Well, you certainly are eating low fat/cal, getting plenty of veggies & fruits too. Maybe your body is in plateau mode for some reason. I guess there is nothing we can do but wait and see for a few days :(
Have you been exercising at all? Sorry you are stuck at one point, that must be really frustrating. |
4 Days!!!!
Hi all,
Been reading all your posts and you guys seem great...really supportive! Have been on Alli for four days and absolutely love this product...I call it the Scared Skinny Diet ! All joking aside have had no side effects at all really has just made me regular...that was a big problem for me! For some reason am less hungry...have to force myself to get all these calories in me...I think I was starving myself and then binging on hi-calorie food was in a real bad cycle. Have lost 4 Ibs so far and was stuck in a really big rut. I am feeling great! Hope everyone else is as excited as I am! Have a lot of weight to lose so hopefully will be hearing from you guys often! |
Maybe....
Hi Paula,
Thanks for the welcome! I had an idea when I read your post. Let me please preface this by saying that I am not trying to pry or offend. :( It is just that I had the same experience when I first started taking it--I had no loss for the first 3-4 days. Then my period started, completely off schedule, out of the blue. The pounds disappeared the next day that had been masked with the water weight I gained in perparation for the big, unexpected event. I looked it up on the site and was a little concerned that the same thing had happened to A LOT of people withing the first 3-4 days. Betty Kovacs, the nutritionist/moderator on the alli site said that she found out that irregular periods were a side effect of orlistat. If you usually have water gain a few days before you start, maybe that's why it hasn't shown yet??? Just a thought. It is so frustrating when you are doing such a good job eating and recording everything (and you really ARE!!!! You go girl!:carrot:). I hope that whatever the hold up is, it clears soon so you can see the resutls of all your hard work. Julie |
Where can I get one?
Thingirl, that has to be the coolest avatar. I want a butt just like that too!
|
Thingirl & Julie - Thanks for your input, I do appreciate it.
As for the TOM thing, I am on Seasonique so I have TOQ (time of the quarter) and I had one last month, so it's not time. But...I could still be having a hormone surge from my body thinking it should be having a TOM. I haven't been exercising, but I know I should be. No excuse for not doing so, I have a treadmill and a bike, just gotta get my butt in gear. I'm certainly not giving up, I'm too stubborn for that. We'll see what the weekend brings. Welcome, Ginny! |
Hello everyone! I'm on day 5 of Alli and I feel great!! I'm eating well and scared to even dip my big toe in the over the fat gram pool! I'm loving this TOOL!!! I talked my DH's ear off today chatting how I think Alli will help me unlearn bad habits of mindless zombie snacking.
Paula - I'm thinking that it is possible that TOM is rearing it's evil joke on you. It does it to me all the time. Keep saying to yourself your eating right and give that scale the birdie! ( I mean tweety hehe ) |
I think that there are so many people hating on Alli because they aren't willing to make the changes. If they convince themselves that Alli doesn't do any good than they can convince themselves that they might as well not bother.
You all are inspiring me. I'm going to start my low fat on Saturday and taking Alli on Tuesday, since I'll be home T &W. Usually on any kind of counting diet I have skimped all day and then had a huge dinner, no more of that. Keep to plan and stand your ground! |
Hey Paula... that is a real mystery. You are eating like a bird. :) (I wish I could eat like that!) I think someone may have touched on this, but maybe you are not eating enough. I know that when I follow WW sometimes if I don't use all of my points... I don't lose.
