Liz I have, tried tracking my food but can't keep up with it. I find that I forget to list some foods and don't really trust the counts on many online tracking sites. I try to just eat to satisfaction and not stuffed . Doesn't always work.
Trish i posted on my phone very early but It didn't show up until noon. That was strange.
Yes we are in the South, Carol. South Carolina here. Duke's fans, and we're not talking the team. ;-)
I understand about the costs of meds. That's an issue here, as well.
Like you, I do much better with my BG #s with Keto...wish I could stick with it for that reason. Just gonna try with the low carbs, journal and do some trial and error to help lower my #s.
Glad you had fun at the Casino, win or lose. Sounds like a fun time.
I've gotta get my butt in gear. This house isn't gonna clean itself. Have an awesome day, ladies!
Liz I used to live in SC and I used Duke's Mayo. My favorite is Hellman's but I though Duke's tasted enough like it to switch since it was less expensive. Now that I'm back in TX my family here loves Hellman's so I went back to it. I love your simple cole sclaw recipe and I'm going to try it with DH. I also absolutely loved SC and my home there. I do miss the beautiful spring and autumn beauty of the trees. My Daddy is almost 96 and was getting feeble. I wanted to have some time with him before he leaves us and DH and I didn't think it was fair for my little sister who has always lived here to have to take care of him by herself. So we moved to TX. I have to say I am 100% Texan, but I think SC is my favorite place I have ever lived.
I forgot to mention what you wrote about your DH. I am so sorry for his problems from the statins. DH's complaint has always been that his muscles aches when he is on it and that is what he told the doctor. He told him that he had tried taking them over the years and that his achy muscles was his biggest complaint. I told the doctor that his FBG came back down when he got off the statin. We won't say anything to him until we see him in July, but just the side effects of diabetes, muscle aches and dementia is reason enough not to take them. However, we can also use the excuse that we cannot afford the medicine. I also wonder what other side effects there are that we don't know about.
DH's first wife died from heart problems that came from diabetes. She lost toes and eye sight and if she had survived the heart surgery she had, she would have lost her legs because DH said her legs were black after the surgery. I promised him when we decided to get married to take care of myself and keep my bs under control so he wouldn't have to go through that again. We were both shocked when the doctor told him he was diabetic. Even this doctor told us he really doesn't know how to treat DH's diabetic because he isn't a typical diabetic. His weight is perfect and never had anyone in his family who was diabetic. I hope your Hubby can get a good kidney doctor who knows how to help him. I loved our doctor in Rock Hill, SC and it was very difficult to leave him.
Carol Sue I wondered about you this morning. I'm glad your okay and glad your casino buffet was free for y'all. Were they your diet friendly? I always get fried eggs in the restaurant since I learned that most restaurants add pancake mix to the scrambled eggs. DH SIL and her DH wants to take us out for breakfast. I'm hoping they will go to Cracker Barrell because my nieces inlaw's twin sister works there and I can ask her how they do theirs because I want to get an omelet.
Well it isn't raining here and I was able to go to the store before I came home from beauty shop. I hate that when they had all the problems with romaine lettuce that they don't make my favorite packaged salad any more. I assume they got it from where the problem was. I was able to get the small individual pizza dough so I think instead of getting takeout when we come home from DH eye exam that I will make us individual pizzas and salads. DH has some KFC cole slaw left so he can either have that or a salad with me.
Carol Sue Since Dr. Berg says eat 7 c veggies and Dr. Phinney said 3 to 5 c, I have decided to use those veggies the way that Reader's Digest book we both said to do. Remember it said offset the carbs with non-starchy veggies.
Broke my fast with the fat bomb at 12:22 (16 hr fast) and bs was 121. I am so thrilled with that. I got some more peanut butter and I will definitely keep those around. I do still use ACV/Lemon water before main meal but not before the yogurt.
I hope y'all like that mayonnaise recipe. It's the way my mother always made it and it's really good on a hot dog or with BBQ, hash, or just on the side. I've never eaten Hellmann's, will possibly try it sometime if I can't find Duke's.
