Wednesday evening--Hi all, sorry but this will have to be a short note tonight. Planted gardens all day, and I am just too pooped to keep my eyes open much longer. We went to my Mom's and planted 4 rows of 35 hills each of potatoes!! Now isn't that the stupidest thing you have ever heard.....I haven't eaten a potato in almost 2 years!! Came home and got our lettuce (2 different kinds), carrots, beets, and 1 row of spuds for dh. Still have to put my squash in. Then will have to wait for some warmer weather and then put in plants of cucumbers, cabbage, tomatoes.
WIW was good to me.... down 2 pounds this week. I thought I hadn't been eating enough, but something gave!! Only 13 more to go for my first goal!!
Congrats to all the loser's and maintainer's...... to the rest of you, I know it will be better next week.....hang in there!!
I found a recipe for WW biscuits on the web. It is sooooo good and super easy. I cut the recipe in half and it made 4 biscuits. I post it on our recipe board.
Deb: I love lots of spices in food, but do not know where to start with what spices goes with what food (other than italian and oriental or mexican). I would love to be more adventurous, but don't want to ruin anything when I cook. Food is too expensive to do that. I would love to try some curries too.
Well, it's late and I still need to post this recipe for the ww biscuits and put some things into FitDay for tomorrow.
Checking in to say hi. My ds is graduating from college Sunday in Ohio so we will be leaving Friday night. At least we are flying this time. Spent last weekend at the lacrosse tournament in Hilton head. DH is out of town, so I've been running around trying to get everything done.
Deb-It has been about 90 here this week -- hard to do anything outside, especially when you add in the bugs. I am still exercising though, just early in the a.m.
Kim-Did the Reds play last night? My son was going to go down for the game.
All this gardening I'm reading about sounds like fun.
Congrats to all the losers. I maintained.
Jackie-You are really shrinking away. Maybe all your nervous energy helped you lose this week. Have a great time this weekend.
Hello to everyone else.
LIN---Have a great trip! The weather has been wet for days. They are calling for the same this weekend. I hope for your sake that they are wrong. Yes, the Reds played last night. There was an adorable high school age girl sitting in front of us who was from Columbus! She had driven down with a guy who looked to be 17 or 18 (I'm not sure what their relationship to each other was.), but they were so nice. Wouldn't that be amazing if it had been your son????!!!!! Be sure and ask him where he sat. If he was along the left field wall, we will have to do further investigating. We talked to the young girl a lot. She was a Cardinal fan and was talking with Paul because he's one too.
Well, my WIW wasn't great. Up 2 lbs. But my scale had been moved(it was showing 5lbs up before I even got on!) and I may not have put it back to exactly where it was originally. PLUS good ole TOM decided to show up early last night.
We're really busy with our investment property and hope to get it on the market early next week.
I haven't really had a chance to read the board since last week, so HELLO to everyone!
JACKK--Have a wonderful time at your daughter's wedding! I'm sure everything will be wonderful!
Monet feels like crap today. Too many no no's last night. All I could manage for breakfast was a piece of dry toast and some warm tea.
I am waiting on my son to show up. He borrowed my car last night, and is supposed to be back over here before he has to go to work so I can drop him off. He has a terrible tendency to be late, so I am hoping he makes it with enough time to get him there on time.
Still gray and overcast and VERY humid and wet here. I would love a bit of sunshine. I am very tired of rain!
Tonight will probably be another fiasco in eating. We are going to the Shakespeare Tavern to see 'Murder In The Cathedral'. Their menu is not exactly SB friendly. I imagine my sister and I will want to try their Pasties. My mother used to make them and they were a big family favorite. I make them occasionally, and my family loves them too, but they are filled with potatoes, and made with a suet crust. A Glycemic nightmare!
Sitting here, half naked, wrapped in a towel to catch all the drippy sweat pouring off my body. Got in my 4.5 miles in 52:38 today. Actually jogged a bit more than I have in a long time but was slower at it as well. It's just so hot out there I have to give myself a pat on the back just for going. Didn't sleep well once again last night which probably didn't help matters.
I was really terrible with my water drinking yesterday and vow to do better today. I think I may have possibly gotten in a 1/4 cup of liquids all day. I didn't realize it until I was about to go to sleep and felt a bit thirsty - DUH! I guess I should of figured it out when I see the toilet water orange! Double DUH!
