The place where I purchased IP uses the term "coach" quite loosely. In other words, I received no formal training- After they sealed the deal with the sale, I was given a bag of food, some pamphlets, and sent on my way. Not even measurements were taken. Also, they mentioned they were out of the vitamins but I would be fine. After reading many posts I see that the vitamins are essential and the lack of them could be causing the headaches and light-headed feeling I have been experiencing since starting on Monday. I currently take a multi in the AM and PM. I also had some Cal-Mag at home so I started that yesterday. What is the dosage of Potassium, and does anyone have an alternative supplement they use for the IP potassium? What about the optional supplements, any input on those?
Any info will be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!!!
Hi, UD, IP's potassium contains about 400 mg of potassium and 200 of calcium. I really haven't found anything comparable. Lindora has potassium that has 100 mg per pill so you'd have to take 4 of them. Plus it doesn't have any calcium in it. The good thing is you can order the IP version from OurHealthCoop.com for just 2 or 3 dollars more than buying it direct from IP. And since IP usually has minimum orders and you have to go through a coach, OurHealthCoop is probably your best bet. I buy all my supplements through them. When buying the IP potassium, just key in Ideal Protein potassium/calcium and it should come up. You just take 1 pill at breakfast. If you start getting leg cramps, you're supposed to take 2 of them for three days. The other supplements I buy are OurHealthCoop's own brand: multi-vites without iron, liquid calcium/magnesium, and fish oil 1000 mg. They are high quality and much cheaper than IP's.

Take an extra IP potassium pill for three days. If it causes you to get diarrhea, take 1 1/2 instead of 2.

My coach measures the base of the neck, the chest, the waist around the belly button, the hips at the apex of the thighs, and the right thigh 3 inches below your crotch. I would say yes to adding all the lost inches for a total.
I am in week two and I have noticed I forget what I was going to do and my memory just isn't as sharp. Has anybody else noticed this? If so, is there any suggestions on what might help?
for some reason I am not bored yet cause I keep switching it up. Like last week I had a lot of ready made drinks and this week I got the yogurt thingy. The shaking motion has become redundant though, sometimes I wish music would play as I shake my drink in my shaker
yeab, sure thing re doc tomorrow.
we are getting upgraded to vista tonight....eeek... so heading home and praying to lovely universe that goes well.
i kind of like the shaking, i do it so much it's almost a workout, the clumps make me gag..

I had my second weigh in today and I was down two lbs. My scale said I was down four. I did drink 24oz. of water a few hours before so I wonder if that had something to do with it. I think this was brought up in the last thread but I couldn't find it.......How much water do you drink before weighing in? Also when I first went in a few weeks ago the scale would not measure my body fat You had to be under 60%. I was 59% today so wooohooo I also started walking 2.5 miles and I feel great. I am so excited for my next weigh in. I can't believe I have had NO fast food, candy, or pop in two weeks. :

Sheila
thank you! i alway weigh in before drinking anything and after going to the restroom but i work at my coach's office so it may be easier. maybe try and schedule your appts first thing in the morning. if not just stick to the same time and same water amount every WI to get an accurate account of your loss. congrats on making it below 60%!!

i measure my chest at the fullest part of my breasts, my waist at the smallest section(right under ribs) my hips at the widest, my arms about 4 inches up from my elbow and my thighs about 8 inches up. hope that helps! btw, what part of tx are you in?

i've heard many people on here ask about this and from what i remember is that you may not be getting enough fats. try adding an additional tsp of oil to your daily amount and see if that helps.
on another note, i am SO EXCITED about SATC 2 coming out this weekend!! dragging the hubby to it for sure for a date night
did i also ever mention how much I LOVE the vanilla peanut bars? WOW, wish those were unrestriced....
Hi Erin, thanks for the info.
I hope you read this since I don't know how to attach quotes except by cutting and pasting.
I live in Houston.
I just noticed how much fat Atkins shakes have 10 grams. The proteing powder I bought from Costco has 26 gm of protein and 2 grams of fat and I think 3 gm of carb and it tastes ok. I went on Lindora and ordered some items already, will report back on the taste when I receive them.
yes i use it all the time you just have to make sure you watch the temp they cook faster then normal waffles........and i have used a little less water then it states but it is great.....big, filling and with the syrup and waldens peanut butter it is a great breakfast
Even though I sprayed the waffleiron with Pam, the first time I tried it - the batter stuck. I read a post that someone adds an egg white to the batter, so I tried it and it came out pretty good.
I usually make the pancakes or crepes at night, but I only make one (1/2 a package), then I spread 1/4 of a pudding on it or WF peanut butter or WF marshmellow sauce, roll it up, and pour WF apple butter or raspberry or apricot jelly on top (I melt them in the microwave first).
You have to make sure your scale is the same as your coache's. One day when you weigh in at their office, come home and weigh yourself without going to bathroom or drinking water. Figure out what the differnce is and keep that always in mind. 24 OZ of water would be 1.5 lbs of weight. Also, don't forget to weigh with the same clothes at home and the office. Obviously do this only once to get an idea.
Question for everyone: Why can't you have a diet pop once in a while? What happens if I do?