I sure miss my mom and dad so I hope you get some good quality time with your dad. I've found out that there is never enough time with our parents.
We made a trip to TX when I was a kid, but I was too young then to remember much about it, but I do remember enjoying that trip. I seldom venture out of SC these years.
My husband had the same problem on the Lipitor. His muscles ached (especially his legs) and he had such a lack of energy, foggy head, etc. I know of two other people who had the same effects from it. That stuff has got to be dangerous. I don't know why doctors insist on it. He had heart disease before the diabetes and has had one heart attack, which was a few years ago. He's on quite a few heart meds, but thankfully that hasn't been the problem so much as trying to get his bg under control lately. I wish you and your husband the best in getting and staying under control, too.
I hope I'm not being a total downer, just explaining.
On a much lighter note, I'm glad we all seem to be doing the fasting. Makes me feel I'm not in this alone. Some days I don't make it completely to the 16 hours, but I try to get as close to it as I can.

Liz I am glad you joined in. It seems like a good fit. I am also glad you are telling us more about yourself so we can get to know you. I have had heart disease since 2000 when I had my first blockages. I have had a few stents and open heart surgery in 2008 When the also diagnosed diabetes. I started taking statin then. I didn't have a heart attack until April last year. Then that stent blocked up in Feb this year. I have had some pain issues off and on but they got really bad a couple months ago. I think if it was from statins it would have started years ago. I am 73 but in my mind I feel a lot younger. Lol. I have lived in PA all my life born in Philadelphia then moved to Pittsburgh suburbs at age 7. Never been to SC or TX.
I have been acceptable to tendon pain for years. First my ankles. I wore elastic braces on them and then the pain mysteriously disappeared as fast as it came. I had shoulder pain and went to PT. Then elbow pain and knee pain. That is all gone but now its my feet and hands. The right foot pain went away by itself but this left foot will not go away. I have never had a diagnosis except for the shoulder and right knee. If it goes away I don't care what it is!! I took Tormeric that helped with the pain but now I'm on blood thinners and cannot take the Turmeric.
You might have noticed that Trish mentioned a book we both have called Magic Foods for Blood Sugar Control. If you go to the sub forum Dieting with Obstacles then scroll down you will see a Sticky called Magic Foods. A woman who posted here years ago posted a whole synopsis of the book. It is a very interesting and worthwhile read for diabetics and also anyone interested in healthy eating.
Another thing that people neglect including me is taking a 15 min walk after your largest meal of the day. I think bicycling or other low intensity exercise will also help. I did that for a while and it really lowered my fasting glucose. But you know how it is. You miss a day then miss 2 days and before you know it you have stopped doing it. I have a friend who is a type A personality. She became determined that she was going to see how many consecutive days she could walk. She recently hit the 1 year Mark. She let nothing stop her. Rain snow and cancer treatment did not stop her. On days she could not walk outside she walked in her townhouse from room to room. Up and down the stairs. She also writes down every morsel she eats and the carb count. Lost weight and lowered her A1c from 8 to 6.I was amazed how she walked through her cancer treatment. But she said she didn't want to break her record. I wish I could be more like her.
Soon you will meet Fatmad when she comes back from vacation. She does longer fasts and is an inspiration.
And Pipsicle should be chiming in on Sunday. I like how our group is growing.

Carol, I know what you mean. I feel young inside, too. I'm 56, but have a lot of joint issues, as well. I'm sure most of them from carrying around this extra baggage for so many years. You've really been through it with your heart and other health issues. This is one reason I would love to get this weight off. Heart disease runs in my family and I don't want to go down that same road. Already on BP meds and would like to see if losing weight will help me reduce those drastically.
I'll will check the "Magic Foods" thread. Thank you for the referral to it.
I hear you on exercise being so important. And your friend, my goodness! That's some sheer determination! I need to make myself start exercising more...or I should say at all. I get up and get dancing in fits and starts, but not much of anything at all lately. Maybe visiting these threads will motivate me to get off my behind more often.
Any tips on how to make your fast last when you're starving? I have some bouillon in the kitchen, but I see it's 3 carbs per serving. No thank you! Had my coffee for the day and now drinking water to try to get to 11:00. It's just 9:50...Gonna get busy and get my mind off of eating.
