Alli

My neighbor and I just started Alli yesterday. No news as yet.

tkt117 06-21-2007 11:41 AM

So I am on day four (day five if you count the partial day) and so far I have had no treatment effects. Headache is finally gone... appetite is down...exercise is up. :)

So far I am happy with the results. Three of us at work went in on a starter pack from Costco. It cost us each $23 for 50 pills. Only one person has had a "treatment effect" and she admitted that she was pushing it to see what would happen. She had fish breaded and fried in butter. True to other posts, it is not a force to be reckoned with as you truly have NO CONTROL.

So that was an important lesson for me. BE good or stay home! ;) So far I am down 2.5lbs. I will weigh in officially on Friday.

Good Luck Ladies!

Shandee4007 06-21-2007 05:08 PM

I hope I can join you guys. I recently ordered alli, but it still hasn't been shipped. So I'm getting anxious. What I do hope and what inspired me to go ahead and try it, is because it actually promotes dieting, instead of just saying "take this pill and lose weight". If you don't diet, it won't benefit you at all.

So right now, I'm hoping that it can help with my weight loss, which is going so slow, maybe help with a pound or two extra for me.

I'm glad they started this group, because we can all discuss the pros/cons of taking it, compare notes, etc. Its been a long time, many years since I've tried any product (pills), but if its FDA approved I'm hoping its safe, I'll try it and if works for me, fine if not - it won't stop me from continuing on my weight loss quest.

Good luck all!

Day 4 for Me

I am currently on day 4 of Alli and so far no negative effects. I haven't had any "treatment effects" that they describe if you eat more fat than you should (I have stayed at or under the 15g per meal). I have not had headaches either. I started the pills on Monday morning and as of this morning (although I'm not officially weighing until Sunday), I have lost 3 pounds.

So far I'm quite pleased. Knowing what could happen keeps me very focused and being careful what I eat. That in itself it worth the price of the pills for me. Plus, I'm not paying a weekly fee at WW so that balances it out.

I hope everyone who is trying this has good luck. Anyone who is serious about losing weight knows that it takes a lifelong commitment and a lot of focus to accomplish the task and I know that this pill is not anything magic. I just look at it as a helpful tool to keep me doing what I know I have to do to be successful.

Hello Everyone!
I am on Day 6 of Alli. I am loving it! Except for the (i know gross) oily stools if I eat to much fat at one meal. I have been eating low fat meals and low calorie meals. They say not to eat more then 15 grams of fat at every meal and that you won't get the side effects if you do. I had a slight headache foe a few days but that has gone away. I have dropped 8 pounds since started this so on that alone I am loving it :-)
Good luck everyone!

mommyto3 06-21-2007 07:05 PM

I just got the starter pack today and the book. I'm anxious to start reading tonight. I plan on starting this tomorrow. I've been having a very hard time staying on my program. I'm hoping that this will provide a strong incentive to stay on it! It sure sounds like it's working for several of you!

Deborah

channning102 06-21-2007 08:19 PM

I am on day 6. I have not had any headaches or side effect. I did have somewhat running bowels today. Alli has made me look at everything I put in my mouth. Just for that it is worth while to me. :carrot:

bobbigene 06-21-2007 08:37 PM

Alli - haven't received mine yet

I ordered a starter kit and haven't received it yet - maybe tomorrow. I know, I could have bought it in a store, but I just couldn't bring myself to go into a store and buy it - people would see me buying it. Dumb, like they don't already see a fat middle aged woman instead of the person I really am.:(

OK, enough introspection! As I get older I find it harder and harder to lose no matter what I do so I'm hoping that this will give me a little boost and keep me on track. I'll check back later.

SASCS 06-21-2007 09:41 PM

Just joining the group. On day one nothing to report, but I was watching my fat intake for the last 3 days knowing I was going to start it today.

Shayz 06-21-2007 10:44 PM

Today was day 7 for me and I haven't had any side effects other than a small headache last Sunday which honestly isn't unusual for me. I can't remember if I was at 181 or 180 when I started so I'll have a more accurate weight loss amount on Saturday when I do my official Alli weigh in.

