I’ve decided to set monthly goals to help me take some of the daunting nature of losing 150 lbs. From my lifetime of dieting I know that not all victories occur on a scale. I will be making goals for fitting into clothing I couldn’t fit before or dealing with some challenging aspects of what’s failed me before. I don’t consider IP a “diet” of sorts but more of the beginning of the retraining of my body.

Likewise, my body retraining goals should follow the S.M.A.R.T. model for goals:

In the past I always wanted to lose weight. Now. Like right this second. Although it took me years to grow into this body I wanted the weight gone in an instant… not even willing to wait overnight. Then when my weight didn’t disappear in an instant I would get disappointed which would make me upset and I would ease that pain at the bottom of a pint of Ben & Jerry’s. Ah, the cycle continues.

I’m not going to stress over the entire amount I want to lose but on smaller more manageable goals that will make this process a lot easier for me… and for everyone around me as well.

October 2012 Goal

Drink a minimum of 64 oz of water per day – Now, I’m not much of a water drinker and even less of a water-liker but I have to because it really is integral to losing weight and just being healthy. Even though I feel better when I do start a water regimen it’s always hard for me to get to a good water place and to keep a good water place.  Since this is the beginning of IP I’m going to let this be my first goal. If I can make water drinking my habit then hopefully this will set a solid foundation for me. RESULTS: I would love to say that it was perfect or that I liked it but neither of those would be true. I didn’t drink the requisite amount of water twice. Not perfect but FAR from where my dehydrated behind began. Considering it a victory but I will continue in November.

November 2012 Goals

Continue drinking minimum of 64 oz of water per day AND

Take my vitamins at the proper times everyday – This has been a challenge. I need to set a better routine with my supplements and not take them all at once (I know, horrible).