Off to a good start today, so hoping it will continue-bottle of water is right in front of me as I type, I'm staring at it, and have just decided after each paragraph I write I will drink some! (chuga-luga)
Eating is continuing to go great, I can't complain a bit and I'm my own worst critique as well as tattle-tale. Oh, we ended up staying home last night. ELI said he'd be home in an hour and when an hour and a half had passed with no ELI coming in the door I took the opportunity to start making myself something to eat so I could get out of going out. And besides, by the time he came home at 8:10 to get out the door, drive to the restaurant, get a seat, order and get the food, it would of been well past 9pm and I don't like eating that late, so it worked out well. I made a thin pork chop Shake-n-Bake style and it was delicious! I (still) have some whole grain bread crumbs from a loaf of bread I got last year when I saw MONET in Atlanta and I use a bit of that, some parm. cheese, salt, pepper and garlic powder mixed together. Rinse the chop in water and then coat it with the mixture then spray it will olive oil cooking spray and bake it til crisp-delish! I don't think ELI was so happy not going out but too bad. He ended up making potatoes for himself.
I'll probably go over and volunteer at the ministry today. They're suppose to be getting a huge truck today. It seems that they are getting all the area PUBLIX cast offs. I get some great buys, and who cares if the cans are dented or boxes a bit crushed, it's still edible! They get the day old bread items that they can't sell anymore and that, they give the bread away. Any desserts they give each family one of them until they run out. They have whole grain breads from a bakery factory as well which are actually SB LEGAL, but I really don't bother with them since I'm not much of a bread eater.
TODAY IS RECIPE DAY! If you haven't ventured over to the QUARTERLY RECIPE BOARD lately you should. I've been adding recipes on there whenever I have the chance and today I'll add a few more I have in my filing cabinet. I've got in so many new books but just haven't had the time to go through them to post recipes from them. With all the books I have I still have a huge list of ones I'm searching for. I really need to get them in one place-they are all over the house as there are so many of them, I mean hundreds! One day I'm going to take inventory count of them all
I keep forgetting to mention this pizza I found at WILD OATS! I bought it so long ago and it was in the freezer for months. Decided last week to try it (when I wasn't being so good and before climbing my fat arse back on the wagon) and it was delish. LAUREN was begging for more than the taste I gave her and she ended up eating a good bit of it, and thankfully so, it was way too much for one person to eat. It's a pizza called STILLWELL'S STONE FIRED PIZZA The one I bought was CHICKEN & ARTICHOKE. It's 12.5 ounces and there's 3 servings per pizza.
Nutritional facts as follows (per 1/3 of pizza):
Calories: 270
Total Fat: 12g
Sat. Fa: 7g
Total Carbs: 26
Fiber: 1
Sugras: 2
Protein:13
Ingerdients:
CRUST: organic wheat flour, water, organic stone ground whole wheat flour, organic canola oil, yeast, sea salt
TOPPING: part-skim Mozzaella cheese, chicken meat, sea salt, feta cheese, artichokes, black olives, sun dried tomatoes, green onion, parsley, tomato.
NOW, let me just say, that even though the crust ingredients mention organic wheat flour, that does NOT mean it's SB LEGAL. See, what I have learned is that companys can call white flour whole wheat flour because that's what it started out as - sneaky devils in the food industry BUT, this could also be ww pastry flour, just not sure. BUT, and here's the main but. Do remember this, as all of this food is combined the GLYCEMIC LOAD of this would probably be quite low. We are not eating ww flour alone. Plus, this is a lot better alternative to the fresh or frozen pizza's out there that we may indulge in, esp. if you are just dying for pizza. I may try to e-mail the company to find out about the ww flour and will let you know what response I get when I do. If anyone is interested, they do have a website which also lists the stores you can find their pizza's by by state: http://www.stonefiredpizza.com/gpage6.html
MONET, cake sounds like it came out cute. I've seen those wafer paper at the store, at least that's what I think it is, it looks like colored copy paper? You probably felt like you at more pizza than you did due to the heaviness of the ww flour, don't you think? Enjoy your time with your sister, sounds like it won't be long enough for you both though. Do your best when you go out
TEENSY, CONGRATS on being down 2lbs!!! Sounds like you are quite the gardner up there! Unfortunately, I have a black thumb and can kill silk! The only thing we ever get going are herbs. I think we have some mint growing out there. Parsley is needed as we use that a lot, but I leave ELI to tend to that stuff. We use to have a garden and grew a few things and it went to pot, real fast. What kind of squash are you going to plant?
SHEANNE, I checked out the recipe and it sounds really good. I'm not a bread lover but I do like biscuits. Gosh, you'd love ELI's cooking, he always makes delicious foods that have lots of flavor. He claims I make hospital food.
LIN, congratulations to your DD! Have a safe trip and have a good time. What kind of degree did she get? Where in Ohio are you going to travel to?
