Yes, LaDean, I was there but lots of people leave and never post again. They just get tired of it. Good that your scale is moving down. This is a bad time of year for weight gain. It starts right now for this household as it is deer season and the men are eating nonstop. Of course they're hunting and getting lots of exercise but not me ha! I can't be in the sun for health reasons but we do have an eliptical which is nice.

Wow, Carol - I am slacking in the brain. I just read your post and didn't bat an eye or think anything unusual about it until about 5 entire minutes later. Woah! Are there no female hunters?
(It's not like me to not catch things like that right away!)

No female hunters this yr. I have a 17 yr. old daughter still at home but she is not much for hunting. My 24yr. old daughter used to hunt but she is at her inlaws for the holiday and she has a baby now so don't think she would hunt anyway. But I have 6 sons and my FIL is here. Only 4 of the sons plus DH and FIL are hunting this year. One son brought his 2 yr. old daughter to keep me company. But, let me tell you, these hills are FULL of hunters so you stay indoors.

Happy Weekend, Intuitive Eaters! And "Welcome!" to all the new posters.

I just completed the first week of my 3-week vacation. I've re-roofed my chicken coop, and tomorrow I'm going to clean the garage. It's so nice to not be exhausted from work all the time. Eating has suffered a bit from the change in routine, though. Hopefully it will get better.

I hope everyone is doing well

Haven't been doing so well but i am not giving up. It has come to the point where failure isn't an option. I am just plain unhealthy and i feel horrible for only being 24 yrs old.

Hi Fiddler. Is it still pretty warm where you live? Can you garden all year long? My tomatoes aren't as good tasting after it starts to cool down. But I still have a few left that I picked rather green. They are now turning red.

CherryAutumn. I think this time of year it's hard to lose. Maybe it's the happy times in the past that relates eating with pleasant things. It starts here with deer season, like a said before. So much snacking. Good for you for keeping on.

LaDean. Glad you found us and post away. What kind of healthy things have you been fixing lately and what will you fix for Thankgiving? Do you take insulin? I take prednisone all the time and sure get hungry at times. Are you from Portland? My daughter lives there.

I'm especially hungry first thing in the morning. I even get nauseated and can't sleep. Sometimes I eat just a little or drink a little juice and that helps so I can go back to sleep for awhile.

Yes, it is still warm--has been 70's and 80's. We can pretty much garden all year.

Happy Thanksgiving Fiddler, LaDean, Mom2mollie, Obi, Jo, CherryAutumn, and anyone else I might have missed. Not sure I'm ready for this. I've not been feeling too well lately but hope to get through tomorrow by God's grace. I'm sure everyone especially DH will pitch in and help.

Something to think about.

LEAVE THE STUFFING FOR THE TURKEY:
TRY MINDFUL EATING INSTEAD

By Michelle May, M.D.

This holiday season, experience maximal pleasure from all
the wonderful food and special occasions. By eating
mindfully you'll eat less and enjoy it more. The key to
mindful eating is to notice the details. Pretend you're
writing an article about your Thanksgiving or other holiday
meal for a gourmet magazine. The following tips are from Am
I Hungry?® workshop six:

* Focus on the people you are sharing your meal. Engage in
interesting conversations. Ask questions and really listen
to your companions.

* Notice how hungry you are. If you aren't hungry, become
aware of the reasons you feel like eating anyway. If it is
for social reasons, then be social for awhile longer then
eat when you get hungry.

* Decide how you want to feel when you are done eating.
Stuffed and miserable? Or comfortable and content? Then
fill your plate or order accordingly.

* Mentally describe the table setting and the ambiance.
Notice the aromas, colors, textures and presentation of the
meal.

* Before eating, take a moment to be truly thankful about
where your food came from, including all the people who
invested their time, effort and talent to get it from farm
to plate.

* Choose food carefully by asking yourself what you want
and need. Don't waste your appetite on cranberry sauce
shaped like a can if you don't love it!

* Put one small bite in your mouth. You only have taste
buds on your tongue so the flavors of a large bite of food
are lost on your teeth, cheeks and the roof of your mouth.

* Notice the texture and flavors of the food on your tongue
then slowly begin to chew the food. Breathe while you chew
since flavors other than salty, sweet, bitter and sour
actually come from the aromas.

* Set your fork down between bites. If you begin to load
your next forkful your attention will be on the next bite,
not the one you are eating now. And if you are focused on
the next bite of food instead of the one you are eating
now, you won't stop eating until there are no more
forkfuls.

* Sit for a moment and let the flavors and experience
linger before you take the next bite.

* Notice as the food gently fills your stomach. Pause for
several minutes in the middle of eating to reconnect with
your hunger and fullness levels and enjoyment of the meal.

* Food is abundant this time of year (actually every time
of year for most of us!) Remind yourself that you can eat
more later or at another meal so there is no need to eat it
all now and ruin the experience by being too full.

Mindful eating is a great way to enjoy Thanksgiving and
other meals more while eating less. You'll be thankful that
you did!

In Health, Enjoy!

Happy Thanksgivng everyone! And there is a lot to be thankful for besides food!
I am feeling very unlike myself this morning, because I am normally not a traditional holiday celebrator, but on a whim I invited a couple of friends whom I haven't seen in a couple of years, who also don't do family stuff, over for Thanksgiving, hence, spent yesterday doing last-minute shopping for traditional Thanksgiving ingredients!! But I enjoy cooking, actually more than I enjoy eating, so it should work out fine. So there will be four of us altogether, and one person says he'll clean up the mess! Perfect for me. The only traditional TG thing I really like is dressing. I make mine with about 10 ingredients, kind of spicy, and including oysters. Also by the time I have cooked it all I don't have much of a desire to eat it. Very appropriate post by Michelle May, Carol! Cranberry sauce shaped like a can - HA!!! Funny. Does anyone really love it?
I hope everyone has a very lovely day!!!

No, I don't like the canned stuff but my SIL made some fresh with orange juice and it was really good. I'm with you, Jo, after all that cooking I can hardly eat. I think we had 18 for dinner. Today my daughter and SIL are painting my kitchen in exchange for me making her a dress. Better get busy.

It seems kind of lonely on here lately. I guess some may be out of town this weekend and not near a computer. I could use some encouragement to keep going. I know a certain weight is not important but i need to be Healthy. I want to be around while my little children grow up and to be a good example for them. I don't want them to have the same relationship i have with food.
