I'm sorry that it upset me so much, but if the mentality "just do it" actually worked, this board wouldn't need to exist. We could delete the entire "dieting with obstacles" or "dieting with depression" threads, and just replace them with a big "just do it" banner. (I kid.)

What I had wanted to know was how other people got over slumps. When I'm told that other people "just do it", that made me feel like I'm the only freakin' person out here who can't seem to! I guess Ilene's comment wasn't meant to be harsh, but I don't generally do well with being told to stop feeling sorry for myself. I wasn't trying to whine or sound like "poor me I'm broke and can't afford a gym so I can't exercise". I was just replying to AngelEyes when she made a suggestion regarding a gym. My point was that I'm so damn unmotivated that I won't even use the equipment that's 10 feet away from me. That SUCKS to feel that way.

This morning I am very glad to read that there are other posters like me who seem to be stuck and just keep trudging on, or at least go on hoping to get on the wagon again. I very much appreciate the honesty. It's true - I have to remind myself of why I started this in the first place. I did take "before" pictures and I guess it makes me angry that I still look like them! *sigh* But, I'm going to try to have renewed faith. A friend of mine wrote and reminded me as well - you don't want to be at the doctor one day and hear "you have heart disease" or "you are now diabetic" and know that you could have done something *now* to change that future. (Diabetes and heart disease as well as a couple forms of cancer run in my family - lucky me!)

So, today when I hear french fries or burgers calling my name, I'll just try to imagine being at the doctor hearing that news. Maybe that will be enough to get me through a few junk food challenges.

As for the exercise... I don't know if Jillian, in person, herself could yell at me loud enough to get me off my butt sometimes! I think I will reread the book, though, as was suggested.

Thank you guys for being supportive, and I'm sorry if I took the original words a bit harshly.

P.S. Oddly enough, the scale says I'm down a pound. Whodda thunk???

Well....I know what you mean. Sometimes it just isn't there for you and other times you are super motivated. You just have to hang on for the wild ride. Sometimes little bon mots like "fake it 'til you make it" have helped me. Which, by the way, is exactly where I am today. Heavy house work after a day of heavy leaf raking - I aint' doin' that workout today. My knee is gimpy, I have plans for tomorrow. I am officially announcing plan b. Something today , like 20 minutes of stretching. Kayaking tomorrow. Party hard on Friday, Saturday reevalute the situation.

Smartbutt...... All those posts must have felt overwhelming!!! When I was saying...just do it, its because I have to say that to MYSELF each and every day!! I don't give myself a chance NOT to go to the gym(workout).... as as soon as I get out of bed,....I dress in my gym clothes!! Then I am constantly reminded that I have to do it because of the reminder of wearing my clothes. I didn't realize that you worked out at home. Sort of like just starting to work from home and you are tempted to watch tv and not work. SORRY!!

Lets see.....what about if you set aside the same time each day (ie..pencil in your workout on calendar) and put on the fridge. Then you would be reminded about working out and possibly make better food choices.

Another tip I do,....is to have a binder with alot of success stories and motivational articles. I could almost recite these off by heart but they do the trick.

I like your before and after picture idea, but with me....its taking along time to get the after!! But you could set mini non-food goals. Lose 5 lbs and buy some new polish. Complete 5 workouts and buy a new weight loss magazine. Would that work?

I really am rooting for you!!! I 've been there soooo many times but you've honestly got to just start small and then build on your successes!!! YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!

Hey girls......Last night I took the boys to a buffet restaurant since dh was away and I was amazed at how high many of the customers were piling their plates!!! And although some of them were with salad....you can bet that they were'nt low calorie and or healthy!!! I did good with the main course, simple fresh green salad with low cal ranch, steamed green beans/steamed carrots/roast chicken breast without skin, and then since I ate really well,.....I had a pc of carrot cake and a small serving of icecream. Not too bad considering what was available. The cake put me over for the day by 65 calories, so I'm okay with that and back to a good OP day. Later on today after church, we've got a gingerbread decorating party to go to. I've been told to bring some hor'deuve cocktail foods, so who know's what we'll be eating. I'll have something to eat before I go just in case. Talk about strategic planning!!! Hope everyone is doing well.....STAY OP!!!! WE CAN DO THIS!!!!

I finally got my Biggest Loser workout DVD and boy do I love it. It is awesome. I really think if I do it the recommended 6 days a week I won't need to do any other kind of exercise. It has several different workouts. It has low intensity, strenth training, high intensity, and boot camp. It has a set 6 week scheduled workout or you can customize your own plan.

It really was a fantastic buy. The book is awesome as well. 2 1/2 weeks on the diet and I am down 6 pounds. I even refused ice cream when we had friends over last night. I can't believe I resisted. I usually always give in. Everyone was sitting around me eating yummy smelling peanut butter panic, my favorite. But, I just had a diet soda and enjoyed the smell and imagined exactly how good it tasted without ever having a bite.

That is a huge accomplishment for me. Well, I'm off to work out. Hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday.

Good job teacherlady! It takes a lot of strength to say no to your favorite sweets, especially if they are right in front of you!

You deserve a dancing carrot for that.

Default Resisting temptations!

To help myself resist eating when i shouldn't i have a picture of jillian on my fridge!
She's standing with hands on hips with a "GET OUT OF THE FRIDGE" look on her face!
This is what i use to remind myself:
1. Are you hungry?
2. When was the last time you ate?

Well it works for me anyway!

Thumbs up You guys are awesome!

I wish I had been called in as a last minute replacement for the show but alas it doesn't seem it was meant to be. But when I saw Chick in a hat threaten to come over here to find me I considered not posting for a while longer just to get you all over here. Actually I've just been swamped with christmas preparations and birthdays, our family seems to have a lot of December birthdays.

The support for Smart Butt brought tears to my eyes, you guys rock!

And SB, I KNOW! Believe me I know! I think the little lion on my ticker has probably moved towards the left don't really want to know but I feel I need to kick him in the butt and tell him to about face. I've been telling myself to Just Do It for sooooo many years and I continually seem to Just Fail. I'm at a loss. I haven't given up and keep planning to try try and try again but I'm just not sure what's going to make the difference. I was hoping the accountability of being on the BL show in front of a nationwide audience would be enough insentive but my goodness imagine if it wasn't. I felt extremely sorry for Kathrine and Nick, what a tough spot to be in.

All I do know is that once I finally beat this demon I'm going to devote a big part of myself to helping others win the fight as well. Have you all been in an embarrasing situation because of your weight or been called names or overheard hurtful comments only to have all the muscles in your back tense up and think well I deserve that for allowing myself to be this way. No one should have to waste years living like that. It's such a waste!

Hey teacher lady, you're a star. Sounds like your doing an awesome job. Keep posting the resisting temptation stories that was great.

Hi Charles. Nice to get a little testosterone in here.

Hey guys if you haven't done so yet check out Charles page. Absolute champion!

I think I need a photo of Jillian on my fridge, and maybe one on each of the kitchen cupboards and maybe one at the grocery store, I'll balance it on my trolley. Good idea. Put the food down!

Welcome back dancing vegies

Hi all,

You know that charity auction they had for the Biggest Loser? I bid on an won a 11X17 signed picture of all the cast and the trainers. I found that show so inspirational. I can't wait for next season.

I will take a picture of me and Katy with the picture when it comes in.
