  • so i have cut out the soda (other then that all i ever drank was water so nothing else to cut out) - taking 1/2 an excedrin when ever i feel a caffeine headache going on so hopefully after a week i should be down to only needing only one half of an excedrin per day - not sure how long it will take after that to ween completly to not needing it at all but surely gonna try
i cant go cold turkey from the caffeine - i have 2 kids and my website to run so i cant be sick from caffeine which yes it makes me extremely ill so this is my alternative

now another problem i got is i am a late night snacker
seriously i eat wayy to much after 9pm --- anyone got any tips on curbing that ???
  • bnorris - Drinking tea can help relieve the caffeine headaches as well

As for curbing late night hunger, I'd also suggest drinking tea. Mint or green tea can help curb the hunger. A lot of people also brush their teeth to signify that they are done eating for the night.
  • wanted to also mention something else for those of you who are talking abotu the price and calories

i definantly suggest go to cvs or walmart and grab a couple of bars to make sure you can eat them or will eat them this way your only spending a couple of dollars
then after you got a green light there
while its pricey to order them online it really is a good deal to buy the 3 month supply or if you can get that $25 box from gnc that is a good deal also cause your only spending barely over a dollar for each bar

Now moving on from there look at what you normally spend
for me I buy at least 1 2 liter of pepsi per day usually 1.50 not to mention when i would get that i would also end up buying a snack probally like $1-$3 depending on what snack I get so your talking very minimum I am spending $2.50 per day on pepsi and snack and how many calories is in that you ask
well my 2 liter of soda has somewhere around 837 calories based on 8 ounces is 100 calories and about 67 ounces in a 2 liter - lets say my bag of doritos the smaller size bag has about 250 calories so thats 1100 calories right there

Now $2.66 which is my cost for 2 fullbars only gives me 360 calories plus makes me fuller so I eat less at those 2 meals thus even lowering my calorie intake more

    So in comparison
$2.50-$4 - for my pepsi 2 liter and bag of chips at 1100 calories
    or
$2.66 - for 2 fullars at 360 calories plus decrease in calories eaten for 2 meals

Now this comparison is just for the one thing i know for a fact I do each and every day this is not including the fact that we were going out to eat several times a week so I won't be doing that either so thats even bigger savings in my pocket

Now for my hubby same thing for the full bars but normally at lunch he would stop at gas station grab something to eat and a drink so he would easily spend $6-$9 per day there so $2.66 which covers 2 meals is definantly a savings because now he just brings a sandwich cause he knows he wont finish it all so we are saving money there as well

So the cost of the fullbars really is not an issue right now because its saving me money overall

Now to quit that late night snacking - They should make something like a little low cal pop it in your mouth snack to have that fills you up so u can have it at times like at night for people like me ---- Think it would hurt if I ate a 3rd full bar at night time if I got those night cravings???
  • bnorris - I was really trying to point out that there are other options other than eating a full bar. If you look at the calories of a full bar, it is definitely possible to find something just as filling for the same amount of calories. If it works for you, that is good. It wouldn't work for me though because it would take too many calories out of the 1400 that I eat every day and I rather spend the calories on something else. As I said, I bought some and think they are good if I got stuck somewhere, was hungry and wanted a snack. I just don't think I'd ever use them prior to eating a meal.

Now see I have not modified my diet as far as calorie counting yet so this is actually helping me eat less calories

Question though can these be eaten as like a late night snack to try and curb my night eating which is where i think most of my eating problems are at

Also can it actually be used as a meal - For instance could I eat just this and water for my lunch?
  • bnorris - My use of full bars is 'if I get stuck and don't have good options and I'm hungry'. so you could eat them for other reasons. You could also look at finding other foods in the same calorie allotment and experiment a bit. There are a lot of healthy foods that are filling which you can eat for under 200 calories.

My tips for late night munching are really to drink tea. Late night munching isn't usually hunger. You could also try some air popped popcorn (I make mine in the microwave with a paper bag).

I wouldn't use it for a meal though because it is really a supplement, not a meal replacement.
  • Fullbar
I have purchased a box of Fullbars at Sams for about $16. They don't have a big selection to choose from, but no big deal for me!
  • Just tuning in here. If you check out Dr. Snyder's website you will find answers to your questions about snacking, etc. I am just in the mode of trying these and I agree they are a tool, not a magic pill.
  • I saw the commercial for these things this morning and had been hoping you guys had already discussed it. I'm not disappointed!

Seems to me like this is just a convenient way to fill you up with fiber and water, which could be done much cheaper on your own, though it would take a little more time. The problem I have with this is that it doesn't teach good eating habits. Stuffing my stomach full isn't going to help me maintain the weight loss once I no longer need the bars. I think I'll stick with good, wholesome food.
  • Hey all,
I am new to this forum. I have been interested in Full Bars for a little while and I finally decided to try it out. I picked up one of every flavor at GNC. I have tried them for a couple of days, and I think they taste pretty good, and they keep me full! I am also doing Weight Watchers, so I am not too worried about the calories in them, they seem to fit into the plan easily.

