Hello everyone.
First things first: JOLLY! WAY TO GO!!!
Great job. I hope you are feeling better this week. A similar situation for my Mom, by the way. (what happened to your dad)
Surf: I like the rain, just seems like it's either feast or famine around here.
Fish, congrats on the raise! That must feel great! Now you can do even more bargin hunting. I love hearing about your NY adventures. My office used to be on 5th and 30th. I would walk like a maniac on my lunch break, sometimes down to Union Square or Chelsea (sp?). Fun.
Red, I hope your work situaton worked out...crunch crunch crunch...
Hello to everyone else, I'm starting to run out of time...
One more thing, I am joining the rather large group of restarters. I've exercised a bit but not enough to meet the challenge. So I start again today.....
where does the wekend go... woooosh .. Today is a pause day for me... so its still day 10.. I have been having some problems with my blood sugar.. (way too low) so had to try to eat a bit more today.. calories were still on program... but my carbs were 84 ...
Thanks all for the kudos, and congrats to everyone for their challenge and personal successes! You rock
I did start thinking about soda again, and was going to go get a diet/decaf - but preservered and had water. I am more craving as I know I am starting the no on Wednesday.( No, I am not Catholic, but it seemed like a fitting start.) However, the open hole where the temp filling for my root canal came out is a good deterent to a lot of sweets
OK. So here are the two challenges:
1. Follow the menu, making sure I get in 3 servings each of fruits and veggies. Same rules apply as far as switching meals and/or substituting salads - level 3.
2. Measure all breakfasts and snacks - need either portion size or calorie count. Level 2. OK - I realize I am starting this one out slow. But I have never been very good at this, and want to get in the habit. I do a lot of work/business lunches, which is why I didn't throw that in quite yet.
Day one - complete! Have a super night all
Oh yeah - I forgot I weighed in this morning (didn't count last week as I was at the gym at totally different times), and have lost 2.5 more pounds. I am not meeting my 2 pound average loss hope, but am going back down.
dont fret jolly...the slower it comes off ... the longer it stays off..
i am really happy that i got off the soda... occasionally i will have a diet one.. like maybe 1 every 2 weeks.. but it really is true what they say about the water making your skin look so much better!
Thanks, Curly. I know, I am just happy the scale is moving down and want to keep iit that way. I got my taxes back last week and splurged on new workout clothes. It was supposed to be a reward for reaching a certain weight, but I didn't think the clothes I had would last that long I even made myself get hip length t-shirts, instead of mens XXXLs that went to my knees and could almost fit two of ME!
Off to the gym(hopefully - the soup I made last night had cabbage. 'Nuf said) and to work. Have a great day all.
I just sat down to write, but then remembered I hadn't done my crunches yet, so I got up and (then down) and did them! Hurrah! Day 4 in the bag!
Danzer -- Congrats on Day 1. Glad you liked the quote. I am getting to like it even more than when I first heard it. Makes you keep going and not rest on your laurels, which is always a dangerous thing.
curly -- So you're still staying off soda? That's great. Actually, I have found that I have gone off coffee much more than before. Don't know why, but I am for now. Still drink it in the morning but almost never later in the day. Saves on money too as I was getting into a Tullys cafe latte habit!
jolly -- Good going on that soda save. That's right, I had forgotten about Lent. Would be a good time to start another challenge. Hmm. I'm thinking I'll start up the journaling tomorrow again, but force myself to analyze even more than I did on the first round, which would mean counting calories, possibly money spent on food as well. Yikes on your root canal. Is it finished? Does it hurt? Congrats on the 2.5 lbs down! That's a lot better than I'm doing! Actually, I've been afraid to look. The weight tracker is probably not accurate anymore. I just couldn't take another bit of bad news... I like your new challenges. No. 2 sounds like something I should be doing too....will think about it. Good luck!
