Default Day 10 - Still Goin'

Hi all, I think we all deserve a pat on the back. On track and not deviating. How cool is that???

Judy, ouch on the teeth!!! I hope you have an appointment to get it fixed ASAP. I liquid diet doesn't sound too fun. at least make one of my Strawberry Smoothies (1 cup frozen strawberried, 1 c. sugar free lemonade and a couple packets of Equal). It's so springy and refreshing. Best of all, just about 50 calories.

I wrote a post about a week ago that posted and I saw it was there, and the next day it was gone. It's frustrating on the same day like yours. Re-writing it isn't fun. A day later, I just shrugged.

Penny, I love Kohl's. I have since the end of the 90's and was so excited a couple years ago when they opened on in Medford. When we lived in MN, I did all my kid's clothes shopping there on the season clearance. 80% off their lowest price was definitely near a give away. My kids had nice clothes for cheaper than if I'd gone to Salvation Army.

I swam yesterday after work. It was 42 degrees out, but the water was 84. I did a 1/2 mile (during the summer I normally do a 1/4 mile) so I was pretty happy about that. I'd also doggie walked yesterday morning and did the 1.5 miles again this morning. Tomorrow, DH and I are taking off from work and going skiing. Yeah. I can't believe the season is ending and my pass will just be a cute reminder. But there are other ski areas that are open longer - just loads of $$$.

I suppose I should work...

Penny, that was the site I was alluding to. Before it would always be starred out, but maybe 3FC is feeling more lenient these days. I'm glad you are feeling on top of things. Maybe I shouldn't tell you this, but if you can stand it, you might switch to wine spritzers instead. When I'm out that's what I ask for--a lot fewer calories, but I don't feel totally deprived. I'm not in favor of diluting really good wine, though.

Marie, thanks for the smoothie recipe! Strawberries and lemons together are a gift from the gods. You are on a roll and keeping your focus, congratulations! Sorry that your cheap ski season is coming to a close. But that just means more time in the pool!

I was quite glum (and sore ) when I left the dentist today. Part of my tooth broke off with the crown, so I may have to invest in major dental work and a new partial ($$$$) sooner rather than later. I'm not looking forward to the hassle, the pain or the bills. I tend to "awfulize" when I get news like this, and for the first time in years, I really wanted a cigarette! Now I'm just trying to accept this complication in my life, which isn't so horrible in the big scheme of things. Looking on the bright side, it's kept me from overeating today! I definitely will be crunching very carefully for a few weeks--the Dancing Carrot will be safe from me .

I did a very tiring 60-minute stability ball workout this morning. I will ride the bike for a little while this evening, maybe it will perk me up!

Have a great evening--judy

Marie - I can't believe you're swimming already! The warm water must feel good. You sure got a lot of mileage from your ski pass this year. I hope you get a few more opportunities before it warms up.

Judy - I'm so sorry to hear all the dental problems you are going through. I hope you can get them fixed soon and that you won't be too sore. Thanks for the tip about the wine spritzer. I like those sometimes with ginger ale and white wine. The bad part is I'd probably have two because I'd feel I was "saving" calories .

I'm starting to feel as though I'm losing again (after such a long hiatus). My pants are a tad looser and it's really helping to log my food intakes again. It's early afternoon, I'm not hungry and I still have 300 calories left for dinner. We usually eat our main meal at lunch. Today I made us a nice veal schnitzel, asparagus and 1/2 cup of Trader Joe's vegetable fried rice (which only has 80 calories). I think it helps a lot if we don't eat out too much. It's so hard to control the calories when you don't really know all the ingredients.
I'm going to a luncheon/meeting tomorrow at a Hawaiian Grill and I've heard the food there is pretty bad, so at least I won't be so tempted to overeat.

Hi all, I need to thank you both. I had the munchies after work and I came here and read your posts. I'm so glad you both posted.

Judy, I'm sorry about the dental work. Isn't getting older a blast??? Aches and pains just seem to come with the territory. And bills, lots of bills. I'm glad you didn't puff-puff. Slurping a chocolate shake would be better for you. Calories can be worked off. Cigarettes are so darn addicting.

