Hey Girls - sorry I've been MIA for a couple of weeks. Kinda got in a funk and it took me a bit to get out of it. But I am re-committed yet again. Myself and 2 friends of mine are joining TOPS in the next couple of weeks after they ramp up again for the Fall season. I like TOPS. used to be a leader when I lived in NS so it helps me with the accountability. Hopefully having friends to be accountable to every day will help too.
Earl just side swept us up here. We got some heavy rain for a few hours but the wind was nothing we hadn't seen before in a normal Nor'easter. I used to live in Truro NS though so I know what its like to deal with the hurricanes and such. Its the one thing I don't miss living back up here. The heat this past week is another matter altogether. With the humidex we hit 46 on Sept. 1. Thought that day would never come to an end. Still humid up here but its finally supposed to break a bit overnight. I can't wait!
I don't have kids so the back to school doesn't affect me but I can be glad for all you moms who need that few hours a day!
Guess thats it for now...I promise I will be here every day good or bad. I am using MFP as well to track calories and such to help me along.
I know we're not supposed to complain about the heat...because Eastern Canada never gets this long of a summer....but WOW, I almost want to thank Earl for breaking the humidy and letting me wear gym pants comfortably again
ALANNAH ~ don't worry about being in a funk; come back anyways. We all have times when something in life challenges us for a while. Perfection isn't necessary, but persistence really helps -- just keep on, keepin' on. I always say it's really about the "Law of Averages" ... even if you have an off-plan day here or there -- over the week and month, it will all wash out. Some days I just count as a maintenance day (about once a week); and if I flub something, I just make a correction the next snack, meal, or day. That new strategy keeps me from giving up if I make a mistake. There is no end to this back-2-health journey; I'm in it for the long-haul this time (5+ years so far).
HI JENNA ~ ya, we here ya on the humidity; I don't even mind the 80's, but it's the humidity that is so hard on us. My SM was just telling us that in some areas of Alberta, they don't get the humidity we do out east; her brother lives in a small town near Calgary, and he says that they rarely ever get any humidity in his area (sorry, I can't recall the name of the place right now).
Well, we had for most of the weekend with very cold temps; seems it's one way or another, eh? Hot & humid; or cold & wet & windy. I'm glad that Hurricane Earl behaved himself and didn't cause too much grief for you easterners. We finally had some lovely today; I think someone upstairs heard my earnest prayers. It got up into the high 60's with the sun, so that wasn't too bad really.
We had leftover BBQ spit chicken, a mix of veggies, and coleslaw, sliced toms and cukes. Boy the veggies and salads can sure fill you up; I picked some more green beans and we had some of them for dinner too.
Hope you all have a great week coming up ... Rosebud
We've had rainy, cool weather here too. I think Fall is definitely coming upon us; I watched a chipmunk under our birdfeeder stuffing his cheeks and running to hide his loot, then coming back for more. I must have seen make at least 20 trips -even the crows didn't scare him away!
Hope everyone is well and starting the week off right!
Yes Earl threw us for a bit of a loop here...he was supposed to hit around Digby/Saint John (which is 3-4 hours away from us) but ended up coming ashore a mere HOUR away. Needless to say we lost power for a few hours and our gazebo is toast. Oh well...all those things can be replaced and/or fixed.
Nice to see that we have some maritimers here! I think we just need someone from Newfoundland and we'll be from coast to coast.
Rosebud...that's awesome that you have a garden! I used to in our other house...and well before having kids. Do you freeze and can items? I buy in bulk and freeze a whack of fruits and veggies for the winter and also get a side of pork and beef.
Well my brain is begging for sleep and tomorrow is school....7:30 -2:30 and I am KID FREE!!! (insert Maddie doing the happy dance)
Well, back to work tomorrow for me. I took an extra day off so I had today to relax a bit. It's supposed to be rainy here all week. I did get my walk in today. 40 minutes. I didn't go yesterday but I did on Sunday for 30 mins so at least its a start.
Re-joining TOPS again here in a couple of weeks. I am giving them a week or two to get going again after the summer. Actually I guess it'll probably be next wednesday that I go. Or at least that's the plan anyway.
I just wanted to stop by. I'll check in later again. Must go see what I want to wrangle up for supper tonight. Its just me so it isn't like I have to worry about anyone else LOL.
