Welcome Kitkat, nice to see another Canadian here!
Rosebud - Sounds like you had a restful weekend! Here's to some relaxation!
Donna - What kind of dog do you want to get? I am converted non-dog person. Love the dogs now!
CMO2 - Treadmills are awesome! I've always wanted one and never had the room or the money. I still don't although you know if I were to tally up all the money I've spent on gyms and didn't go, I'd have money for two or three!
Jojo - Excellent news on joining the gym. You know it'll be there when you're ready and can find the time. That always seems to keep me away from it.
In fact a couple weeks ago I joined a drop in class that runs from 9:30-10:30 in the morning and I was quite surprised to realize that I was at the very least, about 20 years younger than everybody there. I'm almost 40 so it's really not that bad, nor is the workout any easier for me than anyone else, but it's the only time I can actually go when there is a drop in class. My friends like to tease me that I'm in a seniors fitness class and sadly not the fittest! haha It's okay by me though. I'd rather do that then not go at all.
This weekend was just filled with gluttony. Pasta friday night... We went for pizza with some friends on Saturday night and had snacks when we got home and last night had giant plates of pasta.
This week will be better!
Have a great day everyone!!
I had a disappointing gain this week of 1.5 pounds. After the big loss last week, it was a bit of a downer. I know what I'm doing wrong though, so I really want to get back on track this week. I haven't went to the gym yet, but I vow to go at least a few times this week. I finally got my indoor bicycle today and will do twenty to thirty mins on it when I don't get any cardio during the day.
greeneggsandtam: That's awesome that you go to a drop in class. I really love aerobics and the gym in general I just need to make the time to go so I can get motivated again.
Hey everyone... it's been a long time since I was here! I've been super busy, working lots. We had some super nice weather so everyone was outside trying to get all of their fall stuff done. I have to say that I failed at that task... oh well, hopefully I'll still have the chance.
I still have to go back and read the posts I've missed but I wanted to pop in and say hi.
Hi Kitkat! Welcome! I am from Montreal also, what part of mtl are you in?
Hello to everyone else too!
Tam and Jojo - you ladies are brave! I don't have the courage to join a gym alone; I wish I had a partner to go with, but my treadmill is doing a fine job for the time being. I've been on everyday except yesterday, and I got back on today twice for 40 minutes each time. Burnt a total of 1445 calories on the treadmill today which wipes out all my calorie intake from today.
Jojo - how is the stationary bike going?
________________
We are having a hockey night at our place on Saturday which is going to involve pizza, nachos and dip as well as other foods... mostly men coming over and there will be three of us ladies as well so i will also be making a healthy chicken salad. I am hoping the men get through most of the food before I can even be tempted to have a second slice of pizza lol. I decided I am going to spare about 600 calories from that day for a slice of pizza and a handful of nachos. I am thinking it shouldn't do too much harm if any with all the added activity I am getting in my days now. I have been strict and have been eating healthy everyday and some of my clothes are now starting to feel pretty loose especially my pants, they are sagging on my behind! Not the prettiest sight but such a good feeling!
Burnt a total of 1445 calories on the treadmill today which wipes out all my calorie intake from today.
Hmmm ... is that really a good idea? Is that wise? Is that healthy? Is that recommended by fitness experts? That leaves a net "0" calories for the day! Do you really need to walk/run that much on the treadmill? That seems a bit extreme to me; and I'm sure 60-90 minutes each day would be just fine ... Do you think this is really sustainable? You seem like you are in a very big hurry to lose weight; maybe too much of a hurry, and I think you know that too! You know, your body will eat up your muscle doing that ...
We had ***** two days in a row now; the temps have really fallen lately. The flakes were so big yesterday that they looked like big feathers and white Maple Leafs falling from the sky ... They did all melt though; and today we awoke to some more. It it cold again and we expect some more before dawn ...
Hope you are all having a great week ... Rosebud

Rosebud - I understand and appreciate your concern but actually, experts advise that you burn more calories in a day than you actually take in, in order to lose weight. I've done the research and have a link that you or anyone interested can check out. It's actually very interesting. http://www.acaloriecounter.com/calorie-counting.php
The heavier a person is, the more calories will be burned in a shorter time frame when exercising which is why they say to increase the amount of activity once you start losing weight so your weight does not plateau because the more weight a person loses the less calories they will burn in the same amount of time they are used to exercising for. I only did 80 minutes on the treadmill today; 40 in the morning and 40 in the evening. The calorie burn was actually calculated with my heart rate watch (I am doing a 3500 calorie burn challenge (which equals to a 1 pound loss per 3500) that came with instructions when I purchased my watch which was actually designed by fitness experts).
