Can Willie go to WalMart for you?

Didn't exercise tonight. Plan on going to the gym in the morning. Then to Jonesboro to yet another doctor's appointment. This one is with the gyn. I'm not looking forward to it but needs to be done.

Happy Thursday ladies -

Dang, I'm so glad the weekend is nearly here! Not that this weekend will be any less hectic...with working on Friday and Friday night, and getting all the stuff for DMIL's b'day party on Saturday afternoon. It would be great to go to Festa Italiana on Saturday night or Sunday, but we'll have to wait to see what the weather is and how DMIL feels.

I went to the indoor waterpark at the Y and walked against the current in the lazy river for 45 minutes. What a phenomenal workout! Just perfect for a hot day!

Today is supposed to be another really hot day, but probably no water workouts for me. I have PT this afternoon...40 minutes of boot-camp style circuit training, except that all the exercises are safe for my back and aimed at strengthening my back/core and improving my balance. Then, if PT doesn't kill me...I'll probably go to ball Zumba tonight.

********************************

Shad - I totally agree. Any company without a proper disaster recovery plan, and/or unwilling to properly fund said plan, is just asking for trouble. You are so right about retirement. From people I've known who have done it...having things to look forward to, keeping busy, and keeping mentally and physically active are all important aspects of a happy, healthy retirement. Too funny about the girl next door all bundled up while you're in shorts, t-shirt and slippers! Yes, I remember you sent your niece and her DH to see the penguins! I can't wait to see the photos!!

Happy - Leave it to Shad to give you the best advice regarding stressing about your job and the move, and she put it much more eloquently than I could ever hope to.

Ceejay - You sent a request? To me? What about? I don't think I got one. I'm confused. Sorry.

Mel - I'm glad you decided not to go to WalMart. Stay inside where it's at least a bit cooler. Glad to hear that today's meeting will be short!

Annie - I know you've got 17 or 18 more days of work without a day off. I hope you're finding some time for yourself (and for Hella B. of course).

Big to Laura, Ellen and Happy! I'll be back later to check on y'all.

Lots of love and many hugs,

Morning all.

Michelle - I agree - exercise definitely is one of my top stress relievers. The seminar had the 4 F's - Fitness, Food (dietary changes including the usual suggestions to reduce sodium, sugar, fat, caffeine, liquor intake. I wasn't aware of these: increase B12/stress complex vitamins, eat tryptophane and carb rich foods only when relaxing. Hmmm.), Fun, and Forty winks - sleep, of course). Okay, with this heat, even walking against the lazy river current sounds refreshing. Just the PT alone sounds like enough exercise for me!

Mel - Glad you're skipping the Walmart trip - way too hot to be in a tin can w/ no AC!!! Hope Willy is taking appropriate measures to keep cool in that bus. Glad the meeting can't go too long... I suppose I'm lactose intolerant - and usually have my dairy in small doses, so I suppose that small Frosty was too much for me. I need to have the willpower to skip stuff like that altogether or dump half of it right off the bat so I can't OD on it.

Shad - Yeh, I'd like to be able to benefit from all the money I've paid into Social Security, but I feel like the gov will keep moving the cheese on me. We'll see. You're absolutely right about having a planned retirement - when I take days off work without having plans, I initially enjoy it (espec. not getting up to an alarm), but then I'm just lost and bored and unhappy. Can't imagine that for 20 years. Too funny about the neighbor all bundled up at 44F and you in shorts. I admit I wouldn't be in shorts, but our spring was a lot of <50F temps and my concession was having gloves in my raincoat pocket.

Ceejay - Gyne, ugh. But good to just get it over with!! I'm still debating switching to a new gyne doc, or even just letting my primary doc do the exam & usual tests. Are you at the gym right now??

Annie - Hope everything's okay with you - aside from working so darn much!! Take care.

Hellos to Happy & Ellen!!

