Well, I just goofed and lost my post. I'll try again.
I've spent a while skimming the posts this week. I've been behind. Dennis and I have spent this week painting and papering the kids' rooms. They turned out really cute and they love them. I'll try posting some pictures. Eating hasn't been great this week. Nothing too bad, but definitely not 100% OP.
JEANIE: Man it's hot here too. I haven't been in the pool, I just stayed inside. Loved the pic of you and Beth.
Just spent a nice time at an AARP meeting here in town. A new friend asked me to go with her and I said yes just to be nice but it was worth it! Put supper in the crock pot this morning so don't have to worry there. WD had sale on whole fryers. So I put one in the post, threw in some peppers, onion, tomatoes, tomatoe sauce, spices and presto chicken caicatore (or however it's spelled!) Just have to cook up some pasta.
FILLISE: I've had that page thingy happen too. Often when I leave the site and then come back it is solved. Other times it's just the one page and next is okay. I'll be interested to see if you get any tips. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!
QUILT: Hope you are feeling better. Tums for the tummy! Ginger Ale, diet of course. Peppermint tea. When I was a kid my Grandma used to make real peppermint tea. It was her cure for everything! We had a huge (140#) German Shepherd for 11 years. I found people just saw him and backed off! They didn't realize he was a lover not a fighter. I still habve a scar on my arm where I got scratched by him when I helped the little country vet neuter him!
DARAMUS: Nice to hear from you again! I was in the pool the other night and a clap of thunder came that caused waves! I wasn't long in getting out I can tell you. We have the same kind of rain pattern, rains on one side of the street but not the other. Just depends where the cloud is.
CHERYL: Takes a while to get real sugar out of your system. Many complain of withdrawal. As a former "1 pot of coffee by myself from 6:30a - 8:45a when I headed out the door to work", I know how hard to give up the coffee! I'm down to two BIG mugs a morning now. Have to have the sweetner though, can't seem to do it black.
GRACIOUS: I always looked younger too, although I'm not so sure I do now! My DH was 15 years older, he said he married me young so he could train me right! I remember when Frank Sinatra married Mia Farrow, 20 years younger, and Dh wondered what that young girl could see in a man so much older! You must feel very glamorous after your day of primping!
JACKK: Been there done that today. Didn't have lunch, passed up cake and ice cream at meeting. Then came home and ate waaaaaaaaay toooooooooooo many crackers with no one around! BAD ME too!
SHEANN: Glad your son is home and his wife is trying to help.
ROSALIE: When I worked with the geris, part of my job was helping plan specila events like BBQs. The patient always loved a change from the ordinary. Even though I worked the last ten years of my career with head trauma my heart always belonged to the geris. That's why I volunteer at a NH now.
MOMMA: Glad to see your post! I am not very computer literate. Tried to scan and email a friend a special paper today. Can't figure out how to do it, even when all else failed read the directions!
Hello Everyone! Thanks for all the well wishes that I would be feeling better. I did feel much better today. Went to work and got a lot done and didn’t feel sick anymore. I think it’s a PMS thing. It seems like I only get this way during that third week of my cycle and it usually only lasts about a day. Then it’s gone. So who knows?
I didn’t eat so much today, because I was very leery of eating too much and getting sick again. Tonight I did make salmon patties. Mmmmm, mmmmm. And I might add that they cooked beautifully on my new gas range. I am really starting to like it so much. I haven’t used the oven yet, so I am anxious to try it.
HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, BIRTHDAY TO GRACIOUS AND TONI!!!!!! Hope you all have wonderful days and that tomorrow morning when you wake up you’ll feel younger NOT older.
DARAMUS---Good to hear from you! Don’t get down that your weight is staying the same. Look at it this way . . . at least it’s not not going up. Besides there are many other ways to measure your good work. Try your measurements and see if there’s a difference. Also are your clothes feeling bigger?