Penny, good of you to be on the looser trend. It sure is nice when the pants don't cut into the waist. I'm enjoying my clothes again after only 10 days. I hope you find healthy food at your luncheon tomorrow. And I totally agree with you about eating out - I hate not knowing how many cals something has. It makes calorie management difficult.

Well, thanks again. I am no longer munchie. This thread is so great.

Checking in...I did that extra 35 minutes on the bike last night, but I paid for it this morning! No starch in my legs at all, so I passed on a morning workout. I've been doing my best to get enough fiber and veggies in without aggravating things in my poor mouth . I had oatmeal for b'fast, a slice of smoked tofu for AM snack, and a cup of ground beef over cooked spinach for lunch. I'll have a cup of fish soup later this afternoon if I need it, then a veggie burger and palak paneer (sort of an Indian creamed spinach dish) for dinner. I hadn't planned on this little gum surgery, so what I'm eating is catch as catch can, but if I'm careful, the soreness should be gone in a day or so.

Penny, I haven't thought of wiener schnitzel in a long time! It's funny how foods that were common years ago have totally fallen off the radar screen. Then again, who know I'd be eating tofu and palak paneer? Yaay for looser pants ! But I'm not sure that you're benefit much by putting sugary soda in your wine, unless you drink sugar-free ginger ale (yuck!). My spritzers are club soda and wine, which aren't all that tasty, but the bubbles are distracting, and still getting a hint of wine. Maybe you should just enjoy your one glass of wine (90 calories).

Marie, I much prefer chocolate shakes to cigs, especially if they're ice creams shake or malteds . I haven't had a smoke in years. I would probably pass out if I smoked a cigarette now. I've had these dental problems--and the arthritic aches and pains--since my early 20s, so I can't blame this on old age. I should count my blessings, I think I've spent a total of three nights in a hospital, and I've had health care most of my life, so I shouldn't complain.

Work, work, work...go get back to it. Hope everyone is doing well!

Default Day 11 - on track

Hi all, Judy, did you already have the dental surgery? I must have missed something. I hope your mouth is starting to feel better (as I don't think I could stand what you had for lunch ) Your legs are probably wobbly since you haven't been able to eat right. I know that when I'm dieting (as I am now) my quads get tired after only a few runs skiing. I guess not enough glycogen in the muscles.

Penny, I hope all is well with you. There's a possibility I'll be in Portland on saturday. Depends on whether the person with the sectional I want to buy ever returns my call...

DH and I skied today. The sky was vibrant blue and it contrasted beautifully against the white mountain and bright green evergreens. It was awesome. We did 17 runs and my legs are pooped. I could feel them after about 5 runs, but then they started getting used to it. I stayed on track and figured I burned about 700 calories (according to my database). We did 17 runs at about 5 minutes a run, 700 cals. I'm thinking when they say 600 cals (or whatever it is per hour), I can't include sitting on the lift.

Well, back to work tomorrow, then weekend. Taking a day off in the middle of the week is so decadent.

Just a quickie for me. I'm off to the hospital to have a leg vein removed today - how fun. It goes over my kneecap and is quite painful so I'll be glad to get rid of it. Yesterday's meeting went well food wise but on the way home a pebble chipped my windshield and a car hit my bumper when I was stopped at a light. My license plate holder was cracked, so since there wasn't any major damage I let the guy get away with it - he looked so relieved! Kind of reminded me of my son. I'm regretting it a bit this morning though as my upper back was a bit sore last night. Keeping my fingers crossed that it goes away soon.

Judy - I hope your sore mouth is better. It must be hard to pick healthy foods when soft gooey ones are easier on your mouth.

Marie - Looks like the stars won't be aligned for us to meet again this weekend. I'll be bandaged up and out of action for a few days after my surgery. I'm looking forward to seeing you on one of your future trips up here.

Have a great weekend!

