I plan on just going for it, as I am already eating low fat. I think they say that because human nature is to binge before starting a new diet, to go out and have one last hurrah, and start the diet the next day. Something like this with Alli would have unpleasant results lol

bobbigene 06-26-2007 07:08 PM

:coach:I told only one person that I work with about it. She and I are both trying to follow the volumetrics food plan and we had talked about Alli. She said she was too scared to try it. I told her I haven't had any problems, but I am being very careful so that I don't have any issues. Now if someone overheard us, well then the cat is out of the bag and I don't really care. :gossip: I told two other friends and one of them had been on Xenical ages ago and lost some weight but she gave it up because she said she just couldn't cut the fat out of her life. I can understand, it's hard. But if you make your mind up then you can do it.

I have been trying to plan my meals, but that doesn't always work well. So I try to just have the same thing every morning for breakfast - cereal and skim milk. Then pretty much the same thing for lunch - Lean Cuisine, some fruit and a snacksize ziploc bag of pretzels so that I don't miss the salt and crunch too much. Dinner is pretty much wing it. I'm single so it's easier to not plan as much. The Lean Cuisines seem to work really well with the Alli since they are pretty low in fat.

I haven't had any headaches. I've noticed that I'm having to pee more often then before too. I don't think I'm drinking any more water than before. Maybe it's a by product of using the stored fat rather than the Alli. It's not enough to make me stop using the Alli or stop dieting!

mezmerize 06-26-2007 07:12 PM

I'm on my second day. I agree I've heard some terrible things about "poopy pants" Well I'm blocked up!!! Leave it to me to have a weird reaction. I'm getting more than enough fiber and eating pretty much what the myalliplan food list states. I've tweaked some but have never gone over my fat grams. The treatment effects scare me. I do fill very full with the meals and have even skipped a snack here and there. Due to not being hungry. I'm still emptying my bladder alot. My weight in day is Thursday I'm hoping I see a loss since I had a last week.

StillTryin 06-26-2007 08:27 PM

Just started!

Well hello. I am not new to 3fc or diets, but I am new to Alli. I had to re-register with 3fc so I have a new username, but I was here a few years ago. I am down from 215 to 178, I was at 160, but BOUNCED in the last 3 months!!! So I thought I better do something.
I had been following a low cal, type lifestyle to lose the initial weight. I started doing that again, but man is it hard to get back into the swing of it. So when I heard about Alli I thought maybe this would help me. I have been taking it since yesterday, so I am 6 pills into it, and have had no treatment effects, and actually goofed up last night and ate some potatoe chips, before I realized what I was doing. So I quick put them away and got my head on straight again. Today has been better.
I hope this helps. I also hope the TE stay away!
Either way it is good to be back at 3FC!

YummyMummy77 06-26-2007 10:16 PM

You girls definitely have me thinking of giving it a try. I appologize if this has been explained but we hear so much about how "good" oils are so important in our diet. I'm assuming that this pill isn't differentiating between blocking good oils and bad oils??

PsyDiva 06-26-2007 11:38 PM

tkt117 & mommyto3....I think I have adopted you guy's ideology about Alli. The critrics have been brutal...my family have been brutal....but like I've told them you have to do what works for you. Alli has been my voice of reason when it comes to food. It helps me to make better meal selections and stay focused on my weight loss goals.

Shayz 06-26-2007 11:46 PM

If I may, I would highly suggest that anyone using this also track their food by using a tracker like The Daily Plate or Fit Day. It is amazing to see how much our calories and fat grams really add up when we think we aren't eating that much.

PattiAnn 06-27-2007 12:55 AM

Hi! Everyone, I started using Alli last Friday. The book suggested starting over a weekend, incase of treatment effects. I am on Day 6. I had a treatment affect yesterday, while out shopping with my daughter. I practically ran to the bathroom. Since then I have been more careful at following the plan, and not having more than 15mg of fat per meal. It is so hard for me to believe that I can have 1800 calories. Does anyone know what would happen, if I ate lower calories? I am having trouble understanding. So I need to eat the 1800 to lose weight. This seems like alot to me. In the past, I have tried eating 14oo and less, but never losing. Maybe my body needs more calories, because of the weight that I am at. If anyone has answers for me, HELP. Keep up the good work. I will weigh in on Sunday. Patti 256/256/140

tkt117 06-27-2007 02:29 AM

mesmerize... you are NOT alone. A couple of us have had the problem with "constipation." I think for me it was because I cut back on my fiber, but I have started putting it back in my diet. :carrot: I am still not 100% but I am getting there. :)

Prinny... be patient. I know that when I start diets I usually don't see a change for a week to ten days. It can be really frusrtrating :?: , but if you follow the plan as prescribed you WILL lose weight. It just may take you body a little while to adjust.