I have also found that I don't snack as much so I have more points to use elsewhere, and I don't have to use the bonus points. I would usually have a Luna Bar as a snack during the day, so the price is actually comparable when you order online.

I just completed my order and the bars are only $1.23 a bar (close to the price of a Luna Bar). As with many others, I am not sure if it would help me lose weight if I just had the bars without another diet, but I am hopeful that this will assist with my current diet program!

I have around 25 pounds to lose, but would be happy with 15 pound weight loss. I will keep you posted on the progress! Thanks everybody for your input!

Somebody had also asked for the ingredients, let me know if you still want that information. I can get it to you from the bars that I have not yet tried!
  • Never tried Full Bar. Will have to get it a go as I have heard great things about it.

  • I just tried my first fullbar about 20 minutes ago. I bought two from CVS - the cocoa chip and peanut butter crunch. If it will help with my cravings for snacky foods then it might be useful. There's definitely no such thing as a magic pill.. except my bottle of Magic Pills
  • Psyllium husk vs Full Bar
Hi! Thanks for this forum. After reading all of your posts, I will head to the GNC and buy some full bars to check them out.

I have noticed that a few of you have asked about psyllium. I am familiar with it, and it does help if you can get it down your throat. Some people have side effects with gas and bowel movements. I didn't have any problems, but it did clean me out.

Even better is the cost, this stuff is very inexpensive compared to the Full Bars. You can get 1 lb for about $7.00 - compared to the Full Bar, it's a great deal.

I bought psyllium at Trader Joe's. It is actually called "The Secrets of Psyllium" and it is psyllium HUSK. It is located in Trader Joe's vitamin isle and has Egyptian hieroglyphics on it. This stuff is nasty to drink, but it did help me when I was on a high fiber diet.

    "The Secrets of Psyllium" Nutritional values are: 2 tbsp = 1 serving / 9 grams of dietary fiber / 5 calories / 0 grams fat and cholesterol / 10 mg sodium / 110 mg potassium / 10 grams of carbohydrates / 0 protein / 2% calcium / 7% iron.

Here's how to use: You place 2 tbsp in a glass of water and gulp (choke) it down FAST before it swells up into this goopy texture and gets stuck in your throat. It really does fill you up, because it expands in your stomach. You will have to drink lots of water while using it. If you can drink it before your meals, you will hardly eat anything or maybe not eat at all.

It was great to get my required 30 to 40 grams of fiber per day on a high fiber diet. The high fiber diet helped me drop 25 lbs, all of which I have slowly gained back (plus) through the years. I have tried many times to return to this high fiber diet, but I can no longer stomach the Psyllium Husk.

My best friend used it after having a baby and lost 65 lbs. It really does curb your appetite, but I would suggest using it in conjunction with other high fiber cereals and high fiber foods.

For those of you who do not have a Trader Joe's store nearby, I looked online and found a site called ihealth tree dot com. (Sorry, I'm unable to post the link.)

As for me, I know if I can eat something that makes me feel full, like the psyllium husk, it will curb my eating and sugar cravings. I just cannot return to psyllium. Do any of you have that problem? I have had a few diets that helped me lose weight, but I cannot return to the diet. I lose all of my willpower to stay on it.

With menopause coming on, I am heavier than ever and need to lose at least 50 pounds to be healthy and avoid diabetes. I will go to GNC and see if they have a few bars that I can sample.

Thanks for everyone's post! I am hoping that 2010 will turn out to be a great success for all of us!
  • Quote: Hello All,

Can someone tell me where to buy the psyllium seed husks? I ran a few searches on Google but all I can find is capsules. Locarbarb2 suggested using Tablespoons and teaspoons with 1 or 2 cups of water and the capsules just wouldn't work.
I tried to send a PM to her to ask, however for some reason I need to make at least 10 post to the forum before I can send a PM????????????????????

Thank you for your time and help,
    Rhonda
    Rhonda,
I posted a message about psyllium entitled: Psyllium Husk vs Full Bar. I am new to these kinds of forums and I don't know how to direct you to my post. I hope you can find it.

  • Full Bar vs Psyillium husk
Okay. So I tried my first Full Bar today (cranberry almond) with 3 cups of water. The taste is okay, much better than psyillium husk. But, I could have eaten another one! Still can after 1/2 hour. In my opinion, the psyillium husk does a way, way better job of making me feel full.... only it is harder than heck to choke down! I'm going to keep doing the Full Bars. I bought 2 boxes, so I want to give them a chance...