One of the best things is that taking Alli has made me fill out a food journal everyday on The Daily Plate so I can keep track of all my fat grams. It has made me realize that I really need to watch how much sodium I eat since I have pretty much gone over my limit each day.

Hope everyone is doing well.

pjbeau 06-21-2007 10:50 PM

I start taking the pills tomorrow night. Today was my 40th birthday, so I celebrated with several food items that I know I won't be able to even think about starting tomorrow. I've been following a low fat diet for a while now, so I just took today off, I'll be right back on track in the morning.

I've been stuck at one weight for a couple months now and can't seem to get over this plateau, so hopefully Alli will help me kick things back into gear.

debalina 06-22-2007 08:19 AM

Day 2

I am on my second day of taking Alli. No side affects. I'm keeping a journel of what I eat and the moods I'm in. I haven't really started an exercise program yet, but my husband and I are walking to downtown for a concert and then a movie. All uphill from my house. I will start exercising this weekend and do it 5 times a week. We're doing a spring cleaning and repainting the house, so I know as long as my butt isn't on the sofa, I'm okay.

I have a slight headache, but I am prone to headaches anyway so I don't know if it's Alli or life that's causing them. I need to buy a scale so I can keep track of my progress. I did take my measurments though.

My co-worker didn't buy the pills, but she wants to do the low-fat diet with me. Yesturday was the first day of the diet and she didn't do too well. On Thursday's we have a staff meeting and then go out to lunch and we went to Ruby Tuesday's. I had a turkey burger and baked potato. My downfall was 3 glasses of sweet tea. Traci had a cheese burger, fries and dessert. I told her she didn't too very good and she said yes she did - so I'm not going to talk to her anymore about the diet. I'm going to concentrate on me.

I'm excited to be on Alli. I know it's not a miracle pill, but just having that extra boost and the warning of what will happen if I eat too much fat - will keep me on track. I spent $64.04 for a 30 day supply and will do it again.

I will keep posting my progress. Good luck to everyone on it! :smug:

Bev 06-22-2007 09:56 AM

I am thinking of starting Alli after I get back from vacation ( the first week of July). I already exercise but my eatting is what is holding me back. Does anyone know how much the Alli starter kit is? I have seen it at some stores but they never have the price listed.

Bev

DNR 06-22-2007 10:13 AM

Price of Starter Pack

I got my starter pack at WalMart for $49 and some odd cents. It has 90 pills and the booklets, etc.

DNR

P.S. I'm starting day 5 - still no side effects. However, I am staying at or under the 15 grams of fat per meal and following the program exactly as I should.

tkt117 06-22-2007 11:17 AM

I am on day 5 with Alli and so far I am down 3 lbs. I have had absolutely NO effects. For those who are looking for the starter packs, I bought mine at Costco for $67 for 150 pills. We actually split it up between three of us at work to make sure that we wanted to do it. So I have a two week supply to give it a try.

So far I am really happy with the results. And more imprtantly... I know that I am loosing weight because of what I am doing, and not by some miracle of pharmaceuticals.

I have been writing everything down... and I have not had any problems at all. Monday will be a full week... so I will know more then.

Good Luck everyone!

Bev 06-22-2007 11:57 AM

I am going to start the eatting plan before I start taking the pills. I know they say to eat no more than 15 grams of fat per meal. But does anyone know how many calories you should be eatting?

thanks
bev

mommyto3 06-22-2007 01:21 PM

there are three different calorie options based on your current weight...either 1200, 1600, or 1800 calories. I really like the eating plan. Because I'm terrified of the treatment effects, I am going to try and follow the plan to the letter. I've been doing WW (unsuccessfully). Part of that is....most of that is because I sped WAY too many points on sugary, candy, junk foods instead of milk and fruit and whole grains. I know that I can't do this on alli and that is a very good thing!!

edited to add that there are 3 different phases as well that increases the fats per meal until your body adjusts to alli. In the beginning, the fat count is as low as 8 g per meal (maybe lower, I can't remember??)

jhinako 06-22-2007 02:18 PM

...