I won't deny that I am in a hurry to lose weight but I think that is what everyone wants. I am not in a hurry to lose a significant amount of weight each week but I would like my weight loss to be consistent with an average of 2 lbs per week which would mean burning 7000 calories more than I intake during that week.
CMO2=do you do any weight training? the more muscle you have the more you burn as well. Your info sounds right for the most part but there is something about it that isn't fitting for me. I'll have to go through my notebook. I've been gathering info for 5 years and while what you wrote sounds right and what I read in the link sounds right there just something off about it. I think it's the calories you are consuming have nothing to do with the calories you are burning in a day, they have nothing to do with each other but yes you are stilling working off those calories. But whatever you doing does sound perfectly health as long as you are not fatiguing yourself and are giving yourself enough calories. So good luck!
I have all the theory but just have to put it to practice, that's the hard part!
Tam = whatever kind of dog we get it has to be hypoallergenic, my son is allergic to dogs and cats and we'll have to find one that he won't react to.
My counselor wasn't there when I went to my appointment, so I was pretty disappointed. Feeling blah right now still off and on with feeling good. I'll get right again.
Sorry I have been MIA really busy working for the next 2 weeks then I will be back regularly.Hope everyone is doing good.I am not doing so well I am sitting at 196.0 and it is not budging.I am still eating good like usual the only thing I changed is walking at night(but double then what I usually do) and doing my shred in the afternoon. Do you think this is the reason cause of the time difference I am doing my exercise?I usually did it first thing in the am?Need some thoughts please. This am I went back to doing it in the morning and moved up a level in the shred as it seemed a little easier then usual.I am so determined to loose another 10 at my exact 1 month weigh in I was down 16lbs.I want this month to be the same,I tried a coat on at the store yesterday and the XL actually zipped up it still snug but another 10 and it will fit .My coat from last winter was 2x
Good afternoon!
Everyone sounds so busy!! I'm in my little office avoiding my reading and eating carrots! I understand we are in for some snow next week. Oh well. I suppose it's about par for the course as my grandmother would say.
Cindie - Interesting question about time of day for your workouts. I have a pretty relaxed approach to weight loss (Well most things really....drives my DH crazy) But I'm of the mind that it all adds up eventually so it all counts and if it's good for you, it shouldn't matter for the time of day...That being said - I'm not in a hurry and I don't have a specific deadline or weigh ins so I understand your concern. I'll be watching this question because it's interesting, I'm a morning worker outer because it fits my schedule.
Anyways awesome about the winter coat!!! I hate buying them because I feel even bigger!
Donna - Bad news about the counselor! I hope you'll feel feel better. I always look forward to seeing a counselor, I do every couple of years when things get overwhelming. It's good for people to talk.
I just realized I said I was a morning worker outer, but I couldn't make it this morning, so I'm off to a kick boxing class today at 5:15. I've never done it before! Should be awesome.
This weekend soccer starts up once again! So excited!! I'm finally in an over 35 league!! I could barely keep up with my own team last time I played in the league, and it's nice to know I'm not the only one creaking around the pitch! lol!
Anyways trying to keep the eating in check this week and it's going fine! This is turning into a short story here so I'll just say that I hope everyones week is going well!

Burnt a total of 1445 calories on the treadmill today which wipes out all my calorie intake from today.
CMo2 ~ OK, what I thought you said was that you burned 1445 calories just on the treadmill alone (see above quote), not including what you used up just for living and walking and sleeping and breathing for the day ... the way it is written, that is what it sounded like to me.
Are you now saying that is what you used up with all your daily activity, including the treadmill? Well, that is a different matter altogether; and I am well aware that a deficit must be had in order to lose some weight -- but NO, not everyone is trying to lose weight as fast as you and CINDI are ... I don't want to lose weight that fast!
In the past when I lost weight fast, I also gained it back fast ... I really believe the slower you lose it, the less likely you will gain it back. The times I lost weight more slowly, I kept it off longer (in years). That is just my personal experience ...
