HiedieHo All!!

My, my the morning has flown! Doing wash, cleaned the kitchen, amde an omelet and started beef stew, went to Walgreen's and post office. Time for a sit-down!

MIATA: You can do it girl. We just have to put our minds to it! I'm trying to mind real good!

JACKK: You make me homesick for my mountains. A walk in on a snowy night is the best! Thanx for words on GD. As you know I worked with head trauma and many patients were there from what would seem a simple accident, so I always think of my training when anything happens and check people out!

DEB: Cars can be repaired and thank goodness for insurance, which we all hate to pay. DS went to shop yesterday to see the damage for himself. The estimate at that point was up to 7000 and they weren't finished checking it out! Supposed to be done by the end of next week, but you know how that goes. Our insurance covers a rental with a $5 co-pay, so I will not be without a car. Did not see GD before she headed out to school so don't know how she feels....apparently well enough for school. Kids driving are a worry, but so is most of their lives for us; you just go with the flow and hope something you taught them sunk in! Prayers for you GGA and GPs.

MOM2: How difficult for you traveling to hospitals etc. My DD was born with mouth deformities and we had regular three hour trips one way to a cleft papalte clinic in Lancaster PA. But you do it gladly to get the help required.

QUIV: Coconut is a no-no soooooooooooooo. I had found pasta made from rice flour and thought that was a good thing, but someone said they have a high glycemic rating.

Let's see, today actually is FF, can I think of something?

************************************************** **

I went to the store the other day, and I was in there for only about 5 minutes. When I came out there was a damn motorcycle cop writing a_parking ticket. So I went up to him and said, "Come on, buddy, how about giving a girl a break?"

He ignored me and continued writing the ticket. So I called him a pencil-necked ****. He glared at me and started writing another ticket_for having worn tires! So I called him a piece of horse ****. He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first. _Then he started writing a third ticket! This went on for about 20 minutes. _The more I abused him, the more tickets he wrote.

I didn't care. My car was parked around the corner.

I try to have a little fun each day. It's important.

Have you ever wondered where and how yodeling began?

Many years ago a man was traveling through the mountains of Switzerland. Nightfall was rapidly approaching and he had nowhere to sleep. He came upon a farmhouse and asked the farmer if he could spend the night. The farmer told him that he could sleep in the barn. As the story goes, the farmer's daughter came down from upstairs and asked her father, "Who was that man going into the barn?"

"That's some fellow traveling through," said the farmer. "He needed a place to stay for the night, so I said that he could sleep in the barn."

The daughter said, "Perhaps he is hungry." So she prepared him a plate of food and took it out to the barn. About an hour later, the daughter returned, her clothing disheveled and straw in her hair. Straight up to bed she went.

The farmer's wife was very observant. She suggested that perhaps the man was thirsty. So she fetched a bottle of wine, took it out to the barn, and she too did not return for an hour. Her clothing was askew, her blouse buttoned incorrectly, and her hair all messed up. She also headed straight to bed.

The next morning at sunrise the man in the barn got up and continued on his journey, waving to the farmer as he left. When the daughter awoke and learned that the visitor was gone, she broke into tears. "How could he leave without even saying goodbye," she cried, "after we made such passionate love last night?"

"What?" shouted the father and angrily ran out of the house looking for the man, who by now was halfway up the mountain.

The farmer screamed up at him; "I'll horsewhip you! You seduced my daughter!"

The man looked back down from the mountainside, cupped his hands around his mouth, and yelled .

"LAIDTHEOLDLADEETOO!"

************************************************** **

NINE MONTHS LATER

Jack decided to go skiing with his buddy, Bob. They loaded up Jack's mini-van and headed north. After driving for a few hours, they got caught in a terrible blizzard. They pulled into a nearby farm and asked the attractive lady who answered the door if they could spend the night.

"I realize it's terrible weather out there and I have this huge house all to myself, but I'm recently widowed," she explained. "I'm afraid the
neighbors will talk if I let you stay in my house."

"Don't worry," Jack said. "We'll be happy to sleep in the barn. And if the weather breaks, we'll be gone at first light."