I've been on Alli since Monday, June 18th. So far I'm down 3 lbs, but I've also started dieting so the weight loss is probably a combination of this. I bought the 90 pill starter pack at Walmart for $50. I usually only take one pill a day(at dinner) on days that I work since I have a slim fast shake for breakfast and lunch and a low fat meal when I get home. On days off I usually have cereal for breakfast, which is very low fat and two low fat meals, which I will take a pill with for each.

I, so far, haven't experienced any discomfort or "treatment effects" and don't suspect that I will following my current "plan". As I understand it, as long as you stay low fat, under 15 grams a meal, you shouldn't experience the side effects.

Bev 06-22-2007 03:49 PM

Well I just picked up the pills at walmart. They were 90 pills for $47. I will follow the diet part until I get back from vacation. I will start the pills on July 1st. Do you think it would case any harm if I took the pills saturday and sunday? I would be able to take them next week though because of my vacation. Or should I just start them July 1st? Does anyone have the Alli book that is sold seperately?

What is everyone eatting?

bev

Suzanne 3FC 06-22-2007 04:11 PM

Bev, I have the book "The alli Diet Plan" that I ordered from Amazon. I'm really impressed with the book and think it would be great even for people that don't take alli. It has very detailed menus for each phase covering each calorie level 1200, 1500, and 1800, and even includes options for meatless menus. It's filled with recipes, too. There are lists of foods, including a ton of restaurant foods, that include fat and calories. And it even includes a fitness plan. The whole book is filled with everything someone needs to follow a balanced, low fat and calorie controlled diet. It doesn't have fluff for filler like many diet books.

prinny 06-22-2007 04:47 PM

I was embarassed buying them and I'm embarassed posting about them! :o

But this is all in the name of science, right?

I have been on South Beach which is low fat for several weeks with one day off last weekend. Last week I totally hit a plateau and I know being bad Saturday didn't help so I decided to give it a shot.

Something else to note, about my trying to diet in general is that for the past year I have been under extreme and constant stress which I will talk about in another post.

So far I have had no effects though I had a headache yesterday that was different from my usual ones and I'm fairly certain it was the pills. This morning I was 161.8, (been hovering around 161 for over a week), so we shall see.

SASCS 06-22-2007 05:03 PM

Day two, still no "effects": We went out for lunch and I had a spinach salad with chicken (my favorite). I ordered the dressing on the side and used probably less than a teaspoon on the salad because I didn't want to risk the "treatment effects". The salad tasted great with very little dressing. Tonight some friends are coming over. Has anyone had wine while taking Alli? I would like to have a glass or two of white wine, but wasn't sure.

Bev 06-22-2007 06:00 PM

Is anyone using the nutrition tracker on th Allie website? To me it seems like a pain. I have calorie king on my palm so I will just use that to keep track.

I can't believe they have me at 1800 calories. I weigh 165 and I think that is way to many calories.

Bev

pjbeau 06-22-2007 06:16 PM

Well, I'm on day 1 and so far, so good. I decided to go ahead and start this morning instead of waiting until dinner. I had a Slimfast shake for breakfast. I went out for lunch and had grilled chicken and a salad with a tomato based fat free dressing. I can't tell you what the name is because I just told the waitress to bring whatever they had in fat free. Then, I had light yogurt for a snack this afternoon. Probably going to pick up fresh fish on the way home for dinner.

Prinny - I completely understand about being embarrassed. When I went to buy my pills at CVS, there was this mega buff body builder types in the line in front of me. I'm holding my Alli box and he's got 3 or 4 bottles of vitamins and protein shake mix. At first I was embarrassed, wondering what he thought about me, but then I figured if he needed to use all that stuff to give him his ideal body, I can surely use one pill to help me achieve mine. We shouldn't be embarrassed about getting healthy.

Bev - I would follow the diet through your vacation, but wait to start the pills when you get back. No point putting your body through the adjustment more than once. Also, I have been disappointed in the Alli site, it is just too slow. I use Fit Day to track my food intake.

