NSV. I get my pills refilled before I'm completely out so I keep them in a drawer until I need them. I went into the drawer to get the new G and it was there, plus a 45 day supply left from last time. That means I'm only using half of what is prescribed.
I am convinced that my pain is from neurapathy. It can effect hands, too. I am taking some supps that are meant to help plus it's better when BS is low. Not too bad today. 1 Motrin controlled pain. I am going to do what I have to do but I still intend to see the PCP to see what he prescribes. There is a neuropathy center nearby but their ad says it is30 treatments and I can imagine what it costs. Probably not covered by insurance. I think fasting will help, too.
DH went out to the car cruise so I get to control the remote for the evening.
The other day I shared on FB CAD that my favorite breakfast is avocado, eggs and bacon or small pork chop. Someone came back and said avocado is high in carbs to which I answered that avocado is a fat. She went to the trouble to look up how many carbs are in an avocado and it isn't on CM of CAD. I don't usually worry about the carbs in the avocado because I don't eat the whole avocado.
It depends on the type of avocado.
An average California avocado has 21g fat, 3g protein, 12g carbs (9 of the 12g are fiber).
An average Florida avocado has 31g fat, 7g protein, 24g carbs (17 of the 24g are fiber).

Thanks for the info. I'm not sure where mine come from but I've always assumed they are the small ones from FL. However, as small as it is, I figure the health benefits out weighs the problem of being high carb. According to your info since I only eat 1/2 the avocado each day then the carb count is low. Thanks again.

If the pain is caused by neuropathy, you might be interested in this study. 21 diabetic patients with painful neuropathy went on a diet for 25 days (low fat, high fiber, and vegan). They also exercised every day. "Complete relief of the SDPN pain occurred in 17 of the 21 patients in 4 to 16 days. The numbness persisted, but had noticeably improved."
This study showed similar results. This was a randomized controlled study with 35 participants. One group followed a vegan diet, and the other group followed their usual diet. Both groups took a B12 supplement. At the end of the study, the vegan group had less pain.

I had a pain free night with no pain meds. I also had a high carb day with full G dose. Don't know if it's related.. Seems when I eat pizza I am low pain. That does not mean it's a direction I will go, but a blip. I am still on the low carb side and still working toward keeping a fasting window. It is what works for me and where I feel the best. I think I will be eating high protein the next few days to balance things out and shed some fluid. Surprisingly, I am craving a steak!
Trish I saw a video on the news of a dam breaking somewhere in Texas and causing flooding. I know Texas is a big state. It was unbelievable to see. It is amazing the way the weather has been all over the country. Makes you wonder why.
Carol Sue Your experience with the pain and the pizza makes me more interested in what the Drs who wrote The Personalized Diet have to say because I can eat some more carby foods with no problem and there are others that I can't. I shared that info that Louise shared because DH has always said that there had to be some kind of chemical problem because his first wife had weight problems while her siblings didn't. Her Daddy loved to eat and was over weight, but not grossly. We always thought her Daddy's love for food was that he was a POW in WW2, but DH never could figure out why she had such a weight problem.
I started out a few months back checking bs before and after foods to see what affects my bs and I think I just might go back to doing that again.
Company made it to Monroe, LA and should be here sometime between 1 and 3. They should have a good drive in now. We are taking them out for steak when they get here. House is very nicely ready and I hope DH and I can keep it this way when they leave.
I hadn't heard about the dam breaking here in TX however, DS told me than San Angelo had bad weather and a lot of things were torn up, but said she talked to her SIL last night and he said it was on the other side of town. Looks like we are going to have a break for today and it will be back tomorrow and Tuesday then a break Wednesday and then another whole week of more rain. We actually lost power for a little over an hour.
Have a blessed Sunday everybody.