You are definately showing self control and good eating habits. Give it another couple of days and maybe you will see some movement. :) Ethereal... when I read back my post I realized it came out totally wrong. I didn't mean to sound snippy. I hope that you didn't take it that way. I am actually being very honest and not flippant when I say that if you eat a low fat low cal menu you may not benefit from alli. While it does eliminate up to 100 cals a day, I think it is most effective because it "scares people skinny" (LOL...love that phrase!). So I really hope that you didn't take offense, because none was intended. Well my TOM showed up today, so I don't expect to see anymore movement on the scale in the downward direction. I actually kind of messed up with snacking today, so I had a non existent "fat" meal for dinner out of fear I might spend the rest of movie night in the bathroom! ;) Good Luck ladies and have a great weekend! |
Hmm... I just check my calendar and evidently I am just losing my mind. Tom is right on time. Wierd! ;)
Beth~ I think you may be on to something. Some people just want an excuse NOT to be held accountable. I evidently don't mind crashing and burning... it would just be nice to finally find something that works once and for all. :) |

Sweet of you to be sure, though - so many folks online couldn't care less about the people at the other end. I do appreciate it~ EDIT: And to clarify, I in no way eat an ultra-low-fat diet myself, so after consideration I have decided to give alli a try, as well, as a tool to reform my eating habits. Even with my current medium fat/carb diet, I have a hard time reaching 1500 calories per day, so my challenge with alli will be finding enough fresh produce and fat-free foods to scramble for 1500 - 1800 calories! I guess I'm going to have to rely on a lot more carbs, unless I want to stuff myself 'til I burst? I'm only on day 4 of my new healthier lifestyle, so I'm hoping my body will have a bit of room to adjust to all this exercise and lower fat before my alli order arrives. |
Exercise
I know what you mean about getting your butt in gear and using the exercise equiptment! I have a lovely Nordik Track that I haven't used in years except as hanging space for laundry that I need to iron. I need to 1-do all the ironing and 2-drag the machine to the middle of the room so I can use it!
Road trip to Austin yesterday so didn't take any Alli since Wednesday. I was really careful Wednesday and Thursday because I know that Friday would be a lost cause - and it was. I got the lowest fat thing on the menu (they actually listed calories & fat grams!) but the lowest thing was still 25 grams of fat. So today is back on the Alli, back on the food plan, and maybe I'll iron since it's supposed to be rainly all weekend.:D So far no TEs but I'm like you on that point too - maybe I'll try to push the limit just to see what happens. May have to wait until August to do that tho, at least on purpose. I'm not on vacation until then and am too scared to risk it! I really appreciate everyone on this board, it really has helped me so much heing able to talk to someone about this! |
OK, today is day 6 for me on Alli, and so far I have not had any real T.E's but I definately know it is doing its job. I am amazed that fat can actually pass through the body and come out the other end in tact, it is gross to think I have been ignoring all that fat in the past and just letting my body do as it will with it. I am so glad I am trying this. I was pretty skeptical at first like everyone, and it is really working! I can actually SEE what it is keeping my body from absorbing
Way to go everyone, keep it up! |
Good Morning
Day 5 for me and i am doing pretty good! 4 pounds down and will start working out today! hate to start to things on the same day! guess I am not good at multi-tasking! For anyone not losing right away don't lose hope! Keep going, try to reach the high end of your fat and caloric levels thats been hard for me! I have over 90Ibs to lose but I am making mini goals, started at 215 want to get 199 that is more attainable than 125, so take smaller goals and feel good about yourself! Ginny

I have a question. Are you guys following the diets on the website and doing the check in once a week, and filling out the nutrition logs there?Ok that was serveral questions lol.
|
I am only doing the "check in's" on the web site. I have a family so following anyones "meal plan" is virtually impossible for me.
Good Luck |
Hi FitbyForty - I hope to be fit by 60! This is my 5th day of alli and I will check in on their website on the 3rd. I figure they can access our data that we enter & use it to see the results from the general public. I don't know if that do it or not - but I would if I were a big company!