The lady agreed, and the two men found their way to the barn and settled in for the night. Come morning, the weather had cleared, and they got on their way. They enjoyed a great weekend of skiing.

About nine months later, Jack got an unexpected letter from an attorney. It took him a few minutes to figure it out, but he finally determined that it was from the attorney of that attractive widow he had met on the ski weekend.

He dropped in on his friend Bob and asked, "Bob, do you remember that good-looking, wealthy widow from the farm we stayed at on our ski holiday up north?"

"Yes, I do."

"Did you happen to get up in the middle of the night, go up to the house and pay her a visit?"

"Yes," Bob said, a little embarrassed about being found out. "I have to admit that I did."

"And did you happen to use my name instead of telling her your name?"

Bob's face turned red and he said, "Yeah, sorry, buddy. I'm afraid I did.

Why do you ask?"

"She just died and left me everything."

(And you thought the ending would be different, didn't you?) Keep smiling!!!

Deb - sorry to hear about your aunt. I do hope for you and for your family that the end is peaceful.

Wow - all those gals (and guys) running in Orlando - maybe next year this ole granny will be in shape to join you

Mom2 - many many years ago, my son was a student at UofF and was treated for a major illness at Shands - they have a great staff there.

Hi everyone!

I have been running around all day. I had coffee this morning with a friend, (and drank it black! Hooray me!) and visited with her for a while. Then I had to take my tire to the tire store to get the flat fixed. They said it could not be fixed, so that was a wasted trip. Then I stopped at the grocery store, and got the stuff I needed to make stuffed Poblano peppers for dinner, and got a bunch of prescriptions renewed. Came home and hubby called. He informed me he has heartburn and does not want the peppers for dinner. Well, dang! Now I got to think of something else!

I have been reading Michel Montignac's Eat Yourself Slim and I am learning some things I did not know. In his phase one, he recommends you not eat anything with a GI of over 35. Whole wheat bread is about 50. With this in mind, I am considering how I need to revamp my eating to heal my hyperinsulinemia problems.

I am still tiring out fast. I did not take a nap today, and I really feel it! I go to the doctor for my last recheck on the mono, and if there are continuing problems, like chronic fatigue syndrome, I hope he can catch it and deal with it.

Welcome to the newbies!

Good afternoon everyone. Just got back from shopping, so I've been running all day. Well I've made it four days OP... Did anyone watch Oprah yesterday? I thought her show on weight was good and I learned a couple of things.... The first I'm going to try is not eating after 7:30 at night. I've also been doing my treadmill for 4 days and hope I keep it up.

Debilli- Glad you had a good day with Eli.... Its awfully sad about your Aunt. I'm glad for her getting to go home though. Thats where I'd want to be. Oh you make me so envious about your avocados!!! I just paid over a dollar for one today while out shopping... It better be good. I sure hope you ladies have a great time on your get together and sure do wish everyone well on the run. Wow what fun that would be. Congradulations on your weight loss, you're sure doing good..

Melf- I have that cookbook but found I just hated stevia. My sis is a diabetic and she uses stevia so I gave her mine.

Jennifer- Sounds like you are soooo busy. Enjoy your time alone....

Denise- Would love to see your camping pictures... Sounds like you've been going and going too!!! Hope you have a great time in Florida.

Sef- I'm so glad your DIL is okay. What a scarey thing to happen...

miata- Good to see you posting. You can do it gal!!

Jack-K- You're on your way girl... That home gym is going to do it for you... I'd love to have one... Gee wonder where I'd put it... Anyway keep up the good work.

Mom2Marsh-Can't wait to hear how the fudge turns out. I might try it if you say its good....

Beth- Hang in there girl, be strong go for a walk. Breathe in....

GatorGal-You've sure been busy, wish I could get the energy or something to do all that work....

Quivondra- I'll bet we can lost 3lbs. by the end of January. I'm hopeing for more. That gym will sure help you. I walk on my treadmill. You can only have rice if its brown and not instant and only whole wheat noodles. I love the brown rice and never miss white.

Guess I'll run hope I didn't forget anyone. Have a nice evening..

Default It's finally Friday!

