  • Quote: ...another rainy day expected in Ottawa today, and cool (I think they said a max of 15 degrees). I'm still counting on the 'warmer, longer fall' that they were talking about last week, and planning fall (trans)planting in my garden!
Yep. Same type of weather here too! A light mist is surrounding us, kind'of nice actually- makes you wanna cuddle up with a good book, or in my case, alot of good books...reporting into work at the library for 1 o'clock hee hee!!

    Have a great day eh!

  • Oy...us too. It's been getting colder at night. Last night I went for a rainy run, tho...it was a nice sprinkling and not soak-you-to-the-skin rain.
  • HI All! I'm dragging my butt back here, it's been awhile since I posted in the Canada thread. But I'm back to it now. And hopefully be sticking around for some time.

It's fall time way up here in the Yukon but no frost yet!! Keeping my fingers crossed as I have a few more things still in the garden!
  • SnowboundChick! I think you're our first poster from Yukon! I can't believe you still have stuff in your garden this late. I always had this image of Yukon being frost-bound by early September... I'll try to send some heat vibes your way (not that I want to lose the warmth here -- I'm sharing!)
  • HELLO FELLOW CANUCKS ~ nice to see a couple of returnees this fall -- SNOWBOUND ... glad that you have returned. I know that many Canadians get very busy over the summer, then they come back in the fall and winter months. I still have green beans in my side garden; the frost hasn't bothered them yet. I only planted 3 small patches and got over 3 baskets already; if the frost holds off for a while, I will get some more yet too. They are one of my favorite low-cal veggies ...

Many of my flowers are still in bloom out there; the brown-eyed Susans, the very tall gladiolas; and the gold cinquefoil bush too. Plus the yellow daylilies have decided to have a second round of blossoming; very cool!

We went up to our lot today as we had lovely for the whole day today. We did a few small things around there; I crocheted a couple of squares and did some tidying up while DH did his thing. WE had a lovely double lawnchair (with a table in between) made for up there so we hope to take it up there next trip. The guy did a terrific job too.

Hope you all have a wonderful fall weekend ... Rosebud
  • Hi everyone! Hope your week-end is starting as well as mine; it's SUNNY over there, and I've hit the 250 lbs mark (well, 250.8, but I don't round up!!!)

I haven't been able to garden because of the cancer thing, and the yard has turned into a jungle. My brown-eyed Susans have spread from side to back yard, and bring bright colour to some of the darker corners Our postage-stamp-sized lot has such a variety of flora and fauna. The adult neighbours keep saying they never see anything but their kids come by and wonder why they don't have insects in their yards There were boys back there the other day as quiet as can be watching the chipmunks fill their cheeks! It makes being home alone while I'm on leave very entertaining!
  • Most of my garden is in but my green house still has tomatoes and cucumbers in it. But my Dad's garden still has a lot in it. I think we'll have to go pick/dig soon. It's been a crazy summer. Lot's of stuff in our personal life. My Dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer and he told us at the beginning of August, we knew it was cancer since June just not how bad. It's lung cancer. I quit smoking in June for the hundredth time and I haven't looked back.
I've been struggling for the last year trying to keep it together but failed and now I'm finally getting back to myself. I joined a challenged over in the 100lb Club to lose 50lb by the New year. It'll be a good start.
  • Well for a saturday, I've managed to get a lot done so far and it's only 3pm. Was up early since Chancey (the pooch) decided it was time for her to get up so mom had to as well. I don't mind really. I only have her 1/2 the week anyway so if I get up a little earlier so be it. I was out and back from doing a few errands by 11 am and have 3 loads of laundry done, cleaned the bathroom (so NOT my favorite chore!), and bathed Chancey. Not bad for a few hours I guess. Making spagetti for supper. I use only whole wheat or multigrain pasta so it won't be too bad.

In one week we have dropped around here from 43C to 14 C. What a difference. Its nice out today but with the breeze a bit chilly. I like it though. I got a chill bathing Chance with the cold water from the hose but she doesn't care.

Gradually getting myself back on track around here food wise as well. Not as good as I should be - but a definite improvement over a couple of weeks ago. My short term goal would be out of the 200s by Jan 1. Thats 32 lbs. May not be completely doable - but I am going to work hard for it and see what happens. Going to change my ticker to a goal one for Jan 1.

Hope you girls are having a nice weekend so far. I'll check in again later!

  • Hi everyone, great to see so many new and returning faces.

I have been really struggling weight-wise lately. Have managed to gain back 7 pounds. But today is a new day and I am feeling like I am getting back on track. Went for a big grocery shopping trip at Superstore and got lots of fruit & veg so I am set for the week. Tomorrow I am going to make a menu for the upcoming week - and stick to it!!!

Here is a funny story. I had enough PC points to pay for my complete order at Superstore (I have been saving them for a long time), plus since I spent over $250 I got a $25 gift card. Free groceries plus they paid me to shop there! lol!

Sea, sorry to hear about the cancer thing. Hope you are on the road to a full recovery.

Snow, Sorry about you Dad. Good to hear you have quit smoking.

    Have a great weekend everyone!
  • JUDY-LYNN ~ some of that may be water-weight, but good for you for not giving up; you can do it -- just keep on, keepin' on. That was quite a bargain you had shopping; saving enuff points for free groceries & gifts too.

ALANNAH ~ wow, you got a lot done in such a short time; good for you. It is good to have a goal in front of us; give it your best shot!!!

SNOWBOUND ~ sent up prayers for your DAD and your whole family; congrats on quitting smoking! Both DH & I quit over 7 years ago; the best thing we ever did ...

SEAWAVE ~ sending up prayers for you for restored health and wellness; nothing like nature to sooth our souls ...

We had another day up at our lot; it was even nicer than yesterday. Lots of and warmer temps in the 70's as well. We took our double lawnchair up and I put a few coats of stain on (man, am I sore now); while DH made some stairs. It looks really good; and is really comfortable to sit on.

Hope you all have a peaceful & restful Sunday tomorrow ... Rosebud
  • Good to see this thread. Newbie here to the forums. I'm in the Ottawa area as well as a few others on here by the looks of it.

I'm just starting on the weight watchers program, and wondering if any of you have been on it before. I'm determined to lose weight as the doctored ordered. I've lost five pounds in the last few weeks, just by watching what I eat. I want to get back into exercising, and counting calories. Good to be here! The weather is really cooling off. I love fall!
  • ~*Justwant2Bhealthy*~ Newfoundland is home, Toronto is work. My SO is also from NL so we go back as often as possible. 75% of my time is here in TO.

Any BC chicks here? We'll be headed out that way in a few weeks- Near the Alaska border- I hope it's not too cold up there yet!
Oh and the Geese- they're mean poop machines, I don't know why they're so treasured lol. There are none in Newfoundland so I was shocked to see great herds of them all over S-Ontario. They're worse then the gulls!
  • So we ARE a coast to (almost) coast to coast kinda thread! yay!

Definitely fall here in NS. Went down to 8 and is only going up to 15-16. Great for going for walks with the dog though!

There are another couple of hurricanes heading through the Atlantic...some say the Igor will hit us...great. Although if our deck was destroyed then maybe insurance would pay to fix it....hmmmmmm....

    Have a great day everyone!

  • hey Canadian gals,

Hope everyone is off to a great week. I just started the weight watchers program this week and I'm so psyched. I did hear that they don't sell any weight watchers ice cream in Canada...boo hoo.

Fall is hear, time for seasons to change, and people too! Have a great day everyone!
  • Giving up pop today, working on getting more water and working exercise in more.