Gee, Marie, I hope you never plan to visit me, given the bad karma it gives poor Penny . Penny, I hope you are feeling better soon. What's the vein surgery like? When I get down below 170 lbs, I want to explore getting these big ropey varicose veins removed from my calves, purely from a vanity standpoint.

You didn't miss a big announcement, Marie. Without going into all the gory details, I'll just say that the cap couldn't be installed over the broken tooth without searing away a bit of my gum with a laser! I thought it could be fixed up with some glue or something, but alas, that was much too simple to expect. Still a mite painful today, but with a little Advil I was able to have a chopped salad at California Pizza Kitchen, which would have been torture before.

I'm cruising along on program, despite the challenges. I did a hard 40 minute workout this morning, and am eating well (just nothing too hard or chewy). TOM started earlier this week, and I can tell that I'm retaining a bit of water. I'm most pleased that I've been good about my log, for the first time in a while. I really hope that I can record a bit of a loss, if not a whoosh, in the next few days.

I wish I had a fun weekend planned. Alas, I'll be working for most of it--I've got to catch up on a backlog of office paperwork and planning on Saturday, and I have to participate in a seminar on Sunday. But I should be able to come by and check in at least once.

Carol, are you coming back soon? Geez, I hope you aren't flying on American Airlines, what a mess!

Hi all

Judy, eeks. that sounds horrible. Great job on the workout. I have a few spider feins, but they are really tiny. My sister had the stripping and she still has to wear support hose. Icky. I can see why you'd want them gone.

And I'm off the hook for the bad carma as the guy didn't call me back about the portland sectional until a half hour after the ebay one was won by me. S I'm going Farivield, CA and Reno tomorrow. We're delivering DS1's bed and our two recliners, then driving I80 past Sacramento. If I survive tomorrow on track, I will be lucky indeed.

Penny, I hope your back starts feeling better. Why did the guy hit you??? Was he on his cell phone???

Eating today was/is right on and I did 2.5 miles WATP.

Judy - You are doing great staying on track despite your challenges. It's so easy to slip into "nurturing" ourselves with food when we don't feel well and starting off another cycle of bad food choices.

Marie - My back seems to be better, thanks. I don't know if the guy was on his phone as I wasn't looking in my rear mirror when it happened. Luckily he wasn't going any faster or it could have been a LOT worse. I hope you have a nice time on your trip this weekend. I saw that Medford is expecting 80 deg. today and we're supposed to reach 75. What a difference to the weather we've had lately!

My surgery went well. I'm a bit sore, which is to be expected and I have a very bulky bandage from ankle to hip. It will be great to have the dressings off on Monday. Luckily, my insurance covered it as it was causing me a lot of discomfort on my kneecap. Judy, if you decide to get the procedure done one day, it's best to build up a case by going to a vascular specialist and wearing support hose for a few months as some insurance companies will pay for it so long as you can prove some discomfort. I'm not allowed to do any exercise for two weeks so I'll have to be extra careful not to start blimping up!

Penny, that's a heckuva bandage you're wearing today! I hope the surgery does the trick, and you're back up and moving comfortably soon. I'll remember your advice about building a case. Sometimes the varicose veins itch a bit, but the only thing they hurt is my eyes . Don't worry about "blimping up"--you're good about tracking what you eat, so as long as you don't eat any more than you would normally, the pound or to you might pick up will go away as soon as you start burning calories again. You can do it!

Marie, I hope your road trip is going well! Getting new furniture is always fun.

I'm doing well today. I did yoga this morning, and will do something cardio this evening.

Not at all a day of rest...but I've had a good day so far. I had to catch an early train to go to an event for work, but I found time for a 20-minute cardio video at 6:15 AM . I was in an especially good mood because (drum roll, puh-leeze!) my weight was 215 this morning . I will probably bump up and down on the scale over the next week, but it was great to see a new number, and I'm going to go ahead and change my profile, yaay! My goal is to be at or below 210 before Memorial Day. I've been losing weight so slowly, but now this goal seems within reach. My presentation went well, and I did rode 55 minutes on the exercise bike this afternoon, which was a new personal best.