I agree with Shayz... I am tracking everything that I put in my mouth and I am coupling it with my WW plan. Even if you aren't eating fat... you can still get too many calories in during the day and stall your loss... but on the flip side if you get to few you won't lose weight either. It is like a huge science experiment with your body!

I feel very blessed to have found group of people who are so supportive... and my dh even though he runs from the room every time I exit the bathroom! LOL... he is avoiding the updates! ;)

Good Luck!

Nikki5184 06-27-2007 08:24 AM

Hi all - Found this online... Body fat: Where does it go when you lose weight?

Q: Where does body fat go when you lose weight? How does your body get rid of it?
A: When you consume fewer calories than your body needs, your body turns to fat for energy. Body fat is broken down through a series of complex metabolic processes. Your body uses the energy produced by these processes. The waste products from these processes are water and carbon dioxide. You excrete water primarily through urine and sweat, and carbon dioxide by exhaling.

Ta-da! The 'real' reason everyone has too pee so much when losing weight! :rain:

Starting Alli this weekend (they recommend starting when you'll be close to home in case of the unpleasantries that can occur!). Hoping this helps push my diet a bit. Started at the YMCA a month ago and I eat pretty well... Let's see if this gives me the extra push that I need to get back down to my "pre-college" weight. Anyone planning to start this weekend and want a e-mail diet buddy?

Everyone's posts are great inspiration!

Good luck to all!

Well, I haven't told anyone other than you guys. When i went to the pharmacy to buy Alli, there were so many people holding the package and downing the product and the people who would buy it. I almost didn't buy it:( The look on their faces and the sudden silence when I picked up the box and went to buy was upsetting. I actually felt ashamed, like I was doing something wrong.

But I have gotten over that and here I am. Day 3. I can't wait to weigh on Thursday!

DNR 06-27-2007 09:48 AM

Feeling Embarrassed??

Hi,

This is the way I look at it . . . why should you feel embarrassed to buy a product that you feel will help you in your weight loss effort? You are the ONLY person who can decide if you are worth the effort to do something about your weight and you are the one who has to do all the hard work to accomplish your goal. Those people who see you buy it and make you feel embarrassed aren't going to do it for you. There are a lot of them who probably need to do something about their weight too and look down on people who have the guts to do something about it.

So, if there's something out there that helps you, then get it, use it and get on with your journey to better yourself. Those people will be the ones who come to you later and say, "have you lost weight - how did you do it?" Then you can be the one to choose whether or not you want to tell them how you did it.

We all need to put ourselves first for once and do what we need to do. Good luck in your journey!

I bought the pill on Sunday and have already lost five pounds!! I didn't do any real dieting before Sunday so you'll be fine if you just go ahead and start! :)

debalina 06-27-2007 10:35 AM

Taking the pill

After reading some of the posts about taking or not taking the pill - I decided to respond. I take the pill with every main meal, whether the meal has fat or not. I want that stuff in my system all the time. I haven't had any accidents with running to the bathroom, but I have notice the orange oil in almost every #2. I don't see that as a bad thing. I see it as a positive thing. That stuff isn't in me and I smile. I know, sicko.

My official Alli weigh in is Friday, even though I weighed myself Tuesday when I bought the scale. I'm curious to see if I lost anything.

Keep up the good work!

mezmerize 06-27-2007 11:36 AM

Fellow Alli Users do not let others get you down for using this tool to help you get on track to being one HEALTHY person.
I've told family/friends and their responds were ewww! One sister was upset because she's having a 4th July party and I won't be able to eat some of the food! OH MY!! How bad for her!!!:?:
She asked why I didn't wait for a "good time" to start my "diet"!!! I clearly explained that a "good time" to start is when I was ready for my new lifestyle and there is always going to be a holiday, birthday, wedding and whatever else one celerbrates comming up so her idea of a good time would never be!!! Then she said you could have waited...I said and think how much weight I would have gained waiting til the 4th. That hit the spot and she moved on to something else.:carrot:
So stick to your guns I think the nay sayers are pretty closed minded ppl and aren't will to let others find their own way. IMO

As for me I'm on my 3rd day and all is well still blocked up and peeing like crazy. I'm getting more than enough fiber/water so I'm not worried. I'm eating on plan. My weight in is tomorrow. I was up to 225 lastweek I'm hoping my ticker will ring true tomorrow. As far the oil that others have mentioned I've not noticed any.