Congrats on the 59%! A pint of water (2 cups) weighs a pound. But not drinking water would be a bad idea :0 Just try to keep it consistent from week to week, and it all evens out.

Hello everyone and showgirlaz,
Does anyone know what areas of body the coaches measure? If I am doing this on my own, how do I do it? When you say 3 inches down, do you add what you lost from bust, ... other area?
Question for everyone: Why can't you have a diet pop once in a while? What happens if I do?
My coach measures: neck, upper arm at bicep, chest (across fullest part of bust), natural waist at belly button, low abs across the hip bones, hips across pubic bone, thigh about 3 inches down leg from groin (the fullest part), for me he also measures my low leg/calves, and my wrist. I have lost weight in my feet, hands, ankles, wrists, forearms, all up my legs, my ribcage, my shoulders. SO, since you are doing it at home, feel free to go overboard measure a lot of places to start, regularly watch the coaching areas but once a month, check the other areas. YOU WILL BE AMAZED at the places you lose when you think nothing happened during a week!
Wait a while to add the pop. As several ladies on here will tell you... it is likely NOTHING will happen if you have the diet drink in moderation. The concerns with the diet drink are: usually made with lots of chemicals, has citric acid that pulls some people from ketosis, often made with something other than sucralose (splenda) or stevia. Keep in mind that caffeine and some sugar alcohols can pull you out of ketosis too in the case of some people SO, it may be a "test the waters" and see how YOU respond. I would stick with something that has no citric acid like hansens or diet dr pepper if you can. Also, look for a splenda based or a stevia based soda if soda is something you refuse to live without.
The facts are, the more closely you live this diet to the written protocol the faster you lose. ALSO, if you stay in ketosis, keep a low calorie, low fat program, you will also lose. Some people have to decide just how fast they want to lose, how much enjoyment they still want to have, and how much they are willing to give up & of what to get there.

extract has ALCOHOL??? in it - I said I read the label and there is nothing in - so now I'm wondering i that has something to do w/ my headaches and not a larger weight loss??
You could be losing salt and she might be right. HOWEVER, it could be you are low in magnesium.. especially possible if you have cramps and constipation. Symptoms of magnesium deficiency can include leg cramps, migraines, fatigue, loss of appetite, depression, nausea and vomiting or high blood pressure. Also, magnesium has to be taken in a direct ratio to calcium to get the best benefit of both. So, if you are getting more calcium that magnesium by ratio you can still have symptoms. I would say continue to increase your magnesium and add a little more salt.
Not sure about the alcohols in the extracts. I know that 1 oz is about 1 carb in a natural extract but NOT in flavorings or imitations. I don't think it would be an impact unless you are using a lot or very carb sensitive.

YES! You need vitamins! I like the source naturals and JIGSAW product lines. Source Naturals a great enzyme, an amazing women's LIFE FORCE multivitamin (it is equal to and actually better than IP), they have a great calcium(chelated) but you need to take 6 tablets a day (2 tabs 3x), a very good magnesium, and a potassium too. Jigsaw carries everything as well. Both are lines of VERY high quality vitamins. I put links below for you too check out.
In addition to the above , (which are plenty for most people) there are the added supplements the clinics offer. I know most offer enzymes, probiotics, anti oxidants, trace minerals, omega oils, and salt. These are only essential if you have digestive issues or signs of trace mineral deficiencies. You probably are fine with just the omegas and salt.
Anyway, I think, if you were healthy going into this, or don't have any real issues, start with the calcium, potassium, magnesium, omega oil and salt. You can add the enzymes or probiotics or other stuff as you go IF it is needed.
Basics of the IP products you need:
Calcium/magnesiumOTAL VALUES - 4 tabs: vit D3(cholecalciferol) 260mg, Calcium(as calcium citrate) 600mg, Magnesium( citrate) 300mg, zinc (citrate) 20mg
Multivitamin: the multi I have linked below is for Source Naturals Life Force WOMEN's multi without iron. It is an almost identical match to the IP multi is is actually BETTER especially in biotin, choline, and inositol. The only thing it is missing is 100mcg of VANADIUM. Vanadium is an essential trace minerals that supports bones, glucose management, energy, and controls cravings. You only need a little. The link below is a combination of chromium/vanadium. It is more than we get but WELL below the RDA and any toxicity guidelines (toxic is in excess of 40mg a day).
I am in week two and I have noticed I forget what I was going to do and my memory just isn't as sharp. Has anybody else noticed this? If so, is there any suggestions on what might help?
It can be that you need more magnesium, that you are entering into a greater ketosis and your body is adjusting to the brain fog, it could be you are low on salt if it is accompanied by headache and/or fatigue, or it could be a hormone called leptin starting to come into play. Drink more fluids, drink a cup or two of green tea (it helps with removing toxins like occur with leptin), up your salt a little, or added magnesium citrate. It is very common when you are in ketosis to have brain fog while your brain makes the shift from burning sugars for brain food to burning ketones.

