  • Welcome Mel!

Rosetta, Did you see your doctor yet?

Meowee, I know, it's so hard to skip the special foods we see on vacations. Good job getting back on track now that you're home. I love Ontario, especially the falls and Toronto. The CN tower was a blast.

At work they just started a walking contest called "Summer Steppin". They gave us all pedometers. And today they held a 1 mile walk to kick-off the contest. I did the whole mile, although I finished last in a group of about 50 walkers. But that's okay, it's a starting point for me. In a few weeks I'll be out in front of all of em!
  • Hi, all. Had a bad weekend, foodwise. Eating like before the gastritis attack. Feeling bloated and uncomfortable this a.m. My bgl was up too.
Welcome back Meowee. Glad you are back on track.
Mel - Good for you getting yourself together. You might try starting with taking your meds on a regular basis. That is very important. Then work on your diet. if you have access to a diabetes educator take advantage of that. They really help.
Watercolor - I saw my primary care doctor last week - my A1c is up from 5.8 to 6.1. He was not too concerned but my endocrinologist, whom I see this week, will be annoyed with me. I haven't been eating right. Congratulations on your walkathon. If you keep at it, you will start to see the benefits.
  • Hi everyone, I normally 'read' here and not post. But with my nutrition and exercise improving, my BS's are staying wnl... amazing... I have a doctor appt next month, but I've back way off on my Lantus and haven't had to use humalog in weeks... still checking bs 3-4 times a day and staying 80-150 w/out the lantus... I'm still taking glyburide... Usually hate having my AIC done... but I'm looking forward to this one... perhaps it will be less than 6... before dietary/exercise changes AIC was 7.3... anyway thought I would stop in and say hi... have a good night everyone...
  • Good Morning . . .

Glad to see you here CAROLINE and it really sounds like things are heading in the right direction for you, Chickie. Hope will be seeing more of you from now on. BTW . . . I absolutely your Avatar -- especially enthralled with the adoring look on the kitten's face.

Well . . . we have sunshine in Northern Nova Scotia this morning, but it is way too cold for being almost mid-May. Guess I'll try to be happy with the small mercies, though. At least the weight did another little downward 'blip' this am, but the blood sugar did an upward one -- the fact that I forgot to take my evening meds might have had something to do with it of course.

Nothing too exciting in my plans for today -- have to take my friend to the hospital for an intervenous bone-density treatment -- so we will probably do a bit of shopping while we are in the next-town-over anyway.

Cut out the main sections for a new quilt yesterday between sessions of tearing my house apart trying to find details of my second marriage and divorce dates (selective amnesia at work here ). I need the information so I can get my passport. I'm kind of planning another little visit to some friends in September -- in North Carolina, this time. Guess I'll turn my approximate dates over to the local Services Canada office and hope they can track down the details for me. Give them an exciting few days (maybe) since I'll be asking for Ontario information instead of the Nova Scotia stuff they usually get asked about -- that's me -- always thinking of others.

Other than that . . . SSDD . . . hope everybody else has some fun stuff on the go . . . see you all soon . . . . . . And where are you ROSEY?????
  • Thanks for the nice welcome Meowee, nice thread... thanks for keeping it going.... Hi everyone... Today was another good day... well so far, bs wnl and energy is up... yeah... I ate well today and walked... I was dying for a grilled tuna melt, so put one together with 'lite' bread, 'lite' mayo/tuna and a wedge of Laughing Cow.. sprayed pan with Pam... delish.... I'm in the early phases of improving my health, and moderation is working... I'm finding healthy ways to eat what I want... or a very close version.. so far its working...

Those kitties are great aren't they... but I don't know who they are ... LOL
(one of those misc pics) I do have one of my own though... 22 lb guy with Maine coon in him... the big bear... love em'... hagn all...
  • Hi gang . . .

Well, those kitties are still cute no matter who they actually belong to, CAROLINE. How about a picture of your 'real' cat?

Nothing much new around here . . . weather looks like an instant replay of yesterday -- sunny but cold. Weight is identical to yesterday, but BGL is definately better at 7.4 (133) but, as usual it will go down as the day progresses, I imagine.

Keep things moving and shaking, gang . . .