I look forward to meeting the other members of this group, too! Nice getting to know you and Trish.

Liz, I think if you start with shorter fasting periods to get your body and appetite used to it then you an build it up to longer periods. Dont try to jump right into it. Start by not eating after dinner. After your body adjusts to that, delay breakfast for a while. Then eliminate a meal. You don't have to do it the same every day. Different people experience different hunger. Mine us usually mouth hunger, not real hunger. When my stomach starts to growl I tell myself that I am doing something good for my body. There are some people who just shouldn't do fasting. Dr Fung says if you really think you are getting sick you should eat. It is personal to fit your lifestyle. Listen to other's suggestions, but don't try to follow someone else's rules.
My friend has been obsessive with things all her life. I am the complete opposite. I could learn a few things from her, but I don't! LOL
Carol Sue I forgot to answer your question about the berberine. Yes I still take it 2x a day. I still take one with morning coffee and then one before main meal. I think I remember reading that it works like Metformin so hopefully I get the same protection. I didn't know you were supposed to take turmeric with blood thingger. DH and I both take it now with the curcumin. I really can't tell if it is helping with the joint pain. I have one finger that wants to lock up on me sometimes, but thankfully I can keep it from locking on me so far.
Liz I don't plan to follow a set routine of when I am going to eat although I am doing IF. I think that would not be IE for me. We used to have an IE thread on 3fc but I finally left it because I was trying to do IE/IF back then and got into a disagreement with someone who told me I was not doing IE because I like waiting 5 to 6 hrs between my meals. They didn't seem to accept that this is what worked for me. I hated seeing that group go, but IE is eating when you are hungry. If I was hungry and new it was real hunger then I would have eaten. Years ago when I first learned about IE, I would go for hours sometimes up to 6 hrs or more between meals. What a shame that we hadn't heard of Dr. Fung back then. I joined an online group with a woman who used to work in a clinic that taught IE. She told me it was dangerous for me to go longer than 5 hrs between meals. Now that I've listened to Dr. Fung, I know that there is no problem with me going as long as I want to between meals. Where IE comes in is that I am trying to learn to recognize real hunger and let that guide me as to when I need to eat. I would suggest doing what works for you. I personally don't think it hurts to change things from time to time. Dr. Fung calls it shaking things up.
I made the cole slaw and it was not sweet to me but I think the sweet relish I had was not sweet to me because I don't use sugar. Since I do sweeteners allowed by Dr. Berg and I haven't actually used real sugar in years, it doesn't taste sweet to me. If I could get it a little sweeter tasting with one of the sweeteners, I think DH might like it. The mayo I have is light Hellman's so maybe if it was made with real mayo it might help too.
Thanks for sharing your Hubby and others experiences with the statins. DH found another YouTube video doctor explaining about how cholesterol isn't bad for us and how it works in our bodies. I am amazed at what our doctors do not know. I really think my doctor thinks he is trying to help us, but they listen to the pharmaceutical reps and don't do the research themselves. If they knew what this doctor was sharing with a group of doctors etc, I don't think my doctor would be pushing these pills and he would agree with keto/low carb.
I agree with Carol Sue we love having you with us Liz and very glad you are sharing with us. Nothing you share is a downer. You never know how it may help someone else.
FBG before coffee was 145, but was 138 when I broke fast to eat breakfast around 11am. I want to try to do a 2MAD today if I can. Weight was 214.8 but that is pretty good since I made us personal pan pizzas yesterday when we got home from DH eye exam. Evidently the von-starchy veggies pretty much helped to balance the dough. DH ate his KFC cole slaw and I ended up eating a nice size home made cole slaw plus the frozen riced/finely chopped rice and broccoli that I put on it. My weight was up less than a lb and FBG was as high as it would have been if I had used a big pizza dough and cut out pizza in half. So that will be a nice once a week meal that will appease DH.
I had eggs and bacon with 1 slice Sara Lee MG bread for breakfast. Planning liver and onions for main meal today. Liz, I always say main meal because DH likes to eat early for dinner so it is either a late lunch or early dinner around 3 or 4. We will have salad and some non-starchy veggie with it.

