Hi, I'll join you! My goal is to walk at *least* fifteen minutes a day on the treadmill and to continue walking my dog in the evenings. I hope everyone is doing well!

Default Walking

Hi Everyone- I would like to join your thread. I started walking about 5 yrs ago to lose wt and get my colesterol down. I am a life time member of WW. I lost 57 lbs. I walk 18-21 miles a week. I would like to do more but that is about all I can do. From the sounds of things I would guess I would be about the oldest of your group. I am 68 yrs young.I need to lose at least another 10-15 lbs more but have not been able for the past 3 yrs. I seem to only be able to maintain 152-154.
I know for girls working and having a family to take care of it is very hard to do what you need to for yourself. I have been there too. Now I only have myself and my hubby and that is quiet enough. We all do the best we can . For Our health we should make time one hour a day.
I have gotten a lot of help from this site. I thank everyone for such good advice.
Hope everyone enjoyed Fathers Day. Bye Joanne

Hi everyone
I am going to walk on the treadmil before I go to bed.I know you aren't suppose to exercise before you go to bed but that seems to be when I have the most energy.
Joanne I would do anything to be 150.Great job.I am at 220 now.
I hope everyone has a great day tomorrow.
I walked ahalf a mile.I plan to walk more in the morning.

Default Hello

Michaela- Three years ago I was 212 lbs. It took me a year to get down. I just put on"blinders" so to speak and didn't let anything get in the way. I gave up many things(going out to eat, all snacks, fed them to the birds, ) I cooked different meals for my self tried not to go anywhere that I would be tempted. I could only walk a half mile to start but daily increased that distance and time to at the end I am able to do 3-4 miles and still not be too tired.I still feel that I need to do more and to lose more. The large person I was is still there. The fear of gaining it all back is still there. I think , that is what keeps me trying. You can do it too.Make your walk as injoyable as you can . Wear a radio or cd player with you favorite music that has a lot of energy. You will soon find yourself walking to the beat. Put dieting out of your mind and just say that it is a new way of life that is going to make yourself healthy. You are important. I use a treadmill too but I love going out to walk. I live on the Gulf coast so I walk to the beach most evenings after supper and that takes me an hour and gives me 3 and half miles with ease. Bye for now,Joanne

Joanne, walking on the beach sounds nice. I lived Ft. Myers for almost twenty years before coming to Canada. I went Sanibel often and would stroll along the shore for sometimes three hours at a time. It's so relaxing that time just flies. That's the one thing about Florida I miss more than anything else.

I've been doing alright with my walking. My husband and I make a point of taking our dog out to a park as often as we can. I didn't get any walking in yesterday but will make up for it today.

Hope everyone has a great week!

I have found that when I walk outside I walk farther and longer than I do on a tread mill.

Michaela, I also walk longer and further outside. However, the treadmill gives me a better cardio workout - probably because that's what I tend to focus on when I'm using it. Of the two, I think walking outside is more enjoyable. I tend to use the treadmill more in the winter when the weather is dreary.

Hi Michaela! We live in the city so we drive out to our parks then walk. The park we take our dog to most often is a ten minutes from our home. We like it there because our dog can go off leash. We go out there 3-4 times a week. My favorite place to walk is a 45 minute drive from our home. When we go out there we can easily spend two or three hours following the stream. Then there's the little jaunts around the neighborhood everyday. I was using the treadmill everyday over the winter. I've slacked off since then. Now my goal is to continue with my outdoor walking and also get back to walking a minimum of 15 minutes a day on the treadmill.

Just finished my walk. I live in the city,so we have blocks. Great for walking!! At first I was avoiding the streets with hills, but can manage them well now. I had been walking 1.6 miles but, now I'm finishing it in about 20 minutes. In order to get 3 points (WW) I have to walk at least 35 minutes. So now I zig zag inbetween all the blocks. Yesterday found 49 cents!! Tonights walk was 1 quarter and 11 pennies!! I know I should just enjoy the walk...but if people are going to drop their change, the least I can do is pick it up for them. I'm putting all the change I find into a jar...I think when there is enough, I'll buy myself something just for me!! Besides the weight loss, it's a good incentive!!! First thing I when I arrive home from a walk...."How much money did you find?"
Have a good night to all

Smile joining the club

I just started dieting and walking. I am hoping to walk 4 out of 7 days a week to start. I don't know the distance yet, so I am tracking it by time. Tonight I did 30 min which was good for me because I haven't walked like that in awhile. I would like to get a pedometer to measure my distance but my clock time will have to do for the time being. Well, I am hoping to go another 30 min tomorrow, I just hope the weather stays nice.

Good luck to all!

I would like to join your walking group. I just started summer vacation and I am just starting to go on walks. Today I did 15 minutes on the treadmill - I was pretty sore by the end of it. Last summer I was jogging for 2 miles almost every day - but I had knee surgery this winter and am just getting back into exercising. I have only walked down my road once or twice since February. I want to walk 2 miles in the morning down to my grandma's house and back with the dogs.

Good Morning All
Suppose to hit 95 today!! Walked this morning instead. Today was a five penny day!! (gotta love those neighbors) They want me to walk every day...so they just throw money at me. Maybe I should ask them to toss dollars!! Tomorrow is suppose to rain! Does anyone else feel bad when they can't walk? I try to walk twice aday. I will try tonight, after 7pm, if the temp has dropped. Though I don't really mind walking in the heat, I just take a shorter walk...hate to sweat!! I'm trying to lose another ten pounds before surgery in July, as I don't think I'll be walking for acouple of weeks after that.
I envy those of you that use the treadmill. I can't. I tried, even bought a airmill...kinda of a stepper thing. Would do about 5 minutes and get off. I'll walk 45 minutes regular..but can't handle the inside stuff. I've even tried watching tv with it!! Since I started walking after the snow...but it was still cold 32 degrees. I guess I'll continue with that....If we get tons of snow in the winter...I guess I can walk in the streets. I'll worry about that when the time comes.
Good walking to all

I am so proud of myself. I left my house at 5:30 am and walked down to my grandmas (where I stopped for 2 cups of coffee and a bowl of oatmeal) and then walked back. It is about a mile each way down a country road. I took my dogs with me, the cottonwood leaves were shimmering in the sunrise, I saw a doe with twins behind her, a cow mood at me -- it was wonderful. And I even worked up a bit of a sweat. The knee did OK -- I can't wait until the pain goes away totally. I want to run really bad, but walking is all that is going to happen for awhile.

My PT said my doc might give me permission to start riding a bike this month. I can't wait!