:) you are correct! The drinks are the highest fat of the unrestricted items allowed in phase 1. If someone is at the stage they are allowed the restricted items then the information would be too restricted. The spaghetti and chili are about 4g of fat. The bars range from 3.5g to 6g of fat and, the chips and soy puffs range from 4g to 7g of fat.
That being the case, the fat per day could be an additional 3g per day higher if you ate a caramel nut bar or soy puff every day. So the highest day would be somewhere in the 51g area however the lowest amount per day would remain unchanged.
Just a reminder to [COLOR="Red"
TXrealtor[/COLOR] in the first 3 weeks NO RESTRICTED products are used. In fact, because of some people abusing the restricted products and some coach's having bad experiences once restricted are added there are several clinics that do not allow ANY restricted products until you are past 90% of your weight loss goal.
ALSO, I was advised that under new IP clinic guidelines (for clinics that are following the new protocols) BARS and Soy snacks are now treated similarly to the chili and spaghetti and should not be had more than 2x per week. Anyone else heard that? Not that it matters to me, I am months away from being allowed to order or eat any!
Be careful with gum. There are several brands of trident and, if you use it, look for the one that is XYLITOL only. You could also use spry gum. Mints would have to be xylitol only. UNLESS you can find a product that is sweetened with stevia, rebiana (chemical form of stevia) or sucralose.
When you read the ingredients list, watch for any MALTITOL, MALTODEXTRIN. These are common sugar alcohols that add a lot of sweetness and don't have to be listed as a carb BUT, the have a glycemic impact (load and index) the same as straight table sugar and can cause you to go out of ketosis.
.
It's interesting how place to place have different standards. Our coach encouraged us to try evreything and it was ok to have bars/chilli and so on in our first week. When we picked up our food on Tuesday, I mentioned that the new guildlines I read said NO resticted foods. Our coach said "I understand your idea but the first few weeks your body is still adjusting" After reading all the advice,I am going to steer clear of the restricted items for now. For me, I am looking at the drinks (premade) for breakfast and lunch ,and puddings and other drinks (ice cold pina colada) for snack.

Congrats on the loss!!! There are hidden sugars everywhere! Fat Free ham.. yeah, has corn syrup.. We found a small lowfat cooked ham that doesn't have any added sugar, now to just keep it lean..

Congrats on the loss want2 run!
Just want to say thank you for the veggie advice, I wondered if we were getting too much at dinner. I will measure the frozen veggies (all veggies)before they are cooked.
Have a wonderful evening and a good morning to all!
I started the IP Challenge May 19th and as of May 25th I lost 8lbs in my WI. I am still skeptical tho-as at times I am either super hungry or not hungry at all. I also have an 8 month old little girl whom I adore, but I find at times I am soooo tired and counting down the minutes to my next meal that I don't have energy for her or for anything else?!
I know in my heart that I am doing a good thing for myself and my family since I do want to be healthy and I will soon be chasing my daughter Celia around and I will certainly need the weight off.
I sometimes feel that I am being selfish to be on this IP diet? I just don't want to waste my time and money on another fad diet?
I am also getting tired of 4 cups of veggies everyday! I love veggies and trying new things but I FEEL SOOO LIMITED IN MY CHOICES! Any ideas? Admittingly I am also at times missing my potatoes, rice and plantain! I am sure tho that is what got me in trouble in the first place! I also have a latin family, we do a lot of Colombian cuisine...I find myself cooking all these bad foods for my husband and then cooking another completely and seperate meal for myself. I NEED balance and HELP HELP!
I am so discouraged right now and wondering how to keep food balance in the chaos? Any ideas or opinions feel free...