ZANNE, I had to laugh when I read about your placement of your scale. Mine too has to be in the same exact spot. Then I have to tap on it a couple times to make sure it's truly at "0" before I hop on it. Hope you make a good profit from the property!!!
Well, I'm caught up, wasn't hard to do today I'll check in later on today at some point.
Hey, I was able to down 1.5 liters of water while I wrote this post
I'm on the run again to-day. I'm off to bowling this morning and have to leave in a few minutes. Sorry I didn't get back yesterday but I had a letter from the tax-man telling me I owed him more money so sat down and re-did my taxes after I got home from badminton last evening. Had to see where they were getting their figures from. I had done my taxes on the computer but they got screwed up somehow.
Just wanted to quickly hop in here and warn you about dented cans of food. They could have a microscopic hole in it along the dent and that can make the contents of the can spoil. You don't want to get food poisoning--it's really not nice.
Just something someone told me years ago. Thought I'd pass it along.
Morning all! It's rainy here in east central Alabama, but at least it is not, so far, stormy.
Got the chicked salad done--I made a double batch so that they could put one casserole in the freezer for next week. For those of you that are interested in the recipe--that should be "sliced" water chestnuts, not "slicked." My bad.
Sheanne--hang in there--we do then to retain water when it first gets warm--keep drinking it and it will steele back soon.
Jecrites--I hope you are getting settled in--and dry!
Grin--WTG on your loss! WooHoo!
Kim--Hope you had fun at the game!
Jackie--maybe all the adrenlan in consuming your calories--this week has got to be stressful even though you seem to have things under control. Will be thinking about you--hope the wedding is as lovely and as special as you are!
Jane--Krispy Kremes are the most evil food on the planet!!!! In the south we've been dealing with this all our lives--especially when you drive by and the "hot doughnut" sign is on. Sigh. It's something we've all done and you ARE NOT a failure! You just had a slip and you can get right back on program today!
BOB--When do you see the specialist? I know you are miserable--hope the new meds help!
SEF--the hot chicken salad is good--one of my favorites though I rarely fix it unless I have company because I get tired of eating it after a couple of days!
Ashley--WTG on your 1 lb loss! Hang in there--we are with you!
Deb--The storms, so far, have been north of us--up in Beth's part of the state. According to the news they are having some pretty severe flooding.
Beth--you OK up in Huntsville?
Monet--Your cake sounds fabulous! I hope you have fun with your sister! What dinner theater are you going to? There are several of us here that have been trying to get a group together for an evening at Agatha's. Have you ever been there?
Teensy--Um, 35 hills of potatoes??????? Do you do zuchnni? I have a great recipe for zuchni pickles--that can be adabpted and made SB legal--they are mighty tasty!
Linworth--enjoy your DD's graduation! You must be so thrilled and proud! Have a safe trip.
Marie--uh-oh the dreaded letter from the tax man! You have my sympathies!
Today is my long day at the church so I better get going. Tonight is the last weekly church dinner for the summer--yeah! It all white starcehs--I rarely eat then have to go home at 7:00 and whip something up. I have some salad and a baked chicken breast in the fridge so I may take that with me for lunch!
Okay, got a few recipes posted on the board. Can't vouch for any of them, never tried a one, so you're on your own
ROSALIE, I hope the mistake with the taxes won't end up costing you a fortune. Will you have to pay any kind of a penalty?
ZANNE, I know about the cans and I don't buy cans that are REALLY bad off. I'll but lightly dented ones, plus I check the can to make sure it's not bloated. Much of their stuff is overstock as well. I got some of the milk I buy that doesn't need refridgeration until you open it for .50cents a box, nothing wrong with it except the boxes are wrinkly-that's a great deal! I've got lots of great bargains in there, even got some brand new expensive pillows as well, they get some stuff from POTTERY BARN among other places.
FILLISE, hope you don't get any worse weather than you already have. Wonder how BETH is doing, esp. after seeing those pictures-it seemed bad enough already up her way. Just make sure it doesn't come south please!!!
Actually ended up eating salmon for brunch - it was delish! I made the other piece and put that in tin foil for tomorrow's lunch. I think I'll do the other pork chop for din-din tonight, that was good too.
Just checking in......I am so glad this week is almost over. I have been bad, bad, bad, bad..........I want to get back to some serious planning this weekend.
Deb: when I do plan next weeks menu I may send it to you for your input.
Question: I know I should know this but I am blanking out.....what is the ratio 30/40/30???? 30 Fat, 40 Carbs and 30 Prot????
Do any of you have 3 carbs a day. For example I have Kashi for breakfast with strawberries, SGWW bread for lunch (2 slices) and maybe my Oat Bran Pretzels for a snack. I think that is too many carbs.