Trish my Turmeric was with Curcumin and black pepper. The first one was from Wal-Mart. After that I got a stronger one online. Once my pain went away I stopped taking it. When I went on the blood thinner last year someone posted on another forum that turmeric interferes with it. So when the pain started this time It was in a different place but I did not take the Turmeric. Every supplement I find for inflammation says it interacts with blood thinners.I always research supplements thoroughly.
I really don't notice the absence of sugar in my cole slaw. No cole slaw tastes sweet to me but I know they put sugar in it. I never had KFC. I use regular Hellmans but want to try the one with avocado oil.
I ate a lot today so I skipped dinner. DH made a hamburger for himself. Didn't try to feed me. Lol

Good morning! Waking up with the dfecision to really stay on plan today. I do that often, but realized that I need to be constantly aware and not let mindless eating come into play. Also, when DH wants me to eat with him, I can still control the amount I eat. I do not have to eat everything on my plate. Many times I do that because I don't want to waste food but I have to rid my mind of that thinking in order to stick to my plan. It's better to toss it than wear it and be miserable.
Trish, I was thinking about your comment about the IE thread here. I realize from reading about IE that the purpose is to stop binge eating, not to lose weight. The only rules were not to eat unless you are hungry and to stop when satisfied, not to stuff yourself. Eat whatever you want. If you want Oreo cookies for dinner, eat them. But you must be hungry when you eat and stop eating when you are satisfied. No weighing or concern about weight. It's not about weight, but about correcting binge eating. The reason for this is because worrying about weight can lead to binge eating. Dieting, going without food or eating "diet" food, can lead to binge eating. And dieting is what has led many to binge eating. I can understand their objections to our weight related comments, but the thread was on a diet forum so they were setting themselves up to get diet type comments. I call what I'm doing IE but it is more like mindful eating, being aware of real hunger and only eating until hunger is gone. Like you, I may try to delay eating until hunger is real, which may be longer than needed for some others. I may even choose to be hungry for a while, but not to the point of being sick or weak. I try to choose healthy food rather than sweets and carb laden foods, but it's always something I like, so I don't feel that I am depriving myself, just giving my body the nutrients it needs. I don't eliminate any foods, but do try to limit sweets. These actions are not really part of IE, but we have chosen to take parts of IE rules and apply them to our WOE. I have done that with many eating plans so I don't see a problem with it. I don't know if anyone is still posting on that thread. I'll have to check and see, out of curiosity.
Now to go check out the link you posted.
That is a very interesting article, Trish. It leaves me wondering where I stand. I do like that my early in the day eating is acceptable because insulin is more sensitive earlier in the day. It's what I have normally followed. I doubt if I would ever follow Keto except for Dr Axe's interpretation, where he considers HF to be healthy fats, and he feels abundant vegetables are important. I want to eat on the low carb side because of my blood sugar, but not necessarily Keto. I also feel that I am not one who should cut protein. I feel that by eating less food, I need the protein for muscles and healing. When I had visiting nurses, they always told me to eat protein at every meal. Not a lot of protein, but some at each meal. I feel this is what's best for me. It may be different for someone else. Thank you for posting this link!

Carol Sue I missed that about Turmeric and blood thinners. DH hasn't taken it that long and I don't know if it is helping the itching or not. I know it isn't doing anything for my joints. We've been taking it 2x a day but lowered it to 1x and may not use it after we run out of this bottle. I only got one bottle to see if it would work. He is taking Zyrtec and said he thinks the antihistamine is probably taking care of the itching.
I don't think the IE thread is active any more. I didn't see it The ladies who wrote the book Intuitive Eating did said when people ate Intuitively that they automatically lost weight. I always felt that a lot of people used it as an excuse to eat without learning to eat only when hungry until satiated because they either didn't lose weight or gained. I know I had to apply it a little differently because of FBG. Besides I always felt like I had learned how to change my habits to fit the "normal" woe and the side effect was where I am now fighting to lose weight. I felt like I could take IE rules and learn how to change my eating habits bake to the way I had eaten when I was thin. It seemed to be a problem for them so I left the group.