So I'm feeling good! I hope everyone else is, too.

Default Day 14 - still on track...

The trip was really long but productive. The new sectional is in awesome shape. I mean, it looks brand new. I didn't expect that. The leather doesn't have any marks or tears. They have dogs and didn't allow them on the couch. BTW, Miss Blizzie Bee is lounging quite comfortably at my feet (which are also up on the couch). Oh, we're so bad.

So yesterday's food intake was 1950 cals. I aim for 1700 a day (haven't quite made that but usually around 1600-50). We got up at 4:00 am and breakfast by 4:30. So by reg breakfast time I was so hungry. And we didn't get home till nearly midnight. So there was a bit of extra awake hours for extra consumption and I only went over my goal by 250 cals. I'm thrilled with that. Not to mention, whenever we road trip, it's my belief to munch my way across America. So I did really good yesterday. No exercise, though. Today I was right back on track and feel good.

Judy, you must be looking so awesome. 215!!!! Congratulations. I bet with your dedication to exercise, your body is probably quite toned as well. I'm very proud of your amazing progress.

Penny, I'm glad your back is better and that the surgery went good. The bandages come off tomorrow - not too much longer. I hope it takes the pain away. My sister always has to have her feet up and I'm guessing you do too. Can you do some arm exercises, like light free weights just to give your metabolism a boost?

DH, DS2 and I went biking for the first time this season. I was a bit nervous as I haven't been on Ruby Red Rider (aka by my kids as Bloody Red Rider) since my accident last August. DH altered the front brake that I'd grasped too tight and cause the flipping over the handlebars. It was so much better. We went 8 miles. My legs are tired. Last August we were going 17 miles but bking uses different muscles than walking and skiing. It was gorgeous out (as Penny mentioned - BTW Penny, it was 90 degrees in Vacaville, CA yesterday). And Judy, I did use sunscreen both days.

Well, have a great night and we'll chat tomorrow.

Judy - You must be feeling great to have reach 215 - way to go! As Marie said, you're probably a lot more toned from all that exercise you've been doing. Good for you reaching your personal best on the treadmill too. I know how much harder it is to reach these exercise goals with the aches and pains of arthritis, so it's even more of an achievement. You're enthusiasm is rubbing off on me!

Marie - I'm glad you had such a good trip and even got a nice new sectional. We also have leather furniture because of the cats - it stands up great and they are not interested in clawing it. I wouldn't want to go back to fabric chairs now as I find the leather very comfortable. Good for you pretty much staying on track on your road trip. It must have been a bit nerve wracking getting back on your bike the first time after your accident but it sounds like you're confident again. Yes, I do usually keep my legs elevated. I don't have any other varicose veins but I have poor circulation and lots of spider veins, so it feels more comfortable to keep them up. I have to control myself not to put my feet up on friends' coffee tables when I visit!

I've been keeping on track with my calories and have had a bit of exercise doing some light gardening (probably a no-no) but I just couldn't resist getting outside in the dirt with our lovely weather. I can't wait to get my itchy bandages off tomorrow.

Have a great week everyone!

Oh, hooray, a tedious two-hour afternoon meeting has just been cancelled, just what I love to hear on a Monday! Things are looking up. The cable guy came by early this morning so now I can get all the normal channels, and in color (!) but the HD-DVR boxes are "still on back order." And there was no hot water for a shower. And they're jack-hammering away the drive in front of my building. All in all, an annoying morning. I did a 45-minute stability ball workout, and am on eating on program. My gums are almost done complaining, so I should be chewing away happily in another day or two

Penny, thanks! I can see muscle definition in a few places, like my shoulders, but while I can feel it in my thighs, a lot more fat will have to come off before anyone else could see muscle tone I'm glad that you're already feeling good enough to push yourself a little. Enjoy getting the bandages off today!

Marie, you did great on your road trip! I remember your saying a while back that's if very hard not to munch while your sitting so long in the car. I envy you on the Ride Rider. I never learned to ride a bike! It's that nutty?