CHERYL---Way to go at getting those SB foods to your family! Very well done!!! My husband was a huge Mt. Dew fan when I first met him. Now he’s a WATER DRINKER. Every so often I’ll see him with at diet pop, but that’s rarely. He says he likes the way water makes him feel. So don’t despair and don’t give up on your hubby. I made some “spanish rice” a week ago with brown rice and it was wonderful!!! I fed it to dh and my two nieces and nobody even knew it was brown rice. I think hubby suspected because he knows I wouldn’t eat the white kind. When I talk about starchy carbs, I’m referring to breads and crackers and pasta and rice. Everything has carbs in it (milk, fruit, veggies). But those foods are not considered starchy. Am I right about this, DEB? At least that’s what I think the difference is.
ZANNE---You made me LOL when you said that “when you saw that 175 it scared the crap out of you.” Perhaps that’s how you lost the four pounds. Congrats! You had to be sighing a huge relief sigh when you saw that nice number pop up. I love the thought of your crayon box house. I would feel right at home there! What color is your kitchen?
GRACIOUS---Sounds like the scale gave you a good birthday present. Good for you!!! Your idea to ditch the starchy carbs for a temporary push sounds like a good one. I may have to try it, but I’m not sure I can survive without my triscuits!
CHRIS---I’ll be sure to get some pics of the newly revamped kitchen. It may take a while because I have to make some little curtains and I’m not sure when that’s going to happen. I like Trading Spaces too. But some of those designers get on my nerves. I think that Hilde and Doug do not take the homeowners’ considerations into their minds when they are planning the rooms. I LOVE Vern and Frank and Jen. They seem to really want to please the home owners. Did you see the one episode where the woman hated the room so much that she had to leave the room and began sobbing off camera with her microphone still on.
CM4H---You did make me laugh when you confessed about eating straight out of the container. I laughed only because I can relate to that statement in a BIG way. Congrats on the loss. Do you weigh yourself everyday?
DEB---Boy, you all sure are getting some UN-sunshine state weather! That’s got to be a downer after so many days. Down from the Mountain is just a concert using the music and performers from the movie. It’s a first class group of bluegrass singers. The video under the same name is more of a documentary and the concert in one. Yes, I really would have loved going, but I really needed to be home. The starchy carbs I eat on a regular basis are: triscuits and whole wheat pitas. Some days I have two pitas and usually 10 triscuits for lunch. Today I had probably 15 -18 triscuits throughout the day. (I made the mistake of taking the whole box to work!) Then came home and had a toasted pita with butter. Then at summer I just had two salmon patties that probably had a tablespoon of bread crumbs and some spinach. But some days I eat more triscuits. Usually for breakfast I just make a soy protein shake and that’s all I have. Not on a regular basis I eat ww noodles or Special K. That’s about all the starchy carbs I have. What do you think?
FLYGIRL---The next time my tummy wants to do the two-step, I’m going to try your idea of legal bread. That would work, I’m sure. Thanks for the tip. I’m crazy for GREEN, all shades . . . even chartreuse!!! I think it’s such a calming color.
TRANQ---I sure wish you and your sidekick lived closer so we could do a get-together with you all on Friday. KTK said she’d bring her digital camera, so there will be pictures. I’ll confess that I usually don’t wear make-up on my day off, but since there may pictures posted on the board, I will get out the mascara. LOL
BOB---I enjoyed your KY list. How true! Maddie seems a bit stiff tonight. Thought I saw her limping a little bit earlielr tonight. Give Skeeter a scratch behind the ears from Auntie Kim. We got the DVD of High Fidelity with John Kusack. Have you ever seen that one? I hated it at first, but then it sort of wore me down. Not a chick movie that’s for sure. We also got The Big Kahuna with my boyfriend Kevin Spacey, but we didn’t have time to watch it. What are you considering this weekend in the way of movies. Have you seen I am Sam? I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Sean Penn.
JACK-K---I loved hearing about that article from your paper. Wow, that woman is certainly worth honoring. She really had the focus and stuck with it. How great for her. Can you imagine how her life changed?
HEART---You are kicking butt and taking names. You must feel great that 8 pounds are gone!!!! Awesome!!! Way to keep it up!!!
SHEANN---Glad to hear that your son is at home with his family. Praying for him that he gets peace and gets the help he needs. Hugs to you for all the stress youare under. I also pulled out my SB book to reread it. YOu and I must be on the same wavelength. Good luck on your recommitment. Just remember that the white stuff is poison for you. If you want to feel good and healthy and do the right thing for your body, you will not even consider that stuff. Today I did the Vending Machine Walk with my co-workers. I got a Diet Dr. Pepper (my favorite soft drink). They all bought stuff from the candy machine. NOT ME!!!! I didn’t even consider getting any of that stuff. Really keeping the danger in that crap at the forefront of my brain so I will stay away. You will get to that point if you are not there already. Good luck!!!
ROSALIE----You did good at the barbecue today. I love that you pointed out how silly we eat. How we put so much of the same stuff (starchy carbs) in one meal. How did you make your cole slaw? Any special secrets? I love cole slaw, because I love cabbage.
BKM---It’s great to hear from you. Glad to hear that Daisy is doing well. Knowing Sarah, Daisy will be the most loved dog in your town! Thanks for the update on Zsu. I’m anxious to see the pics. I’ll bet I look like a house.
MUSIC---Hey, your handiwork looks great. Love those bright vivid colors!!! It is hard to eat right when you’re busy doing home improvements.
SEF---You and I have so many bonds. Both of us German Shepherd mommies. I’ve know quite a few GS and they are mostly cuddle bugs who just love to be loved. I have a teeny, tiny bottle of peppermint oil. It’s super strong and you have to be very careful not to get it on your fingers because it can really burn your eyes. I sometimes put a fe drops in water and that will help with a tummy. Sometimes I just sniff it and it relaxes my whole being. I forgot I had it. So thanks for reminding me of that.
Okay, kids, it’s time for bed. I have one more load of laundry to take out of the dryer and then I’m hitting the hay. I do so enjoy spending the evening with you all. Thanks for all the great things you all speak of. Thanks for showing all your warts. Thanks for sending hugs to those who are hurting. We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful, kind and caring group of people. Talk to you later.
Thanks to all for the anniversary wishes. Today was busy--but OP and I feel so good tonight. The whole inside of my body feels clean!
Sheann--I'm glad to hear the good news on DS! I hope they continue to make progress.
Shirley--Glad to know I'm not crazy about the page thingy!
BKM--Good to see you back! Sorry to hear about the niece's broken arm. I broke my arm once while visiting an aunt--no fun. I guess when you live in Orlando being a tour guide is a fact of life. Hope you get some time to rest up--I'm a big believer in down time!
Gracious--glad the highlights and the trim turned out well! WTG on the IQ test.
Hello all. I'm feeling pretty good tonight. I was able to get in a second 3 miles today for a total of 13 miles in 3 days. Not up to what I use to walk but almost and at a faster pace so I aint complaining.
Vabutterfly...you and hubby are doing so good...I know that pound will come off and he will be hooked.
Tranquil..thanks for the pep talk today.
Hey Bob! You sure that aint about TX..man it was hot here today..and the hottest days are yet to come.
Jack-K Thanks for the neat story. Persistance does pay off and life long habits are being made.
Jeanie...it was sooo hot and humid today. I can barely wait for winter. Of course when winter gets here I'll be beggin' for spring.
WTG HeartMom...the weight is coming off nicely. Your casserole sounds delicious.
Deb...I only bought one new scale recently. Hopefully this time it won't break like the last new scale. The reason I cut out the meat is because it helps me lose weight a little quicker and I'm not a big meat eater. But when I started on Sugar Busters I cut my protien too much and my hair started to fall out...soooo you don't have to worry about me cutting meat out for any length of time. I already caved this week any how...but I have cut them back.
Sheann...I'm so glad your son is back home with his wife and getting that support. That will help him a lot.
Gracious..I bet your hair looks beautiful..glad you had such a super b-day.
BKM...praying those lab results come back just AWESOME.
Music..the kids rooms look great..I especially like the girls room..it's so cute.
Kim...Yes, I weigh everyday...sometimes 3 or 4 times a day. I had gotten away from it and was only weighing once a day. So hopefully I'll get back there. I think these new higher weighing scales just bug me....the numbers that is.
Well, it's time to call it a night. I hope that I didn't miss anyone. ((hugzz)) Stay encouraged and know you are doing GREAT!! It a journey, an adventure so enjoy along the way.
My neice is fine and her sugery went well. She's just uncomfortable with gas pains. Thanks so much for all your prayers.