What a weird and wild week this has been! I'm kind of glad it's over and I'm ready for things to get back to normal. We're short-staffed in the office (just spent the last 2 hours playing receptionist) and of course this is one of the busiest times of the year for us.

I've had 2 days of eating 100% OP. Hooray for me! Last night dinner was white beans with some sausage cut up in it. Made kind of a white bean/sausage stew I guess. I had done the sausage on the grill and just ate mine all mixed together. DH is so funny. He keeps saying he's on Atkins, but he eats pretty much the same stuff I do and I know that I'm not on Atkins. Not sure what dinner is tonight but plan on keeping it legal. Now if I can just get back in the exercise habit.

Gracious - Glad to see you back, we've missed you.

Melf - Got the pic!

Beth - The job sounds like fun. When I was in high school I did medical transcribing for a radiologist. It was actually pretty interesting. You're right about how tragic this time of year can be and how precious all of our time together is. When Jordan is out, I constantly worry until I hear him come in. I don't know how I'll handle it when he leaves and won't be coming in every night to tell Mom goodnight. He and his girlfriend went to a party New Years Eve that was an overnighter. At first I wasn't thrilled with the overnight part but then after making sure parents were there and watching I actually felt better that they weren't going to be out on the road that night.

Lin - Welcome back!

Toni - I love soup especially this time of year. Did you guys get the snow that fell around Christmas time? My brother and his wife live in Seneca and they brought pics of it. I think they got 14 inches.

Mom2Marsh - Welcome aboard.

Serene - Are you going to have to sit on Tranquil to make her take care of herself. No sickees at the get-together! She has to get well.

TV - Glad to see you back as well.

Heartmom - Spill it girl, we want pics of the mudfight!

Sweetbeater - I guess I'll throw my thoughts in on the holiday cheating. To me this is not a diet and not just a way of eating but a way of life. I made a conscious decision during the holidays that for me, instead of feeling deprived if there was something that I really, really wanted then I was going to have a little of it. Sometimes it was a bite, other times it was a whole meal. Then I got right back on track. I actually managed to lose a pound over the holidays. I didn't feel guilty, depressed, or deprived.

Deb - I tried posting it on the board, but I never could figure it out. Feel free to post the one that I emailed to you if you want. I'm so sorry to hear about your aunt. No matter how prepared we think we are, it's never easy. Our thoughts are with you.

Jennifer - How did they like the movie. Some friends saw it and said it was great. I don't like gory movies, but I do like thrillers and suspense movies.

Denise - Sounds like you had a great time over the holidays. The West Indies will be fun but you're going to have more fun with us!!

Sef - So glad that no one was hurt in the accident!

Miata - How do you like Curves?

Jack-K - You must be one hot mama with all the working out you're doing!! Way to go.

Monet - I'll eat the peppers. Just send 'em to me.

Whew, I think I'm caught up with the posts now. Wow it's been a busy board the last few days. I love it! Hope everyone has a safe and fun and legal week-end. See ya.

Wow I missed allot of people. I'm not getting to the first unread post either.

Mom2Marsh- Welcome to the board
Tranquil- I hope you get better fast. Stay in that bed and rest!!!
Serene- Welcome back. I gained 8 lbs too... We can do this!!
TV-Welcome back.... Good luck, you can do it..
heartmom- Another 8lb. for Serene, you and me. We'll get it off..
Jack-K- I used Lipton beefy onion soup mix and two beef bouillion cubes. It seemed to work really good.
Meliris- Howdy gal....
Sweetbeater-I think the first two weeks are the hardest cause your body is detoxing from the sweets...

Wink TGIF

Is anyone else glad the week is over?. I'll be glad to get back to old regular schedules!! Although, working an entire 5 days in a row will probably kill me next week!!

