Carol--I unlike most people like to pick 1-2 sources and stick with it. My plan is to stick with Geneen Roth and mainly because I know she addresses binge eating and that is an issue for me.

CherryAutumn--The whole point of this entire website is support. You are supposed to come when you are doing well and when you are struggling. That's what we are here for.

Okay so I didn't do so well last night. Of course I know this binge eating will not be conquered overnight. I am doing well so far today. I ate breakfast around 8:30am. I ate strawberries and vanilla yogurt. I also had coffee with creamer. I ate 100 calorie chocolate bar for a snack. I just finished lunch which was a salad. I feel full so I should have stopped about 3/4 through. I am saving my grapes for later. So I will get there with intuitive eating. I've decided to not weigh myself again until March. I hope I can make it that long. I am so used to weighing everyday.

Hi everyone,
I was trying to wait for others to post again but I'm back. Still trying to get a handle on intuitive eating. Some days better than others but I am determined to get it down.

After 2 yr. of this you'd think I'd know better than to NOT check what page we're on!! I put a shortcut to the page and then when it gets to the next page I sometimes don't notice and think no one is posting! Ugh! So I've been here but not posting because I thought no one else was. Hope I can learn from this. I had a good day yesterday but a bad one the day before. On the bad day I ate a strawberry shortcake from Culvers for my lunch. Not that I consider any food good or bad but for some reason I didn't feel good the rest of the day. It might not have been the food but I associated it with the food. It did taste REALLY good but I couldn't finish it even though it was all I had for lunch. I usually try to get someone to share with me but sometimes they won't. Have a great day!!

Hi Everybody,

Sorry that I haven't been around either because I am having real problems with the "diet" thinking. The Food Police is always on my case and I'm having difficulty getting him out of my head. How in the world do you stop thinking "diet" when you have thought this way for soooooooooooo long. I am reading my IE book again. Never finished it because I fell back into dieting routine and bombed out. I've got to change my thinking and I think one place I have to start with the scale. That is going to be really hard. I do exactly what I read today in IE book. If I drop a lb, I think I've been a "good" girl and I gain a lb, I think I've been "bad". I think this is going to be more of a process than I thought. When I eat some thing I can't have on a diet, I think I've been really bad. I am going to start over tomorrow with the IE. I intend to eat only if and when I'm hungry and try to learn when I am satisfied, but NOT stuffed. I've got to get a handle on this. I am going to try not to weigh for at least week. That will be amazing if I can do that.

Hi LaDean and Patty. I read Jean Antonello's book Naturally Thin by Eating More amost 20 yr. ago and was really impressed. The only bad thing was she really wanted you to limit what she called pleasure foods (sweets) and borderline foods (fried foods, dense calorie foods, etc) and I think that's what kinds of threw me. Anyway, at that time, I talked to either Jean or a coworker and she said if you ate that way it might take 5 yr. to lose 50lb. Now I could kick myself that I didn't stick with it because it was as close to IE as I had come then. But 5 yr. seemed forever......it's really not. Gradually losing is sure a lot better than gaining.

I just read last night in IE book I have that chronic dieters have a tendency to stay away from the very foods that will keep them satieted such as a little fiber, complex carbs, some protein and a little bit of fat. I know I don't seem to be able to eat a lot of carbs either LaDean, but I thought about eating fruit myself. I think I like the idea of eating 6 mini meals rather than big meals. I don't cook a lot any more and it think when I get the hang of IE that I can do this with a little bit of cooking. Example, fruit with a little bit of cheese once a day. A piece of chicken with stif-fry doesn't take a lot of cooking especially with a microwave. A little bit of salad out of the pre-washed ready bags add some tuna or canned salmon and a little bit of mayo. Carol, I remember you have some neat quick salads, etc that I got from you. I really do think it will be easy once I get my thinking straightened out about it all.

Hope we all have a great day.

Hi everyone,
I am so happy to see people posting ! I'm a newbie. I need ya'll !
Well I am planning to buy Geneen Roth's first learning package today. I am struggling right now so I think it would be helpful.