Momscookingtofu 06-22-2007 07:08 PM

Started Alli

I started Alli last Saturday (June 16). Had no problems Saturday or Sunday. Early Monday morning I began experiences some of the "treatment effects" ie: orange oil in the toilet after using it, but nothing severe. The middle of the morning (2:00a.m.) I got up to get some water and was hit with vertigo. I had to cling to the walls to make it back to the bed. I wondered if this was a rather severe side effect of Alli. I didn't take any Alli for 2 days and went to the doctor who confirmed it was vertigo (only had it happen once in my life and that was 20 years ago and a reaction to stopping medication). However, the doctor didn't seem convinced that the cause was Alli. I began taking Alli again this morning. I'll let ya'll know if I get vertigo again. Oh, I'm also down 3 lbs since I started taking it. Part of it is fear of "treatment effect" (I've had colitis so I know what that is all about!!), part of it seems to be decreased appetite, which may also be due to feeling nauseated from the vertigo. But, I'm sticking with it for now.

prinny 06-22-2007 08:46 PM

Some guy even tried to start up a conversation with me while I was in line buying the stuff. I just wanted to hit him over the head with it and run away! It was mortifying.

Is it more embarassing because the side effects are, well, what they are and seem fairly common knowledge since people are making fun of it? I don't know, maybe. I'm always embarassed by buying diet or exercise stuff anyway. boo.

tkt117 06-22-2007 08:50 PM

I enjoyed reading everyone's posts. I too am embarrassed to be using this pill as a crutch... but fear of orange oily stuff is proving to be an excellent motivator! I am not following the alli diet plan, however I am following my WW. The better eating is what is causing the loss of weight... but the Alli is keeping me honest.

Today I caught myself going same cajun shrimp dip, loaded with mayo and cheese, and I caught myself just in time. I have realized that there are a lot of instances in the past, when I did not catch myself and just ate it. So instead of eating something packed with fat and calories... I had an apple. :)

So far so good... I am actually having the opposite effect of the drug so I have been upping my fiber intake. ;) My headache is long gone. It went away when I started taking my multi vitamin.

Good Luck!

cmbmom05 06-22-2007 10:06 PM

Ladies, reading your experiences regarding alli while working the diet or your own low fat diet has made me pretty much decide that I will take alli once the contest at work is over.

I'm trying to decide where I'm going to get it though. I definitely won't buy it from work because I don't want "them" to know I am on it. Then there's Wally World. I'd have to go in personally to get it and it's kind of embarassing. But, to order it online would cost more with the price and shipping because here Wally World is about 5-10$ cheaper than the rest.

I never got an asnwer to my question about snacks on the alli site. The moderators must not want to post questions from people who haven't registered with the product yet. If any of you are willing to help, here it is: is it ok to have a snack with under 3 grams of fat between meals or should we really stick to totally FF snacks? Or would I have to reduce the fat in breakfast and use the difference for the snack? IE 12gm at breakfast and 3 at break? The reason I ask this is because I usually have a cheese stick with an apple or some kind of stone fruit for my first break at work. The protein in the cheese usually keeps me sated til lunch and I wouldn't want to spend my morning starving because I didn't get to have th fat/protein combination. I usually eat breakfast at 4:30 and don't take my lunch til 9:30ish. Break is at 7:30ish and I wouldn't want to have too much fat too close together. I can't see breakfast ever having close to 15 gms of fat unless I had two T of PB on my bread which I love to do.

I really like to plan ahead and want to come up with ideas in case I have to keep snacks totally fat free. (partly because of our $$ budget too.)

Thanks ladies and thanks for the updates.

SASCS 06-22-2007 10:11 PM

I can understand all of the posts about being embarrassed. I ordered my through the internet and was willing to pay more than buying it at a store. My hangup is more that I don't want my MIL or some other family members to know, in case I don't lose weight and it looks like I failed again. I had to take my husband to Urgent Care at the hospital because he got a large palm splinter in his finger even though he was wearing gloves. After two hours at the hospital we were both starving so we drove through Taco Bell and without knowing any fat counts of any foods I order a cheese quesadilla. When I got home I looked it up and it has 28g of fat. Whoops. No treatment effects yet. Staying close to home just in case.

