Turbo Jammers,

When you began TJ, did you feel "the burn" in your abs while doing the Elite 11 moves? Tonight was my first night doing TJ and I want to make sure that I'm not doing the moves incorrectly. Did you immediately feel the burn or did it build up as you got more acquainted with TJ?

RachelleS 07-24-2006 11:37 PM

To be honest, I've been doing TJ since last September and I've probably have only felt the abs twice the next day. I do feel it sometimes while I'm doing it. BUT I have a huge stomach - that is where most of my fat is and it is one big stomach (not a bunch of rolls). If someone looked at it, it would look like a pregnant tummy and I that that has a lot to do with it. I could be wrong but that is my thoughts. It took me awhile to get the tuck down and sometimes it's hard to know if I'm doing it because of the big tummy. I just have to remember to keep tilting my pelvis.

Thanks Rachelle! My stomach is layered with fat also. I was wondering if I was doing it incorrectly. I *think* I have the tuck together and try to squeeeeeeeeeeeeze when I think about it, but I don't feel like I've been doing crunches. Maybe I will add some actual crunches to my routine, just in case! :D

I have just started TJ and I feel it more in my back right now.... Keep in mind I had a severe back injury awhile back and now my back muscles are very week. What I am feeling in my back is the sore muscle thing not the "OH My God - I have messed up my back again" thing...

Also with having my hysterectomy as a c-section that was my 3rd c-section and I am now numbed from my belly button to my c-section scar so maybe that is why I dont feel it there.

I think you will feel it where you are weakest 1st then as those strengthen up you will start feeling it elsewhere...

Someone with more experience may be able to chime in also with more info than me.

Good Luck and Just keep plucking away at it.

I have a big belly too (I'm about 233 right now), but I can really see the definition in my 'waist,' especially in the dress I'm wearing today. So even if you can't feel the burn, if you're doing the moves correctly, you'll probably on the right track. When I'm slopy about watching my form and remembering the tuck, I can fell it in the small of my back, so I know that it's important to pay attention and not just start flinging myself around!

Glad I found this thread. I began doing TJ a few months ago, and I really like the Cardio Jam. I do it once or twice a week, mixing it up with straight cardio, a circuit training video and now and then a yoga or Pilates routine. Soon I'll start learning the Sculpt routine. In theory I do cardio at five times a week, and weights and toning three times a week. Besides the videos, I walk when it's not too hot, and I go to Curves 2-3 times a week. Variety is sometimes the only way that I stay motivated over the long haul; I have to keep reminding myself that I have options, so it's harder to talk myself out of exercise!

How often do others here to TJ, and do you follow this program, or do you mix in other work?

I'm currently jammin' 6 - 7 days a week. I'm following the Advanced rotation...now on Week 3. I'm still seeing changes in my body and my strength/balance have improved immensely. I will begin incorporating BodyFlex into my daily workouts next week (and hopefully Slim in 6 if I can find my DVD). I'm still ever so excited about TJ (even heard there are new workouts on the horizon, including a ball workout :sssh: ), but I think it'll be good for my metabolism just to mix it up a bit.

I'm very seldom really sore in my abs, but I know that it's working...somehow. This big gut of mine is SHRINKING...finally, after all these years.

I measure myself every month and I added it all up from when I started in September 2005 - I've lost a total of 20 pounds and 15.5"!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So that means I only have 25 pounds to go to get to where I think I want to be (145 although the number doesn't matter to me as much as how I feel - so if I'm toned which I should be thanks to TJ and the number is 150, I'll still be happy.) Holy Cow it sounds nice saying I have 25 pounds to lose rather the 40 - now it seems attainable since the tape measure and scale number is moving. But this has been a long journey - over three years of trying.

SOOOOO - DO NOT GIVE UP - NO MATTER WHAT!!!! I know the frustration I felt since October 2003. The most I ever lost was six pounds but I'd gain it back. Things didn't start happening until after Christmas with Turbo Jam either even though I started the workouts in September. I know there were many times I asked myself why I was doing it - why bother but then I would think that it had to be helping someway that I couldn't see - whether it was keeping my blood pressure low or my heart healthy, that the exercising had to be doing something and I had to keep in mind that exercise has always kept me sane. My kids grew up knowing it was Mommy's exercise time and you had better leave her alone :). It was MY time and everyone needs that - it made me a better mom and wife and person.

Sorry so long winded. I just want those that are struggling - or wondering why am I doing this to please know that you are doing it for YOU and even if you don't see it on the outside yet, it really is healing you on the inside. And once you start there, it will move to the outside too.

I'm still in shock myself. It doesn't seem real. I know I have a ways to go but at least I feel like I'm getting there instead of feeling like I'm spinning a wheel and never getting off.

Rachelle

Rachelle, congratulations! You should be very proud. Your advice was timely--I've lost 'only' 20 lbs in the last 18 months, and at 235, I have a long way to go to get down to a healthy weight. I have a hard time getting out of the 230's....I go to the Success threads sometimes to remind myself not to throw in the towel. And new challenges, like Jamming, keep me in the game.

bbobsgrl--I'm glad to meet someone who likes variety, too! If I just did WATP or something everyday, I couldn't stand it. In a few weeks, after this next round of traveling, I'll focus on learning the other Jams.

Burning abs

Redifinition (btw, love your screen name)
I have been doing TJ for a solid weight weeks, okay, well I had pneumonia for a couple of weeks a few weeks ago that prevented me from doing the videos, but have been very faithful with them ever since, somedays I even do two videos. Anyway, I 've never really felt the burn in my actual abs, but I have felt them in my obliques, especially when doing the wheel, or this one move similiar to the wheel in the punch, kick, and jam video, totally felt that! If you follow her advice when you are doing the leg lifts, you know when you pull your leg up to your chest, she says to bring your hip to your ribs, yoiu can really feel it. Just this weekend I have finally noticed a big difference in my abs, I finally feel smaller. Keep it up and you will definitely feel and see a difference. Turbo Jam rocks!

Second workout, Still uncoordinated. Did the cardio workout- almost finished the whole 20 minutes. I think tomorrow, I'll try the sculpt

ev855 08-03-2006 11:51 AM

I loved the sculpt, but had hard time with the floor work. I need to have a pillow under my neck when I do.

I can't understand one thing tho... I worked out, watched what I ate - maximum of 1400 on beachbody, 22 points on WW [which by my calculations is 1100 calories (50 cal/pt) or 1320 calories (60 cals/pt)] and I gained weight!?!

Has anyone had that happen?