Pattygirl--LOL at the food police being on your case. I haven't weighed since Feb 1st and I won't until March 1st. I'm doing okay because normally I am an everyday weigher.

Hi Carol and Likenooher,

I'm glad to see us posting here too. We all need each other. Especially since there are not many people who live this way of eating. We can help and learn from each other.

I think I did really well today. I didn't eat today until afternoon and then I ate only because I didn't want to get too hungry. I really was not all that hungry. The IE book I'm reading says they learned in their work with their patients that the hungrier you are when you eat the more you are likely to over eat. This is why they say smaller meals and snacks the better. I found that when I did eat that I didn't eat more than I needed. Later, I was not home when I got hungry and should have eaten again. When I finally I did get home and eat, I didn't really eat much and ate light and thought I only ate what satisfied me. However, it wasn't long after I finished that I realized that I had eaten too much because I felt full when the food settled. So it was a productive day of learning for me.

Hi everyone!

Welcome to all the new posters and thank you to the older ones (especially Carol) for sticking around and always being a source of inspiration for the rest of us.

My life is just as busy as always. I've been trying to fit in more "me" time though. I'm working on a sewing project and a knitting project. It has been a long time since I have sewed any clothes for myself, and I'm really enjoying getting back into it.

I started going to a different Curves today. I was becoming more and more dissatisfied with the one I started at for several reasons. When I started, they mostly had the same lady working there every time I came. She was very motivating and also it helped to have the same person taking my measurements all the time because it was consistent. Now they have a whole bunch of part time workers that they just cycle through, and all of them take the measurements differently, which makes them more or less useless for determining progress. Also, the machines needed adjustment and I was beginning to feel like I wasn't getting an adequate workout. The Curves I went to today had much more resistence on their machines and the lady working there was nice, so I plan to go a few more times and then maybe transfer my membership.

I don't usually watch "Oprah," but I made it a point to record yesterday's episode. The show was about how clutter in your house can make you fat. That sure happened to me! When my ex-boyfriend moved in my whole house filled up with useless clutter and I blew up like a balloon. It was such a relief after he was gone to not have all that junk lying around (especially in the kitchen where it deterred me from cooking real food). Hopefully he is now doing the same thing to his new wife

I want you guys to know that even though I don't get the chance to post here very often any more, you are always an inspiration to me. All of you. Even when you think you have nothing positive to say. So thanks for letting me drop in now and then!

Thanks, Obi for the kind words. I've been eating pretty well at least I'm not overeating and the weight recently lost is staying off. Hope it continues when we're gone.(We'll be in Portland with DD next week, Lord willing) Just wondering, does any one eat quite a small amount each day? I'm wondering if cutting way back on amounts helps or do you finally even out and not lose? Quite a learning process. Sometimes I'm surprised at the things I don't want. Last night we went out to eat with our son and DIL and my DH whose really been doing good lately ordred the 4 piece broasted chicken and an appetizer of onion rings. They were so big I could only eat one and my DH and son had to finish them. My son and DIL have been going to WW and my DIL has lost 32 lb.....son has lost 15. They are normally big eaters as they are both 6 ft tall. Then a loaf of bread came but it was dry an unappealing so I didn't eat that. I had a half a cup of soup and small salad, 3 shrimp and baked potato. It was very good. Guess I'm getting picky. I hope so!!!

Default Another Newbie to the group

Not so new to IE. but like most things, it's more fun together

I'm going to go back and read the whoooole thread - but is there a shortcut I can bookmark that will just take me back to the end of the thread?

Looking forward to getting to know you all.

llavender--There are 3 dots next to the title of the thread. Click that and it should take you to the last page of the thread since the last time you posted. Now if you came to 3FC and didn't post to this thread it may not be the last page but really close to it.

I ordered the Geneen Roth package but it said 4-6 weeks. If I knew it was going to take that long I would have ordered it earlier. I think I may get the main IE book. I just don't want to get confused because I know Geneen talks about binge eating, which is an issue for me, and intuitive eating. But I guess to get the main idea from the IE and then read Geneen may help me. I will look on Amazon today.

I did pretty good yesterday. I grazed through out the day so I wasn't hungry until about 9pm and then I ate a turkey sausage.