Trish- I hope your sister is doing better after her fall.
Just checking in since I've committed to myself to do that. Despite all of my efforts, my numbers are unchanged from the first of the year. I'm currently in the doldrums for motivation. I didn't even use my non-scale visual tracker this week that helps me see the good actions I've taken. I am struggling to turn my positive actions into results. When I try to take bigger steps, it turns into a set back. I often feel even worse after making reasonable changes and ones that are positive changes to a typical person. Clearly though, I need to do something different.
Currently, I do two 16 hour fast during the week and 12 hour fasts on the other days of the week. Exercise has fallen by the wayside (too much fatigue right now) but last month I was up to exercising four days a week. I need to pick that back up and include planning for the extra fatigue from the exercise. Usually, I need a two hour nap after 20 minutes of aerobic exercise at 60% of max heart rate. I have cut my calories by an average of 300 calories per day from the start of the year. When I try to cut out another 100 calories per day, the fatigue gets notably worse and then I make terrible food choices. My nutritionist describes it as "energy seeking behavior". I'll shoot to reduce it by an additional 50 calories per day. I have been consistently taking some supplements that I think have been helpful to me. I'll count that as my NSV for the week.
This week has been really busy for me. I have picked up more work and could work twice as many hours if I wanted to. I'd like to but it is too many for me. My daughter moved up a level in Girl Scouts. Yesterday, they had a nice ceremony and a picnic. I thought I was keeping my choices reasonable but the calorie tally at the end of the day told me otherwise. My daughter has decided to move on to other activities and will not be participating in Girl Scouts after this summer though. I am the troop leader so it will free up more of my time.

Pipsicle I wish I could offer advice but if I knew the answer I would do better myself. I don't count calories or carbs but just try not to eat when not hungry and only enough to stop hunger. I keep trying different things. I know that my problem is just overeating like I did yesterday. Hunger had nothing to do with it. Other days I do fine.
Trish your company will be there soon. Enjoy! The dam that broke was at Lake Dunlap in New Brunsfels, if you know where that is.

If your fatigue gets worse when you cut calories, it means that you should eat more (more healthy foods, not more unhealthy foods).
It's better to get your nutrients from whole foods, whenever possible. Supplements don't work as well as food. Some supplements don't work at all, and some might even increase the risk of mortality, as explained in this review of 78 studies.

Is it possible that pizza reduced your pain, because you were eating pizza instead of some other food that causes pain? What do you usually eat?

Hi mjf. Welcome to the Diabetes Thread. Do you have Diabetes? What was your latest A1c? How do you manage your blood sugar? Why don't you tell us more about yourself, so we can get to know you.
Are you a medical professional, or a nutritionist? I was wondering what are your credentials that have provided you with the opportunity to research so many studies regarding different health/nutrition issues. I have researched many issues that apply to me and have become very knowledgeable about my own conditions. And by the way, I don't click on unknown links, especially when they are coming out of the blue from someone I don't know and I advise others not to do it either.
Our company got here about 4pm. We had a good time with them and looks like they will be staying again tonight. I got up to see them off and they were gone. Her daughter had written her on FB and told her they should probably stay in Waco another night and come to her house tomorrow because they are E5 category risk for tornado today. It runs from SW Texas all the way up into Kansas. We are supposed to have T-storms here tomorrow so not sure they will be able to leave tomorrow either. We will have to take one day at a time.
FBG was 119 this morning and weight was down to 214. 6. I don't know how good or bad things will be for the next few days because I am eating some of my favorite carb foods etc to check with the meter. I had my coffee this morning with Stevia and SF French Vanilla cream and it went up to 126 in about an hour so I don't consider that too bad. I will try it tomorrow with H&H. I just had a slice of cheese toast made with cheddar cheese on Sara Lee MG bread. I will check it in 2 hrs to see how I did with it. I haven't gotten far enough in The Personalized Diet to see what my findings actually mean, but I will keep my records so I can use it to evaluate when I get that far. I will let y'all know how this little experiment goes.
Not sure we will go to see Daddy later although I told DH SIL that we would leave the door unlocked so they could just come in if we weren't here. We took them out for steaks last night and they want to take us out for supper. Not sure where they want to go but I won't eat anything else till then. I am finding it easier and easier to longer without eating. The only reason I ate the cheese toast this morning was to see how it affects my bs. There are times when I would just like to have a slice of cheese toast or toast with PB nothing else. It will be nice if I could have that when I want it. It is also a good way to find out if all grains cause me problems or night. Yesterday when they were taking longer to get here than they thought, I had a snack of 2 beef sticks (1/2 serving). At the restaurant I had a salad with ranch dressing, a steak and a baked sweet potato with cinnamon butter and then last night I wanted something so had the other half of the serving of beef sticks. So I did have some carb at supper.
Pipsicle good to see you check in regardless of how your week goes. I think that is important. We all have a tendency not to say anything when we aren't doing as well as we think. I think consistency especially during the bad times are just as good because it keeps us committed and at least trying.
Carol Sue I don't go to just any links either. I've had too many problems with my computer from doing that in the past and don't want to get hacked or a virus. You have to be so careful these days. There is a Microsoft scam going online right now and yesterday I got it. It just popped up on my pc and I couldn't get it to close no matter what I did. Thank God DH knows what to do about those things and I had to run my protection to get rid of it. The amazing thing is that I had just seen a warning on the news that this was happening and not to do it. Our local news is good about keeping us up dated on the latest scams etc that are going on to protect us.
fatmad I guess your long weekend will end soon. I hope the weather was kind to y'all.