I am not doing any other logins on the site. I keep track of my calories & fat grams in my little book! Paula - From experience I have found that eating too little calories & fat puts my body in shock! It closes down and burns other things besides fat because it thinks it might need that storage of fat in the future. (That's from a doctor not me!) I personally can't do "without" sampling all the wonderful foods! So I watch the portion size, amount of calories & fat now. And it can be done. I also learn from skinny people - they eat everything but just a bite or two. I've just got to learn not to eat 15-20 bites! :) My teens have also enjoyed my cooking the last week with making the plates look like restaurant food servings! I put the salads on individual plates & colorful entree foods on smaller plates. Hopefully they will learn that these are the correct portion sizes! Not what restaurants serve. But they eat all the time! And at 51 I can't do that anymore, obviously. Sorry - I got carried away there. I just think that we can enjoy everything that is good for us in this world - and "our" control is a bit part of our weight loss. ~~sheila P.S. - I am still very tempted to eat that big white cake with chocolate frosting out in my kitchen right now that I made for the hubby and kids. I caught myself licking the beaters when I was through beating before I started thinking "Oh no, I'm on alli! Stop it!" & I DID! |
Hi Again - I'm new to talking in these chat rooms or whatever you call this. What is a DB & DH? Thanks! And how do you all get those smiley faces & bars with your weight? ~~sheila

I love Alli!
I lost some weight using LA Weight Loss, but I started to plateau. I started Alli 3 days ago and despite the headache for the first two days, I am down 2 pounds! So far, no side effects, but I have been really good. I even resisted ice cream the other night! I am hoping this will help me take off the last 10 or so pounds. Good luck to us all!!!! :dizzy:
|
Cygnss... from experience... don't eat the cake! That is the only TE I have had was after I had a small piece of cake. I had no idea that cake had so much fat in it! YIKES! It will be angel food cake from here on out for me! :)
|
fitbyforty - I'm not doing the check ins, I really didn't find the Alli site all that user friendly and I'm keeping track of all the important stuff on my own spreadsheet. And in the back of my mind, I can't help but think that they are compiling all of the stuff entered to see how well the product works, how they should market it in the future, etc. It is a big drug company after all. I'm not into conspiricy theories, but I do believe that Big Brother is out there in many ways!
I'm doing Volumetrics and not the recipes on the Alli site. The diet seems to mesh really well with the pills because it's a low fat program. I have made a couple of the recipes out of the Volumetrics companion coon book. I also have a book by Cooks Illustrated that I really love. It's called The Best Lite Recipe and has tons of lower fat recipes. Not necessarily low cal or totally low fat, but lower fat. I made a chicken stir fry and it was to die for - plus the fat was low enough that I could have 2 services and it fit into both Volumetrics and the 15 fat grams per meal for Alli. I was in heaven. I'm doing the beef stir fry tonight and although it's not as low fat as the chicken, it's still low enough at 11 grams per serving to fit the Alli plan. cygnss - I'm not sure what DB and DH mean either. To me it's dead beat and designated hitter! I think it's maybe dear husband and dear boyfriend? Or maybe dumb if you are mad at them. As to getting the counter dealy, up at the top of the page is the quick links. In the drop down box is edit signature and signature weight tracker. You can check a box in the edit signature that will automatically put your weight tracker in your signature when you post. Took me a while to figure it out and I'm still not sure I'm doing it right because when Ienter a new weight, I seem to have to start all over again with setting up the tracker. I must be doing something wrong.:?: |
tkt117 - Thanks for the advice! I still haven't had any TE's of any kind and I won't eat that cake! I love angel food cake also. I've been using the recipes from the WW site, like the pineapple angel food cake, chocolate angel food, etc. I need to start counting how many times I can disquise it! LOL But for those of you out there that aren't using WW - their site with recipes is excellent. A lot of recipe exchanges going on with the calorie, fat, carb, etc information right there for you to view. Just love it.
bobbigene - Thanks for the weight tracker and the DB/DH info. I hope it's not boyfriend and husband because someone posted that she was doing this with her DB & DH. If so, she should be losing weight ... the stress of keeping both you know! LOL ~~sheila |
waiting for IT to happen
Last night I ate from Wendy's. It was late (around 9:00) and I got a jr bacon cheeseburge and a vanilla frosty. I did have a pill, but really never had an effect. My husband and I decided to go to the chinese buffet and I ate what I wanted, in smaller portions - but now I'm waiting for IT to happen. I'm going to stick around the house tonight and tomorrow. I'm ripping the wall paper from the kitchen tomorrow.