This morning I realized why the original CAD theory always worked for me. There weren't that many rules back then. I used it to low carb most of the day and then have one meal when I ate whatever I wanted. It was when they came out with the newer books with more rules that messed me up. Then I began playing around with it got it myself and even overate at the Reward Meal and messed myself up. I've never been able to get back to correctly since. However, I realize that theory would work great for me now. I always liked the idea that I didn't have to eat breakfast on that diet. I could eat 1 meal or 2 meals and if I needed a snack with either way it was not eating off. I also like the fact that I didn't have to do it the same way everyday. You know if it was done right, you were actually fasting any where from 16 to 23/24 hrs some days. I loved being on CAD and I honestly believe I could do it again. In fact, if I moved my yogurt and fruit to the main meal then I could do 1 or 2 meals a day very easily. I just might try it again.
WI today weight was 213.6 down from 217.8 on the 1st. FBG before coffee was 151. I didn't eat breakfast this morning and I think I am going to do a semi-CAD plan and start making my coffee breakfast and eat do one meal and a snack most days. I'm not using the fat in coffee except for regular H&H. I personally don't think I need it. I will use the fat bombs as needed maybe at the end of meal or snack and just have one a day. I always called eating this way IE/IF/CAD. That was the way I ate before any of these diets came along with a name.

Trish congrats on the weight drop! I don't remember how long I took the turmeric before I felt relief and it didn't completely help with my hands but my feet were the biggest problem because if you can't walk you can't do anything. Its possible that it didn't do anything and the pain went away by itself. The right foot pain didn't come back after I stopped taking it. I will check through old posts to see when this left foot pain started.
The only issue I have with original CAD is having carbs at the last meal can raise FBS. I don't think they took that into consideration. Also, having a big meal can raise blood sugar too. Many food plans other than lowcarb do not consider blood sugar issues. But you know how to control your carbs for best blood sugar control and make it work for you. Eating carbs only at one meal is supposed to take care of blood sugar but I'm not sure it does.
I have done well so far today. DH made scrambled eggs and I ate them before I realized I didn't make toast! NSV. At lunchtime I had a half turkey sandwich with 1 slice of bread so that was my carb so far. At dinner I will remember that I am in control of how much I eat. We will be eating out and I don't know if I can leave my leftovers there. Sometimes when I bring them home I eat them when not hungry.

Carol Sue When I read the 1st book, I did OMAD the way Rachel Heller did. However, in the book I had gave several ways you could do the plan. Once DH#1 passed away, I switched my RM/starchy meal earlier in the day. In fact, it usually depended on my plan for the day. I always understood that my RM meal could be switched for a different meal. I think that got lost in the other CAD books because when they wrote their last book The Stress-Eating Cure they actually told people they could eat that higher carb meal for breakfast, lunch or dinner because they had learned that some people did better if their RM was at a different time of day. Since I married DH, I always made my RM our main meal. I used to do low carb breakfast and our late lunch was RM. Now I have progressed into eating no breakfast and then eat our main meal and then have a LC snack or meal later.
Because I stay up so late, I have decided to have my main meal to be my 1st meal of the day and then have a snack 4 to 5 hrs later. I will have the carbs I want at lunch and then allow myself a snack if I need it later. The carbs will still be low and the calories will be too. Plus I will be able to get at least a 19 or 20 hr fast. I may not do 100% CAD, but I will be low carb and low calorie.
Just a quick hello from my BC holiday. I have eaten lots of carbs, but either 2MAD or OMAD every day, but fasted on the travel day. I will fast again Tuesday on the travel day home as well. I may go into an extended fast then if possible, as there are no "events" in which shared eating are coming up when I get home. So then its just a matter of managing the fast. No scale so no idea where I am at. Some days I eat low carb, and some days not. My hosts have been great about the gluten free, and mostly about the lower carb as well, always lots of veggies in our meals.
I will read older posts laster, and want to say welcome to Liz as well.
Will post more later this week.
best wishes friends