Trish, I'm glad you are enjoying your visit with your company. I hope they are enjoying the visit, too.
I have to be careful with carbs as I have a problem stopping at a small portion. I am better off not to eat it at all. Bread and bread products are the biggest problem for me. I still buy the 35 calorie thin sliced bread and keep it in the freezer. I occasionally have a slice of toast with eggs, but I can get carried away with too many slices so I avoid it when I can. I know that I am fine with small portions of carbs, but I have difficulty keeping my portions small.
I still want to keep my vegetable consumption hight to be sure I get the nutrients and fiber.
Carol Sue I suspect that I will learn that I can have a small amount of some more carby foods, but I also know there are some of them I do not need to be eating like chips, I can't eat just one or even just a 1 oz serving sometimes. Therefore I won't even bring them in the house. However, I am beginning to think that it isn't that I can't have some of the higher carb foods as much as I need to lower the amount. Remember I finally learned that if I cooked 1/2 serving of oatmeal that I could eat it once in a while.
I forgot to check bs 2 hrs after the cheese toast, but did check a little over 3 hrs just because I forgot, but I was thrilled to find that my bs reading was 117 which was 2 pts lower than FBG this morning. So I probably could have the toast once in a while and maybe even when I eat an egg/bacon breakfast, I might be able to have one slice of toast with it. It will be interesting testing bs after eating foods to see how certain foods affect my bs. Once I have this info then I can make my own personal diet from the foods that don't cause me any or very little rise in bs.
Company texted me and they went out for Mexican food but want to take us out for supper so I suggested Cracker Barrel that way I can stay OP again tonight. I see good things starting to happen so I would love to keep the weight and bs lower.
Not going to see Daddy today since our company is having to stay over another night. Not sure it is a good day for me to go any way. DS went to see him and he waited until her DH left and then he hit her up about the car. He is obviously still mad at her about it and he just left her and went down the hall leaving her. I really hate that he is treating her this way. She doesn't want to argue with him about it because she doesn't want him to die and they have this argument between them. His phone is off today even though she turned it on and had it working when she left. We don't know if he does it on purpose or not. I hope he doesn't do it on purpose. Hard to tell because when he was younger and before he was a Christian he had a bad attitude and if he got mad at you he could hold a grudge against you for a very long time. I've had times that I came to town to see him and Mama and everyone would come to see me, but when everyone left and it was just him, Mama and me, he would leave the room and have nothing to do with me. I would hate for him to get that way with DS. It took us almost 70 yrs for him to change with me and he doesn't have that long. Can only pray.

Trish I have heard d from so many people that relationships with parents CAN get difficult as they age. No real explanation. I am sorry you are dealing with this. Surely your Dad knows he cannot drive. This is why I said she should tell him that the car is there waiting for him when he is ready but you said you don't want to lie to him so that is the decision you can live with. I know it is hard.
I think it you are able to keep your bread portion small it is ok for you to have it. The more of a variety we have the better off we are. Continue to test the items you eat. I hope you enjoy your meal at Cracker Barrel. I want to go there some day.