  • Good Afternoon Ladies,
I having been reading this board and I saw a familiar name. Meowee! I have been keeping up with your "Magic Foods" postings and I can not begin to tell you how helpful all that information was to me. Since this board is diabetes related I would love to join. I too struggle with bouncing blood sugars and it is driving me nuts. I have been seeing a new doctor since December and he is adjusting my meds to get me under control and the BS has improved but still in the high range. Mornings I always run 136 to 165. Presently he has me on Novolin 70/30 55 U am and 40 U pm. Plain metformin really gave me gastric issues so I now take 2 ER metformin and I am doing ok on it. I knew more about diabetes than my last doctor...he did nothing for my legs pains, not even testing, so needless to say I do not use his services any more. New Doc has run a battery of tests, heart and kidneys are ok but I have diabetic neuropathy in my legs. The nurse called me to give me the results and I see the doctor in a month. I take Lyrica and it does seem to help. I have never had swelling in my feet or ankles and now "Boom" they swell every day! I never add salt to anything so it has to be from the neuropathy I think. If I walk more than 1/2 mile my legs are so sore the next day I can barely get through the day. I am not a complainer I just want to share this background to see if any of you have some or any of the same issues. Thanks and I'll be checking back soon.
  • Hi, all. We're having a heatwave here, which is supposed to last through the weekend. Ugh! Saw my endocrinologist this morning. I finally got a 9 a.m. appt. with him, but as usual, he showed up 20 mins late. That is so inconsiderate. Now I have to make up 1 and 1/2 hours out of my lunch hours. Anyway, as predicted, he put me back on glyberide. He said my A1c might actually be higher than the test showed because I'm slightly anemic and that may affect the results. The 6.1 doesn't match my daily bgl readings which are high. So that makes 8 different meds I take daily. Fun.
Jeanne - Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend.
Meowee - It may be cool but at least the sun is shining at last.
Caroline - I love Maine Coons. What color is yours?
  • Hi again . . .

Just wanted to say a big to PEGGY . . . so glad to hve you joining us. I have neuropathy in my feet and legs too. Any extra walking gets me that night. Go to bed and boom, every muscle in the legs goes into spasm. Yes, I also have the constantly swelling ankles too. As well as watching the salt, be careful with the refined carbs and the combination (as in something like pizza) is especially deadly.

Glad you got some time with two of the boys, JEANNE . . . but please remember to take your meds.

Sorry to hear about your heat wave, ROSETTA . . . I know it's not one of your favourite things. Too bad doctors always act as if they are the only ones that have schedules. Hope the glyburide helps bring down the BGL again.

Yep . . . I'm really worried about ROSEY, too . . . wish there was something I could do.
  • Hi All..... This is Cashmere my 8 year old kitty... he's spoiled, very spoiled...

Hey...Hey Cashmere here... my mom won't tell you but I will...she had a big big bag of chips today and here bs was 175 before supper
  • Hey Cashmere is great too . . . just look at those eyes. Sure hope he can get his Mom straightened out about those chips, though. Hey, we all have days like that from time to time.
  • Good Morning Sweetie Pies . . .

SSDD for me -- BGL is up a bit and so is scale. -- Weather is still too cold for mid-May and the sun is reluctant to shine today as well.

My friend's toy poodle is visiting with us this morning. Four of the five cats magically 'disappeared' as soon as Benji set paw in the door; but Queen Purrecious refused to give ground -- the dog barks; the cat simply stares.

    Hope everybody else is having a great day . . . catch you later . . .
  • Good morning all and hello to the new folks,,I love to read new posts,,Meowee yep your right about the meds for sure,,no excuses,,just to busy and next thing you know I am eating and remember dang it forgot my shot,,my bs was 80 last night and 140 this a.m. Rosetta glad you got to see the doctor,,your right tho most could care about our time,,I used to work in doctors offices and did front and back,,I hated it,,was a waste of collage for me,,ha,,
Sunny and warm today,,suppose to have a heat wave this week-end also,,went from winter and hardly no spring to heat,,urrrr,,not ready,,
HELLO ROSEY WHERE EVER YOU ARE ,,sure do miss her,,,later have a great day,,Jeanne
  • Hi, all. It's 84 degrees and not even noon yet. No air conditioning in my office. Got home last night and the elevator was down. Had to walk up six flights in the 80 degree heat with my groceries. Not fun. (a 90 year old neighbor offered to carry my bag up one flight for me. She's in better shape than I am.) Had to walk down this a.m. which is hard on my knees. My neighbor called to tell me that the elevator was smoking this a.m. so there's a chance it may not be fixed by the time I get home. Needless to say, I am not a happy camper.
Jeanne - we didn't have much transition into this weather either. It went from cool and windy to stifling and windless.
Meowee - good for purrecious for standing her ground. Have a fun visit.