Betterra 06-27-2007 11:48 AM

I have been on the pills for 12 days, and have lost 4 lbs. which is ok, since I was only losing about 1 or less lbs per week. I didn't expect alot of weight loss with it since I am already on a very low fat, low calerie diet and not losing much to begin with.

StillTryin 06-27-2007 11:57 AM

I can totally agree on the feeling bad for taking it. I keep mine at my office in my desk and carry the shuttle home to use for Dinner and Breakfast. My DH has never had weight issues, can eat whatever he wants and NOT gain an ounce...he is the type that actually want to gain like 30lbs (and he could use a few extra lbs, but not 30!) He just doesnt understand why I am always watching what I eat, or going on a diet. I am not "Fat" but I am over weight and I am VERY VERY VERY self conscious about my size. I find that at 160lbs I feel pretty confident and so that is my basic goal, to get there and STAY there. I would love for 160 to be my high weight and 155 to be my low. I hope Alli helps!
I have been taking it for 3 days now and the only thing I have noticed is that when I do go to the restroom (I am normally very constipated) that it is a different color, more orange, than the usual. But as long as I am going, I am not complaining. I havnt had any actual treatment effects. I am very careful at breakfast and lunch about my Fat intake, dinner is a little harder because that is the family meal, so I usually skip the gravy, mashed potatoes, ect...I focus more on the meat and greens with some low or non fat dressing. My family hasnt really noticed my change in eating habits so that is good, because quite frankly I am tired of answering to them as to why I am not eating this or that. Thanks for letting me ramble

Thanks so much! I really appreciate you acknowledging my post.

Like I said, I will try it again after my vacation next week. Maybe it was a combination of starting Alli and other things going on in my life at the time. Who knows??? I am grasping at straws because I really want it to work for me.

I've lost 60 pounds but cannot for the life of me get off the last 20 I'd like to lose. Like I said, I do everything right, short of reducing my caloric intake below 1,200 calories a day. I don't think that would be good for me, though.

Anyway, that was a little off the subject.....Thanks again, Deborah for your kindness. I will try and have a great vacation!!

The Fit Plan

I signed up for the Fit Plan and I like how it keeps track of my calories and fat grams. So far I've eaten 726 calories and had 15 grams of fat and I just finished lunch. I need to eat 1800 calories and that's hard for me. Dinner tonight will be a small steak and some brown rice a roni. I am keeping track of my fat grams and this site helps a lot.

:D

katallan 06-27-2007 02:02 PM

DNR - I know I shouldn't feel ashamed and usually don't but the way they were demeaning people who might take it was horrible!

Mezmerize - I loved this one! "Then she said you could have waited...I said and think how much weight I would have gained waiting til the 4th." I can never think that fast on my feet!

The main reason I haven't told my husband - He will sabatoge any attempt at a diet! So I have just been cooking healthy, having only one plate, and using the excuse "I have to have something to take for lunch tommorrow.".

We will see tomorrow if the hard work has paid off!

pjbeau 06-27-2007 02:46 PM

Hi, everyone!

Okay, day 6 for me and I’m doing fine…no TE.

Prinny – Hang in there, I think some people just take longer to adjust to the change in diet.

Umagurl – If you go ahead and start now, you won’t let yourself go for the junk for fear of TE.

Bobbiegene – I hope I don’t sound preachy here, just showing concern. Be careful eating the frozen meals too often, they have loads of sodium. I think a few days a week is fine, but I would be careful of using them everyday. I know they are easy, but there is always a price for easy.

Mez – I had the same problem as you for the first 4 days. My body is starting to adjust, but not normal yet. I’m glad you stood up to your sister. It’s amazing how much we can let loved ones affect our lives. We have a big July 4th camping trip planned. We camp with family and usually, we take turns with the meals. I have been planning on how I can still participate, yet stay on track. They all know I have been on a low-fat low-cal diet for awhile now, so I shouldn’t raise too many eyebrows if I decline a dish. Can you imagine TE while camping!

StillTryin – Welcome back! I have the same ideal weight loss window as you. We’ll get there…good luck!

PattiAnn – Bobbigene and I also started last Friday. It will be good to have support in our journey. I have been following the LAWL diet for several months now, which I am continuing while taking Alli. The caloric intake for Alli is definitely different than I have been doing. On Alli I should eat 1600 calories a day, but I am pretty adjusted to eating 1200. I’m not sure what I should do either.

Nikki – thanks for the info!

Katallan – You did a good thing for yourself, be proud. Did you know those people in the store? If not, or even if you did, who cares what they think.

DNR – good words, love it.

Lek0414 – WTG!