What should my sugar intake for the day be? Total or percentage.
I am having wicked cravings this week TOM is creeping up on me!
Oh by the way, I tried the Eskimo Pie Ice Cream Sandwiches last night....the ones that are sugar free and low fat. YUKKKKKK!
They taste very artificial. I will try them again some night and see if I change my opinion. Don't run out and buy them!
I got a great thing in the mail last night!!! I recently paid off my car loan. They sent me the title! How exciting. I have only ever paid off 2 cars in my life. I usually get news ones before they are paid off. My husband and I decided to keep our cars this year and try and save a little money. The heck with that......SHOPPING HERE I COME!
Well, I am off to lunch. Today I am having SGWW Sourdough bread (2 slices) BLT. I have 3 slices of center cut bacon, lettuce, tomato and lite mayo. A friend is picking me up a pickle at the deli. Sour....hope it is ok.
Tonight I am making scallops. Anyone have any ideas for a marinade or seasoning? I will have brown rice pilaf with them. See....too many carbs!
Fillise - Thanks for posting the chicken salad recipe. I made it yesterday (minus the water chestnuts) and served it on top of a green salad with some slivered almonds on top. It was scrumptious.
Deb - No, I want have to pay a penalty as long as I pay them before the end of the month. I did my taxes on paper first as I wanted to have an idea what I owed them - I new it was a lot as I semi-retired and continued working last year - but then I did it again with TaxWiz and thought I was saving myself some money as they worked out that I owed less than I had figured out. Turns out we were both wrong, hence I have to pay more. .
Off to eat lunch and out again to pick up a few things at the grocery store.
We're still above sea level up here! We had a ton of rain, and more thunder and lightning that I've seen in the last year combined, but I LOVE thunder and lightning, so I was fine with it!
None of the tornados were close to our house, and our yard is finally drying out enough to walk on it again! LOL!! We still have some streets that are flooded, but we're supposed to get undercontrol by the end of the week. My dogs are MUDballs. My KIDS are MUDballs!
I've been OP for 2 days, and even with TOM the scale is showing down a pound... so we'll see where I am next WIW... I have a week to keep it off and add a couple more to it maybe
Thanks for thinking of us up here... hope everyone else is ok!!
Thought I'd get in a post between getting kids from school. Already p/u MICHAEL and have to go back at 5:30 again to p/u LAUREN-it's one of those days
Went and volunteered at the ministry-they got in a huge truckload of food but we didn't put anything out. Trying to get what's out organized-it's hard to keep it that way though as we never know what's going to arrive the next time a shipment comes in.
JANE, you are correct with the ratios. Many days I do have 3 carbs, it just depends on what I'm in a hankering for. I'm not a big bread lover but I may have 1 slice of bread or a tortilla, then my other starchy carbs are usually something like Fiber One. That's 4 carbs you listed, the Kashi, 2 slices bread and the pretzels. Sugar intake depends on caloric intake but you don't have to get crazy with that, just try to keep your intake down to 3 grams or less per serving of any food, though I do have this info from one website:
How Much Can You Feed Your Sweet Tooth?
Sugars found naturally in fruits and milk are not a problem. It’s the added sugars that need to be limited because they provide calories but few vitamins and minerals. You’ll find sugar-laden food at the top of the Food Pyramid. Added sugars can be found in soft drinks, candy, jams, jellies, syrups and table sugar we add to coffee and cereal. Added sugar can also appear in sweetened yogurt, soups, spaghetti sauces, applesauce and other items where you wouldn’t suspect it unless you check the list of ingredients.
USDA recommendations: Adults should get [coloor=red]no more than 6 to 10 percent of their daily calories from sugar. (It's OK to eat no refined sugar at all)[/color]
USDA recommends limiting added sugars - from packaged foods and the sugar bowl to:
24 grams a day (6 teaspoons) if you eat 1,600 calories
40 grams (10 teaspoons) for a 2,000-calorie diet
56 grams (14 teaspoons) for a 2,400 calorie diet
72 grams (18 teaspoons) for a 2,800-calorie diet.
Don't worry about the natural sugars from fruit and milk.
Try increasing your protein during that TOM when you have cravings. Congrats on paying off your car! Sorry, I can't help you with the scallops, remember, I can't cook!
ROSALIE, that's good that you don't have to pay a penalty, but it sucks that you have to shell out extra money. I haven't done my taxes and was told I don't even have to do them as long as I have no income. That saved me $75!
BETH, thanks for letting us know you aren't on Noah's Ark as of yet. Good for you for staying OP for 2 days - get one more day under your belt and you should be really good to go and well on your way again