I too have trouble eating all the calories. But I noticed when I did, I lost a pound. I had my black jeans on today - the ones that were too tight and now they're not! :carrot: Can't wait for my next weigh in on Friday. I had so much food at lunch, I won't eat tonight. After all the running around, I want to nap. But I did get a Body by Jake thigh and butt machine at a thrift store for $3.00! I'm going to hose it off and clean it and use it everyday! I know this works cause I've done it before! Heck yeah! :carrot: |
Angelfood cake!! I forgot about it being low in fat! I've really tried to stay away from desserts in order to get my fat from my meals. Angelfood cake will be a nice treat!:D
|
LOL... debalina! At first I thought you were wearing your black jeans so that when IT happened it wouldn't be very noticeable. Now I know you just want to show off your new sexy curves in your tight black jeans! ;)
Good Luck... I am fearing IT too. I just went out shopping with dm (dear mom) and ds (dear son) and they ordered a pizza. So I had a slice of cheese pizza... it is all I have had most of the day, but I am SURE that this huge greasy slab of dough and cheese excedes 15 grams! DH (Dear hubby) is getting a good chuckle out of the fact that I won't get farther than 10 feet from the bathroom. I haven't had a real bad TE in the last 2 weeks, but I am sure my day of reckoning will come one day! :) BTW: I just bought two packages of angel food cake mix in case I need a cake fix! :) Pineapple angel food cake sound delicious! YUMMY! |
4th day on Alli and I lost another pound. :carrot:
The weird thing is that I've always had those feelings of "I got to go NOW!" mostly at work. I have to go every 2 hours and the feeling comes out of nowhere. But now that I'm taking Alli... I don't have that feeling anymore, and I'm going a lot less now. Pretty cool TE if you ask me LOL Also, I don't see any of that "orange oil" y'all are talking about. Does that happen only if you go overboard on the fat? One question, how fast does Alli work anyways? if I go overboard on fat when I take alli, when should TEs show up? |
Hi everyone...I have been loitering around the site for a while and just figured out how to reply. I am thinking about trying Alli and all of your input hs been helpful. I have been on low carb for so long the idea of switching to low fat, (eating less of good fats, not eating bad fats) is confusing. I believe that low carb has worked so I am a little nervous to make a change. Even eating high protein can be a challenge with the fat content of meat and stuff. What kinds of things have you all been eating? High protein??? High carbs???
I plan to go by mine in the next day or two and will start on Tuesday.;) |
Thank you for the replies. I think I'm gonna start tomorrow!!!
|
sstambler - Welcome. I just found this board also. Everyone is so friendly here. I did the low carb diet and lost, but I couldn't continue, because I like to cook & eat. So I joined Weight Watchers. Best plan yet for me. I eat what I want basically, watch the number of calories and fat content and keep within a certain amount of allowed points per meal. I started alli to increase my weight loss to 25% more. I have not had any TE (treatment effects) as of this time. I was alloted (sp?) 1800 calories with up to 19 gms of fat a meal, 60 daily. I have not even come close to 60 daily on fat gms. But on my evening meal I do get about 15-17. I don't even take the pill at breakfast because I don't consume much fat. (Except I did have 2 slices of bacon, an egg & english muffin for breakfast 2 days ago. And I did take a pill for that!) I don't go over because I DO NOT want any TE's. I eat a pretty balanced diet. If you get the alli starter kit it will tell you how many exchanges of food groups to eat. I didn't realize SUGAR wasn't a food group though! :carrot: Hope this helps a little and if you have a question I'm sure anyone would be willing to answer it for you.