We have been having very low temps here and more ***** but weather forecasters claim the will return this weekend -- sure hope they are right, it would be nice! Have a fab Friday everyone ... Rosebud

Cindie: I have a hard time working out in the morning, but according to what I've read, it is better to workout in the morning because your metabolism is highest in the morning. So if you workout you elevate your metabolism most of the day and you are burning more calories even while at rest. It certainly sounds like you are getting a lot of exercise in. Well done! I have a bet with my brother to lose ten pounds by Xmas, but that is like 9 weeks away.
CMo2: It sounds like you are getting a lot of workouts in. Congrats! And good luck at your big get together. It sounds like fun!
I have been on my stationary bike for thirty mins today and yesterday. I also did over an hour walk last night on top of that. I haven't gotten to the gym yet, but I really hope to soon.
greeneggsandtam: I love kickboxing classes! They are the ultimate workout imo. Congrats on starting soccer again! Snow...omgod. I'm not looking forward to it.
Donna: Too bad about the counselor not showing up. That's not good, but hopefully you can see her again soon. Hope you feel better soon!
Rosebud: Snow!!!! Wow, we haven't seen any here yet. Where in Ontario are you again? It is going down to 2 degrees tonight, and It is freezing out. Even know I have a hard time adjusting to the cold weather, I do look forward to skating and skiing this winter with my best friend.
I'm having a pretty good week. I'm not always tracking my points, and I need to be more on top of what exactly I'm eating so I can track my points. I went to the movies last night, and was really craving popcorn with butter. I didn't eat anything, but I ended up having a veggie burger from Burger King after the movie. I'll have to check how much calories was in that.
Well snowed about 1 cm here last night and about -6 on my walk this am gets me walking faster as I hate the cold and want to get backWell I defiantly think working out in the am changes something. All week I did it in the afternoon and the scale didn't move yesterday went back to am routine and the scale went from 196.0 all week to 195.4 this am
Jojo~You can do 10 lbs by x massI am hoping for 20lbs by x mass
Hey girls - just wanted to stop by and let you know I am still around. I've been dealing with some stuff lately and unfortunately it's kinda brought me down in a few other ways as well but I am bouncing back a bit now. I am not beating myself up over it like I have in the past. I knew what I was (or wasn't ) doing and now its time to just go one day at a time again.
The weather here hasn't been too bad but it is getting colder fast. At work I can't seem to get warm. I have to go out on site a lot so I get cold - then just start to warm up again and have to go back outside again. Yesterday I was in the office with a sweater on and layers under that and my jacket with the heat on 22C LOL. By 4 pm I was an icicle! It was the cold wind that got me yesterday. I was so glad to get home and get warm again. Gotta get used to it though as it will only get worse from here. I only have this job till January sometime unless I find something else sooner. Started looking but down here prospects are not great.
So, I am going to take time tomorrow and try to plan out a few meals for the week and see if that helps me some. Going to try and do something in the slowcooker tomorrow, just not sure what yet. That will give me a few meals too.
Saturday!!
Agh!! In my office all day AGAIN. Well I'm getting to my reading again.Which is great! But missing the last little skifts of fall. This will pay off eventually.
Anyways just a short report on kickboxing!!
YOUCH! It's bloody hard! I did that on Thursday and little tiny muscleless arms are still hurting! I brought my gym stuff to th city today so maybe....I'll work out later.
Ive been at an Anti Racist Education conference for the past two days so my brain is all filled up and I've not had time exercise. I'll see.
Okay that's all and I hope everyone is having an excellent weekend!
Tam
Sounds like everyone has been busy! I'm finally over my fundraising hump so have more time to post. (and clean my house....ugh!!) lol
Kids are due back from school any minute so I'll try to do personals...
Rosebud-I'm with you...the slower I lose weight the longer it stays off.
Donna-good luck finding a dog! I couldn't live without one anymore...although hubby always says...after THIS one we're NOT getting another (and then I show up with another! )
JoJo-Do you go skating on the canal? I used to be a flight attendant with Air Canada and used to LOVE layovers in YOW! I would take my skates and after a good work out...go and have a coffee and a beavertail! yummy!
CMo2-Sounds like you're loving your treadmill! I have a manual one set to about a 30degree incline so 10 minutes on that REALLY gets the muscles going!
Tam-You always sound so upbeat! Maybe because you're a prairie gal?!
Cindie-I notice a difference working out in the morning too. Plus...it ALWAYS gets done....and no excuse!
Alannah-Have you had your thyroid checked lately? A sign of problems is being cold all the time. Plus stress can mess it up too. Good luck on the job front...I know it sucks down here!
