing weight for the FIRST time in January...it was slow going, but in 3 months, I had eventually lost 20 pounds through exercise and eating right (well, better). Then I got a cold, then busy at work, then the grass started growing, etc..(anything was an excuse, you see) - and as of now, have gained BACK 15 of those hard lost 20 pounds. I'm almost right back where I was a year ago.
So I bought myself the WiiFit and console for motivation, and the first 2 or 3 days were great. Loved it. Worked muscles I forgot I had. Then....I got a cold, got busy at work, you get the pattern..LOL.... Today I'm browsing through 3FC and find the latest post by fullofgrace..and ended up reading ALL of the posts here in WiiFit, as well as your blog, Grace. I think it (hopefully) jumpstarted a return to taking responsibility for myself, and not letting outside forces be my influence. I just got off the Wii (and OMG the horrible things that the voice told me!!!) but I spent almost an hour doing yoga, balance, and aerobics. I did 914 steps in 10 minutes - would have been 1000, but I "stepped" into the kitchen long enough to grab a bottle of water! I'd love to see progress pics from anyone who credits the Wii for at least being a helpful part of the weight loss process. If I ever MAKE any progress again, I will post some myself! Please count me in on your Wii 'fan club' - and thank you all for the much needed motivation today!! |

I'm glad what you read today was the "shot in the arm" you needed. It's so important to have regular, ongoing reinforcement for tough things like attempts to lose weight or better ourselves or reach career goals or anything!! :) That's why I love this forum. It's always here when I need a reminder or a boost! Quote:
Hee! Welcome to the Wii Fit Challenge thread! Let's have fun! Woo! |
Hi All, after reading almost all the posts, I wanna use my wii fit and I have to wait for the Giant/Cowboy game to end! I had to buy the Direct TV Football Package - what was I thinking! lol! Anyway, tonight I pledge one hour of Fit. Very excited!:carrot:
