GM Everyone,

Thanks Jacqui, I hope I have a post TOM whoosh also. Jacqui do you walk the track with your husband? If not, that what makes it better, you have him to chat with, spend time with, and enjoy the scenery. No outsiders constantly in the way Go you on the exercise yesterday GO YOU on hitting your mini goal

Carol Sue good job on the scale number. and I hope your BP is better today The rice/pasta will cause the scale number to jump a little because it's a tad heavy. Although when I eat right I am hungry sooner than later

Mars, I'm gonna go to Whole Foods tomorrow, maybe I can get my son to go with and I can do a few laps around the Duke Univ wall. I love the scenery (just trees, houses and cars) but I like the outdoors Thanks RE: my back. I don't know what is causing this. It happened to me about two years ago just all of a sudden I couldn't do anything. I have been taking ibuprofen to help, and it seems to be working as long as I don't go to long without taking the next dose. My friend said I need to slow down. She says I'm moving to fast. Her back was bothering her today also. TOM passed me on by in May and then hit lightly the end of June, and now back again I'll be glad when I'm done with this part of life Thanks for the label

Obie, LOL, I am snacking also. I had my favorite frosted flakes yesterday, smh. I just want something sweet. And I won't stop to get anything so I have to eat what is here ... and it's cereal. Hope you have good food while you're away

Congratulations, Jacqui, you are an inspiration! You will be 'normal' before you know it.

Rennie, Congratulations to you on a great week's loss! The campus sounds like a lovely place to do laps. I hope the Bubbie's doesn't disappoint. I use 1/4 c in my omelet, like a seasoning. The jar is 1.5 pints which lasts ? a couple of weeks?, and it runs about 6.39/jar here.
Re back, do you have a good mattress? Backaches after waking up are how I know it's time for a new mattress. Pilates helped me too, and also limiting my time laying on the sofa, though I love to do it.

Carol Sue Sending you good vibes for you doctor's appt. I think you could teach him or two!

Chickadee Hope you are having a good week. Looking forward to reading your menu!

Scale up a bit 167.1, no surprise. I had store-bought roasted chicken yesterday, my non Carb Day-off reward, lol. I ate the richest parts, dark meat and skin, then roasted some cabbage in the drippings. It was so good, and salty. So I think the scale is just water. At least my up wt is lower. This am was 21 min on the mini stepper. Watching Columbo rerun keeps me on that thing!

Rennie, you are too young for your back pain to be a sign of needing to slow down. Actually, activity usually helps with pain. Something is causing it and hopefully it is just your mattress. My back/hip pain level went down dramatically about a month after I increased my intake of cruciferous vegetables, but most people tell me it's coincidence. Who knows? I know eating all those veggies isn't bad for me in any way.

Carol Sue, I have you have a great report from the doctor today! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who gets my appt days mixed up!

Obie, thanks! Vacation in 2 weeks, woohoo! I try to stick to plan on vacation but if there's something I really want, I'm going to have it, especially if it something I can only get there! When I was on the Slow Carb Diet before, a couple of years ago, I think I ended up maintaining my weight the week I went to the beach, which I thought was excellent! In any event, plan to enjoy yourself!

Chickadeee, I made some tuna salad today, and I wanted to add cream cheese to it, but hubby wasn't having it, lol! I'll have to try it sometime when he's not in the kitchen waiting on his lunch!

Rennie, Thanks! Congrats on your continued loss! You are doing SO great! When DH and I go to the walk park, we walk together and chat, and that is very nice. It makes exercising seem like no effort at all! When we go to the Y, we tend to do different things, so we each have Pandora on our phones and we listen to music through earbuds. He likes to listen to Classic Rock, which I love, but for exercising I tend to listen to '70's funk. I think the beat is perfect for exercising and those old songs like Car Wash, Superstition, Boogie Nights, etc. are so fun!

Mars, thanks! Yay on the stepper time! Way to go, Columbo, lol! That water weight will be back off you in no time!

My doctors appointment went well. My blood pressure and weight were both up. When the doctor came in I kept his attention on my bloodwork so he wouldn't address the blood pressure. It goes up when my weight goes up and I'm determined to get it back down without more meds. Also, my A1c was 7.6. He wasn't concerned, but I will work toward getting it back down under 7. Exercise should work with my BP and BG.

Jacqui, good for you on reaching your short-term goal!

You could probably add some cream cheese to your portion of the tuna salad. I do that with a lot of things I make for us. Take out a portion for DH and then add other things to mine, or vice versa. He likes elbow macaroni in his chili, so I take out my portion then add the cooked macaroni to his. I like a lot of onion in mine, so I have chopped onion sitting on the side to put into mine when I portion it out. And sometimes I put most of the beans in my portion as he doesn't like a lot of beans, and I love them. Too bad for him! LOL

Chickadeee, how do you fry radishes?