At least for my plan it says snacks are 3 grams of fat.

mommyto3 06-23-2007 08:03 AM

The alli diet plan book says, "Make sure to plan snacks in your daily allotment. A good rule of thumb is to aim for a total of 200 calories and 2-6 grams of fat per day for snacks."

I think that the number of fat grams in a snack has to do with the number of calories that you are consuming/day. It said that if you are following the 1800 cal/day plan that your snacks should contain at least 2 fat grams.

HTH,

Deborah

Momscookingtofu 06-23-2007 08:08 AM

CMBMOM05, I snack alot. In fact, one of my favorite snacks are peanuts and almonds, and they are very high in fat (16grams per serving). I have not any any adverse reaction from the Alli while snacking. And I'm down another pound today.

cmbmom05 06-23-2007 09:48 AM

Thanks so much ladies. I wasn't looking for specifics, just a general feel and you came through. I don't want to have to worry about funky stuff once I start taking it and needed to know if I'd have to come up with a new morning snack. Worse comes to worse I can look for FF cheese sticks or something.

Time to start looking for web sites with good ideas on FF snacks that don't get boring.

Thanks again.

:cheer:My mailorder of Alli showed up yesterday so I sat down and read the literature and took my first pill. Dinner was some fish and a blueberry smoothie. So far I don't have a headache or any other things that have been mentioned in the other posts. Just popped my breakfast pill and will be having a fried egg sandwich made with EggBeaters and Miracle Whip Lite so I should be well under the 15g of fat per meal. I'm kind of scared about Monday and going to work but if I realllllly watch things, I should be OK. I think a big challenge will be the 4th of July - how can you have the 4th without hot dogs or burgers on the grill? :?: Guess for a couple of days on either side of the holiday I won't take the pills.

channning102 06-23-2007 10:31 AM

I have just finished one week. I usually lose about 2-3 pound a month. I don't diet, just exercise and try to cut down on calories. I lost 2 pounds this week on allie. I did not have any negative effects. I did have lose stool one day only. I ate pretty much what I wanted just looked at fat. I made better choices because I did not what the negative side effects. I will not weigh myself again until september. I get to hung up on the scale. All and all allie has been beneficial to me.

You can have hotdogs and hamburgers on the grill. There are so many good hot dogs. Boars head lite skin hotdogs have 6 grams of fat each. Also their is alot of chicken sauages out their that taste good. Emeril and Amy's are brand that come to mind. Hamburgers can work too. Get a low fat ground beef (95%) and some ground chicken breast. Mix it. It makes a great burger. No one will know that their is turkey in it. Weight watcher sells buns but their are a lot of other brands. July 4 can be lower in fat, just by making some changes.

Hi Ladies!!!

I started the diet on Thursday. I took the Alli 2 times on Thursday but b/c of the treatment effects I didn't take it yesterday--we were in town all down and I didn't want to chance any accidents!

There is one thing I'm totally confused about. If you take the Alli right now- does it only work for approximately 2 hours and then it's gone?? My real question is if I take Alli at lunch and then end up accidentally eating a higher fat supper but skip the Alli will there be treatment effects?? There are just certain things that the Alli message board isn't answering for me. It's not that I'm planning to cheat but for instance last night dh wanted to go to Logan's Roadhouse--Nothing on there menu looks low fat. I picked mesquite grilled chicken on rice pilaf hold the parmesan dressing with steamed brocolli-which by the way was steamed with butter and cinnamon apples. Somehow I don't think it was under 19 fat grams.

I will restart my Alli tomorrow b/c today is filled with errands and grocery shopping.

fairylights 06-23-2007 11:23 AM

I am new to the forum and have a few questions about alli. If you eat a low fat meal, why do you even need to take the pills? And, alli is supposed to be half strength of the prescription form. Can you take 2 pills at mealtime, instead of one, to equal the prescription Xenical?
Thanks

Bev 06-23-2007 11:34 AM

Aces 21, It was either the website or the book that stated if you forget to take your pill before you eat you can take it up to an hour or two(?) after you eat your meal.