Betterra – I’ve been a slow loser too, so I haven’t been surprised that the scale isn’t moving yet. Slow and steady…

Debalina – Okay, I’ll admit it…I’m a scale-a-holic. I know it’s bad, but I can’t help myself…I weigh everyday. My DH hid my scale from me this past Spring, to make a point that I’m obsessed. Well, I know that already and he learned real quick what a bad idea that was when the horns grew out of my head.

Shout outs to ThinGirl, PsyDiva, YummyMummy77, tkt117, and whoever else I may have missed.

Shayz 06-27-2007 03:09 PM

I am absolutely amazed today! I stepped on the scale today even though my "official" weigh in isn't until Saturday and found that I had lost another 2lbs! That makes a total of 6lbs in less than 2 weeks!

tkt117 06-27-2007 03:10 PM

You know I think the embarrassment will ease once you start to see the results. It is kind of like buying tampons when you were a kid... I would always be so embarrassed... but now... so what!

I bought mine at Costco... and I wasn't the least bit embarrassed. (Of course I hadn't over thought it at that point and it wasn't on the 5:00 news telling people to wear dark clothes!)

At least I am doing something about my weight unlike the millions of others who have decided to pass judgement and give up on themselves!

Go Girls! BTW---- I am down another pound. That is a total of 5 pounds in 10 days. I'll take it!

Good Luck... and if you don't see an immediate drop hang in there. Some people take a while to show results. :)

StillTryin 06-27-2007 04:33 PM

Just a reminder to everyone, including myself! DRINK PLENTY of water while dieting and when it is hot, since plain ol' H2O (Water) will help your body rid itself of waste products (FAT)

galengail 06-27-2007 04:37 PM

So, after reading everything you gals have been talking about, I went out and got the starter pack of Alli yesterday. I haven't told anyone I'm taking it. If I start to see results, then I may mention it, but I'm keeping it under wraps for now.

I already eat according to the first phase (with an exception here or there), so I took my first pill this morning with breakfast, and another with my lunch. Then I realized that my Cesar salad dressing is going to kill me if I eat it tonight (omg - look at all those fat grams!), so I went out and got some of the spray salad dressing at lunch. It's only 1 gram of fat for 10 sprays.

I've been stuck on this hump, not being able to dip below the 230's for quite some time now. I know part of it is because I cheat now and then by eating something I really shouldn't. So, I'm hoping that Alli will keep me on track. My weigh-in will not be until July 4th, so I'm hoping I'll have something else to celebrate on the holiday.

debalina 06-27-2007 04:59 PM

Will probably pay for this later

I bought a 22 oz container of rice pudding. I bought it for a small treat of dessert after lunch. I had the required serving and felt great.

Until now - I finished off the rest. :o I know I'll pay for it later via Alli and to top it off, I'm lactose intolerant. :o:o:o But it was worth it! :D Sometimes you have to eat what you want and then get back on the wagon.

My trick for eating dinner is I put my food on a smaller plate and after I take a bite, I sit on my hands. I eat way too fast and I'm trying to break that habit.

Even with eating the whole container, I'm still about 400 calories short. That includes my dinner. I'm using the calorie counter online and it keeps me in check. I always knew I didn't get enough to eat.

Tomorrow I have a presentation (I'm in marketing) and they said they'll have breakfast food. Coffee and juice and probably sweets. Lord help me! :?: I was going to eat a granola bar on the way to help with the hunger. Any suggestions????

DNR 06-27-2007 05:26 PM

Suggestion

debalina:

I would bring a container of cut up fruit for breakfast - most fruits have zero fat grams.

DNR

pjbeau 06-27-2007 05:30 PM

debalina - You need a little protein to curb your appetite. Have a protein shake in the morning. I drink a Slimfast Optima in the morning. Because of the protein in it, I can easily go until lunch without being hungry. Now, if it is just that sweets will be available and hard to resist, and you just must have something, pick the most healthy available (like a bagel) and cut it in half. Make sure you take a pill in the morning, that will help you make good choices too.

Good luck! :dust:

galengail 06-27-2007 06:52 PM

Paula, I love the protein shake idea! I'm a vegetarian, so it isn't as easy for me to get the protein that I need each day. I've been using protein bars, but I think I'd much rather have a shake in the morning instead. I'm still lacking about 400 calories myself, according the the counter on the Alli website. I'm also short about 20 fat grams. I'm going to the grocery store to pick up some fruits and veggies for snacks, and I may pick up something for my sweet tooth like pudding. If I get it in the individual packs, then I'll be sure to just eat one serving.

bobbigene 06-27-2007 07:50 PM

So enjoy reading the posts!