To get all caught up on what has been up with me:

Did I ever tell ya'll that my Mom married that "old flame"? Remember how upset I was about her dating so soon after Dad died.... well, she got married after dating for 4 months. So, needless to say, it has been a very different holiday season for my family. His kids seem to be as uneasy around us as we are them. Thanksgiving was one big meal with all included and it was OK but not overly comfortable. X-mas was done seperately and seemed to go a little better that way. The old fellow still won't talk much, so I don't seem to know him any better than when I first met him I got him a pair of New Balance tennis shoes for X-mas (he was wearing K-mart special, grey velcro shoes before ). I'm just trying to get along with this as best as I can and take one day at a time and concentrate on my kids and DH instead of worrying about everything else going on in the family. I got that title of "fixer of the family problem's" since Dad died and I've just about got them all told to GROW UP and quit putting me in the middle of everything. I reserve the right to make them handle their own problems unless I feel obligated to get involved these days. I would never, EVER, want to be a referee!!

Anyway - Went to Disneyworld in October. It was the greatest vacation ever. Our whole group (3 families - 11 people) had the best time ever!! I was so glad that I got those $300 insoles for my shoes. Insurance ended up putting the whole amount against my deductable, but it was worth it. I would have paid $1000 for them now that I know what a difference they make. For newbies, I have what they call "hammertoes" and very painful corns and calluses on my feet because of that. It has been my excuse to not exercise for a long time, but that time is OVER!! I make sure all my new shoes have removable insoles now so that I can wear them as much as possible. In fact, it seems that I now dress according to the shoes instead of matching shoes to the outfit

What else - oh yeah - During November and until about 2 weeks before X-mas, a friend of mine at work and I have been walking at lunch. Its probably been the only reason I haven't gained all my weight back!! We plan to pick back up on Monday.

OH - DH had knee surgery the week before Thanksgiving. He is such a huge !! No reason to doubt why God made it so the women have the babies . He actually did better than I thought he would, but he is having some problems and had to get one of those shots in the joint on Monday and they drained a bunch of blood off of it that was causing swelling. I don't know what we'll end up having to do about it, but I hope it gets better soon or I may have to put him out of his misery !

Beth - I'll shoot you an email later today.

Deb - Why is water so hard for us?!?!? I'm glad I didn't try and get with you when we were in Orlando cause we didn't have 5 minutes of spare time the entire week!! I could have spent 2 weeks there and still not done everything! So sorry about your aunt....

Mel - Hey girl! Glad to see you're still around!

Jennifer - Glad to see one of the main ladies joining us on SB!! Also good to hear that the firm tapes are good, but that fanny lifter - whew - kills my fanny I got the whole set - cardio, abs and sculpt. I tried them out in the fall and didn't stick with it, but now I've gotta get serious!

I've gotta run for now - You gals have a great weekend!

C-ya,
Teresa

Friday is almost over.

Getting ready to head to happy hour. Only having ice tea or diet coke tonite. I promise. The guys want to watch the big Miami vs Ohio St game tonight so the girls are thinking about going to a bar to Karoke. I guess I will be the dd if I decide to go. They will probably want pizza for the game so I will get some hot wings at happy hour.

We have been doing great all week so lets carry it through the weekend. Be legal and you will be so happy come WIW.
Deb, Wow another 1/2 lb. Great job. I know it's probably from being sick, but hey we take em anyway we can get em. WTG on your walking. I can feel for your GM, I don't think I would want someone dying in my house either. But we do what we have to do. Sending prayers for your whole family.

Mom2Marsh, You used to see those birthmarks a lot a long time ago. But I haven't seen anyone with them in years. I sure didn't know that they could cause other problems. I'm so sorry for you & your little one. They sure don't understand at that age.

Beth, good idea to get out of the house so you don't eat. I feel your pain with the house payment. Must be that time of year.

Gator, My walk consists of 20 minute miles also. Can’t get DH to walk any faster.

Quiv, Good for you passing up those goodies. I don’t know about the lunch being legal. These last 20 pounds have been slow coming off so I am hoping all my indiscretions over the holidays will jump start me into losing again.

Sef, you have been busy today. It is nice that your GD has a nurse in the family that can take care of her. Hope she isn’t too sore today.

Melf, finally got a chance to look at your new pic. Wow, you are one hot chick! I can’t believe how much younger you look.