Also congratulations to all the losers!!!
Gracious-I'm glad you enjoyed your day at the salon and that you are happy with the results. My husband has been a Pastor for 9 years. We are non-denominational I guess if I had to Compare it I would say we are very close to Full Gospel.
VaButterfly- Thanks so much for praying for my neice
Quilter- Glad to see you feeling better.
Deb- I guess I am being Noisy But did you have your stomach stapled for weight loss? Well enough of my being noisy enjoy you free day tommorrow, I'm sure with you being the Bargain Queen you will find many bargains.
Sheann- I'm praying for your son. Congratulations on your recommittment to this WOE!!
Hello. I used to post here a while ago and I found an article in the New York Times Magazine that I thought anyone doing Sugarbusters would find encouraging and interesting. Enjoy!
MUSIC: The room looks happy with those cheerful colors!
QUILT: Gram used to use peppermint oil too! Forgot about that. She would use it for tea (and other things) or else she would muddle fresh leaves and steep them in hot water.
COUNTRY: BOB did a misprint she was talking about LA!
MERCY: Glad all is well with your niece.
Just thought I'd check in before I check out and to bed.
Guess I'm a little late for WIW but was very pleased with the scale today. I won't throw it out just yet. I have lost 1 and 1/2 lbs since last week. I didn't expect it as I thought I'd show a gain after the big binge. Does that mean I can still have margaritas and lose weight? Just kidding,I promise!!
Deb, or anyone?? I do have a serious question about alcohol though. My doctor has said that I should have one glass of red wine each evening to help with cholesterol issues. I will have to start on medication if the level doesn't come down and I don't eat a lot of fat. How would that fit in with SB? Any information would be helpful.
I had a delicious dinner at Tranquil's house tonight. She fixed the salad with the grilled chicken that she has been mentioning. Let me tell you how wonderful it was. She is such a good cook! After dinner, we went for the nightly walk with her DS, Gram and the not so fluffy hound. It is always fun to have someone to walk with, even if she has to listen to me complain about having to go to the bathroom.
Sef, the buddy system really does work very well for us, however last weekend was just a very unusual exception. It won't be happening again. You sound like a very talented lady with all the crafts you do. Wish I had someone like you near by to help me learn. I have always wanted to do counted cross stitch or needlepoint.
TONI and GRACIOUS, hope you each had a very Happy Birthday. Sorry my wishes are a little late!
Debbie, sounds like the problems with school buses are very common, especially in our state. We've had similar problems here. The bus stop for my DD was over a mile away when she was in Summer school. She was supposed to walk to it by herself at 6am. I said no way of course, and just drove her to school. Some days, the bus just didn't show up anyway. We've been having lots of rain in this part of the state also. This weekend is supposed to be a big wash out. Glad to hear that you are feeling a little more back to normal, however, I have to agree with BOB about menopause or perimenopause. Sorry, but I don't think ELI is an old fart at all! I am getting very close to 47, so 50 is looking quite young to me! I have a son that is going on 25 also!
Mercy, it was nice chatting with you Tues. night. I'm glad to hear that you niece is doing well. Boy, do I know how those gas pains hurt after surgery. OUCH!
Quilter, glad that you are feeling better. Geez, that TOM sure causes all of us a lot of problems. He doesn't come visit me anymore, yet I get the cramping and bloating just the same. It would be a blast if my cohort and I lived closer to you but we might become the terrible threesome and get into lots of trouble together! Sounds like a fun idea to me! I can't wait to see pics of your visit with KTK! I'm curious to know your recipe for the soy protein shake? Maddie sounds like her bark is much worse than her bite. LOL I think just the sight of a German Shepherd can be intimidating. Sometimes a stranger will come to our door that doesn't know how gentle greyhounds are, and will be very imtimidated at 3 big hounds staring at them through the glass door. Once they greet whoever is coming in, they all go back to being couch potatoes though. Ok, the names of my hounds: Jennifer Prince is 9, Aussie Lee is 6, and Miles to Drive is 11. I just call them by their first names as those were their official racing names. I will try to get a picture posted soon for you to see. You can see a picture of Tranquil and I if you go to the support board for week 6/3-6/9, page 8, almost to the botton of the posts. I love your idea for the red kitchen counter top for a Coke kitchen. I need to hire you to come redecorate for me since you are getting lots of experience at it lately.