I so look forward to getting home from work and reading all of the news! Everyone seems to be doing really well which really seems to encourage me. This is so much better than my WW meetings ever were. :D

I was bad last night and had some macaroni salad - the really good kind with a ton of mayonaise in it. I didn't take a pill last night so I didn't have much to a problem today. I felt so guilty about having cheated but today I got back on track. Some people crave ice cream or candy, I crave macaroni salad!

Momscookingtofu 06-27-2007 08:00 PM

High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS)

This should be on the "general dieting" board but I post here since I started Alli and you all are great and intelligent people.

That said, a friend of mine hired a personal trainer to come to her home for 12 one-hour sessions. This PT will do whatever her client needs, be it weight training advice, cardio, fitness goals, nutrition advice or cooking services. I told my friend she should tell the PT to clean the house and she go out with the kids for a pizza! :D

Anyway, the PT wants my friend to make changes to her diet. One of her very strong issues was that my friend consumed too much High Fructose Corn Syrup which she said ultimately leads to weight gain. I had never heard that HFCS caused weight gain. I've done a little research on the internet for this and from what I've read that seems to be true. Does anyone here know more about this?

Shayz 06-27-2007 08:39 PM

Oh yeah, I have heard the stuff is nasty along with being loaded with calories and fat. If you ever want to be surprised, start looking at the ingredients in your food and see how frequently high fructose corn syrup is in them.

cuppajoe 06-27-2007 08:59 PM

Still out here. Sticking to the plan with my cardio and weights AND the alli eating plan. So far I have been peeing plenty, no TE's, and sorta constipated, no fatigue.

For dinner I had a huge salad and 1000 Island dressing but FORGOT my alli [I'm at work]. There's some 20gm of fat in that dressing! Wondering if I should take it when I get home??? That's 6 hours from dinner so I don't think I'll bother...

debalina--our meetings have breakfast food too--and I'm always sorry if I dive in. Try that Slimfast shake or a slice of hi-fiber toast with peanut butter and an apple before you get there.

And--I don't give a rat's rump what other people think. If this helps me get to my goal, I'm IN!

tweeteach 06-27-2007 11:26 PM

Hi, bought my starter pack and am starting the low fat diet now. I will start the pills on Saturday just in case I have TE.

champagn 06-27-2007 11:45 PM

I have a quick question. I am currently doing Weight Watchers Flex. Is this a good plan to do while using Alli? I want to try the pills, but want to be sure first. Also, are there jittery side effects involved with them?

tkt117 06-28-2007 12:17 AM

Hi Champagn... I am doing ww flex points and it is a really good plan to pair up with the alli. It doesn't give you any side effects other than the afore mentioned treatment effects if you excede your allowed fat grams.

Good Luck!

champagn 06-28-2007 12:18 AM

Thank you so much for your reply. I plan on starting them this weekend and I am very excited! I will let you all know how it goes : )

mommyto3 06-28-2007 06:47 AM

Today is the end of my first week on alli. I have lost just under 6 lbs! I am so excited because it has been nearly effortless. This week was an extra challenge for me because I've had to eat a catered lunch every day with very few (to no) options. I only have 2 more days of that so it will only get easier then!!

What I have loved is the freedom I have felt while on this. I haven't been counting points (although WW would definitely pair nicely with alli) and I haven't been consumed with thoughts of sugar. In the past (and I may have already posted this) I have had so much trouble staying on weight watcher's becuase of my 'addiction' to sugar. I used way to many of my daily points towards sugar and my weekly points getting me out of trouble because of my sugar consumption. That has not been an issue at all.

I have not felt deprived in any way this past week. If there was an event (like my nieces birthday party) where I knew that I would get in trouble or just plain chose to endulge (not overindulge!) then I just didn't take the pill. As long as it doesn't begin to happen more and more frequently, it should be okay. Fortunately I wasn't in a situation where I needed to eat out a lot this week. I've made a conscious effort to make sure that I didn't eat out until I get a good grip on what I can and can't eat. I've spent so many years learning the points of everything that I have no idea about fat grams alone!

I also want to emphasize that I (and most if not all of us on alli) do not expect this pill to do lose the weight for us. But...it sure does make it easier to consider my choices more carefully in order to make better decisions.

Congratulations to all who have done so well this past week!! It's going to take some time, but I know that we call ALL reach our goals. Thanks to alli, this is the first time that I've really felt that way in a very long time.

mezmerize 06-28-2007 08:06 AM

Thurdays my 4 day on Alli. I stepped on the scale and I'm back to my ticker weight!!! (4 lbs loss) I'm very happy! This tool has kept me honest! No just a tiny bite of this or that.
