Woke up to a couple of inches of wet, heavy snow on the ground this morning and no warmth or sun in the forecast to help get rid of it. Oh my, I just Spring.
At least both the BGL (at 6.6/119) and the weight (at 223.8) have almost recovered from the highs from last weekend's tooth-induced binging. So not everything is bad.
Hope the rest of you have a great kind of TGIF shaping up . . . see you all later . . .
Hi, all. Nice spring day here. Have spent the week dealing with my digestive problems. Have had a couple more episodes. Am due to see my pcp in early May so will take this up with him then. In the meantime,I don't really know what to eat. Have been eating yogurt for lunch and turkey sandwiches for dinner. Should lose a few pounds anyway. My bgl has been bouncing up and down and I don't really know what's going on. Well, have a nice weekend.
Quick check in.....I got my blood test results back. Cholesterol down a little, Triglycerides down A LOT and my A1c went from 6.5 to 6.1. The doc is thrilled that I've lost 27 lbs so far, and he wants me to keep doing what I'm doing...diet and exercise and no meds. Yay! He wants me to have another blood test and he wants my A1C to be 5.9 or lower (in the "normal" range)! Woo hoooo!
Hello everyone. I haven't been diagnosed with diabetes but my last two blood glucose level tests were high (107) and the doc now wants me to take the glucose challenge test. I don't think so!! I've done a lot of research on the internet and decided to cut out grains. I had given up processed foods and switched to whole grains but that didn't work, so I'm giving them up almost completely. I'm eating lean meat, a little cheese, egg beaters, beans, lots of veggies and fruits and nuts and seeds. I need to lose about 40 lbs. I'm also hiking 5 times a week. When I've lost my weight, I'll go back to the doctor and get tested again. She also wants to put me on high cholesterol meds but my cholesterol should go down with this plan also.
I always had trouble sticking with a lower calorie diet because I always felt hungry and deprived. Now I don't get cravings at all and have started to lose weight. I think this is going to work for me.
H there SUNSHINE . . . I think you are on the right track to getting the Blood Sugar down . . . Sounds like you might have a little pre-diabetes/insulin resistance problem on the go and the sooner you can get a handle on it, the better off you are. I tend to get most of my carbs from tons of vegetables and some fruit most of the time. Even the good grains bother me if I overindulge.
I've got a lengthy thread on the go over in the main Dieting With Obstacles Forum called Magic Foods that you might like to take a look at. It's been on the go for almost two weeks and I tend to add a new chapter every week-day so be prepared for a little intensive reading . . . http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=139983 . . .
BTW . . . the glucose tolerance test your doctor wants to do is not anything to be upset about -- they just test your blood; then feed you a controlled amount of a glucose; and then test you blood again -- It would also be a good idea if he had the lab do an HbA1C test at the same time -- it actually gives a picture of how your blood sugar level has been doing over the past 90 days.
If you've got any questions, just give me a yell. . .
Hi, all. Sunny weather here. My stomach seems to have settled down. I've changed my eating habits. low fat, no wine, no diet pepsi. Boring. Hopefully I've lost a few pounds. Can't take my usual pain pills for my knees so am creaking around. Also very tired all the time. This had been going on for awhile so will take it up with the doc next week. Get my A1c and other tests done tomorrow. That should be interesting because of the way my bgl has been spiking the last few weeks.
I am really worried about Rosie, too. Does anyone have her email?
Hi Everyone
I am new here. Great site. I have Type 2 Diabetes and was diagnosed about a year ago. I have just started to monitor my sugar levels. I don't know whether to be monitoring nine times a day to see what patterns take shape, or to just try my best and put the darn thing away. I hate the thoughts of being tied to this thing!
I do know though, after going for Diabetic Education at the nearby hospital that if I don't pay attention to the way I choose to live, I could get into serious health issues. More serious than right now.
I look forward to reading more here and learning. Thanks!
Hi ROSETTA . . . glad to hear you are feeling better . . .
Hi LOOKIN AT LOSIN . . . to the group. You are absolutely right that you have to get a handle on your diabetes as soon as you can. I hid my head in the sand for a long time when I was first diagnosed (about 20 years ago) and believe me it does not go away, it will only get worse. I test 3 or 4 times a day just to have an idea how my day is going. Always before breakfast and then either before lunch or before dinner and usually at bedtime to decide if I need a snack or not. I think nine is a little obsessive. You'll wear out your fingers. BTW -- just another little tip, or two . . . I use a finger a day and rotate them throughout the month (and whatever the heck on months with 31 days.
Hope we'll be seeing you round here regularly.
Take a little time and look at some of the older posts on this forum . . . especially one called "Tips and Tidbits" . . . there's lots of information in there that I've pulled from the internet and posted over the past couple of years.
I think it is my TOM (yep, that's what it must be at age 65 ) because my ankles are all puffed up this morning and I did not overindulge in either sodium or carbs yesterday. Strange?
Another overcast day, but things are starting to look greener, at least, and it is relatively mild. Now if we could just get some sunshine . . . hmmmmm.
Nothing too exciting for me today . . . how about you??