Chickadeee, I am so sorry you suffered a migraine yesterday! I hope it's gone! Mine tend to last a few days when I get them. I don't like to take meds, but I have learned not to mess around with those headaches, so if I start to get one, Excedrin Migraine it is! The commercial says it works in 30 minutes. It always takes at least an hour for me, but it does dull it.

Carol Sue, I'm glad you were able to distract your doctor to keep from taking more meds. I'm inclined to believe the cabbage rolls were the culprit anyway. Rice holds water and you mentioned they had sodium, so it probably had just not cleared from your body yet. Those cabbage rolls sound so yummy but you may want to wait until after your doctor's appt to have them! That is a great idea on portioning out the food. I don't know why I didn't think of it! Thanks! (And your version of chili sounds delicious! )

Jac - you are doing great, what a good leader you are for us. Yep, today was day 2 of the migraine. And, yes I hate taking meds, but I have learned over the last 30 years to take the darn pill at the first sign and I am better off. (even though I hate pills)

Carol Sue - you cut the radishes up like you would slice small red potatoes, add some sliced onions, parsley, salt, pepper, olive oil and saute. The first time my DH thought they were potatoes.

+++++ I thought for sure I would get heck for the Turkey Spam on the menu.

Hi all!

I used to lurk on the Slow Carb thread back in the early days and now that it has blossomed, I am ready to become official. I've been eating low carb for awhile now, except when I wasn't. I'm on vacation which is not making it easy, but I've been in control for a couple of days now that I'm staying somewhere that I can cook. Due to an injury, I have been in a boot and my exercise has been limited. I'm in a great place to walk though and I am itching to get out there and disobey my PT. Before I left town, I had gained back almost 20 lbs due to various excuses. I need to stay on top of this before I gain everything I lost back.

Have a nice weekend!

Bewildered! Great job on eating well during vacation! Take it easy on that foot though and listen to your PT, lol! There will be opportunity to exercise all in due time! So glad to have you join us!

Chickadeee, yep, you sound just like me with the migraine and meds. I hope you feel better tomorrow! And thank you for the nice compliment! Lol! I was going to ask you what turkey spam was when I read it! Now I have to ask!

Hi Everyone & Welcome, Bewildered!

Jacqui, yay YOU for earning another cheerleader!

chickadeee, well Carol Sue & Jacqui beat me to the punch re asking about fried radish & turkey spam. Both sound really good! Hope you are soon feeling better.

Too much running around the last 2 days, both in & out of work. I'm glad for the weekend. Carb Day will be...well, there will be extra carbs eaten! Have a great weekend!

Went to the casino buffet again yesterday. Hovering at 201 this morning. Up, but not by much. If I hadn't eaten the buffet I think I would be back in Onederland, for the 4th time. I think I might try a salad fast for a couple days to try to stir things up. Not sure I can really forgo my morning eggs.

I win, I win! I am the only one who knows what Turkey Spam is!! LOL I've tried it, but didn't like it. Spam products are a little too spicy for my taste. There is a similar product, Armour Treet that is milder that I prefer, but don't buy it often because DH doesn't like it. I "Treet" myself once in a while.

Chickadeee, I just might try the fried radishes, but I really doubt if they will spark an interest for DH. Although he likes radishes, his potatoes have to be real potatoes. I don't think I will be able to fool him.

Jacqui, good job on the new cheerleader! They are so cute!

My cabbage rolls don't have much rice, and it's brown rice for what it's worth. They are baked in a roaster, covered with canned tomato puree and sauerkraut. I think the sodium comes from the sauerkraut. I love them made that way and won't change the recipe for the sake of my BP. I only eat them every few months and you only live once. I want to enjoy it.

Welcome Bewildered! I second the vote that you should take it easy until ou are healed. You don't want to make things worse.

Mars, I remember waiting for the weekend when I was still working, but now that I'm retired, every day is Saturday! Sorry to rub it in. Remember, first you have to get old to be able to enjoy this!

Rennie?????

Carol Sue, hahaha go ahead and rub it in! I'm on the retirement runway and I like hearing about it. Already have achieved old age, lol.

I once made radishes in butter and liked it better than potatoes. It's weird but I can literally polish off the better part of a frosted layer cake, and come back for the rest of it a few hours later. But starches like breads, potatoes, pasta leave me feeling bloated & stuffed. If only there was a good sub for cake & frosting. But i would probably be like your DH & want the real thing

Yes, I too was missing Rennie!