Plans changed last night and I did The Firm Cardio Party workout at home in the basement last night. Good and sweaty, yes. A party, no. But at least I got a load of laundry done while I exercised. Doggy was whiney last night, so I sat out in the yard with him for a few minutes. It felt good - I get such a chill inside. Can't win with the AC - set too low - freeze, set too high - it won't kick in often enough. I'd be okay w/ the latter, as long as there's a fan to move the air a bit, but bf wouldn't... I'm sure there's plenty of thermostat wars going on in many a home these days, LOL. I always say AC is worth every penny, but I'm sure not looking forward to the bill that's coming after this heat wave!

Okay, I confess, I stopped at Dunkin Donuts for a bagel this morning. While I was waiting everyone kept ordering iced coffees only to be told they'd run out of ICE! DD must not have been prepared for the run on iced coffee in this heat wave.

Okay, broken record - TONIGHT I'm going to an exercise class.

TTFN!

Laura
You've been doing good with the exercise lately. I'll go to the gym later this afternoon. I've been thinking the same thing re gyn verses regular doctor.

Mel
Just a thought about Willie shopping for you. I knew he carried your groceries in for you at times. Stay cool. No still haven't bought the battery for the laptop. Still debating on buying a new computer.

Michelle
I'm thinking about stopping at Fazoli's before I head home from Jonesboro this afternoon. I need to run a few errands also while I'm there. I sent a request to the websight. Sorry about that.

Annie
Hope everything is okay.

Happy
How did your dr's appointment go yesterday?

Shad and Ellen Have a good day.

----------
Nothing new this morning. I'm dreading the gyn. Don't mind going to the doctor.
Don't know why I get the idea that I can trim my hair! The end's always end up wavy. Now I'll need to stop at the hair salon to get this evened up. :sigh:

Happy Friday ladies -

Super quick check in for me as now I have TWO huge projects that need to be done ASAP. PT yesterday was quite the workout! 45 minutes non-stop. Then I came home and debated about going to Zumba...but after a bit of relaxing...I decided to go. After all, I did get the clearance from my PT to try dancing to one SLOW cool-down type song and see how my back tolerates weight bearing Zumba. My back did good...though it felt really weird to be standing up and doing the moves "weight-bearing" style. I could also tell from the way my back felt that I will REALLY have to EASE back into this. Probably sticking with one slow cool-down song next week, and gradually add on a second song as my back gets stronger.

Today, after work, I have to take Mischief back to the vet for a blood test and also pick up DMIL at her sister's. We were hoping that she would stay there until tomorrow so that we could just show up with all the food and cake and presents and surprise her. But, she wants to come home today. So tomorrow I have to think of some lame excuse to be gone in the morning so I can purchase the food and get it all to her sister's house (35 minutes away). Then come home and DH is going to suggest we all go for a drive. Hopefully it will all work out well.

*****************

Laura - Good for you for doing the Cardio Party workout...even if it wasn't a party...and multi-tasking by doing laundry too. The lazy river walking is very refreshing. I see Northern IL is getting big t-storms this morning. I think we'll just be getting rain here.

Ceejay - I hope the gyn appt went well and that you had a nice dinner at Fazoli's. I've tried trimming my hair once. Could never get it even so I just had to keep cutting it shorter. Never again.

Annie - Congrats Granny Annie!! I'm so happy for you, Sam and her BF. Christopher Jacob is going to be spoiled rotten (er...I mean...very loved) little boy!!

Shad - Have a great weekend with R.

A big to Happy, Ellen and Mel. I'll try and check back later.

Much love to all,

Good morning ladies,

It's off to the dentist for me this morning. My endochronologist appointment went well. For once he didn't yell at me I told his nurse what was going on and how stressed I was and I guess they took pity on me My A1C (long term) blood sugar level is down from last year so that's a good thing My cholesterol is 202 - need to work on that but other than my weight things are doing good. I am major stressed at the moment. More than I remember being when we were up in Chicago and I didn't know if I'd have a job and have to move or if we'd be in dire straights 7 years ago. There aren't many jobs in the company right now, save for some highly specialized stuff. I am hoping something will work out. DH and I are also mega busy getting the house in shape. He is ripping down wallpaper and preparing to paint the kitchen. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING in here is a mess. This is killing me as there is no order to anything. I am going to go room by room this weekend and tell DH not to go into anything but the kitchen, bedroom and loo I alternate between being weepy, angry and having the nervous shakes.