tkt117 - Thanks for letting us know was dm, ds and dh means! :thanks: Mommyto3 - Enjoy the cake! Angel food that is. BTW - if you crave chocolate and ice cream, the Weight Watchers Giant Chocolate Ice Cream Bar only has 110 calories and 1 gm of fat in it. It's one of my daily snacks I treat myself to. ~~sheila |
Personally... I think you have to go with whatever you can commit to. I have done it all...low fat...low carb...no carb ;) ...WW.... I am willing to consider any tool that can help me in this weight loss journey. So far I have reduced my choices to alli. That doesn't mean that the atkins or sbd or ww diet won't work for you. You need to know yourself and be aware of your own limitations and weaknesses. I think ultimately that is the key to success. We are all suseptable to temptation... find what works and run with it (or give it the old college try!). Just keep searching until you find it. If you give up... that is the only failure! :)

Hee hee! That made me laugh! The TE's haven't made me mess my pants. :dizzy: Since I am lactose intolerant, I've become pretty successful at *squeezing* and not having any bathroom accidents. (I know, pretty gross - but it's the truth!) :^: Some happened this morning and I feel it again - but it wasn't an uncontrollable "I've got to get to a bathroom NOW!" kind of thing. I was happy to see the orange oil. But I have a question, and I know it's going to be gross - but does anyone's movements smell worse since using Alli??? Or is it my change in diet??? I know - EWWWW! GROSS!!!! But a girl's got to know? Thank god we keep scented spray in the bathroom at home and at work! :smug: |
Well I am back from vacation so I am starting Alli today. So far so good. I am going to be really careful with what I eat.
Bev |
So, I see that it's recommended that you spend a few days eating low-fat before starting the capsules. I'm anxious to start taking them but yesterday was NOT low fat so I didn't take them this morning. Would taking them tomorrow give me TE with that fatty food w/in the last 48 hours? Thanks!!!
|
It won't let me register!!
I put in the registration code and halfway through registering the site said it was having problems and to try again later.
Now it's telling me the code has already been used and try again. But i can't access any of the online tools w/out registering!!! Plus, their customer support is only open M-F 9-5pm. |
Week 2 Gone
I've finished week #2 now and have lost 8.5 lbs. And I haven't felt the least bit deprived of anything. I am enjoying all the "fat free" fruit there is available right now and I have had some no fat/no sugar added ice cream with Hershey's chocolate over the top (no fat in that either) so things are going great at the moment. Also, no TE's - the orange spots are in the toilet but that tells me that things are working as they should.
Hope everyone is doing great - keep up the good work. DNR |
DNR - That's great! I was wondering how the second week would be with alli & I'm glad to hear you are still losing! I finish my first week tomorrow and we'll see what I've lost. ~~sheila
|
Good Morning everyone! Had a good weekend. Not much "going overboard" with the excessive fat grams. I did have a few bites of cheesecake, but I limited my intake and didn't seem to have any negative TEs. I can't wait till my weigh in day!
|
Back from vacation
I started Alli almost two weeks ago. The first week I lost 5 pounds with no TE or headache!!! I went on a short vacation to Reno for a wedding and forgot my pills. So I didn't take any for the last five days. When I got home I had not gained or lost any weight (unusual for me on vacation-I usually gain). I didn't go overboard in Reno, but I didn't exercise either unless you count gambling as an exercise. Anyway, I am back to clean eating and Alli and am excited about the process.
To debalina: My son and I were sitting in the living room one evening when I was a little gaseous. He looked at me and said that was the worst fart he had ever smelled. (I doubt it though since he and his friends are all teenagers) I was about to blame it on the dog, but just couldn't. I just laughed. So to answer your question about smell, I guess I would have to say yes. It was nice to read all of the supportive comments. |
I started Alli yesterday. I am so hoping this help : )
|
Smell
Ditto on the smell question. I'm surprised my DH didn't mention it last night night. :D
DNR |
Good morning!
Well, I lost 1 lb. I am still a bit discouraged, but I'm hanging in there. Hopefully my body is finally kicking into gear. We're going on a family camping trip on Wed for five days. At first I was going to take a break from the Alli while on the trip. I have decided not to do that, especially if I'm finally getting adjusted to taking them. If I'm serious about this change, I've got to apply it in all of my activities. Everyone have a great day! |