Well, it is gettig late so I will have to finish catching up tomorrow.
Hi to everyone I've missed.
Just a quick GOOD MORNING to all us sleepy heads. I'm wishing you a wonderful Friday Eve. Hope you all have such great days. It's a perfect morning. NO HUMIDITY and cooler. We actually slept without the ac last night. Delightful!!! Guess it's easier to be cheery in the morning when you don't have all that moisture weighing you down.
Speaking of weighing, I have to admit that that darned needle on the scale refuses to budge. I'm down one pound from when I started back three or four weeks ago. I guess I'm going to be one of those slow pokes. Although it's disappointing, I'm not giving up. I know that I am eating less than I was when I was snacking like crazy. So I'll just have to wait and see. Something has to happen sooner or later.
Some of you asked about the Rosie weight issue--it was a little disappointing. She and some other women are going to try to lose weight (again--we've all been there haven't we?). There was an conversation between Rosie and Laura Flynn Boyle on being too fat and too thin, there were two articles on weight loss surgery--both lost weight, but one woman was happy with the surgery and one wasn't. The one who wasn't is having problems keeping food down since her surgery (ahem--sound like anyone we know girls?). There was also an article about women in the military and looking good. But besides the surgery articles there was nothing really substantive. The best article I've read recently is the one in the NY Times magazine. Wendy has also posted a link to it--it really raises serisou questions about the lowfat/high carb gospel.
I hear that a new edition of the SugarBusters book will be out this fall. It will be interesting to see what added information they will include.
When Mom and Dad were here in April they wanted to try it so I sent the book home with them--BIG MISTAKE! When I get shaky, I always find that rereading it helps to keep me committed. When I go to NC in two weeks, I'm taking it back! I need that book in this house AT ALL TIMES!
I had two slices of WWSF bread with natural peanut butter and agave on it for breakfast this morning--YUM!
Been a hectic week for me, so sorry for not posting. Congrats to the losers and happy belated birthday to Toni and Gracious.
My weight's bopped up a couple of pounds, but I'm not surprised after the holiday weekend I had... ugh.
Today I see my new Dr. for the first time. I have to fast for the bloodwork, so only H2O for me today.
Wish me luck that she might actually find a reason why I'm feeling so lethargic, as opposed to telling me it's all in my head and if I lose weight, all my problems will go away.
When I get a chance, I'll post the before and after pictures of my haircut - everyone says it's cute, even Dan (and he thought I was crazy for wanting to cut my hair off).
It is a gorgeous day here, as it has been all week in fact. It is warm but not hot and not humid at all. Gotta love it! We are planning on going strawberry picking this afternoon with the family so it is perfect weather for that.
I weighed myself this morning and I am down another 2 pounds from yesterday!!! That 2 pounds will go towards this weeks count and I hope to add to it. That is 7 pounds in total since I got back from vacation. Yay for me!!
MERCY- Well then our hubbies have been in the ministry basically the same length of time! Have you been at the same church for those 9 years? Do you have any children and if so how many? Give me some details girl!
QUILTER- I have to say that I think dropping the triscuits is a better idea than just dropping all starchy carbs. I saw in your post to DEB that you eat the WW pitas and the triscuits. I think the triscuits are too easy to over eat on and they really don't fill you up. Those starchy carbs could go towards a nice healthy wrap made with another WW pita or tortilla. I found that when I started SB that I ate too many triscuits too. I loved the taste and would eat those instead of a more filling option and be hungry soon afterwards. Having said all that, we each have to *tweak* things to suit ourselves and see what works. Hope you tweak well!
SEF-My hubby used to say that too! *Marry 'em young and train 'em up right!* He said it with a silly accent and all. I was married when I was 20 years old and that is pretty young by todays standards. I am glad I did get married that young though!
I am going to stop now before my computer freezes on me. I am off to do my WATP 3 mile video. My expected houseguests that were to arrive today from Ontario called last night when I was in bed to say they weren't coming. Nice timing after I got everything cleaned and food prepared and purchased. Oh well..at least I can take it easy today and already know what we are having for dinner! Ciao for now.