Michelle - I hope you are able to surprise DMIL - what a lovely idea - she will be so thrilled! Sounds like you always have huge projects they dump on your lap girlfriend - sounds like you have the same glow that Shad does of miracle maker on the job Hope you can get it done in time. I'm glad you were able to stick a toe in the water with the Zumba. And it's good that your body is talking to you louder than your head so you know that you just can't race back again. It will come in time. You are seeing successes, focus on that and go slowly as setbacks are getting harder to recover from

Annie - congratulations on the new baby. Now you can make plans on decorations and clothes and the nursery. I was just reading an article on Vitamin D deficiency. They think that the rise in autism in kids is a result of mom's being short on the vitamin. That kind of makes sense and explains why babies today seem to have issues that we didn't see when we were young and in our child bearing years. So many things to watch out for! Anyway I'm hoping this "new man" in your life will give you lots and lots of happiness, unlike the grown up versions Train him right Hope your other "not so happy" appointments turned out ok and there's no trouble brewing.

You ladies talked about gyne vs doctor. I will be doing the same thing eventually as we cut back on doctors and doctor visits. I think once you get out of childbearing years and don't have any other female issues, I don't see why a general doctor can't cover the regular stuff. I think they consult with colleagues anyway - that's what my Gyne did when she was running the thyroid tests - checked the results with an endochronologist. Which is another doctor I'll be checking off the list too. Actually I went to a new gyne this year after getting tired of waiting in a chair for 3 hours while the doctor wasn't even in the office. This new one was a referral and she isn't taking new patients. I saw the nurse practioner which was just fine. She was very knowledgeable, well trained and if she needs to, consults with the doctor on a issue. My sister said she is doing the same thing. I guess medicine is changing.

Ceejay - I have never tried Fazoli's. They had one here but I think it closed. Is it good? Hope your gyne appt goes well.

Laura - I hear you on the a/c. Seems like it's hard to keep the temps stable with the cooling. One room is warm, the other too cool. Sounds like you guys are getting some of our heat.

Here's the thing about all of you thinking you will be working until you are 70. That's sort of hard to do when corporate America is ditching all it's older workers in place of younger or offshore people. I think it's a fundamental mistake that people are making that they THINK they will have a job up to the point they want to retire. The other mistake people have made is that they have saved virtually nothing and just assume they will keep working. DH and I have been working on a plan for over 20 years. Once I realized we would not have kids, we started to save for an early retirement. Now I'm glad we did - mostly because we dont' have to move into a tent in the back yard of my Mom's home because of the job situation. In fact DH has cousins in their 50's who had to move back into their Mom's 2 bedroom home when they both lost their jobs and could not find work that paid enough to support them independently. Given DH's age and medical issues, work is non existent for him. I had lunch with a friend this week doing a little networking and he said seeing what has gone down with me as well as what he sees around him makes him realize that he needs to live as frugally as possible (and he's really cheap to begin with) and prepare that there's no guarantee of a job for any length of time. It's a sad state of the world.

Shad - hope you enjoy your visit with the friend. Stay inside and drink warm tea and count the number of warm clothes on the neighbor

Mel - while the seniors might think they feel bad for poor Willy, not sure any of them will do less on the grocery list. I NEED that! Good for you for not venturing in the hot bus - no need to get sick on top of everything else. Proud that you are holding your ground and not letting them poke you with a stick!!!

Oh and Annie - I had the best laugh of the day when your scale read 770 pounds. Oh the horror!

Well I need to get off my duff, get the teeth brushed and off to the dentist. He is supposed to put on the new crown but the temp is sensitive which means probably another root canal. It never ends. Then off to the office to finish out this horrid week.

Stay cool (or warm Shad) and I'll be back later.

Morning all. TGIF!

Ceejay - I think I agree with what Happy said - a regular doctor can do the common gyne stuff. And in these lawsuit happy days, a doctor is not likely to take chances when something questionable comes up - they will refer you to a specialist (espec if you're on a PPO and free to choose providers). Now my hair cuts & coloring - I definitely leave that to an expert, LOL!