HELLO TO OUR FELLOW CANUCKS OUT THERE ~ we had most of the day and they are calling for that for some of this week as well. We do usually get spring and fall rain though; so this is to be expected for our area really. Mr. tried to come out around dinnertime but some very dark clouds came in right after. They are expecting a little sunshine for tomorrow AM and all day Friday; that would be nice.
I made up a nice soup/stew for dinner out of leftovers; perfect for a cold, wet day. Now, I am having some tea & toast with PB for my evening snack tonight as I was quite a bit under my calorie allotment for the day.
MADDIE ~ here's the happy guy for ya ... Yes, we have gardens along the south and west side of this place; they were already there when we moved here, so I just planted in them. In the spring, I had a salad garden with lettuce, radishes, onions, parsley, spinach, and Swiss chard; then, I planted three patches of green beans. The front gardens had all flowers; and the south-west had flowers and flowering bushes. Next year, I may even try a couple of tomato plants to see how they do here.
SEA ~ ya, we see the same behavior here; plus birdies filling up before their flight south too, so we put extra stuff out during this time.
ALANNAH ~ good for you getting your big walks in; I got lots of walking done around here today, as we were putting in new(er) laundry machines today. With that and cleaning, my poor feetsies felt like they were going to fall off ...
As a matter of fact, it's time to put them up again -- will likely read some, if I can before nodding off, that is. I did get a bit of reading done just before dinner for about an hour. Maybe I should try crocheting tonight instead.
Have a great week everyone ... Rosebud

Yay Canadian thread!
I bounce back and forth from Newfoundland (home) and S-Ontario (work)
I haven't been outside yet to give claims on the weather but I'm sure it's humid and too hot like always here in T.O
Had lots of fun in the wind and rain for the long weekend though!
Signs of fall abound! The chickadees and goldfinches are scarfing at the birdfeeders (as are the squirrels). The Canada geese are gathering in the fields. I can't wait until the leaves change colour - it is so glorious!
Weather here is darkly overcast, but no rain yet today. Likely to come this afternoon though. I took a short walk this morning (my first 'unescorted' walk since surgery) and it felt great to walk in cooler weather. I guess my timing is good for that!
NUMBER 8 ~ glad you found us over here; so we now have a Newfoundlander & Torontonian in one ... Yes, a vast difference in the weather between the two places for sure. Do you fly between those two places for your work?
We have here again today, so it is wet and cold here right now. It feels like it has cooled off a bit since this morning too -- that may be the wind. I hope it warms up as the week goes a long.
SEA ~ yes, we see the Canadian Geese going through the area here too; we saw a group that was guiding the young ones -- with a big momma goose encouraging them constantly as they flew by: it was so touching to see and hear them. I prayed that they would make it safely to their destination.
... we have so many of them here, they make a BIG mess on our riverside boardwalk, and in our big recreation fields down at the marina - beautiful yes (and not-so-beautiful when treadding where they once were!)
Oh yes, the mess of the Canada Geese. My son played soccer in Kingston last summer in a field that had been taken over by the Geese. You can imagine the mess! We made him wash off and change in a Tim Horton's washroom before we would drive back home!
LADIES ~I still think the Canadian Geese are beautiful -- they stop off here too, but at the lakes and fields in the country becuz they have to dodge the hunters. I don't know why your town fathers (gov mps) don't look at this as a "job creation project" and hire seasonal workers to clean up after them. I think they are a national treasure, like our precious moose are ... and they have to stop off somewhere on their way down south as it is too cold up here for them ... go geese go ...
Add me to the "not so much loving the geese" group! Our campground beach/shore area is covered with green goose poop from late April until June. Not a pretty sight. One good thing is...all the dogs are allowed off leash to chase the buggers while they are there. Once the weather warms up and they spend more time elsewhere...dogs must be leashed.
Rosebud - I agree, the Canada Goose is a national treasure, and it would be a great if someone could figure out a way to keep them away from places where children play. I mean, really, you can't imagine what a soccer field looks like in the Spring/Fall unless you've seen it. Ugh. And I'm not sure it's all that healthy for the guys to play on it either! At the very least, they slip and slide more than usual
On another note, another rainy day expected in Ottawa today, and cool (I think they said a max of 15 degrees). I'm still counting on the 'warmer, longer fall' that they were talking about last week, and planning fall (trans)planting in my garden!