Apple -- Hmm. I wonder what work situation I was talking about...probably just the general lack of sufficient work. That's the same, but some stuff is dribbling in. I'm also going to talk over some book ideas with a publisher this week. Keeping my fingers crossed they'll be receptive. If not, I have another publisher in mind, the paper I work at. And there is some other stuff on the back burner there as well, a column and regular racing articles for the paper. Wish me luck, please! Well, I'm glad to hear you're sticking with it, Apple, and restarting. Hang in there!
surf -- What was your challenge again? While there is lots of room for options, the basic rules of this challenge are that you have to do something every day. It's about making habits, not like the other challenges, the week challenge or a certain goal by a certain date. Please, pick something you can do every day like we are or maybe you can just tweak what you were doing (I'm sorry I forgot what it was) or make the parameters vaguer. Tell me what you're doing and I can help. You're such a sweetie, I wouldn't want to lose you to another thread! I had to laugh on the guys plotting their ex's ends.
Fish -- You are doing so well I'm sure you can make the next 9 days okay! Wow, congratulations on the raise!! Thank you, I'm glad you liked the avatar. I don't know much art modern art either, just found this picture because I always want to have a red balloon in my avatar, that's all.
marb -- Too bad you have to restart, but glad you're sticking with it. Sure hope you feel better soon.
chai -- Yes, there sure are a lot of restarters. Well, good luck to you too! With that scale moving, I hope it'll give you the motivation you need to stick with your challenge.
Sushi -- Hi there! Are you between challenges or is the running still going? I'm sure you can think of something you'd like to make habit. Perhaps a bit of yoga or pilates, or journaling, no sugar or soda or something? Well, you've got ideas no doubt. Are you going to tell us what you're doing?
Things have gone tough in the Sushi-land...
Given that I still haven't met my mid-February weight goal and that a long camping trip is on the horizon, I've decided to toughen things up...
Running challenge - Day 5 completed today, and my February goal of running 500 minutes has been met, and with an excess of 30 seconds at that! Going for 600 minutes in March, wish me luck!
Day 2 of Food Diary (level 3) and Day 1 of Day Planner (level 2) complete as well. The other two challenges are to eat a salad each day (level 1), and 15 min stationary biking & no sweets (level 2, cannot be split, but I can have up to 3 mint sticks per day).
To explain things - the food diary is of course a food journal, which must include time, quantity and notes on how hungry I was and whether the food eaten was a good decision. Phew!
Day Planner Challenge involves setting a basic structure for the upcoming week and then planning the next 2 days in detail, given on what specifically needs to be taken care of. And then sticking with it of course! I have a ton of work to do in the next 3 weeks and a lot of distraction, so even though I always plan my days in advance, I thought that making it into a 21-day challenge would help things.
So for example, this is the basic structure for this week... Monday - work, yoga; Tuesday - work, dog walk*; Wednesday - AM errands, work, skating; Thursday - phone (bookings), leave at 10 am to Neighbourhood, work in the afternoon; Friday - work, dog walk; Saturday - picnic with girls; Sunday - AM market then either hike or work;
*this is not to say that the dog only gets walks a couple times per week... It's just when *I* take him for long ones. Other days it's either short walks, or long ones with other family members.
Must run... the owner of this computer wants it back...
Red, your wish has been granted... Sorry, I wasn't specific enough yesterday.
Yea, I do have lots of ideas... I'm already planning 21-day challenges for my trip... will probably be running and food diary, and maybe rope skipping...? Will see. For now I better get those 5 current ones moving along!
I'll join in! Starting today... my goal will be Level 2 and that is to not eat anything that is outside of my eating plan. When I make it I will pay myself $10 into my cruise "blow" money.

Yesterday went well, with both days 13 completed (991 calories and 30 minutes walking). I'm back in New York for 10 days.
Apple, I'm going to the Barney's warehouse sale tonight after work - I hope I find some good deals! I've been sticking to the lower side of the city so far. I don't think I've ventured above 24th street yet. That should change this weekend though.