Annie - Oh a boy - how nice. (Same response for a girl, BTW, LOL.) That's a nice name. And now you can go to town buying boy stuff. Have fun!!

Shad - Have a good weekend hosting your friend.

Michelle - I hope you can still surprise your dmil. Good for you with the PT and the Zumba - glad you're doing well enough to get the go ahead to ease back into standing routine(s). Bf reported it rained for a couple hours last night. I still have to remember to water our newly planted shrubs - they are partially under the eaves and don't get get much rain there. Not sure if we had storms - I slept through it all like a baby.

Mel - Oooh, I like that bike in your post! Especially with the flowers! Glad the meeting was short and sweet. Keep cool today, and maybe lock the building doors to keep the seniors inside in the AC.

Happy - I hope you can find another position within your company. Yes it is a sad state of the world. I agree that older workers are vulnerable, but there are also employers (not enough) who might value their experience and work ethic. On the other hand, an older worker might just be mentally ready to retire, but not financially and is just warming a seat... And then there could be health issues that don't allow for extended work years. (I just know that the financial guy I had the consult with last week is going to pitch disability insurance to me when we meet again.) I hope I can afford to ease into retirement and not have to work full-time all the way up until age 67 or 70, but I need to do some specific planning to make that happen! I hope the chaos at home doesn't drive you crazy this weekend.

Hello Ellen!

I went to the Freemotion Circuit class last night. Usually students start off by walking around the indoor track before class starts and for a few minutes into class before the instructor herds us into the fitness center for some warm up stretches. Well, the gym/track area is apparently not air conditioned, or it was just really hot up in the track area because it was stifling! So I only walked 3 -4 laps (3-4 tenths of a mile) before giving up and going into the fitness center to cool off. I had a good workout and sweated a lot. I know those terry headbands aren't in vogue, but I sure need something to catch the sweat! For my yard work I wear bandanas - not a good look either. Any ideas??

Tomorrow we were supposed to spend the day by bf's aunt's place for a gathering with bf's niece who is in town from KY. Well, now we learn that's off because the niece and her son have to return home early because of the niece's work obligations. Bf's mom is ticked because the niece spent 3 days with the dad/stepmom already and now can't even see her and the aunt. And the drama now is that bf's mom thinks the dad/stepmom knew this all along and didn't want to change their plans (3 days at WI Dells with the stepmon's side of the family). If that's true - and even if it's not- it's really lame of them to not try and fit in a visit to her grandmother and great aunt, who are getting up in age and can't easily travel to KY to vist the niece. On the other hand, the niece is no longer a child and she should call some of the shots during her visits...

I thought tonight after work might be a dog bath, but bf just applied the frontline to doggy's fur. I think it should be absorbed into his skin by now, so we should be able to bathe him...not sure. Tomorrow morning is doggy's annual vet visit, then because the aunt thing was cancelled, I hope to make a late morning exercise class.

My widowed friend is coming to visit tomorrow evening and will stay overnight with us. No agenda yet, except probably dinner and maybe go someplace for live music. Should be fun.

Okay, this took forever to finish with all the interruptions. I'll post it before I manage to lose it!

I agree with the work situations and the older generations. Hence one of the reason's for not wanting to buy the car. I really don't want to work past 65 if I make it that far.

Laura
Good for you in going to the exercise class. Our gym must be smaller than yours. It takes 13 times around the track upstairs to equal a mile.

Annie
Has it been long enough for your daughter to have the baby. Or did she have an ultra sound to find out what sex the baby would be. Congratulations either way.

-----
Made myself got tot the gym this morning. Walked on the treadmill for 20 minutes, did weight machines for 10 minutes and rode the bike for 30 minutes. I will be going back tomorrow.

I'm taking my neighbor's grand children out for pizza around 2.00 p.m. They may be going back this week end.

Decided not to for go to Fazoli's. I was really hungry for veggies so we went to Barnhill's. Stopped by Arkansas State University's convocation center to pick up our tickets to go see the Johnny Cash festival.