Nomoresugar, Be prepared tonight. Take a ww bun for your bbq. I would think the bbq would have sugar. Be careful. Take something to snack on too. Good luck. Watch out on that sf candy. It can still trigger the craving for sugar, plus too much will keep you running to the potty.

Monet, hope you find an alternate for dinner. Hate it when plans go arye (sp). Better get some rest. Hope the dr visit goes ok and he can figure out why you are still so tired.

Toni, for 4 days OP. See we can do this. I didn’t see Oprah but went to her website and read about it. It was interesting. Sounds pretty much like SB to me.

Deb, Broward Cty made our national news last night. Apparently their was a senator that was a dr and he helped some people who's car overturned on the highway. I only caught the end of the story.

Have a great weekend everyone. Hope to check in sometime over the weekend, but have to fit the little girls for their flower girl dresses tomorrow and then off to a birthday party for my GN and then some friends are having a get together later. Sunday we have to go to Bardstwon to see a house DD and SIL 2B have picked out. Run run run.

Thumbs up

Good afternoon all. I hope I didn't offend anyone by my "seniors cheating" comment. I find it hard to get through one hour much less 12 months. I am feeling like a failure today. Got up this am and went to weigh.....only lost 2 pounds in 8 days. I guess it is a start. My dh forgot to weigh so he will do it after work and I will see how he is doing. I am pretty down that it is not more. I am still craving pretty bad too and always looking for sweet subs.

Deb: I finished off those cookies and haven't bought another box.
Will be keeping your Aunt in my prayers for a peaceful end. I will break down and buy the agave I guess for any baking I may do.

Sef: You are right, our tastes do change but I never gave mine a chance to experience anything new....til now.

Jack K: If anyone is 99% legal they are doing a darn good job. I haven't done well with my water today so will go drink some after this.

How do you all remember what to reply to each others posts and names etc? Do you make notes while reading or what? My brain doesn't remember things that well anymore. IT IS SUGAR DEPRIVED!

I have been retired from the Medical Profession for a couple years. I quit the clinic where I worked when they hired a new Office Manager who was/is a "B" Anyway, they called yesterday and have fired her and want me to come run things in the interim. I am flattered and said yes, but wondering if I need the stress.

I am going to go to the Bio Board and add some stuff since I now know more of what is welcome.

Thumbs down Whoa Nellie!!!!!

Wow! The board has been busy this week!

Welcome to all our new members! Welcome back to all those who left us for a while, glad you are back with us for the new year.

I just got back into Auburn. The phone rang and it was Mom telling me that my Great Aunt died this evening. Thankgoodness she doesn't want me to go back--I don't think I can take another day in the car. I've put over 1,600 miles on the car in the last 14 days. My GA was 92 and quite sick and miserable. She is in a much better place and is no longer suffering, so I am happy for her.

I cannot even begin to catch up with all the posts, but a few observations:

BOB--MY teams did just fine on Wednesday. I believe that Auburn was the only SEC team to actually WIN their bowl game. And my NC State was just brillant against Notre Dame. My brother, SIL and youngest niece went to Jacksonville for the game (why I had to make trip # 5 to Kinston). I had a ball on Wednesday--pure football pleasure! Sorry you vols, gators, and those other tigers were not so fortunate. heheheheh.

Deb--I'm thinking about your and your great aunt--I hope she doesn't suffer.

Monet--good luck getting rid of the artificial sweetner--I've done it with the exception of what is in the one diet soft drink I allow myself a day (ok some days its two or three--give me a break!), but I started drinking my coffee and tea black and I think it makes a difference.

Everyone--I read the new SB book this week. For anyone who doesn't have the book I highly recommend the new one. For those of you with the old book, there really isn't anything new that would change any of the advice they gave in the old book (except that carrots are OK in moderation). What this book does is explain the GI in more detail--and they talk about the latest research that supports a low-glycemic WOE as the best way to lose weight. The recipies are new and there isn't a 14 day plan--just suggestions for what you might eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For the old timers, the new book is useful and a reinforcement of what we already know. After reading it I have been OP for 5 days now, it has certainly helped me to recommit. I think it was well worth the 15 bucks I spent on it.

I'll try to catch up tomorrow.

Happy New Year everyone!