I hope everyone is doing well on this blustery day (it is SO cold here! and windy!) I should have time to talk more later. By for now.
I didn't exercise last night.
I need to find the elusive motivation..... Stll raining here. Today is usually my long walk/run day but I may be rained out....
Good news, no beer yesterday. I might stealth a no beer challenge if I can avoid the stuff for a few more days.
Fish- I was never fond of mid-town. You are in a great spot. Try the Upper West Side if you get a chance, I love it there. And Central Park of course. There is a beautiful garden there, but I forget where exactly. I think East side...
Hello Dance! You picked a great challenge! And I like your reward idea. I tend to think up rewards for actual weight lost, but a challenge completed is worth a reward too! I have actually picked up a lot of great ideas here but I never am able to apply them to my own quest. I should really buckle down, keep a food journal, follow a menu... I can't seem to do that kind of stuff. I always fall back on the eat less-exercise more plan. And I can't even stick to that for long enough...
Motivation, where are you????
Good to hear from everyone else, Have a great day!
OK. Well . . . . . The good news is that I did make it to the gym, I did do weights today, and I did avoid soda.
The not good news? I will be restarting challenges tomorrow. Took "Fat Tuesday" a bit too seriously, and wanted to get that last bit of in before I started the third challenge.
So, starting tomorrow:
1. Follow menu (same rules as before), but get in 3 servings/day each of fruits and vegetables. Level 2
2. Measure (size or calories, whichever I can get) breakfast and snacks. Level 2
3. No chocolate (only time I will list this. Rest of the time it will just be known as ). Heck, this is supposed to be a challenge, so I am making this a Level 1. I will have to get more granola bars, as mine have some chips in them.
I guess I do have one other good thing to announce - I finally found a calorie book, so will have an easier time with goal 2.
Ok, here we go again......I'm setting the bar low in hopes of finishing something.
Exercise, level 1 challenge: today is Day #1
Push-ups every day, starting with 1 set of 8 reps and 1 set of 4 reps.
anything else is *gravy* (no food porn intended)
too busy at work....the homestead needs tending, hope everyone else does well too! I need to catch up on the bulk of the thread...see you all tomorrow!
Yorkie - You wonder what good doublecaloriesar if your laughing may kill you? Well - live hard, die young, and leave a good looking corpse???
Jolly~ how morbid! Nah, I’d rather live a GOOD LIFE, DIE OLD but THIN and TRIM to fit a regular width coffin, and have the plastic surgeon make sure I live behind a good looking corpse.
Seriously, congrats on completing the soda challenge, your weight loss, and the new outfit and good luck on your new ones.
Red~ Nice to have you back, the new avatar looks great and I hope you get the book deal or the other jobs you’re going for.
JCT~ I get the other smilies from other sites, just copy and paste the URL.
Fish~ 20 working hours- may I ask what you do? And congrats on the raise.
Cbeta~ 700 calories and you’re not hungry, what’s your secret? I would love to be able to eat 1200 cal. And not be hungry.
Curly and Carla~ you guys are not alone on the hot flashes altho’ I still have my TOMs, can't wait to get them over and done with.
Carla~ congrats on completing the no wine that’s a tough one.
I’m glad to report that I’m on my 9th day and having no problems whatsoever.
I had an incident last Sunday when DH and I went out to eat at an Asian Restaurant. I ordered dishes which were according to my challenges, and while eating my carbohydrate side dish I noticed a small piece of what some are calling “the other white meat” and I was totally grossed-out. Needless to say, I didn’t eat the dish and I didn’t complain either. I never send something back to the kitchen when we eat out, I’m always afraid I will get something worse. So I think that my level 3 challenge is almost a sure thing now.
I hope I haven't written anything that is considered food porn.
Good luck to everyone.
It is now 11:00PM here, so almost bedtime for me. Going for my 10th day tomorrow. Goodnight all.
