Mct (coconut) can help with ketosis, definitely won't hurt only glucose can stop ketosis (excess protein and to many carbs). Some research has shown the body to be able to have both ketones and glucose in the body at same time primarily with dementia patients. As a therapeutic treatment for them. Mct convert to ketones directly in liver, other oils don't do that. The are good for quick energy bump or other keto bonking issues. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1245892
Here a decent post on coconut (mct) oils and benifits with keto. http://ketodietapp.com/Blog/post/201...l-in-your-diet
According to my labels 1 tbsp of olive oil is 120 cals, coconut has has 130 per tbsp. Not that much calorie different. Assuming 2 tbsp daily is taken the increase of 20 calories likely exist naturally within food variations with the diet program anyways. Seems pretty insignificant to me.

Reason: grammar and deeper explanations
It's interesting that you should add the Kerrygold Irish butter, wylothar. I use that on my salmon, on pancakes and it hasn't held my loss back at all. I have a simple rule - keep the portion small and don't do it every day.
I am also a massive fan of organic virgin coconut oil - but never considered using it instead of EVOO. Good point, thanks for the information updates!
My Quest BBQ chops arrived yesterday. They are good. This will definitely help me during my work day. I'm in outside sales, so a lot of time in the car...these should keep me away from fast food :-)
Hi all. I thought this might be the best spot to post this. I know many of you order from Nashua. If you use Healthwise/Healthsmart products some of them are slightly cheaper on FamilyBariatric.com and there is free shipping with a $70 order. I just ordered from them today.
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but are Sparkling ICE drinks acceptable on the plan? I really like these. If not, suggested substitutes.

It's about a dollar cheaper than the Nashua Nutrition website, I've never ordered from Diet Direct so I'm not sure what their shipping costs look like. Nashua is $5.95 flat rate shipping for orders up to $99, free after that.

Depends what they are sweetened with - if it's Splenda (Sucralose) or Stevia then it's fine. IF it's aspartame it's not.
Beware of drinking too many of these - the sodium count is nearly always very high, and that will lead you to retain water.
Suitable substitutes - herbal teas, plain water with a slice of lime/lemon/sprig of mint/sprig of lemongrass, zevia sodas (in moderation), water additives (in moderation)
I'm not normally a sweetened drink person, but occasionally I like something other than water so I tried some sparkling seltzer water with a few drops of a flavored water enhancer. I think most grocery stores carry different brands with many different flavors. Again, be careful to make sure it isn't sweetened with aspartame and don't drink too much as seltzer water has some sodium so could possibly cause some fluid retention.

The ICE brand is made with sucralose, so it's fine, but I limit these to 1 a week because I think they make me bloat (sodium and carbonation).
I bought some quest bars to supplement my IP products. I'm not sure if I messed up and bought the wrong thing...I bought the new S'more bars because they said that they had 4g net carbs. Well after eating one I have realized that they should be restricted because of calorie content for sure, but I'm also thinking because of carbs. They have 23g carbs, 13g fiber, 1g sugars, and 6g erythritol (not even sure what that is!). I wanted a bar that I could use as unrestricted... I guess I will keep some of these around for emergencies and give the rest to my daughter. Thoughts?

Unrestricted bars are kind of unicorns....there's a reason they are restricted!!!
Several of the Quest bars fall under the right carb count for unrestricted items (because you deduct the plant fibers and half the sugar alcohols from total carbs), but all of them are within the calorie range of restricted items.
So in essence, they won't throw you out of ketosis (which is dictated by your carb intake), but they COULD slow you a little in losses (because your calorie deficit won't be as big if you eat a higher number of calories) if you treat them as unrestricted.

So, this particular Quest bar is more than 30% calories from fat (closer to 40). Personally, I'm saving it for maintenance but you could probably use it as a Super-restricted (one per week)
The only two that I know of that COULD be used as an unrestricted (in a pinch) are the strawberry cheesecake and the chocolate peanut butter flavors. They're lowest in cals/carb/fat of any of the Quest bars. I still count them as restricted but not everyone does.
FYI: Erythritol is a sugar alcohol. There are various ones & they each affect blood sugar differently.