Susan

TV--Did you get orthotics for your shoes? You said insoles, but I wasn’t sure if they were the expensive orthotics. I’ve had mine for years and they definitely make a difference. My whole body, and especially my shins hurt if I don’t wear them.

Jack-K--My DH walks faster than me. I slow him down when we walk together. He is probably a 3.5 mph pace. I was happy I got my 3 miles in this morning because it got cold here. It is supposed to get into the high 30’s tonight and tomorrow night there is a frost warning. Brrrrrrr. I guess I’ll wait until mid morning to walk tomorrow, when it is a little warmer. I just got home from working out and was so glad I got that over with. Don’t want to have to do it on the weekend.

Sweetbeater and other newbies--When replying, it is very easy to just open a word processing application and as you read through the posts, type in the word proc. app. the replies you want to make. Then when you’ve finished all the reading and typing as you go, just copy what you’ve typed, and paste it into the reply box on the SB page. It makes it pretty simple, and also, you can save as you go and never have to worry about losing a post.

I’ve been journaling my food pretty good, and even been trying to keep a good record of the calories I’ve been eating. I’ve been SB legal and have had lots of fruits and veggies. Strawberries are now coming into season down here.
Anyway, tonight I had fish (tilapia) and stir fried veggies. Pretty low cal. Except that I used oil for the stir fry and I also used a little oil to sauté the fish. When I figured in the approximate oil it looked like I had more oil calories than “food” calories. Yikes!

Fillise- The UGA puppies won their bowl game, thank goodness. I was pulling for them. So two SEC teams won. Overall, though, we didn’t look so good as a conference. Glad your tigers won. I was pullin’ for ‘em.

I feel the same way about eating for the holidays as you. I ate what I wanted but in the back of my mind was the little voice reminding me that every illegal bite would slow down my loss. What also helps is the stomach pain from eating wrong! I think I lost a pound too.

How can you feel low about yourself when you lost? Any loss is good loss and 2 pounds is a lot! The first month is the hardest because your adjusting. Once you get the hang of it you don't feel like your dieting, well at least I don't. And if my ex-potato eating 15 year old can do SB anyone can!

After years of thinking diet soda was disgusting, I now have to ask my husband to take a sip to make sure it's diet because it tastes so normal!
I try to limit my soda to when I'm eating out for a treat. Another treat is my coffee with Agave, have you tried to use that?
I brought the new SB book, just need to find the time to read it! A couple books I keep on hand and keep reading over and over are: ,
Get the Sugar Out: 501 Simple Ways to Cut the Sugar in Any Diet
Sugar Blues, and of course
Sugar Busters! I keep one in the car all the time to read while waiting for kids or whatever.
It really works to remind me of why sugar is evil

Hi All!!! Just wanted to tell you I had my first op day...And I didn't have to eat a whole box of triscuits either..Oh I did eat a few, but I did not eat a whole box. I made a bean soup with low fat turkey sausage for lunch and it was really good. I took a chopped up apple for break time, and had the cabbage patch dinner from the reciepe book (SB) and no sugar!!! I am so proud of me!!!

I also went to Curves...For me it works real well. I know for some people it would be a little too easy, and not long enought, but I really like the fact that you do these great exercises (2 times round) with jumping, or kicking or moving inbetween, and it only takes 30 minutes..The exercise machines are great and the people who stick with this along with a good food plan, do lose inches...I am going to be one of thoes people. I am not organized enough to do a big health club thing...(too much time since if I go, I like to do arobic machines every day, then every other day you have to put in the weights......) I have had memberships to clubs like that and really wasted my money..This curves thing is going to work.

Thanks for all the encouragement..It just cracks me up how many post there are!!! in my old WW where Deb found me..(I think she must go to differenct places to find us and bring them to here!!!Well she found me.) And you are right, you are a heck of nice bunch of ladies..I like that..

Welll it is time to go to bed, I have to start going to bed at an earlier hour so I can get up before 8:30 and start my day...i hate sleeping in even if I don't get to bed till 3:00 am!!! I will write up my bio tomorrow after a good night sleep.

Nighty night!!!
